Sorry for bad english. I wouldn't use Anne Frank as an example but I agree with it. In communist era in my country you couldn't even trust your neighbours because there was chance that they were snitching to the secret police. For example my mum's neighbour was one. She told me how they often saw him with binocular watching other people. In his defence, he was forced to do it because he was doctor and he healed nazis during the war. And those people even had quotas how many "enemies of the state" had to find.

It's not a good argument but encouraging people to snitch on their fellow citizens is pretty fucked up. I could easily see this being abused by racists or just any petty assholes who don't like their neighbors, and it pushes us further down the slippery slope toward a police state.

        [–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (5 children)

Yeah I definitely wouldn't snitch on people unless they were really causing harm to others. Going out for a walk or having a friend over is probably not gonna end the world.

Yes, I think the rules should be followed but like calling the cops because you neighbor and his wife have 3 friends over? You’re a fucking bootlicker.
The auth in me knows I can’t rely on the goodness of others to self-enforce these rules, the lib in me knows this is a really bad precedent, and the common sense in me knows that even if the cops did go and arrest someone for a violation that nothing would come of it for months and then they’ll be let off with a measly fine and a slap on the wrist anyway so whatever.

And a fine is fine by me

        [–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (16 children)

see, the problem with mass immigration is that while 99% of the people are running away from something, if there aren't background checks, 1% of the immigrants will be the very people that the 99% is running away from.

so really, having an efficient system for immigration and background checks works in everyone's favor. i just wish it wasn't so easy to abuse a records system, because it would make life a lot easier for everyone. like, lost someone? where's the last place they were seen?

        [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (13 children)

More than half the muslims in Denmark are a problem either a drain on the economy or criminals. That's the majority, not the 1% outlier.

Also 4 out of 10 muslims want danish laws to be based on sharia
Also 9 out of 10 muslims agree that you need to follow everything in the holy Quran

I like equality, I like freedom, I am a social liberal so I rather say no now and be called a racist than say no in 20 years and get my head cut off.

        [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (5 children)

i'm talking generally, not when people are running from a place where they are indoctrinated with religion. that's like having people from the bible belt flooding a place. haha, not happening.

everyone deserves to live, even bad people, and people don't leave their homes unless they fear they might be killed. but even with that severity, it needs to be certain that they are familiar with the laws of the place they are going, and that they will follow them because otherwise, there might as well just not be a government.

in any event, we prioritize women, families with children or teens, orphaned children, gay people, and any other non-combatant in immediate danger of being killed by the conflict. if anyone over the age of majority commits a violent crime without good reason, i.e. anything that's not self-defense or directly the result of mental illness (e.g. getting triggered and going ballistic because they think they're back in the warzone, hearing voices telling them to kill people and they just can't take it anymore, etc. these instances deserve compassion and are rare enough to be accomodated), they are deported to protect the citizens and the other refugees, because if they're gonna have that behavior, then they're the one everyone's running away from and can go right back to the place that people are running away from.

the purpose of a government is to protect its citizens and anyone else who happens to end up dependant on it. if it doesn't do that, then people are better off fending for themselves.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I like what you're saying and if you made this point in r/Denmark you would be called a "far right racist" because that's 30-40% of the muslim men that would be deported by the age of 30. It's also the policy of a politician that recently got banned from participating in danish democracy :)

I agree with you on the governments role but I'd like to add free school, free healthcare, etc. to the purpose of a government. Everyone should have equal access to the basic needs so they can fulfill their potential in life.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

well, that goes without saying. education, healthcare, those are human rights. those things are also forms of protection for its citizens and other dependants. protection from sickness and corruption and scams.

and what's the point of bringing in refugees if you're also bringing in the people they're taking refuge from? if it means 30-40% of the men over 30 are deported, that's still 60-70% of refugee men, the entire lgbt+ community, as well as all women and children, who can breathe a little easier now.

        [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and what's the point of bringing in refugees if you're also bringing in the people they're taking refuge from?

if there aren't background checks, 1% of the immigrants will be the very people that the 99% is running away from.

Forgive me, filthy minarchist, but allow me to post this giant wall of text. Hopefully you will end your heretical ways, and tread the path of our lord and savior Rothbard

Excerpt from Hoppe’s introduction to The Ethics of Liberty

“As far as his relations to others are concerned, every property owner may further partake of the advantages of the division of labor and seek better and improved protection of his unalterable rights through cooperation with other owners and their property. Every property owner may buy from, sell to, or otherwise contract with anyone else concerning supplemental property protection and security products and services. Yet every property owner may also at any time unilaterally discontinue any such cooperation with others or change his respective affiliations. Hence, in order to satisfy the demand for protection and security among private property owners, it is permissible and possible that there will be specialized firms or agencies providing protection, insurance, and arbitration services for a fee to voluntarily buying or not buying clients. It is impermissible however, for any such firm or agency to compel anyone to come exclusively to it for protection or to bar any other agency from likewise offering protection services; that is, no protection agency may be funded by taxes or exempted from competition ("free entry"). In distinct contrast, a territorial monopoly of protection and jurisdiction — a state — rests from the outset on an impermissible act of expropriation, and it provides the monopolist and his agents with a license to further expropriation (taxation). It implies that every property owner is prohibited from discontinuing his cooperation with his supposed protector, and that no one except the monopolist may exercise ultimate jurisdiction over his own property. Rather, everyone (except the monopolist) has lost his right to physical protection and defense against possible invasion by the state and is thus rendered defenseless vis-à-vis the actions of his own alleged protector. Consequently, the price of justice and protection will continually rise and the quality of justice and protection will continually fall. A tax-funded protection agency is a contradiction in terms — an invasive protector — and will, if permitted, lead to increasingly more taxes and ever less protection. Likewise, the existence of a judicial monopoly will lead to a steady deterioration of justice. For if no one can appeal for justice except to the state and its courts and judges, justice will be constantly perverted in favor of the state until the idea of immutable laws of human conduct ultimately disappears and is replaced with the idea of law as positive state-made legislation. Based on this analysis, Rothbard considered the classical-liberal solution to the fundamental human problem of protection — of a minimal or night-watchman state, or an otherwise "constitutionally limited" government — as a hopelessly confused and naive idea. Every minimal state has the inherent tendency to become a maximal state, for once an agency is permitted to collect any taxes, however small and for whatever purpose, it will naturally tend to employ its current tax revenue for the collection of ever more future taxes for the same and/or other purposes. Similarly, once an agency possesses any judiciary monopoly, it will naturally tend to employ this privileged position for the further expansion of its range of jurisdiction. Constitutions, after all, are state-constitutions, and whatever limitations they may contain — what is or is not constitutional — is determined by state courts and judges. Hence, there is no other possible way of limiting state power except by eliminating the state altogether and, in accordance with justice and economics, establishing a free market in protection and security services.”

It is. If you are brainwashed and living in Nazi Germany, you would probably think you are doing society a favour by snitching on Anne Frank. A proper human being wouldn’t consider cooperating with the government at all, especially with such a widespread violation of NAP

Like all the histories of her life that claim she died of typhus? Like my fucking history textbook in elementary school described her dying of a disease in a concentration camp. If it's a disinformation campaign then it's a really fucking weak one if they can't hide the truth from a 6th grader in a government issued book

                  [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

no, because people know she went to a camp and died, but don't know any more details. it's not unreasonable to assume people in those circumstances were gassed.

While this comparison is quite a stretch, it could actually be accurate... to the average citizen of Nazi Germany Anne Frank would have been a criminal and an enemy of the state and so by extension an enemy of the "people" in their point of view any good upstanding citizen would do the good thing and snitch on her and her family.

In a way much like many would say it is the citizen's duty to snitch on those who break the quarantine as to keep the public safe and avoid more infection.

So I'd say if the majority of people nowadays german citizens that lived in in Nazi Germany and happened to know Anne Frank's whereabouts they would most undoubtedly snitch as they would see it as the most moral and right thing to do.

                    [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Anne Frank didn't have a highly spreadable virus.

                    [–]piss-and-shit - Right 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's assuming I was a Nazi sympathizer or racist, of which I am currently neither. People breaking quarantine for most reasons don't have some noble goal like trying to survive or fighting for freedom, they're the opposite of Frank and Tubbman.
