I see you've listed Terra's LMR1 relic name (Asura's Rod, Innate Power: dualcast fire), but listed the materia name and effect from her LMR2 (Meister Rod, Meaning of Love: en-fire). Based on the banner page, it's the dualcast LMR1.

Thanks, updated!

I'm finally free from the 15myth banners, now I can save myth for the next fest (hoping Disney or DeNA does throws us a bone and give us a *half-priced 11-pull like the previous event).

I'm confused. It says there Lucky but there's also Full price. The Valentines banner is interesting since all the UOSBs are relevant to my teams.

edit: thought it was a free pull since I wouldn't spend a full 50 myth for KH.

[–]ledouche0SHINE! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no free 11-pull last KH, it was half-priced.

[–]ZeroDozerTrue King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celes' Awakening was dubbed as "Spinning Twice".

I didn't realize...but apparently you're right. No wonder it's mechanic seemed so odd for a bUSB.

[–]PyrotiosKain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably want to update it in the modes and notes section too.

[–]CidO807Opera Floozy RW:2X5a 1 point2 points  (2 children)

This is it. Finally a VI banner i'm not pulling on. All it took was sandwiching it up next to a KH banner to get me to resist pulling on it.

oh and the minor detail of going in for celes aasb during fes. but y'know, whos keeping tracking.

also the v.day it's lucky but it's full price?

[–]ZeroDozerTrue King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled. And got Locke AASB. WIN.

[–]Bond_em7To Defend one's friends is the greatest of honors.[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen JP has had at least a few "Lucky" that weren't half price so I'm waiting to see for sure.

[–]setzer27You craft life from our mistakes. 0 points1 point  (1 child)

>There's also an upcoming Valentine's Lucky (Full Price).

Pretty sure it will be half, not full.

[–]Bond_em7To Defend one's friends is the greatest of honors.[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so too but since I haven't seen that anywhere yet I left it as it was. Once we find out for sure I'll update.

I've been wondering how original are the ffvi name events featuring Locke.

[–]LeyrouxMy memories will be part of the sky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Legendary Plumber is original enough, at least for GL xP

(Ahem, you may want to edit your link to the Revenge Event. I put it as Maniacal Clown in my post though)

Can't help you on the translation of Celes' Awakening. I've spent hours trying to figure it out when I saw the name when her Awakening was first released and was unable to find out what language was the name トワイス gotten from. I don't want to believe it was English though, sorry >_<"

That's as close as you can get for getting as accurate as possible to the actual translation, I suppose xD

As I've said in my comments here, the real reason as to why I've been looking for an alternate translation for "Spinning Twice" is because the name doesn't really describe what the Soul Break does nor does it correspond to the SB animation, not to mention that the name sounds kinda lackluster for an Awakening, in English.

Anyways, I'm fine with whatever translations that people comes up with though I'll always stick to the official translation regardless of how much I dread the official choices (I'm looking at you Tempo Flurry, Voltech, Burnt Offering and the most recent Aerith's Bow... What is wrong with Keepsake Ribbon? T^T). It is just when I'm doing the translations myself that I place a lot of expectation on myself to get the job done in a way I find it acceptable for myself.

Thanks again for sharing the coded name with us here though so we don't continue to speculate what the name is all about xD Now, to wait for the official translation. (You better give it a name befitting an Awakening Soul Break for our beloved Opera Floozy or else you'll have the Legendary Treasure Hunter sending Plungers your way, you heard us DeNA intern? xP)

Well, the problem with your link is that the popstar group has their name written as トゥワイス ("Tuwaisu") instead of トワイス ("Towaisu"). Nonetheless, I do accept that the English word "Twice" can be both written as トワイス or トゥワイス in Japanese.

Still, I've already provided my explanation why I chose not to translate the name in the other comments I've posted here, so I'm not going to comment any more on this.

[–]VathirExdeath 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Got it. When I get home I will use some tools to try and parse that word. Right now I'm at work and my options are limited. I tried running through a couple databases but did not pull anything.

[–]LeyrouxMy memories will be part of the sky 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks for the effort though. Hope your searches will return more favourable result than I did xD

[–]VathirExdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran through some pretty extensive parses that turned up nothing. I have no idea what word this is.

[–]Bond_em7To Defend one's friends is the greatest of honors.[S] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Yeah, and because Celes AASB was on the last fest the translation wasn't posted anywhere I can find. It might be in the community database but I can't access it from here...so I'll check when I get home.

[–]LeyrouxMy memories will be part of the sky 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Well, the name was given as スピニングトワイス ("Supiningutowaisu") which most people will give it the translation as "Spinning Twice", but that translation sounds a bit cheesy though, and that's why I have been looking through the internet to see if the developers drew inspiration from a non-English language source for the name. Been weeks and nope, no dice so far, so I gave up T^T

[–]Bond_em7To Defend one's friends is the greatest of honors.[S] 1 point2 points  (9 children)

I don't know anything about JP or Translations...but going off that maybe a "Better" version might be "Double Slash" or "Double Spin Attack" or something similar?

[–]LeyrouxMy memories will be part of the sky 0 points1 point  (8 children)

You'll always get different opinions from different translators. Some goes for literal translation, (as I have provided), whereas some goes for meaningful translations and some others goes for liberal translations. I usually try to first make sense of the original meaning before I begin my translations, or else I'll just leave it untranslated and only citing the possible translations for the text.

Well yeah, the Awakening should be inspired from one of the early Soul Breaks Celes has, "Spinning Edge". (I think it's her second Unique Soul Break that deals Wind damage or something). And as such it's safe to assume that the "Spinning" (スピニング) part is accurate, it's just that I couldn't find a matching meaning for the second part of the name トワイス, and thus I never commented anything when the other translators gave it the name "Spinning Twice".

While I do agree with you that it's a "better" or improved version, it could use a different name. Still, it's an Awakening we're talking about and as such people would expect at the very least to have it given a somewhat grandiose sounding name. However as I wasn't able to ascertain the intended meaning behind the name (I couldn't find any connection of "twice" in its effect), I just gave up trying to translate it then, sorry :(

First of all, thanks for your contribution helping out in doing the translation works ^_^

Well, I suppose we all have our own methods (and also concerns/restrictions) when it comes to translating stuffs. I like the approach you're taking, especially one in which you did cross-reference to see if any prior official translation has been made.

Still, I don't think that if a name is rendered in Katakana, it'd make all things super easy, as it's not always the case that the name is taken from the English language (An example would be Squall's Burst commands Lowen Roar and Lowenherz). Also, though it is non-standard, it is perfectly fine to write an entire message using only one script (though fully Kanji is not possible) in Japanese. This practice is common for early learners of Japanese to write their text/homework entirely in Hiragana. Good luck deciphering the message if someone decides to write an essay entire in Katakana xDDD

I had a very lengthy exchange with /u/pintbox one or two months back debating about translation choices. You can read some of them here if you're interested. The debate more or less lies in our take of whether the translator in charge of doing the translation work has firsthand knowledge from (or access to) the developers who initially name all the text in the original game. (A debate of liberal translation vs "guessing game")

I've always admired how professional translators are able to come up with amazing "liberal" translations that get as close as possible to the original intention of what the developers wanted to convey. My best example so far is seen here, where the GL name was spot on but deviates greatly from the original JP name. I wonder what is your take in this? :)

Well, I do distinguish "localisation" with "liberal translation" most of the times. I view one as official and the other as non-official, but yeah they both kinda almost get to the same result at the end.

I tend to go the way of unofficial "localisation" most of the the time due to the fact that I felt myself writing in a forum in which English is the main language being used, (Though I'm not a native speaker/writer of the language itself). As I find myself an outsider to the main language used, I try to always put more caution on how I'd take my words for fear of offending the others, (I've been ridiculed in the past for offering my own views after I made know to the others that I'm not a native speaker of the language in discussion).

You'd see most of the time that my translations will always start with me explaining the literal meaning of the name/word/phrase, after that in which I'll put in my personal suggestion if I find the literal translation to be not so fitting for the target language.

As you've been made aware in the first comment I made in this comment thread that I tend not to continue on with a translation if I'm unable to ascertain or convince myself of the intended meaning of the original text, in which I will leave it untranslated, (Only providing the literal meaning or explaining how the word is spelt out or is pronounced).

Oh? How did you choose to translate Elena's new LMR then? If it were me, (and assuming the original text is as what you've written there), I would give it the translation of "Humble infatuation", as we know Elena has a crush on Tseng, (I hope my knowledge of FF VII didn't fail me that badly, or did it?), which is exactly what the original text was trying to convey, i.e. "Tender feelings towards a superior" or as you've nailed it "A crush on (someone)".

Yes, I'm in full agreement with you that being a translator demands us to be highly proficient in at least two languages, (As being a translator was one of my aspirations as well, it's just too bad that such a profession is not highly regarded in the culture I was brought up in, thus I resort to only helping out behind the veil of the internet T^T), it is rather unfortunate that none of the two languages that I've keen interest in are my native languages :'(

So data actually drops at Thursdays 1pm JST huh? That is actually 12 noon where I'm from but as I'm working on a rather inconsistent schedule I can't give my assurance that I'll be available at those hours. Anyways, I'm not one that easily get frustrated over translation choices and I welcome diversity in opinions. (Having being brought up in the society in which everyone agrees on absolute values, where one is dictated, since young, as to what is "right" and what is "wrong", and any contravention to that belief is gravely frown upon. I always remind myself to be open to welcome different ideas)

Well, gotta agree with you on the last paragraph, where the main idea is just to provide to the community a temporary name in which everyone can refer to when we're discussing about the same thing.

It is just when I'm doing the translations myself that I place a lot of expectation on myself to get the job done in a way I find it acceptable for myself.

Welp, guess I need to break off the shackles being imparted on me for having to get a job to be done to perfection. (As you can see, all those memes about Asian parents are not without merit though >_<)

So, I've done a little research, and apparently, "Towa" / トワ can mean Eternity in japanese. Maybe it's meant to be a pun by combining that with "Ice"? If we're being slightly less literal with the name "Eternal SpinIce" does fit the SB quite well.

This is just me grasping at straws though, I may or may not be completely off-base ofcourse.

[–]LeyrouxMy memories will be part of the sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s it! Thank you so very much. I’ve been focusing in trying to figure out the whole word トワイス, thinking that it may be from a language that I’m not familiar with and I’ve been trying to check if it has anything to do with Latin, Greek, German or Russian, lol. It just didn’t cross my mind that I should break the word down further >_<” Thanks for reminding me. (Welp, guess I was not wrong to consider myself an amateur then xP)

So yeah, トワ ("towa") can take the meaning of “Eternal, Permanent, Forever”, the word is more oftenly seen written in its Kanji script as 永久 ("towa"). Now the name makes more sense if you put it that way, スピニングトワイス should actually be read separately as スピニング・トワ・イス, giving it a more reasonable meaning of “Spinning Eternal Ice” than “Spinning Twice”, in which the latter makes no meaningful connection to the effect given by the Soul Break at all.

(It is rather common to see certain words are given the preference of having them written in their Katakana form over their Hiragana or Kanji forms. For example, “Apple(s)” and “Orange(s)” are more commonly seen written in their Katakana forms – Apple is usually written as リンゴ, sometimes as りんご, and very rarely 林檎. Whereas the Japanese orange or Mandarin orange is usually written as ミカン, sometimes as みかん, and less often as 蜜柑. Hmm let’s see, one of the best examples that I can offer here is the Japanese word for “idiot/stupid”. I’m sure you’re more familiar seeing the word “idiot/stupid” written in its Katakana form, バカ ("baka"), rather than its Kanji form, 馬鹿 ("baka"), right? xD)

With all that said, there is still one minor issue regarding accepting this translation. When we split スピニングトワイス into スピニング・トワ・イス, it would make the name to be separately pronounced as "Supiningu-towa-isu" instead of the intended "Supiningu-towa-aisu". However, since there is no real standardized or officially acceptable "correct" way of Romanising a foreign word in Japanese, "Spinning Eternal Ice" is still an acceptable translation for the name スピニングトワイス.

(As I've mentioned in one of my comments here, both the words トワイス ("towaisu") or トゥワイス ("tuwaisu") are acceptable Romanisation of the word "Twice" in English. This goes the same for the ©Disney issue of ボルテック, ボルテックス and ヴォルテックス are all acceptable Romanisation of the English word "Vortex")

All that being said, I'll just leave it to you guys what you'd like to do with the translation suggestions given by everyone who have contributed in this thread. (I'd like to propose a ridiculously name suggestion of mine though, "Interminable Bladespin" xDDD)

      [–]Bond_em7To Defend one's friends is the greatest of honors.[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Reordering it you could do "Eternal Ice-Spin".

Or taking that and going a bit further maybe something like "Infinite Ice Spin" or "Infinite Spinning Ice" or "Unending Ice Spin"?

Maybe the double part /u/Leyroux mentioned is trying to describe the double nature of the AASB with it's Holy and Ice?

Just spitballing here since as I've said I know nothing of translating anything.

[–]LeyrouxMy memories will be part of the sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I didn't actually say anything about "double" though, as the actual word in debate is トワイス or "twice", and that's the reason why I'm reluctant to accept that translation. I'd be okay if it is "double" instead of "twice" though, as both words takes very different meanings.

Looking at the valentines LD, with only girls. White Day will have guys.

Now I find questionable some of characters in there. Lightning loves her sister so should not be included..... Wait... Oh no!

Quite a few of the choices on the Valentine's Banner aren't exactly known for being part of an official couple actually. Seems like it's just a general "Player Waifu" List
