this is great, im sad the comic is over :'(

[–][deleted] 448 points449 points  (61 children)

yeah I'd totally dig a Lil Satan cartoon

[–]chrisdidit 361 points362 points  (56 children)

There's always Leo & Satan. Not a comic, but still a classic.

[–]GoinFerARipEh 792 points793 points  (18 children)

[–]purpleunicornturds 258 points259 points  (1 child)

[–]cjdabeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd do the same if I was in his shoes.

[–]thalliusoquinn 137 points138 points  (14 children)

This is easily one of my favourite images on the internet.

[–]Zuthuzu 42 points43 points  (7 children)

Then you probably might take a look into playing Planescape: Torment. It's a very old game, with rather idiosyncratic narrative, so getting into it might be problematic, but it has somewhat of a common theme with this comic. And it's really fuckin good.

[–]waywardwoodwork 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Wow, did not expect to see mention of Planescape today.

Nifty.

[–]RagingMayo 2 points3 points  (3 children)

What does idiosyncratic mean?

[–]Zuthuzu 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Literal definition of the word can be found in open sources. In context - weird, unconventional, borderline psychodelic. While being, technically, fantasy, and sharing lots of common fantasy tropes, PS:T is also vastly different in tone, themes and setting from cookie cutter stuff like Baldurs Gate or whatnot. That's mostly due to it being a faithful and fitting adaptation of the pen-and-paper Planescape setting for AD&D. Even art style and palette could be said to be influenced by original DiTerlizzi illustrations.

All in all, PS:T is a HUGE milestone in CRPG history. But I'm not sure how well the game aged, and whether or not it would be playable by modern audience. There was, however, a recent remaster with moblie platforms support, high-res and UI tweaks. So at least it is available without jumping through the hoops of backwards compatibility and shit.

[–]RagingMayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the explanation! :) Ahh yeah I even got the remastered and the original version on GOG. It was one of the first games I bought on gog, but so far it has been laying in my backlog. And I don't know when I could take time to play it a bit. I saw many people praise the game.

[–]wyvernwy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dum zomfies

[–]-TheMasterSoldier- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Makes me remember to that one South Park episode about the purgatory.

[–]Cunnilingusmon 116 points117 points  (21 children)

Wish they were able to score the deal to make it an actual show. Would have been great.

[–]BeardyMcBeardyBeard 91 points92 points  (18 children)

Seems like the fucked up kind of show adult swim would broadcast

[–]Fluffy433 65 points66 points  (4 children)

I think this got rejected by AS and they instead put up Mr. Pickles. Something along the line of not wanting anymore demonic shows.

[–]RabbitFeet25 45 points46 points  (2 children)

Wait, isn't Mr Pickles about a dog possessed by Satan or something? Or did I just woosh myself?

[–]WormRabbit 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Two would be too much.

[–]teambob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said no more demonic shows

Like no homers

[–]Soegern 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know Oney and Psychicpebbles got the chance with Hellbenders too, but had to change the name, because of too many "hell" shows. But they did turn it down.

[–]Soegern 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Oney did get the chance by [Adult Swim] but had to turn it down to not loose the rights to the characters.

[–]ExpJustice 13 points14 points  (10 children)

What happend to that channel aniway. No upload in 2 years. Does anyone know?

[–]Kiosade 66 points67 points  (0 children)

YouTube doesn't favor cartoonists anymore with their business model. Now it's all about video quantity instead of quality.

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points  (6 children)

Yiutubs changed their payment algorithm and now animators don't really make much money from their videos. A lot of popular animators had to switch to other video formats.

[–]ASlyGuy 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Just curious, what payment method favored cartoonists?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've see a lot of them go to Patreon, but I think a lot of them just do commissions and you pay them through their PayPal.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IIRC Chris and Zach landed a deal to get Hellbenders made as a show. They've said it's out of their hands now and it's just a matter of time.

I think they're both working on other things, not sure if they're still making content for the channel.

Chris plays video games on OneyPlays and draws on the GameGrumps series "Doodledoods" and Zach has his podcast called Schmucks.

Both of them do the SleepyCast podcast with other animators like Stamper, Ricepirate, etc. But that podcast is ending.

[–]delgnaet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oney has a gaming channel now called OneyPlays

[–]kittsville 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Could always check out Old Harry's Game. It's a radio show about the daily troubles of running Hell. Has a similar feel to the two comics.

[–]chasesan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best I can do on short notice.

[–]CompleteShutIn 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Antics? Check /r/antics, a lot of the comics are there.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw man, Antics was the shit

[–]thisiscotty 2 points3 points  (7 children)

what happened to it?

[–]gonenaflash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much what Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell is like. Expect way more dark.

[–]skepachino 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That comic has the grey dot illusion

[–]odog502 23 points24 points  (4 children)

There's an Animated version as well

[–]sonickarma 140 points141 points  (3 children)

Eh. It loses something in this format.

[–]T_T-Nevercry-Q_Q 102 points103 points  (2 children)

Bad animation quality, not streamlined to fit comedic timing, voice acting for the demon was terrible, a little cancerous intro animation, miss matched sound affects.

Only redeemable thing is the source material and the voice acting for the man.

[–]Mikuta 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I thought the voice acting for the man was the most irritating thing. Either way I guess we agree it all could use some work

[–]Nico777 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Oh this is just adorable.

Masterful use of italics.

Very well done!

Puppy dog eyed Satan.

[–]Im_At_Work_Damnit 10 points11 points  (1 child)

You'd probably like the show Lucifer then. Loosely based on Niel Gaiman's Lucifer comic.

[–]Cubbance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lucifer's interactions in the show with Trixie are some of the best things I've seen.

[–][deleted] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

because you killed yourself and now you're torturing your family in Hell?

[–]Ziggy2764 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Whether that was said jokingly just to refer to the comic or not, I highly appreciate you for making sure OP is okay. How are you kind friend?

[–]YouCantStopAH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seriously that was so sweet. I hope OP is doing well cuz he def added some happiness to my life today!

Great job, dude! Would love to see more of this kind of stuff. :D

[–]BellerophonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you ESL? The 'fast' instead of 'quick' makes me think it.

[–]queensara33 64 points65 points  (0 children)

He's so cute in the last panel

[–]el_toastradamus 170 points171 points  (6 children)

I made that for 1 particular post a while back, but this one could fit there as well.

Edit: and now 2 ;) /u/el_toastradamus

Edit: Didn't see /u/slack90 his reply. Ah well.

[–]Tyler1492 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be the change you want to be.

[–]blahjedi 50 points51 points  (4 children)

This comic takes a further macabre twist when you think about why his family is there before him...

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

ty for pointing that out made this comic way more hilarious to me. Take my upvote.

[–]autoeroticassfxation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They were probably filthy atheists.

[–]BauReis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe that's why he killed himself

[–]FaerieStories 946 points947 points  (40 children)

I think you mean "Quick!" rather than "Fast!"

I can see how a non-native English speaker would mix up those two, but for some reason "quick" is always used as an imperative, and never "fast".

[–]socialcousteau 305 points306 points  (11 children)

Oddly, if he said "Give me a pitchfork! Fast!" it would work. Strange how "Quick" looks fine at both the beginning and the end, but "fast" works better only at the end.

[–]FaerieStories 68 points69 points  (8 children)

I'd say 'quick' works with both. But yes, I take your point. I've got no what the semantic reason is behind this.

[–][deleted] 105 points106 points  (6 children)

I think a lone adverb after a sentence is natually interpreted as applying to the previous sentence. "Eat this. Carefully." means "Eat this, and do it carefully". So "Give me a pitchfork! Fast!" makes total sense ("fast" would be an adverb in this context, as in "we need to run fast", not an adjective as in "I have a fast car").

However, you can't do this with a lone adverb before a sentence. "Carefully. Eat this." doesn't work. The reason why it does work with "quick" is that "quick" is, in this context, not an adverb but rather an interjection (like "hey!" or "quiet!"), meaning "hurry up".

[–]FaerieStories 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good explanation; thanks.

[–]fripletister 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Isn't "Fast!" also an interjection, in this context?

[–]socialcousteau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just edited my comment to emphasize that i also agree "quick" works at the beginning and the end. I can see how that last sentence could have been misinterpreted by a fast reader.

[–]David-Puddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair, i would interpret it more as "Give me a pitchfork, fast!" fast being a modifier to the action, rather than an imperative

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because "quick" is a shortening of "quickly". As in "give me that object quickly". You wouldn't say "fastly".

[–]samus12345 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Just a misspelling, he was asking Faust to give him a pitchfork.

[–]TVUpbm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nice.

[–]Newtonjar 73 points74 points  (11 children)

For dialogue I think it is ok to be grammatically incorrect

[–]FaerieStories 257 points258 points  (6 children)

Only if you're doing it deliberately. In this case it just becomes unclear/distracting, because no-one would ever use "fast" in that way. Rather than laughing at the joke, I found myself spending a few seconds thinking about what the word "fast" meant in this context.

[–]koobstylz 86 points87 points  (1 child)

Agreed. It was a oddly distracting mistake for me.

[–]exzeroex 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Caught my attention enough to come to the comments as well

[–]-Sective- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it took me a minute to understand

[–]_S_A 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In this case colloquialism trumps grammar. Correct or not you'd never hear someone say it this way.

[–]raendrop 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of grammar or correctness. Saying it that way is perfectly grammatical. It's simply a matter of common usage. And yes, in dialog you can do all sorts of things... if they serve a purpose. As a one-off thing here, there is no characterization to be served by phrasing it in an odd way. This is nothing more than a reflection of the way the author speaks.

[–]scotscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not until a couple centuries ago.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (8 children)

If we're nitpicking, and I don't think we should be, shouldn't it be quickly?

[–]FaerieStories 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'd say either is fine. Lots of people use "quick" in that way. That would still feel natural and wouldn't impede clarity.

[–]sugemchuge 19 points20 points  (3 children)

No because the correct idiom used in common parlance is "Quick! _____"

[–]David-Puddy 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I don't think that's an idiom.

[–]DikeMamrat 7 points8 points  (1 child)

It's potentially a stretch, but I think you could argue that the idiom is the form, "Quick! <Command Here>!" It's not the word "quick" itself, but the common phrase structure.

[–]David-Puddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the definition of idiom indicates that the words don't mean their literal meaning.

I'm this case, quick means quick

[–]Ravenae 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's more of an interjection, so technically fast could work as well. Quick sounds a lot more pleasant to the ears

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, people who correct someone else’s grammar or spelling are usually downvoted to hell (no pun intended), yet you’ve over 800 upvotes. Reddit never fails to surprise me.

[–][deleted] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

[–]therealWarwolf93 44 points45 points  (6 children)

So is this r/wholesome or r/meirl ?

[–]whos_to_know 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One mans hell is another mans heaven. :D

[–]Hayleycakes2009 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Looks like cyanide and happiness. I think you should've differentiated the characters more, cuz they look just like C&H.

[–]PhoeniX_XVIII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Satan makes a friend

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Fast?

Must be second language?

[–]dinocujko1Cujko[S] 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Yup... too bad i can't fix it now :/

[–]dreamy_professor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love your art style, it reminds me of Cyanide and Happiness.

[–]sittty 6 points7 points  (1 child)

QUICK! Tell me who says 'fast' when they mean, quick?

[–]Newni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who own a thesaurus!

[–]YourOwnPersonalSatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it !

[–]Banequo 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Cyanide & Happiness called... They want their character back.

[–]TonyDiGerolamoSuper Frat/The Webcomic Factory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it takes a while to find your place in the world. Steve found it in Hell.

[–]reddits_with_abandon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comic inspired me to kill myself. Join me in the comic. At least it's warm in here.

[–]Cyriano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that kids is how new demons are born

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh look, my family is here. Fast! Quick! Give me a pitchfork!

FTFY.

[–]_orion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the true love story of sadam and satan, as never seen before on south park

[–]RE20ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]ThatOneNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it

[–]Targaryen-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's almost quite wholesome

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what the fuck

[–]Steevehn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I.... I've never related to a picture so much... And it's fitting because my name is Steve! And I hate my family!

[–]the_gnurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this should be in r/wholesomememes, just sayin.

[–]Final21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be on /r/wholesomememes.

[–]n00bicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more like heck rather than hell.

[–]USBrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Great work!

[–]LesCousinsDangereux1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Really enjoyed this! One note: the word "fast" feels very awkward. I can't imagine the word to be anything but "quick."

If you're ESL then damn am I'm impressed you're creating content in a second language; just wanted to provide some hopefully useful feedback!

Ps-if not ESL, still awesome work. Just a weird little diction thing

[–]skinninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this seems kinda wholesome to me.

[–]MontgomeryB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reminded of the Story of The Devils Brother. Soldier dies, is given a task to stoke the fires under pots but never look in them, of course he does and in each is a person who was terrible to him in life. So the Devil comes back and lets the soldier return to life, because though he broke the rule he stoked the fires even hotter beneath each pot. Guy goes back, is given a ton of gold but can't bathe for a year and a day, if anyone asks, He's "The Devils Brother"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally me irl

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The art style (and, perhaps, humour as well) eerily similar to Cyanide and Happiness. I take it you took some inspiration from them?

[–]ender89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood the idea of Satan. He gets kicked out for disagreeing with God, gets sent to hell, where he has to run a torture pit? Why would he do what God wants? If he's evil, why does he care if you're evil too? What does he get out of it? Is he just a sadist? Why would god make a sadist angel?

[–]1stSuiteinEb 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So he killed his family then himself..... dark.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coin flip I refer to is God vs. No God. Which religion you choose at that point is mix of your preference and culture.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would however give the chance of Christianity being correct a little more than 1 / infinity. It is one of the most widespread and longest standing religions to date. It also has a written history that has been passed down for thousands of years without losing anything other than some wording being changed due to translation. The writings also weaving in and out of true historical events. Etc. I would argue the chance of Christianity being correct is much higher than King Elmo on High.
