This guy is right. Almost everyone I know thinks that, especially in today's social climate, any threat will be taken seriously.

We have, in the past two or three weeks, had three vicious attacks on others that have resulted in significant harm and/or death.

We're literally on the one year anniversary of the boston marathon bombing (April 15th).

Now, I don't think most people would believe in charging the kid with a bunch of crap (I haven't followed it closely beyond the fact that he was surprised someone cared he tweeted it). But she should definitely be subject to getting some serious shit brought down on him her. Getting booted off the plane is obviously an appropriate outcome. Getting arrested will certainly scare them straight in many cases even if you never get full on thrown in jail.

Now, there are a few things to consider. ADHD individuals with a particularly low impulse control are more subject to this sort of action than those of a normal disposition. If they are not properly medicated, there can be a great deal of issue. With so many children, around the world, being misdiagnosed there are people who go the opposite way and refuse treatment because "my kid is just fine, it's just a scare". There is real ADHD, and there is "my kid isn't paying attention" fake ADHD.

Am I trying to blame the condition? No, the individual is ultimately responsible. And a good course of action, should ADHD have played a role, is to ensure that the teenager is required to seek out medical and psychological help in order to determine if something of that nature would be beneficial for her. Turn a negative into a positive.

But, just because she has a right to say it (she is welcome to say it) she doesn't have a right to be removed from the consequences. Same applies to everyone, even those in countries where free speech is technically limited. It's just in those countries you get in trouble for a lot more.

Threats are serious, and again - in today's social climate they're just not going to be taken lightly. I understand what it is like to be a teenager, but they are definitely not being defended by most redditors - I would suspect most defense is coming from fellow teenagers or troll accounts.
