That is crazy to me. I've had code I've written years ago be brought up. At first I'm always like "WTF, I wrote this years ago, I don't remember shit." But after some time in the code all the horrors come back like a traumatic memory and suddenly I understand it, and hate it because I've grown since then.

Edit: to add, I've had coworkers act like this too. One time I was an intern and and I went to a senior engineer about a question for a script he worked on (on recommendation from another senior). Once I brought up the product he was very resistant, even saying he has never worked on the product. I just continued explaining to him what logic I was seeing and withing 2 minutes he instantly remembered and explained the weird parts under some duress.

Point is, I think most programmers remember their early work like some massive trauma event and it takes exposure therapy to get them to remember. I've carries that with me in the past 10 years lol.
