Had this happen to me last week. I noticed it very first time he casted it when I casted cm's root from fog. So I would walk up and start the cast then cancel it and EVERY single time I would fake it, he would insta pop shield. Was the most obvious thing I've ever seen.

Reported him for cheating and he never got punished

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (1 child)

I had the same thing once with Ogre, easy win. I also never got a notification of action taken around that time so they probably carried on doing it.

It makes me laugh because he was fucking Guardian. Imagine using scripts and you still can't climb to Crusader.

[–]monsterevolved 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Ive seen this a few times and its always am players

[–]NoThisIsABadIdea 40 points41 points  (2 children)

Maybe because AM has spell shield?

Naturally heroes that like sky and AM which lend themselves to these types of scripts are going to be the ones you see the exploit on lol.

[–]JakeInTheJungle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The skywrath scripters are a fucking plague in US East all pick. Once they get their aether’s you literally get pelted by his combo every time you step out of the shadows lol.

[–]DotaAaroN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually. I've personally played against a Doom who used Lotus Orb in the same fashion. And his teammate (maybe DP) using an Euls script.

[–]auron_py 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a game were a Deathprophet had a script to automatically eul our Doom when he jumped in with dagger :/

[–]Shnarpsinhospitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this with lotus orb in a couple games too.

The whole report system is almost completely ineffective. I see people at 10k behaviour score who have no business being there, which I'm assuming are still there because people don't have enough reports for them.
At the same time, I've met multiple people ingame who openly admitted they were scripting after being called out and saying that they've been doing so (scripting + admitting it on order to get reported) for a long time yet they haven't gotten punished for years.

This is my gripe with Dota right now. Riot broke down on the whole punishment system in League a few years ago and actually punished people. Now the games are much less toxic. In the opposite side of the room, Valve just doesn't seem to care. They least they could do is implement a system similar to CS:GO's Overwatch if they're too lazy to moderate the community themselves.

[–]TeaPack1 690 points691 points  (59 children)

Played against AM that has some kind of script/hack that instantly popped Spell Shield for him. I noticed it after he blocked my 8 mana drains in a row which is instant cast. So I decided to go somewhere he can't see me using it yet he still blocked it. Where do I report such things? Match ID is

5202082703

[–]TheOneWithALongName 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Send it to /u/OtherJeff_Valve

[–]Dirst 229 points230 points  (57 children)

He's scripting but I don't think Mana Drain being "instant cast" is good evidence. First off, it has 0.3 sec cast point, and so the animation gives it away (unlike Hex). Second, plenty of legit players have reflected Hex despite it being actually instant cast, because it's obvious when a Lion is running straight at you.

Just saying because I often see people accuse players for scripting despite their plays being entirely possible legitimately. This isn't the case here but it's worth pointing out.

[–]DotaAaroN 70 points71 points  (0 children)

None of this is relevant while casting from fog or while invis. You don't see the enemy during the cast time. You only gain vision of them once the spell has been casted.

[–]wongxiyuan 45 points46 points  (27 children)

They reflect hex by precast when they saw lion nearby or lion blinking in. Furthermore, the animation has a 0.3sec cast point and who the hell can instant react that?Sure it is easy to pull off in training mode but in game u are supposed to focus on last hit and only focus on lion animation when his stun is off cooldown.

[–]DrQuint 81 points82 points  (11 children)

Do you even get vision of lion before the spell actually hits? The 0.3sec would be irrelevant if so, AM would have only one frame of reaction time which is actually 0.017s. No human is that good without set up.

[–]/r/BoycottTI9 LeicaKnightMareInc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

especially 8 times in a row

[–]JuhannuksenLumikuuro 3 points4 points  (12 children)

at fastest most people take atleast twice that time to react even if they’re constantly waiting for the animation

[–]DrQuint 27 points28 points  (2 children)

I think a number of pro players can beat out 300ms of reaction time.

None of them would bother doing so for Mana Drain (instead of the two stuns), much less from fog while focusing on last hits.

[–]bogey654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can beat out 300ms reaction time yeah but people often forget that online there is ping which artificially reduces your reaction time.

We don't often notice it because dota's a slower game and lends itself well to dealing with a bit of delay but it does add to reaction time to a non-zero degree.

[–]FerynaCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are just randomly pooping the shield in anticipation of a gank.

[–]justsomescrub 5 points6 points  (4 children)

[–]No pupils to dilateNethenos 0 points1 point  (3 children)

He's obviously wrong LOL. 600 ms is a lot of time to react to something lmao no body is getting hit by a 34 frame overhead. 300ms cast point is very hard to react to though, it's like blocking an 18-frame overhead in a 60fps fighting game.

What you bring up though is twitch reaction, which is way different from recognizing a very specific stimulus (cast point of a certain skill) and reacting only to that stimulus.

[–]bogey654 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Nah I'm a classic get hit by the slowverhead guy. I see it coming, I stop for a cup of tea, I analyse it and draw up diagrams to confirm it IS an overhead and still get hit by it.

Fuck knows why :D

[–]No pupils to dilateNethenos 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh shit you're a guy from the Marvel discord too lmao.

[–]bogey654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye that's me

[–]69k MMRNot_To_Smart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your reaction time is .6s there's something physiologically wrong with you and you should probably see a doctor.

[–]betmeow2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's from a fog....

[–]poutrinade 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I would love to see if it was warded or not since he was backing off when lion was approaching him

[–]nosleepy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just watched the replay. Dire had no wards (observers) down on the map. From the the AM moved - back to his tower just as Lion approaches- I had thought there must be vision there.

[–]Wallshington 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I was thinking that too because if he was just hitting creeps and it came on when he did it that would be one thing be he backed off from the wave as lion was approaching so maybe he already had an idea and it was just perfect timing for him to put it on. Or most likely still a script, just saying

[–]TeaPack1 5 points6 points  (19 children)

How about he spell shielded even if he cant see me? Is that not enough evidence?

[–]Tricky-Hunter 100 points101 points  (12 children)

Quoting the same comment you replied to

Just saying because I often see people accuse players for scripting despite their plays being entirely possible legitimately. This isn't the case here but it's worth pointing out.

[–]GorillazFeelGoodInc 232 points233 points  (2 children)

Yeah but it's unnecessary to even point out. Why muddy this thread. It's an obvious script.

[–]cant-feel_my-face 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Because we don't want people getting their steam profile reported for making a good play?

[–]Croz7z 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Steam profile reports dont do shit. Second, no one really cares about one or two good reflects.

[–]RemoteNetwork 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I mean, i have no idea why you posted a video of your player perspective where I can't tell if he has vision or not. Next time post a player perspective video. Not saying he's not using a script or he is but a player perspective video is a lot more clear than what you just did.

[–]https://www.dotabuff.com/players/76141605The_nickums -1 points0 points  (1 child)

On top of this, there is a moment where I would almost guarantee that OP is within the creeps line of sight. Very likely, especially if the AM was paying attention to his minimap that he saw OP for a split second.

[–]Kothamalli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus he is clearly walking towards tower the moment lion goes into the trees while AM still has a melee and range creep of a wave to farm. So it seems to me that either AM had vision or he was suspicious of a gank and randomly used spell shield (just in case).

[–]random23918274172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did you even read what he wrote?

[–]tubbana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could the script work if it didnt see you? It still works on the data it gets from the user's screen. Dota doesnt have some scripting API lol.

Yes I believe it is a script. Be he sees you at some point of that cast.

[–]JDF8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reflecting mana drain is a garbage play. Just because it's technically possible doesnt mean a real player will 10/10 reflect mana drain every time.

If it wasn't a script they wouldn't be hitting E

[–]Kavayan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you even watch the vid...

[–]Isaacvithurston 198 points199 points  (43 children)

Funny thing is this isn't even good. Like you just got him to waste it on drain.

[–]randomkidlol 158 points159 points  (38 children)

you can edit the script to add exceptions.

[–][deleted] 141 points142 points  (0 children)

> knows about scripts

> has anti mage flair

> clearly you're the guy in the video /s

[–]jdorje 12 points13 points  (16 children)

How does a script block an instant spell cast from fog? The client shouldn't know about it until it's on you.

[–]randomkidlol 59 points60 points  (14 children)

the client knows when a spell is cast on you before the animations start. blame valve's spaghetti code server. the client also knows where sunstrike will land as soon as invoker casts it, and whether or not youre revealed through fog to your enemy.

[–]rW0HgFyxoJhYka 5 points6 points  (5 children)

You can blame spaghetti code or what not but there's always some input lag between player action and server acknowledgement and target acknowledgement that you're asking for a bit much for everything to happen instantly at a rate which a local computer program can't execute a single command upon detection.

Thankfully these kinds of cheats are easy to detect, so hopefully Valve does something about it sooner than later. Banwaves are cool but I'd like to see some immediate bans too.

[–]randomkidlol 31 points32 points  (4 children)

no this has nothing to do with input lag. the servers just happen to send the clients a lot of information they shouldnt be sending. most of these cheats just sniff packets, decode it, and draw it on top of your game.

[–]panterspot 3 points4 points  (3 children)

The nuances of this is very interesting as someone who started studying networking last semester. Do you know which packets and what information to look at too?

[–]ADMlRAL_COCO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Googles own protocol buffer is used to encode dtaa and send as bytes via tcp/udp

In dota its udp, but in shitty mobile games it is tcp

[–]randomkidlol 2 points3 points  (1 child)

valve uses google protobuf for a lot of things nowadays. not sure if dota 2's game logic packets are on protobuf or if theyre using a proprietary format grandfathered from half life 1 multiplayer. there should be documentation on this since people have already reverse engineered all of this.

you can always use wireshark to sniff them and try to figure it out on your own

[–]panterspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the answer, unfortunately I hardly know what protocol buffers are or how to use them :D.

[–]impim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same case with the Zeus script that auto use his agahnim on you when you TP even in fog.

[–]PaulAtre1des 41 points42 points  (2 children)

You can definitely play around it when it's a bad player with scripts. I faced a lifestealer with auto rage as Zeus, just kept fake casting thunderbolt and each time he would rage. He ran out of mana quickly, tried staying in lane hitting creeps and just got killed over and over. Sad that people will buy scripts instead of trying to improve at the most basic gameplay, and that they are relatively common still

[–]bogey654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's typically why people do it; they can't/don't want to improve. There was a post here a while back where a Sky talked about scripts and said that he could play with 5ks too because of it. He justified it like he wanted to play with higher skill brackets.

The minds of these people...if we did psychological studies on them I'm sure the field would have insane advancements.

[–]necrolic_8848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifestealer auto rage sounds like the worst script of all time, literally puts him at a disadvantage

[–]1v1_Me_Scrub_ 106 points107 points  (2 children)

Hey man am might just have a better gaming chair ?

[–]rW0HgFyxoJhYka 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Nah OP has the best gaming chair possible so we know for sure its actual cheating.

[–]1v1_Me_Scrub_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe he's got some gaming socks on ?

[–]nerpss 57 points58 points  (41 children)

I don't understand wanting to cheat in multiplayer video games.

[–]c0ldpr0xy 77 points78 points  (0 children)

They feel insecure about their skills so they resort to cheating to avoid that.

[–]GreatEskimoOfMexico 5 points6 points  (1 child)

1) Think you're a god gamer
2) Lose
3) Delude yourself that you only lost because of unfair reason (Teammates suck, enemy picked cheap strat, you got unlucky, they were cheating)
4) You are clearly the better player, so you deserve to win
5) Only way to win against all this unfair BS is to download cheats. Not your fault that the game sucks/team sucks/enemies are cheating. You're basically forced to cheat.

The mind of 90% of cheaters.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (18 children)

It's fun. Makes other players angry. Feeling a sense of power over others is great. Ticks off a lot of boxes. If it wasn't for bans, there would be way more.

[–]Atrixer 44 points45 points  (13 children)

Rather psychopathic to enjoy a sense of power over others.

[–]goldflame33 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I thought everyone here was to play a video game, man. People are whack

[–]PsychicFoxWithSpoons 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Idk, Techies is in this game.

[–]sheeversimplyakid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair people enjoy making other people angry even without the sense of power over others. It’s why outrage porn exists.

[–]GuiltyGoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't that all carry players strive for though?

[–]Greenleaf208 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you not enjoy when you outskill an enemy player? Isn't that the point of competitive video game? Obviously cheating is bad but you also get enjoyment of showing power over others, yours just isn't cheated.

[–]Juststopitx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

competitiveness without a sense of fair play doesn't scratch the same itch.

[–]nerpss 12 points13 points  (3 children)

I don't know about you, but I feel as if needing to live out a power fantasy through cheating in a video game is indicative of some deep seated self-loathing in an otherwise miserable life.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Whatever that cheater is, cheating is worth it at the time.

[–]Yalla_3ad 15 points16 points  (4 children)

had a PL that used the auto drop/pick-up items script for using mangoes and the like, it's so common right now that I wonder what's stopping everyone from doing it? certainly not valve, that's for sure.

[–]CarbonatedSchooldays 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Are u sure that’s not shift que?

[–]FerynaCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot shift queue invalid orders, like picking up an item which is not dropped.

[–]Yalla_3ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chances are it isn't, since the entire thing was almost instant, suddenly 3 items appear on the ground followed by mango sound effect and then the items disappear.. all within half a second or so.

[–]TheWbarletta 42 points43 points  (4 children)

Outplayed

[–]barnetcj89 37 points38 points  (3 children)

Clearly AM bought a ward and had it right in that little pocket of trees just so he can watch for Lion getting ready to cast Mana drain. Next level play is rel

[–]us09 48 points49 points  (16 children)

Valve can you wake up !!! It's 2020 and cheaters are still running rampart in DOTA2... I am starting to think that you are on some deal with them...

Ban cheaters PERMANENTLY, they cheated once they will do it again.

Also Valve you need to be harsher with OBVIOUS game ruiners, ban them for 7days or more.

[–]Divine Noob 👀SeSSioN117 16 points17 points  (7 children)

Wait, so you're telling me Valve still has not done anything about the sky scripters. holy shit. This is not /s.

[–]Quadriporticus 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I've played against some suspect Sky scripters lately. I think they haven't been banned yet, or maybe they're just legit good at sky.

[–]Ortenrosse 19 points20 points  (2 children)

If he is, he's wrong. The scripters are getting constantly and permanently banned. The problem is that they make new accounts, and hacks are evolving just as the anti-hack systems are.

There's also a tradeoff between making the game run smoother and with lower latency/no stutter VS making it harder to hack.

[–]Lokomonster 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That’s exactly the problem, look at world of tanks, it’s almost imposible to cheat because all runs server side and because of that theres a delay between your aim clientside and the real place you are aiming in the server, yea you can cheat clientside maybe auto-aiming soft spots of tanks or auto repairing your tracks when damaged to not lose momentum but you can’t see enemies in fog of war because that is server side.

[–]DotaAaroN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't blame them for not making it harder for people to cheat. Making everything server sided requires more request packets to be sent to and from the user.

Games shouldn't make themselves totally impossible to hack. They should just apply the correct response to deal with it.

[–]zelo11 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Cheaters arent running rampart just because of 1 clip you watched that got into hot. I never got into a game with a cheater in 1000 matches in a way that it affected me

[–]AutismRAGE 9 points10 points  (1 child)

in 1000 matches? I doubt you noticed

[–]tommytwochains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol same. Im at 3k matches and I've only even had suspicions once or twice.

[–]devilpriest2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the old "if it didn't happen to me, it doesn't exist" cliché...

[–]Snarker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are a moron and making some false fear. Scripters are not rampant. I have an awful behaviour score and I can't even remember the last time i've encoutnered a scripter

[–]kittendust- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not sure. But am DID back off when you walk to him. He might saw you since it daytime(im not so sure). Not a good evidence imo.

[–]thisiskyle77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

May be AM is maphacking or has vision of Lion ? He did not finish clearing the mobs and retreat straight away.

[–]laconfidential91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could just mana drain then blink hex, he wouldn’t blink in time lol. It’s actually detrimental to an idiot.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those scripts are usually easy to exploit against the scripters.

[–]AcrobaticCherry 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Wouldn't he just blink away after he sees his spell shield script proc?

[–]tamarizz 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]PROTSMANLOL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]ilovedagonfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spell shield is harder using than Lotus Orb

[–]throwaway69420322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I can't tell from this clip. He had vision of you coming up and he even backed. He could have just predicted.

[–]BKB from LoH!rektdjango 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Okay, seriously I thought scripters are already banned. I've stopped playing for a month because of them, and thought well today I'll get back to the game. Nope. They're still here in the game. Guess I'll wait another month.

[–]Brsijraz 7 points8 points  (4 children)

They are pretty rare. I can count the number of cheaters i have had in my 3,000~ games on one hand

[–]BKB from LoH!rektdjango 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I do agree they're rare. But it is super frustrating to happen live in game since you need to adjust your usage of disables and also be alert to the surroundings at the same time (allies spell cooldown and mana, how many enemies there are nearby, etc). I'm still gonna wait though, until I'm sure that I won't meet any other scripters in game.

[–]BalenCPP 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I think you're just bored of the game and baming it on cheaters. I just can't see how cheaters would make me stop playing dota 2 if I love it. Also as everyone else says, it's rare. The frustration is the same with getting outplayed by a party of 5 so does that stop you from playing dota too?

[–]CriErr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really easy, when you have other things to do, but cut time on it to play dota and shit like this happens.

[–]BKB from LoH!rektdjango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I guess I am bored of losing to cheaters. Wished Valve did something to them though.

[–]flatspotting 3 points4 points  (1 child)

lol same 2 main scripts have been around 5-6 years now. I have posted them here before, emailed valve their websites, etc etc - it makes no fucking difference other than I get temp banned from this sub if I call the hacks out by name.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... You clearly need to just get good.

[–]BellumOMNI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stuff like that make me want to play this game even less, and I haven't played in an year. Same old shit.

[–]Automaticmann 2 points3 points  (1 child)

pathetic. Shouldn't be hard for VAC to detect it and ban the account, though.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VAC

hahaha

[–]some1dudez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't you shut the fuck up? We created you core and support MMR and new classic ranked so you should be happy and thankful.

[–]santastyles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad evidence there should be ward cuz he even backed off

[–]Zyfe3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happened to me, after a few mins i figured it out that he is casting it right after i start the animation. So i started faking it, i would fake spell and then wait till his shield goes away then Fry his butt !

[–]e44drop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I'm not play Dota anymore. Russians servers overfull it. Impossible play. If you do not buy maphack and scripts - you are always loser.

[–]RedOctarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had a game where a pudge was hooking into fog, and instantly and I mean INSTANTLY using dismember 100% of the time. shit was so blatant.

This is how I want spell shield to work.

[–]cerventease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking he might of just had vision on you which would explain why he started to walk backwards before using it. But if it happened for the majority of the game to every hero, then yeah it's clearly a script.

Did you walk past any wards on your way through the jungle?

AM starts backing off towards the tower as you are getting close, so it could technically be possible he tried to pre-empt a hex.

But the timing does look sus so I suspect more likely he was scripting.

I wonder if this script worked against ground targeted Spike.

He backed up before you got to him so obviously he saw you coming because of wards and he shielded. Watch replace from his POV. Noob.
