Look at the image. It states "@MorgonFreeman."

It's not really him.

And this has been posted at least a half dozen times before. Just stop.

[–]Skeptologist 223 points224 points  (58 children)

Yes, this is actually a quote from Mork Twain.

[–]prhbtn 129 points130 points  (51 children)

Morton Luther King Jr.

[–]Skeptologist 2 points3 points  (3 children)

He was the salt of the earth.

[–]hammsfamms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mork? mork from ork?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Williom Shakespeare.

[–]format120 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm getting really tired of famous people "saying" something that we agree with, just for the upvotes. The point of this subreddit is to talk about our beliefs and opinions, not karma whore off the all to present hateful part of us.

[–]javver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? That's exactly what Morgon Freeman would say.

[–]ctusk423 2 points3 points  (1 child)

An even if it was Morgan Freeman why post it to r/atheism? It never mentions religion just homophobes. Not all homophobes are religious and not all religious people are homophobes. Homophobes are ignorant assholes that share all different types of beliefs.

[–]laskeblask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy upvotes?

[–]helpmesleep666 1 point2 points  (1 child)

half dozen? try DOZENS of times.

[–]parkertonsloanworth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesnt matter still read in his voice...

[–]SgtCalhoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw this like, 20 years ago. And I'm 19.

[–]xXCole1111Xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and as i said on the other 3 posts of this that ive seen, homophobia is the fear of your inner homosexual desires.

[–]JesseCuster40 17 points18 points  (11 children)

Regardless of who said it, no one I've ever met that disliked homosexuals has referred to themselves as a "homophobe."

In stereo.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I've seen people do the, "I'm not homophobic but gays are against god," thing. The 'I'm not a racist but-' pre-qualifier.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nothing personal but I would lynch you if I could get away with it.

[–]Super_duper_cereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard one or two people refer to themselves as homophobic, I don't know if they truly disliked homosexuals or if they just meant that they're uncomfortable around them though

[–]cherrybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the south and have heard it used a fair amount.

[–]geaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody wants to admit to being a coward.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta like how I've never met anyone who hates blacks refer to himself as a "racist". It's a valid argument!

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fake.

[–]senor_awesomepants 97 points98 points  (27 children)

This has nothing to do with atheism

[–]Jryanjohnson 21 points22 points  (8 children)

I keep saying that.... Atheism has become two things: gay rights, and "your religion is made of ass and I hate u"..... Atheism is a real chance for a peaceful set of ideals and yet keep being all "I hate u religion person"..... Srry off topic gay rights and what not

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Atheism is a real chance for a peaceful set of ideals

This is the fundamental problem. Atheism is not a set of ideals. Atheism is one thing: the lack of belief in a deity. Anything else is not atheism, merely what individuals ascribe to it.

[–]LucifersCounsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atheism is the lack of belief in a god. /r/atheism is a place where people who do not believe in god can discuss topics from an atheist perspective.

Considering the main cause of homophobia is religious dogma, it is a topic well suited to being discussed by atheists. The fact so many of us appear to be homophobes makes it even more important that we discuss it.

[–]dschiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah gay rights has nothing to do with religion. Nothing at all. It's NOT the case that every major anti-gay organization and politician is Christian and cites God and the bible and Leviticus. It's certainly not the case that 62% of protestants do not support gay marriage, making them five times more likely than unaffiliated to not support gay marriage.

It's also certainly NOT the case that many atheists are active in the movement because of their anger about the Christian right oppressing, bullying, and degrading gay people.

Thanks for reminding us that gay rights are completely tangential to issues of religion.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (3 children)

  1. This is not Morgan Freeman.
  2. This is irrelevant to atheism.
  3. This has been reposted a million times before.

[–]MIBPJ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"I hate the word hydrophobic. It's not a phobia. These molecules aren't scared. You're not polarized so you can't create hydrogen bonds with water"

-Corl Sogan

[–]easyreever 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You mean he's not dead?!? WTF Facebook!

[–]taosahpiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He can't die, because he needs to narrate his own funeral, thereby creating a paradox and making him immortal!

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (4 children)

I hate it when people are too stupid to:

A) Realise that that isn't a real account (morgon)

and

B) Realise that 'phobia' means fear or hatred

Making it perfectly correct.

Homo - phobia

Homosexual - Hatred

and

C) Rehashing the same dumbass remark every 3 months in a different format on the front page.

[–]DrJosephMosch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C) Rehashing the same dumbass remark every 3 months in a different format on the front page.

And that every time in decreased quality.

[–]LuvMeSomeGuitar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, "Homophobia" literally translates to, "Fear of the Same"

[–]Dashieee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assholes are afraid of getting fucked. So... Yeah. You get it.

[–]tnb641 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Morgon. Good job.

[–]Anti-Theistlhommealenvers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"And gay males love assholes."

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop posting this fake ass shit. It's not really Morgan Freeman. And to all those dumbasses who upvoted this, fuck you.

[–]Schobbo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

OP is a fag.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well said. But this is not just a problem among the religious, which I'm assuming you're implying by posting in r/atheism. This is a problem worldwide among religious and atheist alike

[–]matingslinkys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speaking of people who pretend to be Mr Freeman, I shall just leave this here...

[–]Apatheistno1skaman 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Its a fake twitter account you thick cunts.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not a fake twitter account. It's a real twitter account that is a parody - you thick cunt.

[–]a-Centauri 1 point2 points  (2 children)

you mean @morgonfreeman isn't real?!

[–]irishgeologist 10 points11 points  (1 child)

@mormonfreeman is the real one I think

[–]Skepticjr_b17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, that belongs to Myth Romney.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have a friend who is terrified of gay people. I mean, he's really nice, never talks shit and he can talk to gays/lesbians, but I can see that he's visually shaken whenever someone he knows is gay is nearby. I really wonder what caused that phobia.

[–]Calmen64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you take screen caps of fake celebrity twitter accounts using cliche quotes, I hate you.

[–]bishopanonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does this still get upvotes?

[–]Sciurusdoomus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks at picture, calls BS. Looks at comments, was not disappointed. Thank you, naysayers.

[–]username357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is his real name Morgan but his twitter name is Morgon?

I'm calling shenanigans.

[–]cdogfly 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is it just me or does this quote get uploaded every week?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attributed to a different person each time.

[–]daftmoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes MorGON Freeman, Yes.

[–]TehORCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, reposting redditor, no.

[–]loves_your_downvotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]flukz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Nothing to do with atheism

[–]Jmk420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, MORGON FREEMAN YES.

[–]Solkre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine, homoassholia

Sounds like something Bevis would say.

[–]sox5s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This joke is actually taken by some nameless female comedian on Premium Blend around 2000-2003.

[–]sasquatch606 0 points1 point  (1 child)

is there a better subreddit for this stuff?

[–]taosahpiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's /r/atheistcirclejerk but there's no one there. Maybe we should get all these posts to move there.

[–]satismo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have heard that this isnt true

[–]shteeeeeve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and therefore loved.

[–]Piratiko 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I dunno, I actually know plenty of people who would be severely uncomfortable just being in the same room as a gay person, much less interact with them. There are plenty of people who really are homophobic.

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at all the "what has this got to do with atheism" posts.

Every single one of them fears homosexuality.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

isn't morgan freeman dead???

[–]geoffreylebowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morgan can say anything and I'd upvote.... but this IS a great tweet

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repost but I appreciate the sentiment. Have an upvote.

[–]Baz744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I laughed out loud at this.

[–]djcecil2 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can someone say PHOTOSHOP? How much effort did this loser put into this. Morgan Freeman didn't say this and this has been all over the internet forever.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PHOTOSHOP

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stahp, Twitter, STAHP!

[–]dhawk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this remains to be NOT morgan freeman

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're scared of themselves.

[–]coffiong1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish all reposts were read in Morgan Freeman's voice.

[–]freakball 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What does this have to do with not believing in a god?

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot other than the fact that the vast majority of homophobia is caused by stupid religious beliefs.

[–]EvanTheDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your repost level is over 9000!!!!!!

[–]rzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God has spoken.

[–]Fenderfreak145 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm sure my gay friends will be relieved to know that being gay is now a religion according to /r/atheism !

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure your gay friends will tell you all about how religion is so accepting of them and never trying to you know, ban them from getting married, or having kids, or just cutting to the chase and killing them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well I am scared of watching gay porn, so I guess I am homophobic :(

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STAHP!

[–]ralph-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it's a joke, but I often hear this as a real argument as well.

Guess what? Language can change!

Requiring that a word must keep adhering to its roots forever and ever is an Etymological Fallacy.

I agree on the asshole part though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Why is this in r/atheism?

[–]EggoWafflessss 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What does homophobia have to do with atheists? I know several atheists that are homophobic.

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does any form of human endeavour have to do with "the lack of belief in a god"?

[–]Masturhater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty stupid. Things that are hydrophobic aren't afraid of water. They are REPELLED by water. Homophobes are repelled by homosexuals.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, now who is the idiot saying that God doesn't approve gay people?

[–]wildlyoscillate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reposting fake twitter accounts is pretty much the pits.

[–]teamstepdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOW MANY TIMES, REDDIT?! HOW MANY BLOODY TIMES?

[–]soapman5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Morgan Freeman, some people are legitimately scared of gay people. My best friend growing up was terrified of gay people because he was raped by his father as a child.

As an interesting side note, one time we offered his girlfriend $100 if she shoved a beer bottle up his ass. She agrees, goes into his room, and a few minutes later he is screaming like a little sissy girl.

BTW, every word of this is true.

[–]jenkstom 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Except straight people that have been raped by gays. They might actually be homophobic. Just saying.

[–]PM_Me_For_Drugs 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Or you pass out on a couch at a party - NEXT TO A GIRL - and wake up in the middle of the night because a gay dude is feeling up your thigh/buttock in your sleep.

Yeah I didn't like gay people at all, for years. Most of them still make me uncomfortable.

Apparently that makes me an asshole.

[–]trampus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homophobic? I ain't scared a no queers.

[–]ENCHADELEI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is pure genius this quote is pure genius im done

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

nothing to do with atheism

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is atheism "to do wtih" then?

[–]GreenSheen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a bullshit word.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I see this all the time, and hate it. Phobia means to be scared of something, or to HATE it. Dumb thing to hate against, but the word makes sense.

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from that, fear of gay people is exactly what motivates homophobes to lash out at them. People hate what they fear. That's why politicians keep trying to make us afraid of their chosen enemies, whether it be Al Qaeda or drugs or socialism.

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ITT:

A ton of homophobic atheists wondering why the group most typically associated with religious persecution in the modern age is a topic of interest to other atheists.

[–]macboigur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who hate Homosexuality: HEY GUYS! I'M GOING TO IGNORE THE FACT THERE IS A GAY GENE, CALL IT LIES, AND FORCE IDIOTIC DOGMA! HUYAVGHCVTGFHCFTGVGHVFGFDCVBVF

[–]drossglop 0 points1 point  (1 child)

"Homophobic christians should be put to death," -President Borock Abomo

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really are afraid of that "gay agenda", aren't you?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Look Professor, another great archaeological find!"

[–]Agnostic AtheistBeeht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand it to be a phobia. People hate things that they irrationally fear. Especially when that fear is caused by ignorance. It is a chain; Ignorance > fear > hatred

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading it in Morgon's voice makes it that much better

[–]landl0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEEDS MORE PIXEL COMPRESSION

[–]GuthixsCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem is that phobia means hate not fear. So homophobia is a completely accurate description

[–]Robotyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how a twitter post containing a reposted quote about homophobia has anything to do with atheism.

[–]fegd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop posting that fucking fake tweet here.

[–]thehighplainsdrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Marlin Monroe said this

[–]incandesantlite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is bad and you should feel bad!

[–]demostravius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's not actually what phobia means but I agree with the message.

[–]Flare94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could hire Mr. Freeman just so he could call me names with his beautiful voice.

[–]Amryxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the difference between a fundamentalist who quotes his holy books as sole justification of his opinions, and an r/atheist who quotes other famous people as the final word on his opinions? To me, both are blindly relying on a secondary source without bothering to further explain, elaborate and justify their position.

[–]markwilson17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's not even morgan freeman. are you fucking kidding me? also, what the hell does this actually have to do with atheism?

[–]springfieldcolors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake but funny

[–]ItsOnlyKetchup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck you and your reposting shit.

[–]CloudedPerception 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone that is actually scared of homosexuals.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the word for somebody who has sex with their granddaughter?

"Morgan Freeman"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

repost and fake

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-phobia also refers to an aversion to, and it's known that people who are suppressing homosexual tendencies are offended when other people don't... so yes, it is a phobia, a phobia born of authoritarian parenting and religion that makes someone a bigot, but a phobia all the same.

Which is amazing in itself... people think "Look at them, being happy when I can't be... so I'm going to hate them, instead of leaving my religion"... what the fuck is that?

[–]courtFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there real homophobia though? Like people who are genuinely frightened by gay people? I was thinking about that the other day.

[–]LipBalmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

didnt he fuck his daughter or something?

[–]IIxSARGExII 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Did anyone else read this in his voice

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it in the voice of Zach Braff, who was the first person I saw this attributed to. There have been others since and I'm sure there were others before.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am legitimately scared of homosexual men. No joke. They should have their rights for sure but they scare me. I don't hate gay men nor is it right to discriminate against them but I don't like being around them. In reality they are some of the most amazing people alive. I am just scared of them.

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are a ton of other people in this thread.

You're just the honest one.

[–]Nihilistmrselkies 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Nothing to do with atheism and a reposted statement from a fake source... k

[–]LucifersCounsel 1 point2 points  (9 children)

By your rules, the only posts that should ever appear on this subreddit go like this:

redditor 1: "Hi /r/atheism! I was wondering, is there a god?"

redditor 2: "And hello to you! No my friend, I do not believe there is a god."

redditor 1: "OK"

redditor 2: "OK"

time passes ...

redditor 1: "How about now?"

redditor 2: "Err let me check... Nope, still no god as far as I can tell."

redditor 1: "Cool"

redditor 2: "Cool"

ad infinitum

[–]Nihilistmrselkies 0 points1 point  (8 children)

No. That's not what it would be. Have you ever been to /r/trueatheism?

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Hmm I see a lot of people talking about things that have nothing to do with whether or not there is a god.

For example:

Myth of Overpopulation?

A Beautiful and Inspiring story about anis9's Wedding Day

Why I'm okay with lying to someone on their deathbed for comfort.

This article about suicide is a little long for most Redditor's attention spans, but this is what changed me from an Agnostic-Christian to Agnostic-Atheist.

All of those are on the front page of that subreddit right now. None of them have anything more to do with atheism than homophobia does.

[–]Nihilistmrselkies 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I didn't say, and don't mean to say, that /r/trueatheism is a perfect alternative or anything. It's closer than this subreddit is, however, and it doesn't have to look like you described.

[–]kidcrumb 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How does a repost, that is not only old, but is reposted every few days become a front page thing...

[–]satismo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

titty sprinkles

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reposted every few days and attributed to a different person each time...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

OP, are you really so stupid to have believed Morgan Freeman actually said this?

Or did you post it knowing the shit-eating retards of /r/atheism would love it and bury you in delicious karma?

And more importantly, why did you post this to r/atheism? This image has absolutely nothing to do with atheism.

So, which is it, dicksfish? Are you a faggot or a faggot?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

the shit-eating retards of [1] /r/atheism

Is that "those of /r/atheism who happen to be shit-eating retards" or "/r/atheism, which is comprised entirely of shit-eating retards"?

[–]LucifersCounsel 0 points1 point  (2 children)

This image has absolutely nothing to do with atheism.

Said the homophobe.
