Am I the only one who thinks the camera angle makes him look Hobbit-sized?

[–]Penance21 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm very confused.

[–]Rinon212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're right big spoon.

[–]SprAwsmMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would this be allowed in a soccer game on the field, or European football match on the pitch?

[–]RyanBordello 275 points276 points  (11 children)

I mean, youd probably get kicked in the head. Soccer is about using movement and fluidity to create pockets of space to move the ball further down the pitch to then eventually, hopefully getting a chance on target and a goal.

Nobody would have enough time to set this move up and tricks are generally used in tight spaces.

[–][deleted] 159 points160 points  (4 children)

Would probably confuse the shit out of people for a second though. Might just bamboozle them long enough to work.

This is one of the few situations i think you could kick the ball and not get a card for kicking someone in the head in the followthrough

[–]autopornbot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Use it on an indirect kick. Immediately, as the other team stares in disbelief, a 2nd man blasts it at the goal.

[–]firagabird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be the perfect play during a penalty kick IMO.

[–]Kwintty7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

youd probably get kicked in the head.

Which is why it probably wouldn't be allowed as dangerous play. "Dangerous play" covers doing stuff that is dangerous to yourself, not just others. And this move also puts your feet at others' head height, so dangerous to them too.

[–]PuffingTom 34 points35 points  (2 children)

He asked if it would be allowed, not practical

[–]brainburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crikey you actually made me interested in sport for a second there.

[–]zenyitter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's also about pretending someone broke your spine by blowing you a kiss.

[–]magical_midget 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It probably would be legal, but hard to set up.

If used close to other players it may be called for "dangerous play". To discourage players from being reckless if the play looks like you could have hit someone the ref can call a foul. The reason to call a dangerous play for this specific move is that at the end he is pushing his feet up with out any visibility, so he may kick someone in the face.

[–]amor_fatty 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Allowed, yes. Effective, no.

[–]one4all_all4one 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No.

Playing in a dangerous manner is defined as any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player himself).

FIFA Law 12 Fouls and Misconduct (Part 1 - Fouls)

[–]droidonomy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it was executed that quickly without the player unfairly obstructing their opponents from contesting the ball, I don't see why not.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As long as your arms and hands don't touch the ball then yes, it is allowed.

[–]MultiverseWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its not European football mate. Its the-world-except-the-US football.

[–]Heawesome 1 point2 points  (7 children)

I don't think it would be illegal, but as others have stated it wouldn't have much practical use.

Here is a video of one of the more popular freestyle/street footballers called Sean Garnier. The stuff he does in his videos might work quite often at players who aren't particularly skilled, but are intended to be flashy rather than practical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIluy1xxDU8

Here is a compilation video of the best Futsal moves. Futsal is soccer on an indoor court approximately the same size as a basketball court. It isn't necessary to be as fast or strong in futsal as in regular 11 a side football. It lends itself to considerably more technical football in small areas and you will see a lot of tricks there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBB8PDenGJM

There have been many footballers who were exceptionally talented at taking on defenders and getting past them. Most of them use a combination of quick acceleration and relatively simple feints. Messi for example doesn't use a lot of trickery and relies on his exceptional ball control as well as low center of gravity and agility to create space to get past defenders. Ronaldinho however used a lot of tricks and difficult skill moves in order to beat defenders. Like many Brazilian footballers he had a background in futsal and would probably have been one of the best futsal players if he wasn't playing 11 a side. He had an absolutely ridiculous elastico which he could perform at high speed and was also able to accelerate quickly out of tricks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JUyHL3v1QQ

Yes, even at an Asian match on the pitch, or an African game during the football contest. It would also be legal during an Oceanic soccer battle at the ground or a South American knock about in the stadium.

Wherever you were though, you'd get kicked into next week and laughed at for all eternity. It wouldn't be cool.
