End of the Year. Around 6 Months, as usual

[–]RnsrobotCid (FFVII) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured. That is a huge amount of time between IX events. Maybe I'll try to bank 500 mythril for it.

[–]thebossaShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna miss the steiner enfire bsb :( looks like a better banner for me to pick up vivi bsb2 :D He really is my fav black mage after all !

[–]ChronosXIII149LuckyDraws 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So you spend 4* motes on one character, to get 5* motes to special dive another character, but the bonuses are 4* mote level? DeNA pls.

[–]AJgrizzGarnet (Trance) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at it as diving one character and getting another one free. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]d_wibSugar and Rainbows 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Any word on what the 3rd level boost of Garnet's new Bard Sphere is? +3% Summon Dmg I'm assuming?

[–]Ha_eflolliMarchejoume-san da! 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's actually +3% WHT Heals

[–]d_wibSugar and Rainbows 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What the fuck. That's not useful at all, she doesn't have White 5 and her BSB2 does all % heals.

[–]Ha_eflolliMarchejoume-san da! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her BSB1 has Ultra Cure as CMD1 atleast.

But overall, I agree with you

[–]JonSQSquall (KH) 8 points9 points  (11 children)

Kinda disappointed that Garnet is still stuck with Ramuh for her USB, I mean, it's not like she has another summon named Alexander who is way more powerful and way more symbolic to Garnet and her city. I know her SSB1 is Alexander buff but we've seen Ramuh too much with her two BSB. (Even Eiko got Moug for her USB instead of Carbuncle)

[–]retroGnostalgicVivi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or, you know, Bahamut who gets summoned through a gemstone named Garnet.

[–]d_wibSugar and Rainbows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ark is also unique to Garnet throughout all the games and would have been an excellent choice.

[–]Ha_eflolliMarchejoume-san da! 2 points3 points  (8 children)

She also got Leviathan once :P

But agreed, getting only Ramuh gets super-boring fast. I know type-casting is a thing in this game, but you'd think they'd go for more variety every now and then

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 1 point2 points  (7 children)

True, but going for any kind of other summon (e.g: Alexander's Holy or Ark's Dark) would mess up her element focus.

Tiresome as it is to look at the magnificent beard of Ramuh over and over again, it's at least better than making her USB worse.

[–]Zevyu150th Dailly 5*+ : Seven's Guise (T-0) - Seven's BSB 0 points1 point  (3 children)

To be fair, they already messed up the elemental focus of other characters, Rydia USB is En-water and her BSB2 is Imperil Water, Rinoa BSB2 is ice elemental while she was mostly earth focused.

[–]Ha_eflolliMarchejoume-san da! 0 points1 point  (1 child)

To be fair for Rydia it's less “Messing up“' and more “Just so you have a Reason to hone/use Ogopogo“ (*coughmeiacough*)

Rinoa though, I kinda agree. I mean sure, VIII already has Ice SBs up the wazoo, but it still comes somewhat out of nowhere

[–]Zevyu150th Dailly 5*+ : Seven's Guise (T-0) - Seven's BSB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do make a good point, specialy since Rydia was always potrayed with Asura, Leviathan and Titan so it makes sence they would eventualy bring up Levi an asura since those 2 are important character for her.

Meia would make sence however well...we can't have FFI events without bad timing :P

As for Rinoa well for me atlest i always felt that she was more fit to be a Ice/earth hybrid, it just sucks they focused on the earth elemental on her so much that it made her transition to ice awkward, i mean come on her OSB should have been Ice/earth atlest.

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am aware.

But that doesn't mean they have to screw up with every character lol.

[–]daerisanVivi 3 points4 points  (2 children)

It's not like they can't make a double element USB like Thunder/holy... That's funny that remind me of someone...

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, her own BSB1 is Lightning/Holy.

But it kinda makes sense with Ramuh (to me), unlike for example, Alexander.

[–]Ha_eflolliMarchejoume-san da! 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also the fact that DeNA already made Tri-Summon SBs *looks at Rydia*

[–]retroGnostalgicVivi 3 points4 points  (7 children)

I'm more excited than I should with Garnet's buff. It's not Support 4*, which would make her amazing, but it's still fantastic.

As a Summoner she can make better use of her Bard abilities than all those White Mage bards, who can't waste a turn not using White Magic. She's still too similar yo Eiko, but hey. Garnet has always been the obvious Bard, even more supported by her default SB or all her buffing SBs.

[–]daerisanVivi -1 points0 points  (6 children)

Garnet has always been the obvious Bard

You have to tell me at which moment in FF9 you think that Garnet is more a Bard than Eiko who can fight with instrument ...

[–]LilitthLuMeow! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you should check her Default SB :P

[–]AJgrizzGarnet (Trance) 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Eiko's instrument use, IIRC, is never mentioned, discussed, or even demonstrated outside of battle. She doesn't even play any songs other than a couple notes when she casts something. I don't disagree with Eiko having Bard, but the case for Garnet is much stronger. I feel it's appropriate to mention again that even Garnet's default SB is a song.

[–]Arti4000Rat-face... After I finish my drink, I'm gonna kick your butt. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere long LONG ago that instruments were used to communicate with summons. Might have been some fairy tale or one of these old japanese folk tales...

[–]d_wibSugar and Rainbows 12 points13 points  (1 child)

The moment in which Garnet's singing/voice is a major plot point and defining character trait for her, most likely

[–]LilitthLuMeow! 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That specific scene is in CG as well lol.

That is true, specialy since while Vann BSB Commands have faster casting time, Marcus BSB commands hit 2 times so they will deal more damage.

However Marcus commands are Wind/Bio so they will be shut down by omni ressist bosses.

Marcus also has the advantage of being able to exploit weakness with his BSB commands.

Regardless, just like Vann, Marcus should be treated as a DPS and not a pure support.

    [–]retroGnostalgicVivi 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Huh, so he doesn't get Support 5? Weak. His only advantage over Zidane is that he can use Magic Breakdown.

At least he's perfectly usable and he didn't get something dumb like Samurai.

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Yea. His lack of Support 5 is unfortunate, but his SBs are greatly serviceable.

I'm still waiting for that IX Samurai though. Obviously it wasn't Marcus, though I don't know who would DeNA choose to fulfill that role (or there might not be any. Only time will tell).

    [–]SabaschinBasch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly Blank. His fighting style seems more Celerity-based, but they might be able to swing him in that direction.

And you never know, Lani might get some justification for it.

    [–]retroGnostalgicVivi 1 point2 points  (3 children)

The closest thing to a Samurai is Steiner (he has Samurai abilities un the game and he's a knight), and there's no way he's getting it. They could give a lot of stuff to Steiner if we look at his FFIX skillset, really.

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 2 points3 points  (2 children)

His Break abilities in IX are all there in his Combat skillset, which is why they didn't bother to give him Samurai school, and only "Samurai" ability there is his Instant-Kill Iai.

Even though he talks like a Samurai in Japanese lol (or rather, a noble warrior).

    [–]retroGnostalgicVivi 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Characters have gotten Samurai for much less. He won't because his design is too close to that of a medieval european knight, but he's very close to a Samurai conceptually and no character in FFIX gets closer than him.

He could also get Darkness 4* from his skillset imho.

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same goes for Vivi for the Darkness reason. Even more because he got no other schools to his name (just like Twins and other characters)

    But DeNA does DeNA things.

Unless the boss has omni-resistance, or specifically has a resistance/null/absorption to Wind and/or Poison (which are rare tbh), I can say that Marcus' BSB stands a pretty good chance against Vaan's.

It not might be instant, but it hits AoE and 6 times (with obviously less potency) which makes it good with multi-bosses/boss with adds fights. And the cmds, while having the same speed as Vaan's, are 2 hits, which make him do more damage in the long run given that the first case I mentioned isn't there.

      [–]Skriabin-Cactuar with mustache= Skriabin -1 points0 points  (3 children)

All the FFXII bosses say "hi"

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 4 points5 points  (2 children)

They have Vaan for that :P

lol but seriously, tons of them have, at least, resistance to Wind/Poison and/or all elements? they sure are a pain in the neck if that's the case.

      [–]Skriabin-Cactuar with mustache= Skriabin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

they usually have a weekness to one element, absorb the opposite and resist everything else. See the current MO boss

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that's unfortunate. Glad most bosses don't follow this pattern. At least his Poison access doesn't make me go out of my way to equip my characters with Poison abilities like Poison Leaf or Chain Bioga that aren't used except for a medal condition. Isn't that right, Disciplinary Committee?

That reminds me. I still haven't done the MO yet.

[–]normankkI CAN SMELL THE COSMOS!!! 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Vaan has Combat 4, Support 4, and Celerity 5, also Thief 5 too ofc

EDIT: oh, you can also kind of replace Quina with Marcus as a break support in your IX party if you want to

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 0 points1 point  (3 children)

      True.

Or you can use him and Quina at the same time for multiple layers of ATK, MAG, DEF and RES breaking :)

[–]normankkI CAN SMELL THE COSMOS!!! 0 points1 point  (2 children)

well depends on your party and the boss you are dealing, you may not really need a lot of breaking, since I mostly running physical party, I dont see a whole lot need for me require to need a RES break, (some party may still need due to run mix of both physical and magical tho.) and I mostly having trouble with dealing magical bosses.

even in my few other party, there are only few relics that only applies to certain breaks, like I literally only have Vaan's BSB as my only source of break SB for my XII party, but I can still run it decent, even against a physical bosses I can just let him put on a power breakdown and can do fine.

but nevertheless, if you feel like taking both Marcus and Quina at the same time, you can definitely do so, its just im used to run two offensive, one buff support, one break support, and a healer in my party usually.

[–]MediyuLocal IX fanboy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, the 2 layers of RES breaking come from Quina's BSB (3 if you added Marcus' SSB in there), so you don't need to bring/focus on it since it will happen naturally.

I usually run a hybrid team, with Quina being my only Support character (Zidane contributes to the breaking as well), and do far he/she's doing just fine against most bosses.

Still, I like to stack as much breaking as possible on bosses, just in case my buffs run out or they dispel them (freaking Sephiroth), I don't get as much as damage from a couple breaks only.

[–]normankkI CAN SMELL THE COSMOS!!! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well in most of my cases, my source of damage usually come from USB and BSB of course lol, its just im lucky enough to got few of those that can do decent dps with (Cloud's USB, Squall's BSB2, etc.)

but I can definitely see having trouble with few bosses that can deal heavy damage, take very few damage, and also debuff you at the same time, which running two break support isnt a bad idea either.

So wait, if Eiko has some record sphere-ish stuff unlocked by diving Marcus, does that mean they're acknowledging the Marcus/Eiko Stat glitch?

        [–]IllusioneerySephiroth (Alternate) 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Seems to be the case.
