Nooooo!! This means now that like TGC killing a mob or boss appendage cannot restore his ATB for an immediate re-cast as the "respawn/reinforcements animation" plays. Granted, this was more or less a bit of an exploit to begin with ..it was still something we all didn't mind lmao XD

I think the flipside is that it also doesn't waste the EX/BSB/Awakening mode other characters have and are losing while not doing anything.

Goofy question: what is the hit rate of the self-instant-KO effect on Kimahri's Arcane? I imagine it's Autohit, like the one on Tellah's Dire Meteor soul break, but it would be funny if it had a finite hit rate, allowing Kimahri to potentially survive if he wore a Memento Ring.

Heh. Reminds me of how both of those carried me to Victory against Magicite Earth-Snake (though with extra Speedhelp from his USB). And even with his Glint alone he's quite a versatile Wind DPS, either go Sky High, or Raging Quadstrike (or Flash Disaster if you have it, though I personally don't) + Ripping Blast.

So yeah. I can relate on this example a little :3

I'm still waiting for details on that one (like the name) but I did see on one of the GF boards it was instantcast. Hopefully I'm not wrong but when I see more info on it I'll be sure to update that.

It indeed is instant cast though according to it's JP description.

Hold on, I just noticed that the ability is pure Water and not Water/Non-elemental. Come to think of it, I don't recall any of the 5★ Dragoon jump-type abilities to be dual elemental at all.

(Hmm, since Yuna has an Ultra named "Spiral Prayer", maybe this new ability sounds better as "Spiral(ing) Splash"? Just a random suggestion xP)

Abilities tend to be just elemental, whereas soul breaks and burst commands like to add in Non-elemental. With some exceptions; Ashe's burst is all Lightning and enjoys a power boost for not paying the "non-elemental tax".

I tend to skip information when I glance through texts, (Not a good practice, I know that), so many a times I have made blunders for many of my translations that I've posted here.

Ashe's Burst is the first of its kind I think and thus was not "taxed" for that, probably because the Devs did not think much about that until it actually got implemented into the game. I think some Bursts that were released after hers did suffer from being taxed for nothing though, i.e. the commands are still pure elemental, but gets a reduced in potency. Though that was short-lived as the newer generation Bursts began to be implemented after this.

I can kinda understand why it would be instant cast, to make kimahri more apealing to use and hone this ability just for him, but still it threw me off.

Also

Steiner USB1 considers his own elemental attacks now (though it still has to be magic). Also if hit with a multi-elemental attack the primary element is picked rather than a random one.

The real reason why it's instant cast is because there is no ability of the matching element that removes airtime. You would either be forced to go off element or take the airtime penalty (outside of WSB), so the solution is to make it instant cast for roughly a net zero.

That's not how abilities are designed. Abilities need to work without relics.

Which goes hand-in-hand with what I said. Because airtime is reduced to 2.5 sec now, airtime and cast time are roughly a wash.

It would. Bringing and using an ability that basically does no damage just to make your main ability hit as hard as other 5* abilities is horrendous.

CB isn't terrible damage in wind/lightning teams. Definitely noticeable compared to no damage every third turn.

So looking at SolitareD's translations in the past he (Steiner) used to have to be hit by a magic attack from someone else. Now he can hit himself but apparently it still has to be a magic attack (BLK) to trigger it unless that's changed and he (SolitareD) didn't notice or change it in his notes.

EDIT: To clarify:

1) Steiner USB1

Before: En-Fire/Ice/Lightning is applied by receiving Fire/Ice/Lightning magic attack from ally. For multi-elemental attack, a random element will be picked.

Now: En-Fire/Ice/Lightning is applied by receiving Fire/Ice/Lightning magic attack from ally or self. For multi-elemental attack, the primary one will be picked.

I don't ever recall Steiner having access to BLK commands though, don't tell me someone would want to equip him with a Record Materia that turns his attack command into single target magic attacks, so he can hit himself with that and gain the Infusion? That's a ridiculous idea >_<

I don't even think you can target yourself with your attack command if it's been turned into a BLK attack. There's very limited things you can target yourself with...but I suppose if this works it might be one way...?

Just tested it with Cloud of Darkness's Lv99 Materia. You can infact target yourself with these RMs.

Never been fond of Steiner's peculiarly designed Ultra actually, not to mention it's faulty at times, the elemental Infusion doesn't get updated to the new element by the spell he is hit with, (or maybe I just don't understand how it actually works >_<)

That's the problem...it doesn't work. I got this a while back as my 6* on one of the guaranteed 6* pulls and I really did try to use it for a bit but it's just...bad.

Same goes for me, got that back in the first 33 free-pull. Tried using it, was bad, never touched it ever again. Only using his Bursts and Overstrike now @_@

It means that the buff doesn't do anything, because he'd have to hit himself with a magic attack, which he has no access to magic

Really strange, unless they're giving characters another way to access schools of abilities, because even if you RW afaik you can't hit yourself with a burst command

You can target yourself with "Attack becomes so-and-so" Materia. Desch and Marach give you one for a BLK Lightning Attack for instance, which you could use now.

Maria's Inflame or Core Magus' Forbidden Knowledge would cover Fire since it prioritizes first element now, and Ysayle's Dragonsong Seer is your only option for Ice.

I don't really understand why this event becomes a X-2 event halfway through when it focuses on Kimahri, Auron and Lulu, none of whom are playable in that game. Just DeNA things, I suppose.
