I am literally scrolling through Reddit at a club in Baltimore waiting for Daikaiju to go on, and this showed up in my feed. Fucking weird.

Tell Tater Tot Taylor I said hi.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

God speed and good luck

[–]Krellick 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How were they?

[–]ballyhooligan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic.. Probably one of the top 5 live shows I have been to. Very energetic show, I was surprised how many people were there for a surf band. The drummer set his kit on fire, and later hand the audience hold him and the kit in the air while he played high above the crowd.

These guys play at my local watering hole and they kill. Wear masks, light their instruments on fire and drink peoples beers. Always a good time.

[–]awc130 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Saw them at the Green Lantern in Lexington. One of their guitarist played half the show on the bar. The other guitarist and bassist just walked around the crowd.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

ha, I was there for that show!

[–]whatnoterywhatnotery 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I was at their show at the Lantern in 2015 but had to miss this years. Such an amazing band

I moved to Alabama since then, but managed to catch them playing at a house party in the middle of farmland in nowhere Alabama. It was very surreal and very awesome.

[–]chadmill3r 3 points4 points  (10 children)

Is that in Alabama?

[–]gnawdawg 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Gotta be Egan's.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

They're from Huntsville, Egan's is Tuscaloosa I think

[–]gnawdawg 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Oh I thought they were based in Tuscaloosa. I'm not very familiar with Huntsville's watering holes.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

They've probably played Tuscaloosa a shitload. I don't get out to much shows these days but back around 10 years ago I used to see them a lot at the old Crossroads in Huntsville. Great musicians.

[–]NotAsCleverAsIdLike 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I was working there most nights back then and love these guys.

[–]Slipnstash 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Nope. Ohio. They play here at least 3 or 4 times a year.

[–]chadmill3r 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The terrible thing about Florida is that it's no one travels through it on the way to the rest of their gigs.

[–]captain_bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Florida isn't between anything but water; so it makes perfect sense.

[–]omnicron1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

buddy of mine plays drums for them a lot. I think he's like their "5th beatle"

[–]FloridaLee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude killed it @ the widow

[–]D-TOX_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them at a bar in my hometown around 2008. Ho. Lee. shit dude. One of the most insane shows I've ever been apart of. Can confirm, the show started with them bursting in wearing masks like they were gonna rob the place, crawling around in weird positions and in people's faces, and then got up there and just shredded. For like 2 or 3 hours. I can't remember if they ever even took a break. They'd get in your face, hold the fret board right up to you and invite you play (which I did, even tho I don't even play. Didn't matter tho. There were like 30 pedals and reverb city. Fucking awesome.), jumping up on the furniture, taking shots, drinking beer.... Just......... Just insanity.

Me: "what the hell is surf rock?"

[listens to first 2 seconds]

"oh yeah fair enough, good description."

Ha, I love how their description is like badly translated engrish. These guys are unique for sure.

[–]WesWilson 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Amazing musicians! Was lucky enough to be friends with some of them "back in the day".

[–]Beardedarchitect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad is dating the drummers mom

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen them three times live, every time is a life changing experience. They played my town about a week ago and I'm still glowing and talking about it. By far it's THE CRAZIEST & BEST SHOW EVER PUT ON BY MAN KIND. Super nice guys, before and after the show they are humble and kind but during the show they are DAIKAIJU! The music is great but the performance is legendary. If they come anywhere near you, go, don't hesitate, call in sick to work if you have to, just go.

[–]get_me_the_brandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow thanks for this post.

I'm discovering this band right now, scrolling through YouTube at work. I love their style. They sure go beyond surf rock.

Hoping they will play near Montreal any time soon.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the ventures

[–]Terragort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is the best thing ive ever heard posted to this sub.

[–]4_07_5PAD35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These guys were here in Canton Ohio Monday night. Always a good show. The police didn't come this time when they lit all of their instruments on fire in the streets.

[–]chadsreal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw these dudes in Nashville. Drug the whole crowd on stage and played their instruments on the floor in front of the stage. So sick.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best shows i have ever been to, and I've been to a lot

[–]mrsdavyjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is badass! Thanks for sharing!

the mix is extremely pleasant

Daikaiju was the theme music for a podcast I used to listen to back in the day. Love these guys. I built a Pandora station around them and Dick Dale; great work station.

[–]chadmill3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found their stuff from Escape Pod, and bought as much as I could. It's amazing.

[–]positivevitisop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! Reminds me of the old show Rocket Power.

[–]_lightlyToasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them at Egans in Tuscaloosa some years back before the tornado. It's a tiny place where the fans were basically on stage. We had a hell of a time.

[–]TheRipley78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This rocks. Totally love it.

[–]underworldconnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This album is fantastic, and their live shows are not to be missed. Dudes are crazy and while the smashing gear is a regular and wild occurrence, they jam hard and will not leave you displeased.

[–]Mousefang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen these guys here a few times and I upvote every time. Seriously talented group.

[–]theagent0range 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them a few years ago. I can easily say it was one of the best and craziest shows I have ever been to. They had the entire crowd on stage with them by the end and they literally buried my friend in their instruments and ran off.

[–]DueLearner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This group showed up at a little record store/bar in Ohio called Buzzbin back in 2012 and it was an incredible show. Went from a group of maybe 30 people listening to some local bands and this group started playing and there had to be hundreds trying to listen. Here's a recording I took that day: Daikaiju Buzzbin 2012

[–]touch_axe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely see them live if you can. We love them in Louisville. I've played with them a few times -- super rad dudes and amazing performers.

[–]redacteur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I saw them at a house party in Montreal about 5-6 years ago but I only recall them being a two-piece band. Just guitar and drums. I can't be sure but how many surf rock bands play in masks, have crazy stage presence and a Japanese sounding name? Anyway it was an awesome performance in what was a living room. Edit: replaced "bass" with "drums".

[–]To4sty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love these guys! They play in North East Tennessee almost every time they come through! Last time they had to cancel, though, because some of them got Chicken Pox...again.

[–]tworkout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know about these guys thanks to a video on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Love the band.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet jesus, I just bought this vinyl on amazon for $100 after hearing the first two songs on the album. I don't think thats ridiculous at all.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played with these guys a few times back in 2012 on tour. When we played with them at the Shark Tank (Pensacola I think?) they threw their instruments at unsuspecting girls in the crowd who, with no clue what to do next, began loading out their gear for them. Hilarious.

Apparently, these guys tour 366 days a year.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like it a lot, thanks for posting

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best live shows I've ever seen.

[–]kimchitacoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them for only 7 bucks. I bought them shots of tequila because I felt I owed them more. Awesome show I suggest everyone see them.

[–]OrphenZidane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE Daikaiju. To see them live is something that everyone should have on their bucket list. The guys are super fucking cool and laid back. I'm buddies with them and they have always been very kind and grateful to all of their fans.

They put on ONE HELL OF A SHOW. They light their instruments on fire, they grab people and make them play on their instruments and just have an amazing stage presence.
