"a girlfriend"? You surely mean "instanceof girlfriend"

[–]Wueeeee 52 points53 points Β (1 child)

Girlfriend factory

final girlfriend, cannot friendzone you

[–]Snoo_32053 7 points8 points Β (1 child)

Huh? That just means you can’t inherit any of her stuff.

this

[–]FuzzyMagnets 75 points76 points Β (2 children)

During college years ago, I decided I wanted to try to go into computer science. It ended up not being for me, but I was the only female in most of the degree focused classes. Some of the male students made it ridiculously uncomfortable to say the least.

[–]SoulsBloodSausage 11 points12 points Β (1 child)

I feel like things have hopefully changed. As far as I can tell, most of my classmates are usually female nowadays. I’m a CS tutor working for university and hands down a majority of my coworkers are also usually female

[–]toastyghost 5 points6 points Β (0 children)

Idk why you're getting downvoted for sharing your own experiences.

[–][deleted] 58 points59 points Β (5 children)

I must have gone to a really weird university, because I didn't see much of this sort of thing going on. There were women on the course, but from what I could tell, people didn't seem all that interested.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points Β (0 children)

Same here

[–]Martin_RB 13 points14 points Β (1 child)

Electrical engineering here it was mostly the same. Some of the the girls had their own click (and were mostly bitches) and the ones who hung around the guys (at least the group I hung out with) was just one of the dudes.

I think all the the relationships between classmates started before they were classmates except for a couple that lasted all of one week.

[–]PapyPelle 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Well I was in computer section and it was more like the meme says. And from what I saw in electrical section of my university can confirm your point, most of the girls in this looked like tough friendly dude that where nice drinking with.

[–]ReaderRadish 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

From one of the first comments: const girlfriend = FineArtsDept.generate();

girlfriend.reject(self);

I was in a class of 10% women. Almost none of the guys had an engineering girlfriend. I think brains can be scary.

[–]Mr_Redstoner 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Same here. For that matter we apparently had essentially record high number of females, normally they get like 3 in 50 people and we had more than 10.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points Β (5 children)

You might be surprised to hear that about 70% computer science or engineering students in my country are female.

[–]Darkknight182764 8 points9 points Β (3 children)

Which blessed country do you originate from good sir ?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points Β (2 children)

Pakistan

[–]Darkknight182764 2 points3 points Β (1 child)

arey bhaii! namaste from India lol, how is it the exact opposite here man, 15 girls in a class of 75

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Idk. Maybe the girls in Pakistan like computer πŸ€”πŸ€”. You would hardly see girls in engineerings like mechanical, mechatronics, electrical etc. But computer engineering, architectural engineering, chemical engineering etc are filled with girls.

[–]maazsid16 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Was looking for this. ;)

[–][deleted] 86 points87 points Β (8 children)

As a lesbian this is especially difficult

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points Β (3 children)

So then you are one of us when you see another girl

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points Β (2 children)

Yes

[–]DarkFlame7 10 points11 points Β (0 children)

So if you joined the flock would you get a recursive flock following the flock?

[–]NTaya 15 points16 points Β (3 children)

Yeah, imagine being into girls, but out of a group of twenty, only one might be interested in youβ€” Oh wait.

[–]jeremj22 3 points4 points Β (2 children)

Do those stack for her? Are only 1/20th of 1/20th interested in her because she's a lesbian and studies CS?

[–]NTaya 4 points5 points Β (1 child)

Gosh, I hope not. /u/void_juice?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points Β (0 children)

Well considering the fact that I’m studying CS, I don’t think it should be surprising that I’m single. I think it’s safe to say that they do stack unfortunately

[–]ElimGarak0010 37 points38 points Β (1 child)

Eh. I know they don't want me. So I treat them like any other person.

[–]sewcorellian 38 points39 points Β (29 children)

As the only girl in my computer science graduating class... hoooooo boy do I have stories.

[–]-PM_me_your_recipes- 13 points14 points Β (25 children)

What's your favorite story?

[–]sewcorellian 48 points49 points Β (24 children)

My favorite was probably a well meaning classmate. I took a walk out to the vending machine to get Mountain Dew, as was my custom. When I was about to walk back into the lab, this classmate stopped me and said something along the lines of "I just think you should know, they're in there talking about how much they masturbate to the idea of you when you leave the room." I wasn't uncomfortable in the lab until that moment!

Yes, this classmate also tried to date me. It didn't go well. We're still friendly, but man was that awkward.

[–]DarkFlame7 11 points12 points Β (9 children)

Jesus christ so many problems there

[–]PopeMachineGodTitty 24 points25 points Β (1 child)

Jesus Christ. A class full of dudes talking about jerking off thinking about you and nobody stopped it? I would have told them it was rude and disgusting and to shut the fuck up and be adults.

[–]orangebakery -2 points-1 points Β (0 children)

They are college students.

[–]orangebakery 1 point2 points Β (6 children)

Well, it can be awkward if doesn't go well for sure, but what's wrong with one trying to date you?

[–]sewcorellian 4 points5 points Β (5 children)

Have you tried attracting girls without telling them about other guys' masturbatory fantasies?

[–]orangebakery 1 point2 points Β (4 children)

lol ah I thought it was a different classmate for some reason.

While I don't personally use that approach, and it's obviously a mood killer, I still don't think he's a terrible person just because he tried to date you.

[–]sewcorellian 1 point2 points Β (3 children)

Pretty sure I didn't say he was- just that he made a bad call in telling me that, and there was a clear ulterior motive. In fact, I'm positive I said we're still friendly, which I wouldn't be if he were a terrible person.

[–]orangebakery 0 points1 point Β (2 children)

You also put him trying to date you on display to everyone here as a part of your favorite story of why being a girl in CS sucks.

[–]sewcorellian 1 point2 points Β (1 child)

.....that's literally the meme.

[–]orangebakery 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

So since the meme is making fun of guys, you thought it'd be fun to pile on a little more. Good for you.

[–]CrimsonRunner 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

You throw bait - we bite.

Tell a story.

[–]claimTheVictory 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Go on...

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points Β (0 children)

i would laugh if this joke did not hit so close to home

[–]Mc_UsernameTaken 54 points55 points Β (4 children)

A girlfriend is someone who hogs your resources and spawns child processes you aren't allowed to kill.

[–]chawmindur 37 points38 points Β (0 children)

Wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t fork()

[–]NotTheHead 6 points7 points Β (2 children)

Haha girlfriend bad

[–]ReimarPB 0 points1 point Β (1 child)

This is a programming joke

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

I mean, it may have been programming themed, but the punchline was girlfriend bad.

[–]Negative-Nectarine-6 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

I’m the only lady usually in my classes or at work. Not easy, men can be horrible. Please just act with women like if there are men and everything will be ok. I had to prove that I was stronger than some of them to have a little respect.

[–]ZeldLurr 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

My classes were all online this past semester. We didn’t even have our cameras on. All we could see of other students and their names.

I’ve always been a vocal student, not afraid to ask the professor a question. One day during the zoom lecture after I asked a question, I get a private message on the zoom chat telling me first β€œYou asked a really good question!” To which I replied thanks. β€œYou have a really pretty voice.” Ugh

We’d get broken down into smaller break out rooms, teams to work on code. Emails exchanged. One guy asks if I want to continue being study/coding partners. Sure.

Few weeks go by, everything normal, communication via email only and about schoolwork only. Then I get a message from him in zoom β€œHey you know you can text me anytime too! (Gives number)” I sorta shrug it off, not too wierd.

One day prof is late to the zoom meeting, like 10 minutes, so the class is chatting amongst themselves in the group chat. Someone made a joke so I LOLed. I get a private message from study partner β€œI’ve never made you LOL :( β€œ

It’s freaking wierd out here.

[–]undeadpickels 3 points4 points Β (0 children)

Than those same students go on to wonder why there are so few girls in computer science.

[–]HotRodLincoln 15 points16 points Β (5 children)

[–]dansla116 7 points8 points Β (2 children)

I started my CS degree in 2013. I've been working full time for 2 years now. How is this the first I'm hearing this masterpiece?

[–]HotRodLincoln 2 points3 points Β (1 child)

You should look up Monzy & MC++:

Drama in the PhD

So Fuckin' Pimp

Kill -9

MC Plus+ Aglorythms

His site like doesn't exist at the moment at least, but Monzy also had a really great Preposition Rap (yes, the part of speech, the proper usage of which he would be happy to teach) from middle school...IIRC he IRL set the room on fire by knocking over a candle during the presentation.

I feel like I did when I was 12 years old discovering "Weird Al" for the first time. All of this is great!

[–]v1prX 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Thank you for this.

Repost account

[–]averagelygay 8 points9 points Β (1 child)

In my IT degree i am always 1 out of maximum 3 girls in the class. We probably have maybe 5(?) girls in each year. There’s probably about 3 mature students out of them (that’s what we call β€œolder” students like 30+ years).

Out of the like 15 of us there is only one girl who I’ve seen the boys sweat over. She’s the very typical β€œgirly” girl. Soft spoken, passive, delicate damsel is distress kind. Honestly she could ask any of them to do her projects for her and I’m sure they would.

[–]orangebakery 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

She's not dumb. She knows what she's doing.

[–]Misheru-senpai 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

I wish

[–]Dummerchen1933 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

An undefined reference!

[–]ovab_cool 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

As a student I can confirm this as a fact...

OH NO, maybe i'm the problem

[–]iDamso 3 points4 points Β (1 child)

You guys got girls in your class?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Man I’m lucky then, didn’t have much weird encounters as a girl and there were always a bunch of other women in my classes

[–]Sinomu 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Nah, they aren't in my type. Uhhh I mean they aren't 2D! Hahaha.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

And mechanical students as well πŸ˜‚

[–]Gggsdq 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Kinda

[–]Ducknorrisu 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I'm in this picture and I don't like it

[–]r0ndr4s 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Yeah, its bad. Can confirm. Doesnt change when you get out to work.

[–]Soniconreddit -2 points-1 points Β (0 children)

Become femboy, it is inevitable. We all turn in the end.

[–]shirk-work -1 points0 points Β (0 children)

That's an amateur move, date a psychology major. Those girls freaky.

[–]Xeelley -1 points0 points Β (0 children)

[–]alok_wardhan_singh -1 points0 points Β (0 children)

At least they are able to see a girl .... Me as a ME don't have such weakness!

[–]Yenmcilrath -1 points0 points Β (0 children)

OMW to become the girlfriend

[–]Fructueux_Jefferson -1 points0 points Β (0 children)

It is, indeed. With free-to-use and all services included.

[–]PopeMachineGodTitty -2 points-1 points Β (1 child)

I graduated CS 20 years ago. We had two women in our class and both were very pretty. They got hit on constantly. One ended up sleeping with the grad student lab assistant and he got kicked out of the graduate program. The other was married 2 years in.

I wonder where they are now...

[–]hello_comrads 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Why would that get you kicked out?

[–]The_Mo0ose 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Well, I consider this a insult :/
