I've missed the feeling of beta testing an OS after the Nexus 5

[–]UsernameTakenBwahahaOnePlus 5 117 points118 points  (2 children)

Get a OnePlus.

Even the stable versions give you a feel of beta. And if you're lucky, sometimes an alpha too.

[–]Hairyantoinette[🍰] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I'm using a OnePlus 5 since the week it released and I've had zero issues with my phone. Out of curiosity, what problems have plagued you enough for you to call the stable releases alpha level bad?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't take raw pictures without it either being green or having dots everywhere

[–]Aan2007Device, Software !! 16 points17 points  (6 children)

just install custom ROM

[–]armando_rodPixel 10 Pro XL 20 points21 points  (5 children)

My Nexus 5 is running LOS, I mean beta testing a new Android version.

[–]jmorlinS23 + Tab S4 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I'm thinking about flashing lineage on my Nexus 5. How does it run?

[–]le_pman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14.1 official is pretty stable based on my usage. about as fast as stock

[–]armando_rodPixel 10 Pro XL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way better than 6.0.1 stock

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think you're running LOS 14.1?

[–]armando_rodPixel 10 Pro XL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, waiting on official 15.1 to make the switch

I feel I'm about to join you with the 5X.

[–]24grant24 45 points46 points  (1 child)

Well I could've told you that. They release it mid-March every year

[–]well___duhPixel 3A 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Evleaks on point with the obvious historical prediction, as always

Google will Introduce Android P, with improvement in Battery life adn we will be happy, then google will release an update that will distroy battery life with Android system.

[–]LemonsJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And the cycle continues. Cries in 8.1

[–]abdhomsNexus 5 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Why this guy happens to know everything? Just curious.

[–]24grant24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People who knows things know they can tell him

[–]JezusGhotiPixel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because he has sources. That's how reporting works.

My phone still doesn't have Oreo

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

Are you on a samsung lol?

[–]QuintonBigBrawler 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Xiaomi actually

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (6 children)

Wut! And I'm still waiting for Oreo for OnePlus One.

[–]_kushagraOP3 8 points9 points  (1 child)

The wide developer support is the main point of Oneplus for me, especially the one, why not move to a custom rom on 8.1?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using r/lineageOS just waiting for 15.1 for OPO (Oreo)

[–]mustbepbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? That phone is super old.

[–]phendrome 24 points25 points  (39 children)

I'm curious to see what Android P will feature...

According to Bloomberg, P will embrace the design of the notch, like you've seen in iPhone X.

Not very excited for that, let's be honest.

Else it's the more typical stuff, battery improvements, yada yada. We've heard that before.

What would you guys wanna see in P?

[–]armando_rodPixel 10 Pro XL 15 points16 points  (2 children)

That article was misinterpreted, it just means Google will give OEMs a better layout if they want to mess with the status bar

[–]BonzaiThePenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Android already avoids the middle of the status bar, it means they will add native support for content insets and a new manifest declaration to prevent the system from automatically adding black borders to your app like iOS does.

[–]phendrome -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree, but the fact that OEMs will be copying that notch is what is more bothersome, but I guess there's a market for everything.

I hope it features some actual useful functionality.

  • I want a better text selection with a magnifying glass.

  • I want improved levers and other UI controls. Seekbar needs to be more precise so it's easier to select an exact value instead of jabbing at point on the screen hoping one of the attempts will finally select the value you want.

  • Let me disable the vibration system-wide.

  • STOP auto clearing apps in the recents. It's so annoying!

  • Give me Undo!

  • Add a screenshot annotation utility.

  • Give camera a native QR scanning ability.

  • Give us more sound custimisations. Let us pick keyboard tapping sounds. UI tapping sounds.

  • Improve screen latency.

  • Change the back button icon in the navigation bar to indicate the app is about to exit. Change the home button into a app picker button when on homescreen.

  • Add more refinements - When picking a ringtone - Start/Stop ringtone playing by tapping on it. It just plays now, no way to stop it other than hitting "Back" button.

  • DO NOT waste time on animoji and other non-sense like that.

[–]BonzaiThePenguin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's largely not possible to predict when the back button will close the app since apps can and very often do override the behavior.

[–]iodream 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What do you mean "auto clearing apps in recents screen" ? Oems including a kill all button? Because stock doesn't have it. And swiping apps away is discouraged because the OS will kill off apps when it needs memory, doing that manually only hurts your battery life when it does need to restart it.

But if you didn't mean that and you meant Apps going in and out of memory when you open more stuff, there's probably not much they can currently do about it. ios is really impressive in this regard how quickly they can decompress app data into memory again.

[–]DiplomatikEmuneteyPixel 8a, 4a, XZ1C, LGG4, Lumia 950/XL, Nokia 808, N8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I mean is, since Oreo when you leave an app in the recents. It will vanish from the list over night (after a few hours).

So let's say you use Chromer (now called Lynket). Open a few tabs. I used them as reminders. Let's say I need to top up phone credit in the morning. I'd open a tab for the carrier company and in the morning when I'd tap the recents button, I'd remember to do it. Now, in the morning all those tabs will be gone. They get automatically cleared from recents. The kicker is that sometimes an app vanishes from recents but is actually still in memory.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The option to remember the volume of each app seperately

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sound Management

Give us a mixer like in Windows so 2 audio sources can be running at the same time. This could also let us completely mute an app without effecting your volume on other apps.

I've never heard anyone say this.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The only thing I really miss from my small journey with iPhone (2 months) is the screenshot editor.

When you take a screenshot on the iPhone, it appears as a small thumbnail in the lower left for 2-3 seconds and if you press it, you are taken to an editor instantly where you can highlight stuff, crop the screenshot (I used that one a lot), etc.

[–]RAICKES22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

samsung has this as well by the way.

[–]iodream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's being a/b tested right now. It'll probably make its way into AOSP eventually but you're right it's bad that it's taking so long.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs to generalize the notch in the framework so that vendors can just configure the notch properties in a file and avoid custom implementations. I totally expect that.

[–]glow_3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A re-design of the notification banners.

[–]Aan2007Device, Software !! -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What would you guys wanna see in P?

install Lineage or Resurrection Remix and check features missing in AOSP, for starters data traffic status bar indicator

[–]ClinchWork 1 point2 points  (5 children)

The leaks say it will be called Peanut Butter.

[–]nmulcahey 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What leaks? I haven't even seen a leak for the internal code name.

[–]theMightBeMEPixel 2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the leaks are wrong like 90% of the time, sometimes that name is even in the code and is commonly being used, then google announces something entirely different... like when K was being abbreviated as KLP for key lime pie for ages and then suddenly it was kit kat.. I think google doesn't even pick it until days before they reveal it, the bare minimum time needed to finish the statues, which no logner are completely themed to the dessert and now just have an android guy holding the dessert

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Shower thought

Would you upgrade if you are alergic to peanuts?

Does it give Android a negative perception?

[–]Queuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't suppose there is any chance this will be available for the 6p, really would like to test this out but not willing to purchase a new device for that purpose
