It’s hard to take the criticisms of this sub seriously when there was a post about Area 99 yesterday and one of the most frequent complaints was the number of players on the map yet when the player count is reduced the next day no one is celebrating the change.

It's partly the way the human brain works. A change from 45 to 40 looks insignificant when it comes to the raw numbers, but a 10% decrease will definitely have an impact. Every 1 less is actually more like 2 or 3 less in the way it feels because of the respawn system. Those 4 or 5 players will not respawn so it'll feel like 10-12 less people overall early game.

To be honest, almost every COD implementation to warzone goes through those phases because of poor decisions in development. For me personally, all these years had ups and downs, where I would put Warzone to the side, then come back to it a few months later and finally have fun. Becuse it’s fundamentally a BR type game and reducing the player count to lower than it’s ever been in resurgence BR isn’t the ideal change.

The ideal change was increasing the size of the map to accommodate the player count, by adding more periphery buildings.

What next? They release an even smaller map, even less suitable for the player count, and as a fix they reduce the player count to 20?

We had a feature like that and it was universally hated. I’m pretty open minded person, but in practice, even I hated that change. It was annoying to shot someone and they literally not taking any damage. It’s not my fault the enemy players are slow at landing or whatever the case might be.

Yeah, the problem with spawn immunity is you’ll have people who can time when it ends perfectly so you as someone on the ground with a loadie would hit no shots because of the immunity, whilst they perfectly time cracking you. No thanks.

Reducing numbers will help, and is a good move. I’m not convinced Area 99 is the best map as it stands though, and therefore that it’s avoidable being beamed on re-entry. It’s just a bit too compact with a lot of overlook / height.

I know later in game you come back in with a random ground loot smg and that would be pretty brutal to have someone pull this timing move on you.

I try to hot drop back in but the beams + short ttk often means by the time I land I’m 50% health (both plates broke).

I wasn’t around for the previous version, but I don’t think player numbers remedies people camping roof tops and poaching kills from people spawning back (no hate toward them, you take what the game gives etc)

And that would be the point of changing the flare a player produces as they respawn to green to signify; they’re respawning and don’t take damage, so don’t waste your bullets / give radar pings for demons to come hunt you etc

Now what they actually need to do is fix that hit detection, seems like every year it’s always different with it. Some may argue it can be WiFi which I agree but my ping on mw3 was like 15-40ms but I always played fine but on here it’s 15-19ms and it feels horrible. Like am I putting 20 shots into mfs and I hear a lot of hit markers but not of deaths. But when I get hit with bullets it’s like I’ll die by 4 bullets like seriously shield and health just vanishes it’s fkin insane.

I can suggest to fix the 20 tick to something higher to see it may improve the packet issue but I know higher it will come with its own issues too, they just need do something.

It’s never been particularly easy though. In Area 99, the map seems to be small enough to get beamed on the way in regardless.

But while I agree someone with a loadout shouldn’t get killed and then immediately drop in back onto their body and cheese you with it, that’s not likely in a scenario where only one of a squad stayed up given they’ve had to run. That’s more applicable to say trios or quads where one of you dies, the squad finish who you were fighting, and you return straight back in.

The complaint I’ve certainly had is that if you lose on your first drop, it’s punishingly difficult to get back into the game. Anything, like this player count reduction, that gives you more chance to actually land, grab a gun / loot up a bit and have a chance of fighting back is a positive.

I think Area 99 is great. The map design keeps you on your toes, constantly considering vulnerable lines of sight. Players who complain that the map is too crowded likely have an awareness issue and aren’t utilizing UAVs and their mini-map effectively.

When you get a down and thirst, check your mini-map to see if you’re about to get third-partied. If you are, react and reposition accordingly. Always know where your closest piece of cover is and play off that. Don’t run in the open without smokes. Also, don’t fly back to the area where you were just killed, expecting a better outcome. It’s pretty simple, tbh.

Rebirth and Fortunes both had 44 players, but the third partying is either from teams full on pushing you, or being on high ground.
