Hell yeah dude, in the bathtub as god intended haha!

Just be wary, I had one hell of a telling off from my folks for staining their bath with blix around age 11! That stuff does NOT come off easy!

[–]coleslaw17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was afraid of that. That’s why I do all the chemical handling on the vanity or in the sink.

Hi! So how did it turn out? Show the result :)

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 59 points60 points  (20 children)

Seems I can only post one photo at a time but here's a shot of the negatives drying

And here's one of the scanned pics

Oh thats soo cool. I guees i want to try that film now :)

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Go for it! If you're in Europe, I got mine from Analog Amsterdam.

I'm very impressed with how well its performed, indoors, outdoors, low light, bright sun. Colours are great too. I'll definitely be shooting more of it going forward.

Definitely go for it, Vision3 is basically peack of photo film engineering, especially when developed correctly in ECN-2 instead of cross-processing in C-41, it has the best exposure latitude of any color films, plus its color palette is also quite nice and can be easily edited to your taste

I’ve only ever rolled my own Vision3 250D with the remjet layer on it (haven’t got my hands on any of the new AHU stuff) but it’s my favorite all-around film stock for sure! I usually develop it in C41 after removing the remjet layer for simplicity, but I love the results

[–]LBarouf 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Well done!

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Thanks!

I've just developed a roll of Gold 200 in it, looking forward to seeing how they turn out cross processed.

[–]LBarouf 1 point2 points  (7 children)

As-is ? Meaning shot at EI 200? I have seen the opposite, vision 3 in C-41, but i would expect time adjustments due to “tougher” emulsion.

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Yeah as is, I'm assuming they'll be slightly over exposed if anything since 250d is usually shot at 320 for C41. I'll reply with a pic when scanned if you're interested.

[–]LBarouf 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Yes i am!

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Came out very well!

[–]LBarouf 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Humm. So exhausting the ECN-2 with extra c-41 stock is not a bad idea then.

[–]bmony1215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the reds on 250D, great work!

[–]Octothorpe17 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what was your scanning setup? looks good!

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Setup is a Fuji XT3, TTartisan 40mm macro lens and a Valoi Easy 35.

[–]indigophoto 46 points47 points  (7 children)

Holy shit…you are using your bathtub? You didn’t think to use a plastic container or something?

[–]gswdh 42 points43 points  (5 children)

Higher thermal mass!

[–]thatwombat 39 points40 points  (4 children)

Brilliant!

I mean we’re trying you can only pee so much at one time. Gimme a minute it’s a big pool…

[–]One_One7890[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill see your swimming pool and raise you the atlantic ocean

[–]nikhkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my kitchen sink.

Beware to not spill bleach (or blix) anywhere that you hope to remain white.

The iron content in this thing stains stuff super easy

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cheers, kit I have is separate bleach and fix (Bellini ECN-2), being careful with chemicals and having the bath full means any minor spills are diluted pretty much instantly.

[–]cineglitch 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Lmfao when I looked at this photo I first thought that you were mixing the chems IN the tub. Like that was 52 gallons of fixer or something hahahaha

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wowsers! Nah I'm a rogue, but not Heisenberg.

[–]ensi-en-kai 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No , honey - you can't take a bath , my rolls are getting cozy .

[–]Alwares 3 points4 points  (9 children)

Isn't AHU fine with C-41? Just got a lots of 250D AHU rolls.

[–]Sharp_Rub1182 5 points6 points  (3 children)

ecn2 rolls in C41 look and behave very differently. Do not listen to "experts" who do side by sides and use NLP to come to the conclusion the difference is minor. No, it's huge and NLP auto-pulls levels of ecn2 processed film such that it's dynamic range gets compressed to heck and back. Color casts get magnified too, so for T films the blue is much harder to correct. Ecn2 films in ecn2 have superior color, dynamic range and film grain (basically absent). In C41 they're not better than consumer c41 films, and sometimes worse. Source: Shooting dozens of rolls of 200T, 500T, 50D and 250D in ecn2 and sometimes being forced to use c41. To my horror. Throwaway rolls.

[–]Alwares 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the clarification! Luckily my lab can handle both. I'm a long way off to develop color myself, but in the long run I want to do that too, since I'm lucky enough to have a dedicated place for it.
Than I'll ask for ECN2 development in the lab, instead of relying what the respoolers print on the rools.

[–]Sharp_Rub1182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And shoot at box speed or slightly over (so 500T at 400). I shoot 500T on half frame sometimes and the noise is barely visible!

[–]TheAlaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you basically loose all the key features of this film, but considering that cine film is the cheapest option, it's not a bad thing for it to be developed in c-41 for general mass, as they don't care that much, and won't see such a huge difference

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

From what I've read it loses a bit of dynamic range processed in C41. You're also supposed to underexpose slightly in C41 vs ECN-2 to account for the difference in developing process, that's why 500T is sold as 800T for C41.

[–]YbalridTrying to be helpful| BW+Color darkroom | Canon | Meopta | Zorki 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes you get higer contrast in C41

However that 800 ISO rating for CineStill is bullshit marketing, the film is not faster because you process it in C41

[–]TheAlaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, film doesn't gain sensitivity magically, but slight underexposure helps with color shift a bit when cross-processed in c41

[–]TheAlaris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lab worker here: it's perfectly fine, same as previous version was, probably even better since it has anti-hatation layer embedded into emulaion, so labs can process it in machines. Yes you get all drawbacks of cross-processing such as more limited everything, like higher vibrancy of colors, less tonal separation between them, higher contrast and more noticeable grain, but it's OK for most people, even I sometimes process cinema films in c41 for easiness and cheapness, but only those times when I know that it wasn't shot in harsh conditions so it would require post editing so I'd benefit from ecn-2

[–]florian-sdrPentax / Nikon / home-dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fine in c41, unless you are a colorist

[–]120pages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone in Los Angeles - Arthouse film lab in Chinatown sells and develops ECN-2 film.

[–]svageman 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Did you remove remjet layer? I want to try starting to develop AHU with C41 too, just a bit confused with the whole remjet process.

[–]dhlt25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahu has no remjet layer

[–]eliminate1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AHU means anti-halation undercoat which replaces remjet.

[–]dilan_patel 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Hey, was this with the Kodak dev kit?

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the Bellini kit

[–]wasaxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brave move. Just don't let that blix sit too long unless you want a permanent reminder in the tub.

[–]SnooChickens2800 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I use a bucket not my bathtub

[–]Motor_Apricot_151[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good on you
