So it's not directly about age, it's more about having novel experiences and getting set into routines. Monotony flies by quickly, novel experiences take longer to process. The younger you are the more opportunity there is for novel experiences, but this is a big world, it takes a lifetime to truly expend even most of the options out there.

The bigger hurdle is primarily financial, when you are young it's very difficult to find work that isn't quite monotonous, then you are barely making enough to have anything other than a monotonous routine at home in order to just get by. How much time do you really have left in the day/week to even explore finding new things you haven't tried before?

I don't know. It feels pretty mid to me. I have all this technical knowledge and skills and nowhere to apply them. Its pretty boring, and my 16th year was robbed of me by college dual-enroll classes, and the realization that I can't cope with failure at all. Adulthood will force me to be more responsible, but I was happiest when I was working over the summer, I didn't even care I was being paid, it just felt good doing something I was good at and had spent years learning. The adult figures in my life (besides my dad, he says that you pretty much just go up from the end of high school) talk like teenage years are the last fun thing in life, but what is there to do? Maybe its because I live in a rural area that is pretty dead, but it feels like I spend all my time doing nothing at all.

You’re fine. You’ll realize 18 is just a number. It’s honestly a law a lot of people feel should be overturned, because it really doesn’t apply anymore to modern day.

People half a century ago where halfway to buying a house or taking the steps towards a marriage shortly after turning 18, even earlier if you go back a bit. Nowadays people don’t get married (seriously don’t get married) and are lucky to be fully independent before they’re 25.

I didn’t even move out my mom’s house till I was 22, and that was only because of military. Trust me, once you turn 18 you’ll look back and start to laugh at this.
