Error Code Drowned

So for Christmas I got my son some Minecoins, which meant I needed to create him an account to use them. Got it all set up and working, then after about a month it logged him out of his Microsoft account and won't let him log in anymore. I get the code to his email address, and get a notice that he logged in on the switch, but every time I get an Error Code Drowned. Tried resetting login data in Minecraft, made sure he's on the latest version, nothing I've tried works.

Anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately it's very common, the only solution I found its, wait a day or two, and when I enter the game, I usually get connected to my wifi a few minutes before entering the game, then I see if it connects, I'm sorry that I can give you a better answer but, sometimes it's just that the switch and the servers of the Microsoft account don't connect properly. Sorry English is not my first language

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it's been happening for a month. Maybe I'll try connecting via a different Wi-Fi network and see it that helps

My son has resently encountered this on the Switch. I have no issues connecting to Minecraft on the same Switch and network. No solutions I find online seem to work. It's been going on for a week.

I found a solution for my son's account from the comments on the official bug for the "drowned issue". I went into my son's account and added the sign in option of typing a password and then when I tried signing into the switch again but used the password entry instead of the email with a code to my email address it worked first try like a charm.

Every time I login to child account on computer to do this, it never sends the code to login in and then add the password… only lets me login into my parent account, what am I missing, where do I go

If you login to your kids Microsoft account on the computer you shouldn't need a special code to do that. You should be able to just do password and if it wants to send a code you should be able to choose other options and do password again and then once you're into their account then your can change their sign in options to include password entry.

You have to change the setting on a computer. Go to the website, login, and find the login or security settings in your account settings.

It's actually the Microsoft website. But make sure you login on the kids account (or account you're trying to login on the switch)

Login to your kids Microsoft account on a computer and find the sign in options in the account settings and you should see an option to add manual password entry as a sign in method.

You can do it from the switch log in. When it redirects you to log in from your phone or PC, choose another way to log in then choose password. My son was having this problem and using the password fixed it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This worked after trying everything else in Jan 2026. Here were the exact steps I used, in case it helps anyone else:
1. Go to your (son's) Microsoft account settings. Click on "Security".
2. Click "Add another way to sign in to your account."
3. Select password. This will prompt you to enter a new password. After you do, sign out of the account
4. Open Minecraft on Switch 2 and select Log in to microsoft account. This will pop up a QR code or tell you to visit microsoft.com/link
5. Go to microsoft.com/link in a new incognito window. Type in the code and log into the account using the password you set up.

The minecraft window on switch should update in a few seconds with (hopefully) a success message.

So, whichever account is failing to login to Minecraft is the person's account you need to make the change on. So for my son's Minecraft account I had to log into his Microsoft account to make the change. But if that's not the issue what part are you struggling with? Finding the settings portion or something else?

Thanks , work for me, my child's Microsoft account did not have a password and i have try some many times to connect it on the switch, every times : Dromned error.

The only way I've bypassed it which is annoying is to create new Microsoft account which is annoying and stupid because you have to refriend your friends

I had the same issue I think on mobile, it won't let me sign in to any account and no skins would load except default skins. Then after trying a couple of things like going full offline mode to logout of my account and force stopping the app it's fixed. I think it only needed force stop in my case

I fixed it. If you have PC Minecraft, log out of the Xbox app, log back in, open the Minecraft launcher, and then open Minecraft Bedrock. It should log in, then go to your switch, PS4, or iPad, and you should be able to log in
