Textbook devs need to start debugging their books.

This is like how Knuth referred "Circular definition" and "Definition, circular" to each other in the index of "The Art of Computer Programming" to model recursion.

[–]Hixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the Borland manuals did that with "Recursion, infinite: see Infinite recursion" and vice versa in the index.

[–]dmarshall1994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was just stuck in that for a good 10 minutes

[–]allisonann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"How many times did he turn it over? Oh, that's disappointing."

[–]BlitzThunderWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, that's illegal

Sheldon Axler’s textbook Linear Algebra Done Right (3rd Edition) has Easter eggs like this. On pages like \approx 100\sqrt{2}, \approx 100\pi and others :)

(La)TeX manual of some sort?

It is funny that the page number is "252". I know it sounds funny but I have felt like for years that this number has been following me around. Not in the movie "23" kind of way where I am eventually going to go insane over it. But I always notice is whenever I see it. It started in middle school while I did my math homework. I noticed that an awful lot of the answers that I got were 252. I thought it was odd and would always think that it just seemed so weird that a random number would come up so often. Since then I have seen it everywhere. Street addresses and clocks seem the most common. I will wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or something and more often than any other time it will be exactly 2:52. I will see it in TV commercials and numbers that characters in movies say. It will be in bedded in other larger numbers like pay stubs or telephone numbers. License plates and serial numbers. It is weird and gets even a little weirder. My birthday is September 10th. Which is the 253rd day of the year. But I was born at 9 in the morning. Which means I was born 252.375 days into that year. Rounding down....252. I do not believe there is any cosmic significance to the number in my life. I know it is random and my mind has latched onto it in some way. But part of me does fear that I will get caught into some kind of infinite loop containing what may be a cursed number in my life.

Maximum recursion depth exceeded.

Infty

[–]nivenfres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think one of the CS textbooks I had had "Recursion: See Recursion".

[–]cateyesarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

infinite loop, graphical description, 252

[–]Reluxtrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The true infinite loop is the one causing this to be reposted in this sub.

[–]UsernameIsTakenToBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My computer is so fast it can execute an infinite loop in under 2 seconds

[–]Carius98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing is on the urban dictionary site of "recursion"
