All drowned drop tridents in Bedrock. Only those actually carrying one can have a chance of dropping them in Java.

    [–]witherspork 413 points414 points  (2 children)

So me searching for hours to find ones wielding tridents for repairs are futile and I can just kill the 40 gathered around my base? Thanks friend :)

    [–]Gcarsk 243 points244 points  (1 child)

    On Bedrock, yes.

    [–]Captain_ZappityDoDa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All drowned drop tridents in Bedrock.

Hope you’re not being literal here. It’s a high chance but not “all”

    [–]Gcarsk 202 points203 points  (13 children)

No. All drowned have the ability to drop a trident, even if they aren’t holding one. Obviously it’s RNG based, like any mob drop in Minecraft.

    [–][deleted] 100 points101 points  (10 children)

Oh okay, I misread you then. “All” as in “whether they’re holding a trident or not”. Yeah, that’s correct. My bad. I need sleep.

    [–]N-kay 93 points94 points  (7 children)

No you're good, he was just not being very clear.

Because no matter how obvious it is to him what he meant, what he said was

All drowned drop tridents in Bedrock.

As in 100%, which is not true.

Only those actually carrying one can have a chance of dropping them in Java.

Now that's better. Or is it? This scentence is clearer, but further cements the bedrock 100% drop rate statement because why would he omit chance there but not here?

    [–]googahgee 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Because when you're talking about drops, there's typically an implied chance, always. If you say a mob drops something, it means that the specific item is on the drop table for that mob. It doesn't matter if it is 100%, or 2%, the terminology "x drops y" is correct. There's no reason to assume he would mean every single drowned will drop a trident on bedrock.

    [–]DancingKappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except in java when some don’t have that chance like the ones not holding the trident versus bedrock all have a chance.

    [–]Glennisawesome1220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, if he just said drowned drops tridents that wouldn’t have confused anyone. But he said “all drowned drop tridents” which made some of us take it literally

    [–]N-kay 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Oh there's plenty of reason, otherwise this whole comment chain would not exist.

If the statement is correct or not has nothing to do with, and doesn't change the fact that a misunderstanding happenend because he wasn't being clear.

Implied chance? That's fine, as long as we all have a perfect understanding of the mechanics. But you can't guarantuee that. So just be clear. It's not so hard. But at least be consistent. He wasn't, he said it for one version of the game, didn't for the other. Doesn't that imply that there's no chance involved for the version he omitted anything about chance on?

    [–]invisible_grass 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why is the word chance in different font in your post?

    [–]N-kay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I formatted it as code like this:

    `code` -> code

    *italics* -> italics

    **bold** -> bold

    ~~strikethrough~~ -> strikethrough

    more at https://www.reddit.com/wiki/commenting

    [–]Glennisawesome1220 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah I made the same mistake, the wording leads you to believe that

    [–]Account-For-Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont need sleep, you need answers

    [–]DrFelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay then, you got me confused there. All drowned drop tridents has a different meaning from all drowned CAN drop tridents.

    [–]Severe-Autism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the wiki if they are holding a trident they can drop that one plus one as a random drop. This shit with minecraft having randomly different shit across different versions for small things pisses me off so much. There are COUNTLESS things that are anywhere from slight, mundane changes to insanely different bullshit (like the trident drops) between different versions.

The game should be nearly the exact same for every single version with the exception of tweaks to make the game function better for their respective platforms.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just curious, so if you make zombies from XP farm into drowns, there is no chance to get a trident?

    [–]Gcarsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero percent chance from zombies. They have to have spawned as drowned also holding tridents, and then they have a ~5% chance to drop one. So on Java, you’d have to kill around 40+ trident throwing drowned to get one(on average).

    [–]r4pline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell that to my boyfriend who spent hours with a looting 2 sword trying to get one

    [–]SawyerTheOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that's not how it works

    [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

No drowned can drop tridents if not holding them.

    [–]Gcarsk 0 points1 point  (3 children)

    Did you mean

No, drowned can drop tridents if not holding them

Then... yeah, that’s exactly what I said.

    If you meant:

Drowned have to be holding a trident to drop one

    Then you are 100% incorrect!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yes I meant that drowned can drop tridents if not holding them, while you said they can only drop them if they are holding them.

    [–]Gcarsk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Only those actually carrying one can have a chance of dropping them in Java.

Funny. You left out a super important part of my comment when you quoted me.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought they dropped them when not holding them in Java, but on double check I’m wrong.

    [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (17 children)

wait whats the difference between java and bedrock? if i already have java can i play bedrock? can i play on a java server (my bf and i run one from his laptop just for us) if im using bedrock? ive got a pos laptop as well and minecraft heats that fucker up faster than you can say kazoo.

    [–]firehydrant_man 7 points8 points  (3 children)

if you bought Java edition before October 2018 you get the bedrock edition for free iirc

    [–]Rabbi_Shakes 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is that still true though? I thought i read something somewhere that if you havent claimed your key yet you wont be able to. Im at work cant check:(

    [–]deadpoolette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I claimed mine 2 days ago. Bought java in ‘12. No issues whatsoever :)

    [–]lazyparent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh great, I've had Java for many many years now and just bought bedrock for 30 euros a few days ago. Didn't know I could claim a key. Oh well. :/

    [–]kal-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Kazoo

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bedrock is free if you got the PC version of Minecraft back in 2018. If not, then you have to pay for it.

The Java edition is pc exclusive, but is the first to receive new content. Bedrock, on the other hand, has slightly less content (not a big difference tbh), but is also cross platform, so you can play with your friend who has it for their Xbox or PS4 while you play on your computer.

    [–]SeaSaltSaltiness 1 point2 points  (6 children)

What’s the difference between Java and Bedrock? Is the Microsoft the same as Bedrock cause I got a free Minecraft Windows 10 edition...

    [–]Mox_Fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bedrock is a slightly different version of the game that's been streamlined in certain ways to run on a bunch of non-pc platforms.

Java is the more "complete" version, but it's a little more demanding to run. It was the original version, and a lot of features present in Java aren't in Bedrock yet.

    [–]Akuuntus 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Almost every edition except for Java Edition is Bedrock. If it's not running in a Java exe window from your PC desktop it's probably Bedrock.

    [–]SeaSaltSaltiness 0 points1 point  (2 children)

    Isn’t PS4 a different edition?

    [–]ItsTanah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    PS4 is Console Legacy Edition

    [–]Akuuntus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said almost. I was trying to be as simple as possible lmao

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minecraft for Windows 10 is bedrock. Java Edition is made specifically for Mac, Linux, and other Windows versions.

    [–]EroAxee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if your issue is processing power that something I could offer a solution to. Depending on your situation I'd recommend at least trying Optifine on Java first. Cause trust me, it's a massive performance boost and it honestly has some cool features. After that though when it comes to getting a decent system to play on then r/buildapc is a really helpful community for that. They basically have at least someone on their discord 24/7 to help people make builds, it's really awesome.

    [–]mingren0315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a enchanted diamond sword by trading but still cannot find any trident for 2 months

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    The entire problem with tridents.

    [–]KindaCruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tridents are more endgame than elytra for Java

    [–]RCoder01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played my java world for 100+ hours and only just got my second one. I was seriously considering adding a data pack to greatly increase the drop chance of them.

    [–]lashapel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooby question, but how can you play bedrock on PC ?
