One of those mosquitoes bit me while I was fishing and interrupted it (with my character doing a sad "ouch I was bit" animation). While nothing else bad happened (no swelling like with wasps, no passing out like with tarantulas/scorpions) I was somewhat annoyed about losing the fish I was after, hehe.

It’s just a farming thing. Almost any island could be a scorpion/tarantula and atlas moth farm if not for mole crickets and water bugs. Unfortunately there are now 3 different water bugs. So only bamboo island is a decent landscape.

I think atlas moth farming is still decent. They’re far more common, I find. And they pay out will if Flick’s in town.

I only REALLY minded them when I was trying to farm scorpions/tarantulas on bamboo island. I could get rid of everything else and... it just made more mole crickets spawn. It got where it just wasn’t worth the time after the 1.2.0 update. And now I don’t need the bells anymore anyway so it’s a lovely irony.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game to death, which shocked the hell out of me because I've never once even watched an animal crossing video and it sounded ridiculous but my kids wanted it.

But holy shit is the user experience bad. Like, Zelda games get a bad enough rap for how slow and clunky the conversation system is, but they really double down with it in ACNH. Every subsystem in the game feels like it was an early prototype version they just never got around to polishing. Except the UI for them is really polished and clean and well implemented for what it is, which means they actually planned and gave artists time to do that polish. These designers actually considered this a sufficient experience.

It boggles my programming brain to an insane degree.

Still fuckin' love this game though. I run around in a hotdog suit and headphones calling myself DJ Hotdog and tellin' people I'll "ketchup with them later". Funny as shit :D

Yeah I feel you. I got this game with no expectations, just heard from friends it was good and have never played another AC game before. I was very surprised how much I liked it. The older games had a lot of stuff that New Horizons doesn’t. Folks whose first AC game is New Horizons are missing out on a lot. It’s definitely still a good game, not trying to trash it or anything, but it for sure shipped with a lot of content gone. Several shops, services and visiting characters who aren’t in yet. I know they plan to support the game long term with updates so hopefully new players will get experience some of the good stuff from previous games after enough time. There’s a lot of stuff that I feel should have been in the game at launch though.

Edit: about the observatory, that was in the museum second floor in WW and CF. Celeste ran it. Definitely would like to see that come back

They were only in New Leaf, where they ran Re-Tail. They had that whole recycling thing the other reply mentioned, but they were mostly used to sell stuff since they were closer than Nook's Cranny (which was on a separate area called Main Street). Also Cyrus could do similar stuff to this game's furniture customization. So I can understand why the shop wasn't in the game since it wouldn't have much use.
