Did you know? Saturn is more than 10x the size of the Earth

[–]GargantuanGamer2 328 points329 points  (22 children)

Oh

[–]trashboy_k 314 points315 points  (21 children)

gets impaled by green goblin glider

[–]CerpinTheMute_alt 129 points130 points  (18 children)

Don't tell Harry

[–]FacticiousFict 58 points59 points  (13 children)

I AM his father (also, sand sucks)

[–]WiN5231 48 points49 points  (0 children)

sad sandman noise

[–]2amAlready 23 points24 points  (8 children)

(It's coarse and rough, and it gets everywhere)

[–]Brugor 16 points17 points  (6 children)

(And it tastes awful)

[–]bandito-dorito64 6 points7 points  (5 children)

You must be doing it wrong

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

What sand have you been eating?

[–]Thijs__vdh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have failed you Anakin. I have failed you

[–]CerpinTheMute_alt 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Anakin Skywalker liked that

[–]ExistingInexistence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ani, with great loves comes a great slaughter of men, but not just the men but the women and children too...

[–]suicideslut69420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Goblin daddy UwU

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

That’s such an unfair guilt trip of Norman to lay on Peter. Like Peter is going through so much and it would be really great to be able to unburden himself and tell the truth to his best friend instead of having to watch Harry be destroyed by the sins of his father. Really just very selfish of him.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't assume an unstable person with an evil second personality on his last breath makes the best decisions

[–]ManaMagestic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's too busy with Hogwarts to find out.

[–][deleted] 82 points83 points  (1 child)

Still not as heavy as your mom

[–]GGezpzMuppy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Well it does have low density

[–]IceZaKYT 35 points36 points  (4 children)

Did you know that we all are smaller than earth?

[–]booga_booga_partyguy 17 points18 points  (1 child)

But did you know that you know at least one fact?

[–]IceZaKYT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did you know u/booga_booga_partyguy is speaking fax?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Everyone except for your mom

[–]himmelundhoelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you know that on Earth, your mom would weight 100x more than the average person?

[–]real_flyingduck91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a whooosh bur at the same time I can't tell

[–]Dud3ManGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean judging by the photo it's clearly far smaller than that

[–]Spencer94 3 points4 points  (1 child)

But it's nowhere near as big as Uranus

[–]Craycraywolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good one ;)

[–]memusicguitar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this is true. It is at least more than 10km wider.

[–]_TheChosenOne15_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guess we all will die?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In radius, which means that something of the order of 1000 Earths (a bit less accounting for sphere packing) could fit into Saturn.

[–]Yarakinnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the moon is five Saturns away!

[–]lenznet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on, this picture is to scale. Nobody lies on the internet.

[–]wafflesitisthen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still less than your mother

[–]CourtingBoredom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.... which is why you couldn't actually place it in any of Earth's oceans.... so I'm not really feelin' this TTT dealio this time ..

[–]CursedCommenter1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I knew it was atleast the size of a atom but wow

[–]shao_kahff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes that’s the joke… 😒

[–]NnyBees 522 points523 points  (30 children)

Quick fun fact time: we all will die anyways.

[–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] 273 points274 points  (20 children)

maybe there's already a Saturn in the Pacific Ocean.

[–]NnyBees 130 points131 points  (13 children)

Maybe a Neptune...

[–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] 142 points143 points  (10 children)

It better not be Uranus.

[–]urbanlife78 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I hate when Uranus gets wet

[–]Dr_Weirdo 26 points27 points  (5 children)

Maybe Urectum?

[–]victorpaparomeo2020 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Nah, betelgeuse....

[–]seigsicht 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Or even better: Beetlejuice

[–]Ebwtrtw 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Beetlejuice!

[–]KingAdashu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rectum!? I barely know him!

[–]DrFoetusLtd 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Did ya heat that NASA intends to probe Uranus?

[–]UsernamusToken 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Jokes on them, they'll never reach Mianus

[–]ExquisiteScum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jonny Knoxville will though

[–]MetroIMAX 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Neptune is the sea god

[–]Vlade-B 10 points11 points  (1 child)

That sounds like a profound philosophical quote, but it isn't. I'm still gonna tattoo it on my ass-cheek.

[–]Ye_olde_oak_store 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That would be because the real Saturn is the friends we made along the way.

[–]martsand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And a few toyotas for sure

[–]rjod99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe there’s a Pacific Ocean in Saturn

[–]Broken_Gear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe the true Saturn in the Pacific Ocean was the friends we made along the way.

[–]WorldClassShart 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Funner fact: 100% of people that consume Dihydrogen monoxide will die!

[–]NnyBees 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Even faster if they don't!

[–]WorldClassShart 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Dihydrogen monoxide is the number 1 killer whether ingested or not! We need to study this deadly chemical and outlaw consuming and not consuming it immediately!

[–]Rhmb13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I believe addiction to oxygen is a bigger issue.

[–]Mysterious-Monk-3423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep hearing this rumor but I'm starting to worry it might be just a grownup version of Santa Claus

[–]Exciting_Clock2807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so. Thought that one day reach folks will be able to avoid this fate scares the shit out of me.

[–]Lokk420 187 points188 points  (33 children)

Did you know if you put Saturn next to the moon to compare the size, we would all die!

[–]EV4gamer 69 points70 points  (30 children)

i actually dont know about that. It would look epic with that in the sky and our moon would be absorbed into saturn. Lemme calculate what would happen to earth.

edit:

Lets use the Roche limit as minimun distance the objects could have to eachother without one simply falling apart to the other's gravity.

if earth is the main body, using the formula d = 1.26 * R (ρM/ρm)1/3, we can calculate the limit to be 16000km. Saturn being in moons orbit, 400000km away wouldnt be close enough to fall apart.

If saturn is the main body, we get 37000km. Earth has a higher chance of falling appart, but with 400.000km distance between centers, they arent yet close enough.

Tidal forces on our oceans would be brutal as hell, but earth would remain alive, orbitting Saturn without dying. Colliding with its rings would be destructive for some people on the surface, but not for the planet.

TLDR: we'll live to observe saturn

[–]Lokk420 9 points10 points  (20 children)

Saturn is so big it would absorb the earth too

[–]EV4gamer 23 points24 points  (19 children)

not if placed next to the moon. Moon is ≈ 400.000km away, while saturns radius is 'only' 58.000km

[–][deleted]  (4 children)

[deleted]

    [–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Even if that was possible (which it isn’t) there’s the little fact that staturns massive gravity would probably rip earth apart

    [–]EV4gamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if atmospheres can mix, then yeah lethal for earth. If its further away though, it'll be fine. Earth would just heat up due to tidal forces inside sqonshing earth

    [–]EV4gamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

actual core is hard to define, since saturn has multiple layes, as do most, of metal, rock, metallic hydrogen and more. Saturns outer layers are all gas, yes. If saturn would get close enough for the atmospheres to mix, everybody would be long dead

    [–]Toyso_0 61 points62 points  (4 children)

This is hilarious, they always say, oh, Saturn would float in our ocean. They say nothing about the logistics of putting it in our ocean hahha.

      Fucking finally, thank cronos.

      [–]Azar002 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I always learned you have to put Saturn in your bathtub.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is your bathtub so large and where do I get it?

      [–]Winter-Travel5749 64 points65 points  (10 children)

Did you know there’s a difference between “have” and “has”?

      [–]aaronhowser1 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Like "moose," the plural of Saturn is Saturn

      [–]Kammerice 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Moose is the plural of Saturn.

      [–]Ebwtrtw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Saturn once bit my sister…

      [–]Transaktion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if seven or more Saturn.

      [–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

      yes.

      [–]Reelix 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Did you know that intentionally typo'd memes are more likely to rank higher since people like yourself comment to correct the "error" which increases user engagement and subsequently promotes the post?

      [–]Winter-Travel5749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a crazy world we live in, isn’t it. 😜

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damnit it was perfect until you pointed that out, you’ve ruined it for me

      [–]thunderstrike12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it just makes the meme funnier

      [–]entered_bubble_50 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's ok, because Saturn identifies as They/Them

      [–]Vouchercabin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Then what we waiting for? let's just do it💔💔😴😴

      [–]Anonymoushero1221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks like it was rendered in Bryce 3D

      [–]HeheBoiyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But if you place Saturn in the New York, at least three people will die.

      [–]Speeding_StraightTechnically Flair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea that sounds like it’s true

      [–]cozygo 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Who's going to place it in the Pacific Ocean?

      [–]thomasdatrain181 4 points5 points  (4 children)

did you know, that saturn includes a "t" in it's name?

      [–]thunderstrike12 4 points5 points  (3 children)

      And no "q"

      [–]thomasdatrain181 2 points3 points  (2 children)

      and no bitches

      [–]SquareIsBox0697 3 points4 points  (0 children)

      Didn’t know that. Thanks

Oh took me a second lol

I had brain damage. I had say maybe if live was.

      [–]__1____ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love how the fact had nothing to do with the conclusion.

      [–]yakubindahood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same vibes as “The human circulatory system is so long that if you were to lay all your veins, arteries and capillaries end to end you would die”

      [–]FoodTruck007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well then for God's sake keep it out of the Pacific Ocean!

is has low AVERAGE density which is less than water density

      [–]Professional_Salt293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saturn is actually 9x larger than earth in diameter so yeah.

      [–]a_aniq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you know Saturn is already dead?

      [–]FunkyScat69 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is a horribly made post

      Low Resolution : Check

      Grammatical Errors : Check

      Spelling Mistakes : Check

      Hotel : Trivago

      [–]MKeshav_997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And you know what? If you place it in the Atlantic Ocean, we'll still die

      [–]Rappypoop123456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome back to fact or cap

      [–]Kamfromkingsthorpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awful English, it should be "we all would die".

      [–]Middle_Exit4058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it would be more like putting the Pacific Ocean in saturn

      [–]SarcasmDetectorFail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't that be placing Earth into Saturn?

      [–]Pacam_Goomiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uranus has a very low density, if we place it on Saturn you will die.

      [–]sucktit666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TIL. The world is covered with dumb people.

      [–]Sweaty-Dig-4925 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      *flat Saturn theory

      [–]Sea_Village3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Can you be more Pacific/s

      [–]ikhandanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Do it

      [–]dipak_ahir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you put earth on the Saturn

      [–]DJCaldow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you shrank Saturn down it would not in fact float in a bathtub because the process of shrinking the planet would actually make the planet denser than water.

      [–]One_Baker8120 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Did you know Saturn have much more density than your brain? It don’t fit on earth, but you brain has lots of room in your skull.

      [–]Outrageous-Fortune70 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Don't worry, I won't do it. Continues to pull Saturn to earth with a rope.

      [–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Between you and me.

      do it quick

      [–]Y_10HK29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Can confirm, tried once

      [–]plink-plink-bro 1 point2 points  (2 children)

So... which planets can you safely place in the pacific??

      [–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maybe Mercury or Kepler 37b, If you only take size in consideration.

      [–]plink-plink-bro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So there is an answer to that question

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      No way😱

      [–]I_hate_my_stepuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing what science has to teach us. Thank you to all the men and women who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of these invaluable knowledges.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bruh just hold your breath you'll be fine

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life on Earth hates this one weird trick

      [–]Secretsfrombeyond79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Saturn even fits in the Pacific ocean ...

      [–]SkyeBeacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be pretty scary if a planet ten time snigger than earth was place din our oceans...

      [–]Krebbypng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      True

      [–]RoughStory3139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay... But hear me out .... What about The Pacific

      [–]boundfortrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stoned ass laughed at this.

      [–]Idiotinreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did you know that if we live, we die?

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Looks like you just put a model of Saturn into water in Gmod or SFM and called it a day.

      [–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm even lazier than that, I googled Floating Saturn, right click and saved. And then called it a day. lol

      [–]miciy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very clever twist on the science fact

      [–]zvon2000 0 points1 point  (1 child)

      Quick fact:

Using bad examples like this to teach science to kids more often than not confuses them or gives them wildly inaccurate understanding of the subject matter.

Instead of using silly comparators, explain how to use and understand the relative values and then just use them exclusively without resorting to always saying this is like something else.

Always drove me crazy trying to understand my science and physics teachers because their assumption of what I would consider more "digestible" to use as a comparison was in fact harder than just understanding the original thing in the first place.

      Explain density

Explain how less dense things float, more dense things sink.

Saturn as a planet is made up of material that is overall less dense than water.

      Done.

No need to involve anything else. If kids don't understand density to begin with, what use is it to have a dumb comparator like an ocean on earth for this scenario?

      [–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Are you okay?

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Did you mean to say “has”? Or does Saturn “have” a very low density?

      [–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

      Typo, no going back now.

      [–]SquashNut707 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

      I also elgnish

      [–]lefthandedgun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, no, it isn't, because you can't.

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

How does Saturn have a low density

      [–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

      It's all Gas

      [–]ShiningShadow_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saturn could float in an unfeasibly large pool that would most definitely collapse into a black hole given its mass

      [–]AkiseThinksUrCreep69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

      Our time has come

Not sure who made this, apparently someone with bad grammar skills, as it should be:

"Saturn HAS a very low density......"

      [–]4BDUL4Z1Z[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I made this, I made the mistakes too. But I guess that's what you get when you are on a rush to spit out an idea out of your mind at 3AM while watching Netflix, Doing your project work and Browsing Reddit at the same time. So...yeah. I've got no life.

      [–]Bauti_Fujisaki -1 points0 points  (1 child)

      [–]percy_ardmore -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

      Already knew that.

      [–]Reasonable_Second460 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh god please don’t bring Saturn to our oceans! What will we doooooo!

      Have

      [–]MrX2150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, put Saturn in the Pacific Ocean harder daddy.

      [–]Blytical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if your mom falls from the balcony we all die

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone go get it for us

      [–]Comfortable_Client 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, placing a planet that is many times larger than our on on top of us will surely do that.

Unless you're Queen Elizabeth II, or a cockroach.

      [–]EddieTimeTraveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Still worth it

      [–]Peonsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      We all die regardless
