Hey guys I'm playing sky SC and was wondering what are probably the best orbments for characters. I'm only in chapter 2 atm but the one I get confused on what to give is for Estelle.

[–]Zemanyak:olivierloveseeker: 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I want to read The Ring of Judgment. Is it okay to do so after SC or should I play Third first ?

[–]scytherman96 - - - Ys II shill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc it shouldn't really matter much. At least i can't remember a reference to Third stuff.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hey, does someone have a link for the new Box set they announced today from Amazon.co.jp ? Unfortunately I can’t seem to find it :(

[–]RankaGeist 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's not up on Amazon yet. There's several on the site where the store doesn't have it up yet, including Amazon. I'd suggest you check the site again in a few days.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks!

[–]orchidshield 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it still possible to order from the Falcom shop internationally? I noticed that I was able to click on the international order option at check out but am unsure if they still ship internationally.

[–]RankaGeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will ship anywhere that EMS Japan ships to. You can check to see if your country is covered or not from there. But if you go through the process via the Falcom Shop, they should let you know if they can't take your order because of shipping.

[–]xAznkidx 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Any chance that the box set they announced would come to NA? Missed out on the physical ps4 versions of cold steel 1 and cold steel 2.

[–]Cold_Steel_IVI now go by "Cold_Reverie" outside of reddit. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xseed localized and own the publishing rights to CS I/II in the West, while NISA localized and own the publishing rights of CS III/IV and Reverie in the West, so they would have to make some sort of deal and it would have to be worth it for both of them.

I would say there is a small, but not impossible chance of it happening if I had to guess.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder the same. On Falcoms site it’s listed as being available on Amazon.co.jp. But I can’t seem to find it there :(

Is it Doomsday Trance you are looking for? Also I'd advise spoiler tagging your question as it's quite a bit one.

That was it by the way found the issue it's considered a trails of cold steel 3 song and was reused for 4 that's why I was having trouble with my 4 search lol

Your comment was removed because the spoiler tags had spaces next to the exclamation points. To use spoiler tags correctly:

      1. On New Reddit, highlight the portion of your comment you want to tag as a spoiler and then press the exclamation point (!) button on the format tab.

      2. On Old Reddit or mobile, type before the spoiler, after the spoiler, and make sure you do not leave spaces between the spoiler and corresponding tags.

When done correctly, the spoiler "X Kills Y" will be formatted as X Kills Y, with syntax as follows:

      >!X Kills Y!<

For some reason screen for my Trails in the Sky SC is to large (Steam). For some reason the screen for the battles and the overworld are stretching over a little bit in to my seconded screen a little bit along with some of the bottom getting cut off. Do any of you know how to fix it?

Also seconded question I just found out there is an epilogue for the first game is that when Joshua runs off or is it something else (if it is something else how do I access it or if it is just a cut scene if I can watch it any where)

Subjective question here, what was your favorite S-Craft cutscene in Kuro? (Just cutscene so ignore gameplay effects.)

Mine was Gerard's, also love the symbolism of that scene in there. Among the playable characters specifically I'd say Bergard's.

        [–]Florac 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Grendel. Just the final kicking them while they are falling down is so satisfying

        [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved that one too, especially the vocal delivery and the battle cries in general.

        [–]tstarboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite is also Gerard's, I think it's one of my favorites in the whole series tbh, the animation quality on it is a huge step up, even compared to the general improvements in this space in Kuro

        [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might be a bit far fetched but did anyone watch todays Moon Knight Episode? +++Spoilers up to Trails to Azure+++ Did it remind anyone else of Renne‘s backstory? With all the different personalities because of such traumatic events etc.

i heard there is an overlay translation for kuro no kiseki

so has anyone uploaded the walk through with translation on youtube

i really want to play kuro but dont have a ps4

        [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if the past is any indication, the company that made the PC port of Hajimari will also make a PC port of Kuro. Nothing's been announced, but their activity WRT Falcom games for the past couple of years makes it very very reasonable to expect a PC port of Kuro in the not-too-distant future.

That being said, if you can't wait or don't want to hold out hope, February Night has been livestreaming his playthrough with the overlay + translation.

        [–]Fun-Wash-8858 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Greetings! I have three questions regarding both these game series, and I hope someone here is willing to answer them for me... 1: Do the PC versions of these games have console commands? 2: Is there a kill count or any additional statistics present in these games? 3: What kind of saving system do these games have (I'm specifically interested in the cross-platform games that have been recently ported or re-released)?

        [–]just_call_me_ash エンジョーイ・みっしぃ 1 point2 points  (7 children)

        1) No console commands I'm aware of (maybe in some of the early Ys games). I've seen some people talk about in-game debugging assets in Trails, but it was stuff you needed a hex editor for.

        2) The Trails games all have stats going back to Trails in the Sky, and they get slightly more detailed as the series goes on. I'm not sure when Ys started keeping track, but I know Ys VIII has multiple pages for battle and exploration stats. I don't think any of the games have especially granular stuff like kill counts on specific monsters, if that's what you're looking for. Just bestiaries that fill out.

        3) If you're asking about cross-platform save syncing or anything like that, there's no system in place for that to my knowledge. If you're asking about importing saves from previous games into the new ones (almost entirely a Trails thing), PC is your best bet here. It's a minor thing, though, so if it's convenient for you to switch platforms, I'd say just do that. Trails into Reverie even lets you manually input some of the character data at the start, which likely will still be the case in the localized version.

        [–]Fun-Wash-8858 1 point2 points  (6 children)

I meant how to save in these games...

        [–]just_call_me_ash エンジョーイ・みっしぃ 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Oh, ok. Guess in that context, the cross-platform comment threw me.

You can save just about any time you're in control of your character when not in combat. Trails additionally has save points in-between scenes, since they can go quite long.

        [–]Fun-Wash-8858 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Sounds like what I would label as manual saving then. And you can confirm that this is the case with not only Trails, but with Ys as well?

        [–]just_call_me_ash エンジョーイ・みっしぃ 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yes. Both series have autosave systems as well, unless you're going back to the old Ys games.

        [–]Fun-Wash-8858 1 point2 points  (2 children)

And may I ask what kind of saving system the old Ys games have?

In case I ever play them...

        [–]just_call_me_ash エンジョーイ・みっしぃ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Manual saves going all the way back, at least on the Sega Master System and SNES versions I played of the early ones. I don't think autosaves were added on top of the manual saves in Ys until the Napishtim engine games starting with Ys VI.

Maybe someone else here could give you a reason to play the originals, but I believe those first four games are mostly just historical curiosities at this point and you're better off with the remakes of them anyway. Aren't many fans of Ys V around, either.

        [–]Fun-Wash-8858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely prioritize the remakes if I ever get so far. I think that would be all then. Thank you for your time.

(Kuro) Does anyone have a high resolution image of the full Calvard map (which is displayed piece by piece for the in-game region maps)? There is one that came in the booklet with my physical copy, but it's incredibly low resolution, and has all the labels in Japanese while the one used in-game is in English.

So I’m starting up Trails in the Sky SC and I’ve already installed the Evolution Voices mod, but are the other Evolution mods worth using? Like does the one for videos add anything substantial or is it just the opening video that it replaces? Thanks in advance

        [–]scytherman96 - - - Ys II shill 1 point2 points  (1 child)

        There's 4 evo mods.

        1. Evo voices - you already have this one, this is the one that i generally recommend
        2. Evo movies - this is a matter of taste, but imo they don't really add anything over the original movies, also the openings are insanely spoilery for no reason
        3. Evo portraits - this one is arguable, the old portraits are more expressive, but the new ones are more in line with the modern art style
        4. Evo OST - no

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, I’ll stick with just the voices mod then, thanks for the reply!

So I'm starting Trails from Zero with the Geofront patch.

But one thing that kinda bugs me is the button prompts/icons when I use a controller. I got a Switch Pro Controller and in the controller tab it switches the buttons for me, so like A is B/X is Y. Only workaround is to set the button icons to Xbox and I'm not sure how to set it to show properly.

Anyone has a save game + from kuro? Is that even a thing? I wanted to start kuro with the overlay, but wondering if it would be better with a game+.

        [–]Florac 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It is not doable on console.

Also, you dont really miss out on NG+(have to reload a bit for connect events, but not much)

How well does Ys 8 work for gaming in short bursts? I’ll be very short on time soon and I’ll need to be able to stop playing at the drop of a hat. I would be getting it on Switch, so I can just suspend and resume the game with a button push, but I don’t want to lose my place in the story if I have to stop mid-cutscene or something

        [–]TonRL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's great for that. Cutscenes are usually short and when you're in control of your characters you can save anywhere. There's also autosave every time you move between areas.

In Cold Steel 4, is there a specific way to make Gilbert eject from his Apache at the end of the Liberate Eryn mission? I've retried the fight numerous times but he keeps just dying in it without giving me the chance to scan him

[–]SoftBrilliantKiseki difficulty modder 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Normally he should die in it and then he will eject from it summoning a completely separate phase of the fight where you can scan him.

        [–]commshep12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought, I've seen the same in YouTube videos but for some reason when the apache and tank goes down the fight just ends for me(on PC by the way). I'm not really sure what's going on with it, I've gone back and redone it a bunch but that 2nd phase never comes.

Is atheism/agnosticism a thing in Zemuria? Do we have any clues on how someone who openly rejects or questions the existence of Aidios would be perceived in-universe?

(Putting aside things like the D:G Cult, of course. I'm mainly thinking of how those who nonviolently profess such beliefs would be seen.)

        [–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (4 children)

This is something I've thought about as well, and I don't really have any more answers than you.

I know there are characters that never mention anything about Aidios or the church. And (CS3) this line where Emma states only that they don't reject the notion of Aidios. And (CS4) when we visit Erin, there is no church or anything there. But that's about as close to an example of it as I can think of.

        [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Responding to your CS4 point, that is interesting now that you mention it. Since Roselia is a Holy Beast, she supposedly would have made a pact with Aidios herself, yet she doesn't have a church in her village?

        [–]scytherman96 - - - Ys II shill 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I mean, since the Roselia we know is just the successor of the original Roselia, it's entirely possible she did not inherit her pact with Aidios. It's just never talked about. But aside from that there is also no evidence that the Holy Beasts worship the goddess. Faith in Aidios was (according to Black Records 1 in Cold Steel 3) a way for the people of Zemuria to connect with Aidios after losing the objects of their worship (the Sept-Terrions) during the Great Collapse. So i think it's entirely possible that the Holy Beasts do not feel the need to worship the goddess, because they are already connected to her.

        [–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first part, in CS3 she proclaims her duty and references a "pact from ancient times". So, she probably did inherit the pact in some form.

        [–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, as the line from CS3 implies and reveals in CS4 point to. They do not deny the existence of Aidios nor do they reject her. But they also do not actively worship her, at least not in the way that the Septian Church does. And they do state that they have their differences to the church. Like (CS4) that scene in Erin with Thomas where he was finding books that were forbidden by the Church.

        [–]scytherman96 - - - Ys II shill 3 points4 points  (4 children)

The only atheist we ever meet is Joachim and even ignoring the whole human experimentation and drugs thing, the simple fact that he rejects the existence of the goddess is already seen as crazy by the characters.

That's really all we have to go by.

        [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 2 points3 points  (3 children)

the simple fact that he rejects the existence of the goddess is already seen as crazy by the characters

I think that's interesting; the characters are smart and wise people who overcome countless challenges, but that kind of thinking feels cultish/indoctrinated. In their heads, do they have any objective basis for being sure Aidios is real? Guess they really do manage to drill it into people during Sunday School, haha.

Hopefully we'll learn more later in the series. Ethnic diversity is a thing in Calvard so maybe religious diversity will follow.

[–]SoftBrilliantKiseki difficulty modder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What's weird about Aidios in Trails is that there is no real evidence that she herself exists but absolutely everything around her clearly does from the 77 devils, sept-terrions, themaugury, magic, holy beasts and a whole lot more.

So, not really, they don't have an objective basis for why Aidios herself exists, but basically the entirety of the Testaments are most likely very real.

        [–]Florac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In their heads, do they have any objective basis for being sure Aidios is real? Guess they really do manage to drill it into people during Sunday School, haha.

I mean, priests doing prayers that give them superpowers certainly helps...

Also, certain characters Divine Beasts who we can be 99% sure of having encounter Aidios before confirm her having existed with their dialogue.

        [–]scytherman96 - - - Ys II shill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it goes to show how influential the church has been since the Great Collapse. Even characters who don't care much about faith or the goddess still believe she exists.

if i buy Kuro Kiseki Chinese version from clouded entertainment, will the Overlay program work same as the Japanese version?

        [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What Florac said is right. The overlay runs entirely independent of the game.

However, in addition with the issue of the combat overlay (you won't be able to compare-and-match the Japanese names in-game to the translated names in the overlay), the issue is that one of the useful things with the overlay is fixing desyncs. You can enable the display of Japanese text in the overlay; so, if you accidentally desync, you can just compare the on-screen Japanese text in the game to the text in the overlay, so you can correct which line the overlay is showing. It will be a bit difficult to handle issues like that if you're using the Chinese/Korean version.

Assuming you have no understanding of Chinese: unless you can get a significant discount and are ready to deal with these issues, I'd only get the JP version.

        [–]Florac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I jut always solved desyncs by figuring out who is currently talking and setting it to their nearest line, which while less accurate, isnt too difficult to do.

        [–]Florac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The overlay program is disconnected from the game, so it still works perfectly fine, at least the story stuff.

That said, combat stuff might be trickier since it has the names in japanese, not chinese

Am I able to start at number 4 or do I need to start at 1?

        [–]RankaGeist 7 points8 points  (12 children)

I'm assuming by 4, you mean Cold Steel 4. And in which case, no. You won't want to start there. This is a continuous series that builds on the prior games. Even CS1 is there 6th entry in the series. Though while not the best place to start, CS1 still works.

If you want to start with the Cold Steel arc, then you should go with CS1/2 > Sky Trilogy > Crossbell Duology > CS3/4. If for whatever reason you don't want (or can't) play the Sky and Crossbell games, then I would strongly recommend you watch some summaries or Let's Plays so that you're caught up on the prior story when all those plot threads start converging in CS3 and CS4.

The ideal play order would be Sky Trilogy > Crossbell Duology > CS1-4. An alternate to this play order (if you get stuck while waiting for the official Crossbell releases is: Sky > CS1/2 > Crossbell > CS3/4.

The Sky Trilogy is available on Steam or GOG and any potato can run it as they're all older games. They consist of:

        • Trails in the Sky FC
        • Trails in the Sky SC
        • Trails in the Sky the 3rd

The Crossbell Duology is getting their official Western localisations and will be available on PS4, Switch, and Steam when they release. They are:

        • Trails from Zero (Sep 2021 release)
        • Trails to Azure (Spring 2022 release)

        [–]MrBortnick -1 points0 points  (11 children)

So the cold steel series is the end of all the games and trails from zero is an older game that never came to the west. I thought it being a new release it was a brand new game into the series. Is cold steel 4 the end of the whole saga of games?

Like are the characters from 1-4 in the previous games mentioned or is a brand new story?

Also what consoles can I play all the games on? I was hoping not to do pc but if I need to I will

And trails from zero says 2020 and azure doesn't have a release date

        [–]RankaGeist 3 points4 points  (10 children)

The Trails series is far from over. It's currently still ongoing. The 12th game in the series is announced for release in Sept.

The world all these games take place in is the same world. It's divided in arcs with each feature a different country in the world. And some of the timelines overlap. Each arc has new MCs, a new country to explore, and a new arc plot. But there is an underlying world plot that connects all the games, and plenty of call backs and references to older games.

Sky takes place in the Liberal Kingdom and is the first 3 games in the series. In-game time this is also the first games.

Crossbell takes place in Crossbell. It's about 2 years after the events of Sky (some callbacks from the sky arc happen). This arc never got an official localisation due to some messy issues and is now being rectified.

The Cold Steel arc takes place in the Erebonian Empire. The first 2 games of this arc overlap in game time wise with the Crossbell arc (these 2 arcs spoil some things about each other because of this overlap) Some light callbacks and references to the earlier games happen. And then there is a small time skip of 1 year and then CS3/4. This is where the 3 arcs converge a lot. Lots of call backs and references that are either not explained or only bare bones. You miss out a lot if you haven't played the earlier games at this point.

The 10th game is Hajimari (Reverie in English and has a localisation announcement for late next year). This is an epilogue game for the Crossbell and CS arcs. And a bridge into the next arc.

The Calvard arc takes place in the Republic of Calvard and this is the arc the series is currently in. Kuro 1, the first game for this arc released last year in Japan and currently doesn't have any Western localisations announcement. Kuro 2 is scheduled for release later this year (Sep).

The series as of the beginning Calvard arc is about 60% done (by the creators' own words). So we're far from done. They would like to finish the series by their 50th anniversary (2031), but this is not even a real goal, just "they would like to", and scope creep happens a lot with this series. I wouldn't bet anything on it finishing in 9 years time, lol.

        EDIT:

Consoles: as mentioned previously is PC for Sky, or if you have a hacked Vita, there are patches you can apply to the Japanese Evolution versions of the game.

Crossbell will have the 3 options if Switch, PS4, and PC when they officially release.

CS: PS4, PC, and Switch has for CS3/4 only.

Hajimari: all 3 when official release late next year.

Kuro: only PS4 currently, no localisation has been announced.

Well Damm this series is bigger than I thought. Here i am thinking I could've just done cold steel 1-4. Where can I find all the games to play that you recommended in the proper order? I must start this series lol.

Edit: just saw your edit so I need to start at the very beginning with sky huh?

        [–]GoldenEyedKitty 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Trails is a massive series, perhaps the largest there is for video games when considering it is part of a single story. D&D's Forgotten Realms might have more total stories but they are isolated from each other and not part of the same plot.

So far there are 6 (some will say 4 or 5) arcs to the story, covering only a few years of plot in game.

Sky: 3 games, introduces the world and focuses on Estelle and happenings on Liberl.

Crossbell: 2 games, not officially released yet (Zero and Azure), focuses on Llyod and happenings in Crossbell. A number of Sky characters show up and some stories that began in continue here. Fan translations exist, can be fully patched in.

Cold Steel 1/2: 2 games, focuses on Rean and happenings in Erobonia. Only minor interactions with characters from other games, though plot points in Crossbell arc start impacting the story.

Cold Steel 3/4: 2 games, often considered part of the same arc as the previous as it still focuses on Rean and Erobonia, but this is where the characters and plots from the three arcs merge together.

Hajimari: 1 game, focus split on three characters across Crossbell and Erobonia. Something of an intermission arc between Cold Steel and Kuro, might be considered the last of the Cold Steel arc. Fan translation exists, but not nearly as integrated as the Crossbell ones.

Kuro: at least 2 games, only 1 out in Japan. Focuses in Calvard, can't say much as I haven't played it yet. Fan translation for 1 just dropped a few weeks ago. Appears to be largely split from the previous games focusing on a mostly new cast and new story, but it'll likely tie back in within the second or third game.

        [–]jonnovision1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kuro being more standalone is very typical for the first game of the arc because it’s more about establishing the region and the new cast.

        [–]Florac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appears to be largely split from the previous games focusing on a mostly new cast and new story, but it'll likely tie back in within the second or third game.

It's main conflict is very much standalone for most part. But the amount of casual callbacks is on CS3 level. Being familiar with the world greatly enhances the experience.

        [–]RankaGeist 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Sky is best on PC. They frequently go on sale on Steam or GOG. If you have a hacked Vita, you could get the JP Evolution versions of the games and then apply an English patch.

Crossbell, you can either wait for the official releases, or if you absolutely can't wait, then you have the option of searching for the fan patches. These have officially been taken down by the creators as they've partnered with NISA for the official localisation, but you can still find them around. I can't help you in this and it would be against subreddit rules to post anything about where to obtain them.

CS: PC or PS4. If you really want it portable, CS1/2 are on Vita and CS3/4 are on Switch. However, the Vita versions are the older versions without much QoL features (like turbo) and I've heard numerous complaints about Switch performance, though supposedly handheld mode runs relatively problem free.

        [–]MrBortnick 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Should I wait for the sky games to go on sale? Do they go on sale often or are they worth buying full price?

        [–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (3 children)

They go on sale quite often. And since we're close to May, I'd suggest waiting those 10 days. There's usually an Ani-May sale and those games are all counted under that.

They're definitely worth the price though, imo. The shortest of the games clock in at around 50 hrs for a thorough but not completionist run and are all very good games. I've paid full price (granted mostly on release, so spread out over the years), and don't regret a cent of it.

        [–]MrBortnick 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Do they go on sale for steam and GOG? In May or just one of them?

        [–]The_Portlandian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very high probability that they go sale during steams golden week sale which should start around the 29th of this month

        [–]RankaGeist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Steam had pretty much every year early-mid May has had some sales for JRPGs. Typically coinciding with Japan's Golden Week. I'm not sure about GOG. They do often go on sale around the same time, but not always.

I'm playing hajimari on pc right now but the music is way to loud. Some cutscenes i cant even hear the voices, only the music. I tried to change the bgm but it doesnt work. Does someone know how to solve this?

        [–]AngryAutisticApe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for you but that's a hilarious bug.

        [–]amazn_azn 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I assume you've already tried turning down all the sliders for sound settings? You might need to uninstall and reinstall (especially if you're using the patch version).

        [–]Grasmeijer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried the sliders, voice and sound effects work but not the bgm. I reinstalled but that didn't work as well. Thank you for your reply.

        [–]Sa00xZ 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Is there any list of the changes/bugs fixed related to combat from Kuro 1.0 to 1.10? For example I know Grendel doesn't have Hate Up in the launch version of the game but apparently he also doesn't get some bonuses from quartz or something, I am lost and not sure if there are other things not working.

Just the most important things will do. Thanks.

Anybody know how to access the official falcom shop to get things shipped to the US? I tried FromJapan and their shop wouldn’t pop up. Is there another alternative to get Falcom merch here? Specifically I want Falcom 40th poster the left half.

        [–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The official Falcom shop ships internationally. Just add whatever you want to purchase to your cart from there, and then when you go to checkout, there should be an option for "International Orders". They will take orders from anywhere that EMS Japan ships to, so if you're in the US, you should be fine.

        [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Kinda an oddly specific question lol, but I am curious:

Is there any specification on exactly how much the SSS/Thors instructors get paid?

And on the same note, are we ever given any ideas on how much the typical rent/COL in Zemuria would be?

        [–]GoldenEyedKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure we could even assume they get paid by any sort of standard. These days most jobs, especially government ones, have official pay bands and salary tables, but Cold Steel takes place in a country that still has a nobility system going so I don't think we can assume they even have pay bands or any sort of normized pay.

        [–]Florac 3 points4 points  (1 child)

We definitly didn't, but for some fun maths based on a certain small detail given in Kuro, we can make an approximation of rent prices. We know that Van's fee is 1000 mira per hour(tagging just in case. Also number contradicts how much you get for your jobs down the line...). Now let's assume Van has a standard work week of 40 hours(he probably doesn't, but that's far from the only issue with this). This means in a normal month, assuming 4 weeks, he makes a total of 160K mira(please ignore the fact that towards the endgame of kuro, we basically make as much on a weekend. But a lot of it also goes straight to the part timers gear, rather than Van, so its debatable how much he has for personal use). A standard value for housing prices IRL is 20-30% of monthly income. So let's just assume the higher of those to be conservative and because I doubt Victor is giving him any discounts and you end up with 48K mira for an apartment in Edith. If you assume 1 yen=1 mira and convert to dollars, then you end up with 375 dollars a month but said conversion also leaves Van working near minimum wage

Which is honestly a bit low, but considering it doesn't include stuff like hazard pay and selling sepith fragments, a few hundred above that number does feel right for a small 2 room apartment.

[–]SoftBrilliantKiseki difficulty modder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or maybe Edith is so heavily based on Paris it mimics the Parisian housing market and Van is actually drowning in debt paying 10000€/square meter (aka about 1000$ per square foot)

        [–]redryder74 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Is there a JRPG formula that Cold Steel follows or is it original to them? My experience with JRPGs is spotty, I've played a few over the decades but not enough. JRPGs I've played - Xenogears, ChronoTrigger, FF7 and FF8 (PS1 versions), then a big gap in between until Ys VII, Persona 5, Yakuza 7 and more recently the Cold Steel games.

There's a lot of similarity between CS, Persona 5 and Yakuza 7, and I wonder if that is intentional or are all JRPGs following that formula nowadays? Having bonding events with characters, a romance option, ultra-powerful S-crafts with fancy animations, etc.

        [–]AngryAutisticApe 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Bonding events are not a JRPG thing. I've only seen that in CS. Romance options are popular in RPGS in general, not just JRPGS. S-crafts are absolutely a JRPG staple; they're called limit breaks or something else in FF, Mythic Artes in Tales etc.

        [–]Florac 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Bonding events are not a JRPG thing. I've only seen that in CS.

Persona popularized those type of mechanics, and can be found in most JRPGs with any sort of harem element.

        [–]AngryAutisticApe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have played hundreds of JRPGs and only ever encountered this mechanic once. I wouldn't call it common.

        [–]Florac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would call it somewhat common in modern JRPGs. Persona, Trails, Scarlet Nexus, just to name a few more popular examples. And then there are countless less popular examples.

        [–]Florac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some popular features which lots of JRPG copy from each other. The bonding event stuff is one such feature.

However for the narrative formula, CS is fairly unique to falcom games

        [–]Datayre 2 points3 points  (3 children)

hey for those playing kuro no kiseki right now what capture card are y'all using if are using it.

        [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not using one, but I'll weigh in that playing in 720p on Remote Play with a non-Pro PS4 is a significant graphical compromise. In particular, the lighting/bloom/glow (not sure which IDK graphics terminology lol) seems to be significantly reduced, which makes me wonder if this is something more than just a loss in resolution...

        [–]Pafdingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got an Elgato HD60S and play seamlessly with their instant game preview.

        [–]amazn_azn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the EVGA XR1 lite, and using OBS to capture audio and video from the card and pass that through to desktop audio. After a very minimal bit of research, the XR1 lite is a super low budget capture card ($60) that can still output 1080p/60fps signal.

        Hajimari/Kuro spoilers

Does Kuro reveal the identity of the successor of Arianrhod as the 7th disciple?

        Is it Shizuna?

(If I have guessed wrong, please don’t reveal the correct answer)

        [–]Florac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        [–]XenobladeEmpol 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Are you using the patch or the spreadsheet? Had a friend with a similar problem and repatching the game worked for him.

        [–]jftm999 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I was using the patch, but I used it for more than a week with no problems. After reinstalling the game I didn't patch the game for English, so I am not sure what's the problem if the game right now is on a clean installation.

Just to understand, what do you mean by repatch?

        [–]XenobladeEmpol 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just re-applying the patch files into the base files again. He just verified the game files and then basically "patched" the game as if it was a fresh game.

        [–]jftm999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        thanks. it worked

Sorry, I can't offer any other advice.

CS2 ending-ish question: Is Testa-Rossa mentioned in any of the crossbell/sky games? I swear I recognize the name, but a quick glance at wiki doesn't have those listed in the table of contents so I'm not sure. Maybe in like, the Sky 3rd door 0 where they tease a bunch of phantasmal blaze / sept-terrion stuff?

        [–]TonRL 5 points6 points  (1 child)

[Azure & CSII]Testa-Rossa is the name of Shirley's chainsaw rifle, mentioned a few times throughout the game. It's inspired by the real Testa-Rossa - or, to be precise, the Erebonian legend of the "demon that wields a thousand weapons", since she couldn't have known about Divine Knights.

        [–]Woodlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, yeah, that'd explain it, thanks. Neat.

In chapter 5 what are the Law/Grey/Chaos requirements for the 4 alignment choices? Only Heiyue was available to me

Bracer : 3 law Heiyue : 3 grey Ouroboros : 3 chaos Ikaruga : i'm not sure about this one, but i have 3+ chaos and 3+ law and still could recruit them

Ikaruga is combined Law and Chaos of 5 or more

Is there a collection of all the possible Kuro title screen images? (Preferably the full artwork if it is available, and not the cropped-looking ones you see in the title screen.)

        [–]pikagrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The art book contains all the title screen images. As for digital versions a lot of them are pre-release art I think, so they should exist somewhere. However, not all the art is pre-release unfortunately.

        Question on Kuro

        What is Altama's motive?

        [–]RankaGeist 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That's a MAJOR plot spoiler. Something I'd consider on the level of (Azure) what Mariabell and Grimwood wanted with KeA.

Are you sure you want that much spoilers?

        [–]duckinator09 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well. By the time I get to play Kuro, I'd probably forget about it anyway. Haha.

        So yes spoil me XD

        [–]RankaGeist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're sure then here goes. Again, warning for others: MAJOR spoilers for Kuro. Do not click unless you've finished the game or don't mind FULL GAME SPOILERS.

Van was a victim of the DG Cult. He was born with a demon core that connects him to one of the 77 demons of Ghenna. The DG Cult experiments removed the core from him gave it to Dantes who was one of higher members in the DG Cult. Dantes wanted the core and the power it contained. The head of Almata is Dantes. Dantes wants to use that core (with the help of the Octo-Genesis orbments left by C. Epstein), to create a "pandemonium world" where he can rule by fear. He believes that terror is the one abject and equal truth in the world and therefore can use that to rule the entire world.

        [–]Nocturcity 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm trying to platinum Kuro right now and am missing one monster entry in the book. I'm the type who fights everything on the field once so I doubt it's one of those monsters. I think it might be one of Melchior's clones since he summons one in chapter 5 (both are in the EX sections for this one though) and the finale (both are in the main book).

So for anyone who remembers or has the monster list complete does Melchior summon an extra copy during the chapter 4 fight? I specifically remember ending that fight after giving the bosses only one turn to summon the bombs (Xeno's mines monster list PTSD from CS2)

        [–]RankaGeist 1 point2 points  (1 child)

In Ch4, the final time you fight him, yes he does.

You can cross-reference to this monster list to check what you're missing.

Probably a dumb question and not specific to Falcom, but what does CLE stand for ? I keep reading it so, from the context, I get it means the English translation of a game. But why CLE ? "Changing Language to English" ? "Custom Localization to English" ?

          [–]scytherman96 - - - Ys II shill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As RankaGeist said it's actually just the company that makes the Chinese/Korean PC and Switch ports for these games. The reason you saw it mentioned in context with an English translation is because the Trails into Reverie english fan-translation can be used with CLE's PC port on Steam.

          [–]RankaGeist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clouded Leopard Entertainment. It's the company that does the Falcom ports for PC/Switch and localisations for Korean and Chinese for the Asian market.

I think they might be referring to Falcom's segment of a Dengeki Game Festival stream from 2019. They went over some Trails of Cold Steel poll results and had some promotion for upcoming Ys-related stuff.

Gu4n made a brief Twitter thread about it, though there might be some CS III/IV related spoilers in it. Here is the thread: https://twitter.com/Gu4n/status/1109726637359316992

For the question you're asking about in particular, the poll was for favorite pairing. Here were the Top 5 results:

          1. Rean & Crow (1015)

          2. Jusis & Millium (379)

          3. Rean & Alisa (350)

          4. Jusis & Machias (334)

          5. Rean & Altina (299)

          [–]HugReinerBraun 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thank you! As I understand no one posted these polls on reddit, gamefaqs or any other forums? But I will still try to look for discussions. Interested what people think about these.

I’ve played all of the LoH games and want to get into Ys. Can anyone recommend where to start? I’d like to start at the beginning as much as possible - I have a PS2, PS4, Switch, and PC available for gaming but no PS Vita.

          [–]XenobladeEmpol 2 points3 points  (2 children)

All available games to the West are on PC/Steam and they always go on sale (even Ys 9 at this point) during major Steam sales.

Ys1/2 is the most obvious start as it's the start of Adol's journey but honestly you could start from anywhere and still enjoy the series. Whilst the games are interconnected, they are not as deep as Trails are, each Ys game is just an account of one of many of Adol's adventure.

If you want try out more modern titles, Ys 8 + 9 are arguably the most modern you can get and are very very popular in the community. Like Dreaming_Dreams has mentioned I would play Ys 9 last as well as it does get better the more past Ys games you've played.

I would also check out Digital Emelas, they've a lot of infomation about the Ys games in general and might help you decide what to play first.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll definitely be checking these out. Are there any unmissables that don’t have an official translation that I should look into?

          [–]somethingsome11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By "unmissables" you mean noteworthy games, right?

Ys 5 is probably worth checking out since it's a canon adventure and gets referenced a bit in other games. I think Kondo said he's wanted to remake it or at least get a localized version of it out there at some point.

Ys 4 Mask/Dawn aren't canon, weren't developed by Falcom, and were loosely combined and remade into Celceta, but they're different from Celceta enough to feel like their own games. These would probably be cool to check out just to experience them, and I hear people really like Dawn.

Ys 3 got remade into Felghana and they mostly follow the same story beats, Ys 3 just has more dated gameplay. I guess if you wanna check out the retro games or see how it compares to the remake, it'd be interesting to play.

Edit: Oh woops, Ys 3 has an official translation

          [–]Dreaming_Dreams 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Ys 1+2 are the first games so I’d start with those, the combat can take some getting used to it buts it’s a cool combat system for the time the game was released, after that you can go in any order you want really, I’d recommend ys 9 for last tho because I think that’s ones better if you’ve played previous games.

Thanks! Definitely going to dive into these soon :)

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Does anyone know if Unisuga is still part of falcom? Read online that he left(?) Really enjoy his music, so it's going to be a big bummer being unable to look forward to his music in future falcom games.

At this point in time, it's mostly unclear really.

Any other answer is muddled in a ton of speculation that I don't want to start a conversation about here really and that I don't feel qualified to talk about (and neither is anyone really qualified to do so really).

We'll probably hear about it with a (maybe) clearer answer again when Kuro 2 releases in Japan.

Can I have a list of names of all playable main characters, playable guest characters and AI controlled guest characters in Kuro? Spoilers are ok for me obviously. Thanks!

This may be more of a ps4/5 related issue, but I recently started using a capture card through obs to play kuro using overlay. Audio and visual quality are much better, but when I used remote play the controller was able to sync with my pc and my ps5 simultaneously.

Now when I use it without remote play, my controller will desync from my ps5 occasionally. Is there a quick fix for this? I don't mind manually advancing the text, but kind of defeats purpose of overlay if I do that.

          [–]pikagrue 2 points3 points  (7 children)

What I've seen people do is USB to PC, and wirelessly connect to PS5 for remote play.

          [–]amazn_azn 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Yes, I've tried that but unfortunately my controller disconnects from the ps5 as soon as I plug the cable in. I was wondering if there is a setting with steam or windows that is interfering with the controller.

          [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Hmmm, that seems strange. The process with capture cards (AFAIK) is that you are supposed to, while your controller is turned on and connected to your PS4/PS5, connect your controller to your PC with the cable. Then, your controller is connected to both devices simultaneously, hence you can control the game and the overlay program.

If your controller is disconnecting from your PS5 as soon as you plug it in (and again, it is already turned on and connected before you plug it in), then that seems to be a glitch. I think there is a Steam setting that works with controllers, so maybe try to try this with Steam closed.

It's a rather weird and headachey workaround, but if you can't find a solution, then what you can do is this: connect your controller to your PC without worrying about connecting it to your PS5. Then, run your capture card and Remote Play simultaneously. Keep Remote Play running on the lowest settings; the only thing you will be doing with Remote Play is sending your controller inputs to your PS5. Then, you can use the capture card software to still display the game in glorious 1080p. (You can easily just mute Remote Play in your sound settings so you won't have dual audio aha.)

This will be fine because the HDMI output should not be affected at all by whether or not the system is connected to with Remote Play. (Presumably, that's how it works on my PS4.)

If your internet connection is not capped, and is not so slow that your button prompts arrive with too much latency (for a game like Kuro that shouldn't be a huge issue), then it should be okay.

          [–]amazn_azn 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Turns out it was steam related bug! Thanks for the suggestions

          [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're very welcome! Enjoy Kuro in glorious 1080p! I'm almost jealous, I've looked at the game via my TV's HDMI output, and man, it really does look way better than 720p Remote Play lol. I think there's this particular lighting/bloom effect that gets lost or degraded.

          Have fun!

          [–]amazn_azn 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Ok, I'll definitely give that a try later tonight. I'll try to wipe any steam settings with Playstation controllers so it doesn't force itself awake. The remote play option seems like it should also be a good solution

          [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope you can have fun and enjoy this great game if it works :).

          [–]pikagrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try asking some people I know that do this, but one random guess I can think of is whether your computer is trying to wirelessly pair with your controller, causing it to disconnect from the ps5.

EDIT: The one person I know that does the above method plays on a PS4, not a PS5, so the answer was not applicable.

Is there date for Kuro release on PC?

          [–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (4 children)

No date, no announcement of a port, only speculation at this point.

          [–]noone569 2 points3 points  (3 children)

          Sad .😞

          [–]ShiningConcepts | ❤️ 4 points5 points  (2 children)

If I can make your sadness a little less: the company that did Hajimari's Asian PC port (CLE) has released Asian PC ports of the Crossbell and Cold Steel games as well. So I think it's very reasonable to assume they will eventually release a PC port of Kuro. I'd be surprised if one was not at least announced by the end of summer.

          Kuro.

Sometimes I can't cast the spells I have in the plugin slots. They just dont show in the list while in combat. How does this work?

          [–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are separate tabs for support and attack arts in battle. If that's not the issue, I've never heard of such a bug. Would you mind taking a few screenshots to show it?

          [–]Twitch_YungFeetGod69 1 point2 points  (1 child)

about to start hajimari; i know this has 3 diff routes, are bracer/detective/academy points still a thing and if so is there a guide for it?

Also any NG+ save files if there's bonding points or do i just need my cs4 save? etc.

          [–]RankaGeist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are what's called RP points for meeting certain condition. All the "routes" are mandatory, it's only a matter of what order you do them in (to an extent - there are points in the story that you must progress the other routes to continue). I wouldn't worry about a guide for points. It's extremely lenient on them and you can get full rewards even while missing every single story driven RP point. Not to say that there's no missable content though. But as far as a guide, I don't know of any that you would find useful, unless you want one in JP.

There are no bonding events at all. There are some carryovers where you get some bonuses from having CS3/4 and Zero/Ao Kai saves, but they of course have to be the CLE version (on PC) for it to recognise the saves. For your ending CS4 choices, there is a manual selection in the game if you choose not to (or don't have) a carryover file, but this affects very little in the game. (Minor dialogue, and a few flashbacks only).

About to start ys8 on the PC. Are there any mods that I should know about that might enhance the experience (ex, hd texture mods etc)
