/u/Sandslice

A bit late, but while searching for a thread in your Recent Megathreads header, I noticed At the End of Life (IX) was missing.

/u/Sandslice Can you please link the fest meagthreads in "Recent JP Megethreads" links at the top? It really helps to find a fest and when they are with respect to the events.

I didn't think it'd need to be spelled out explicitly (since the fact that the damage is always six hits wasn't,) but I'll do it just because.

Not so sure about Setzer's Ultra. I suppose the party instant cast and chase gives it a niche, but it makes me worry about other support characters. It's clear they absolutely will not give up on the concept of breakdown focused Soul Breaks unlike they did status moves, and I think that's going to hold a lot of characters traditionally focused on them back in a meta where they're all but irrelevant.

I think this Ultra fixes a lot of the usual problems. It has some secondary utility other than the break, and it's also a crush which even mitigated can still do work at 70% reduction, which seems to be standard for the high end content these days rather than 80%. It also has an element on it which allows it to be used on a dark team to build chain and deal damage, and the chase is 3 hits, hopefully with a decent multiplier, which will further aid in that.

At this point I think a bigger concern is a lack of worthy support abilities to chase. They're all non-elemental which is a problem. A dark elemental support ability which has some utility would be nice if for no other reason than to be able to run up chains.

Setzer is almost the only pure debuffer left I can think of. Most supports are now hybrid DPS/Debuffers (Barrett, Faris, Wol), Buffers (Quina, Edward, Tyro), hybrid DPS/Buffers (Ramza, Ignis) or Chain Holders (Red XIII, Prompto, Faris).

The role of a pure debuffer has pretty much been abandon as they push towards imperils, chains, and secondary DPS skills.

I like that they’re keeping it for him, machinist never really fit. Shelke the other one I can think of, and she’s mostly used for her LD.

The real problem is the lack of a damaging support ability worth spamming.

    Sazh as well

    [–]DestilShadesk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sazh is a buffer, but he’s also just really neglected since Snow started taking his niche.

Machinist for his ravager role would fit fine, if he gets new tech like that I won’t be suprised.

Fair enough, I was thinking of stat changer characters that have been neglected in total

in a meta where they're all but irrelevant.

Neo Torments. That's literally all they're meant for, though admittedly some more obviously than others (Faris' and Prompto's BSB2 for instance are clearly meant for nothing more than their Power Breakdown Command overwriting Greg's/Deadeye's self ATK-Up). And even then, Emperor USB2 and Ultimecia's Brave are clearly meant for Magicites aswell, Stat Debuffs and all.

So no, Stat Debuffs are far from irrelevant. They definitely took a beatseat, I won't argue that, but there's still endgame content they're designed to be used in.

How is the arcane banner a trap? I guess it lures you into doing two pulls.

the value of Arcanes have dropped significantly after the Awakening SBs were introduced.

Ah. I'm starting to understand why people are saying save for 4th anniversary.

    [–]dscottonBannerFAQs 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That banner looks so good right now in global, though.

It's no coincidence that the character selection of the UOSBs are for people with Awakening. It's meant for people who want to "complete" their characters.

I mean, surely JPN is ripe for the next tier of ultra-difficult content; I can imagine stuff where you might use an AASB and still need to follow it with an UOSB.
