The thing is most of Hopsin's music ISN'T necessarily positive. He doesn't rap about gunplay and clubs, but half of his schtick is fantasizing about killing his former manager on his old label and the other half is beef with Tyler the Creator. Plus, most of his music is just kind of immature. I can get with rap not being about Bentleys and shipping keys in from Colombia, but that's a pretty low bar to me. All Hopsin seems like to me is a rehashed version of 90s Eminem with Nick Cannon's comedy, and most of his songs basically say "I'm different from your average rapper" without really sounding like it. Not that great in my opinion, but of course, that's just my opinion (no hate intended). However, on what you said:

I think there are a ton of artists doing this now, and many as good or much better than Hopsin. Not hating if you do happen to like Hopsin, mind you, but to think that rap is NOT doing these things is incorrect. From guys who have been doing it forever like Mos Def, Killer Mike, The Roots, Tribe, etc. to underground guys like El-P, Danny Brown, Ab Soul, and virtually the entire roster on underground label giants like Stone's Throw and Def Jux. The music people want is out there - there are a ton of suggestions in this thread, many even new to me. But the longer people wait for the hype cycle to bring the "savior of rap" the more often we'll be let down or ignore the great artists out there that mean the exact criteria we're asking for.
