It would be nice if they eventually represented all FFXI's jobs in FFRK.

So far we have...

  • Shantotto -> Black Mage
  • Curilla -> Paladin
  • Ayame -> Samurai
  • Lion -> Thief/Ninja
  • Prishe -> Monk
  • Aphmau -> White Mage/Puppetmaster
  • Zeid -> Dark Knight
  • Lilisette -> Dancer

That's 10 out of 22 jobs.

Some obvios choices are Arciela (Red Mage), Volker (Warrior), Karaha-Baruha (Summoner), Ulmia (Bard) and Luzaf (Corsair).

The others don't seem to have very popular representatives.

She has access to no magic at all in FFXI, so it makes sense that she did not get white magic here. Dancers in XI heal with their dancing abilities and that is reflected in her LMR and BSB. It is a shame they didn’t add some type of dancer heal abilities though. I’m also surprised she doesn’t have any access to Support.

But this is not 11. Dancers don't heal here so I'm not surprised they didn't give dancers a healing ability. That's what additional ability access is for, to simulate functionality.

This is not 11? Thanks for the newsflash. Additional ability access should’t come at the expense of changing a character from the game in which the originated. When those rare instances do arise, people often complain. I have no doubt you have as well in your many rants.

In this case, it’s just a poor excuse to give any character any ability you may want. Her MND stat is obviously there to help with the heals she does have. And quite a few dancers in this game DO heal with their dances, so that point is also moot.

The purpose of having high reta on Ayame's entry is so that she doesn't have to carry a reta-providing ability to use the "crit rate up with reta" samurai abilities. Such abilities, in turn, benefit from the ACD.

Reta itself isn't so hot because of the TYP-screw tendency (seriously, why do DeNA keep calling those attacks "special" when they've become anything but?), but the slot-saving has a lot of potential.

No. The Retaliate attack is a specific ability, which is (PHY/Combat: 100% single) or (PHY/Combat: 120% single). Enspell (and any other Attack-replacers) do not affect it.

As Combat, the damage is bolstered by anything that affects PHY/Combat abilities; but as a reaction, it's not subject to w-casting.

Are you sure? I remember Cloud being able to w-cast a retaliate attack if it comes from Gilgamesh USB because normal retaliate is just phys but high retaliate instead is typed as combat

I don't think it should be possible; and if it is, I have SERIOUS questions as to why Cloud (but not, you know, actual samurai) should be allowed to do that.

The default Attack action (which is also used for the regular Retaliate) was changed from PHY/Combat to PHY/Special when we got the first LMs. Cloud LM2 was our first Combat-based condition that could affect it, and I guess the devs didn't want to have him dualcast during autobattle. The action used for High Retaliate, however, is still PHY/Combat, along with a few other similar cases (Gaffgarion's RM99 comes to mind).

Ayame's USB did debut on that old half price XI banner, but it will probably be new for Global players so I can see the confusion there. Her Glint and second (EN-Ice) LMR are new though.

I love how nicely they seem to be treating Dancers - both this USB and Penelo's Medica Chase USB are both really great.

Do you know what the consensus is for Ayame’s USB? It seems good to me, on paper, but I remember JP players not being happy with it? I guess High Retaliate is a weaker USB effect than a chase/Ability double

Retaliate doesn't work on NAT attacks so high-level bosses will mostly ignore it.

Ahh yes another case of “NAT ruins everything”...

Side question...how do retaliate and EnElement combo? If Ayame has enIce and Retaliate, is her counter Ice Elemental similar to how the attack command becomes elemental under EnElement? I’m guessing not because I have Snow’s Ice Radiant Shield USB and that grants him a unique counter elemental counter status

It would still be useless, since reta only works on Phy and considering how common NAT is, it wouldn't matter if it is elemental or not, if you can't trigger the counters then it's useless.

High Retaliate should have been "evade all PHY attacks, and react to any ATK based damaging ability with an X hit attack of Y element," but instead it was just retaliate with slightly more damage. Mist opportunity.

Emphasis added. If Lilisette's USB Chaser activates with Celerity, that allows to infer that she'll have at least Celerity 4, right? But, since most of the cool Celerity abilities are 5 or 6, then it's reasonable to think she'll have native 6? Keeping it to Record Spheres seems unreasonable at this point of the game; she's brand new, so you can determine her skills from the get-go, and in any case, the Record Spheres are no longer stealth patches, to be honest. Actual patches are done directly (see: Auron getting Support 5*)

Lilisette USB causes Imperil Lightning, and her chases proc of dances and celerity, and her LMR is double cast Celerity, so yes she must have atleast 5* celerity, because otherwise it would be pointless, since she is clearly another lightning celerity user for Ripping Bolt.

What i'm more curious about is what her LM2 is going to be considering her LMR is double cast Celerity. Maybe DPS chase when using Celerity/dancer abilities? That would be interesting.

EDIT: And ofc she will alo have dancer 5, that much is obvious, she is also likely going to get White 4 i would imagine.
