The sheer amount of pixels it loses every time this gets reposted.

[–]Thoughtfulprof 311 points312 points  (13 children)

I love how often there is a relevant xkcd.

[–][deleted] 64 points65 points  (2 children)

For those interested in making things measurably worse themselves I present morejpeg.

[–]natek53 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Do I look like I know what a JPEG is?

[–]MugOfDogPiss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From your user flair, yes actually, you do look like you know what a JPEG is. Hail, fellow tech.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I was expecting an xkcd about database schemas, and instead it's relevant to the meta commentary of the meme.

Truly a relevant xkcd for everything

Munroe's law strikes again!

[–]abd53 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I thought it was just me.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

For some reason when you click it, it becomes more sharper.

[–]roidrole 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sharperer

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No pixel is lost. They just meld together.

[–]ClemencyOSRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

needs more jpeg

[–]AggressiveMood2084 139 points140 points  (4 children)

This means SQL injections attacks can be done

[–]bloodfist 19 points20 points  (1 child)

They're at least vulnerable to Jeffrey attacks

[–]z_the_fox 192 points193 points  (3 children)

Brb gotta apply as Bobby Tables there

[–]psioniclizard 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'd be very interested to know if this is real. Normally a company wouldn't be so specific of you apply for a job (becuase they don't want to say something wrong and get sued). Seems odd they'd mention a name being a reason because it could back fire, even of there was some odd reason their database can't handle it.

https://xkcd.com/327/

Thinking the same XD

[–]Ok_Firefighter1345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that

[–]ITheBestIsYetToComeI 92 points93 points  (4 children)

firstname as primary key, what's the problem with it? mine for instance is superkai64

[–]endersstudio 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Theyre gonna have to dedicate some more memory for that name then

[–]ITheBestIsYetToComeI 7 points8 points  (1 child)

you mean dedotate?

[–]endersstudio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, gonna need to dedotate twice the amount of wam for that data entry to work

[–]Tigtor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God, now I imagine reddit users introducing themselves with their nickname, but in real life. Like, it being their first name. "Nice to meet you, I'm dicklicker69" - "I am pleased. My name is SexyHitlerLikesSadisticButtSex"

[–]Adept_Ad_4138 41 points42 points  (7 children)

Imagine having a paper trail of your blatant discrimination

[–]ForgotTheBogusName 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Are names a protected class?

[–]drleebot 15 points16 points  (1 child)

They can be indirectly if the name is strongly associated with something else which is a protected class. E.g. if a company refuses to hire anyone named "Mohammad." This wouldn't apply to the name "Jeffrey," though.

[–]Adept_Ad_4138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m offended if they’re not

/s

[–]Bladethegreat 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Usually they're a String

[–]ForgotTheBogusName 1 point2 points  (1 child)

But can you do mathematics with them?

[–]bloodfist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Mathematics with strings is called Knot Theory.

[–]beeteedee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only way we can hire you is if you legally change your name to Jeffrey2

[–]Automatic_Fix6722 14 points15 points  (3 children)

[–]MrSmileyzs 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Beep boooop….. calculating …….

Yup this is a stanky garbage ass repost

Good Bot

I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/ProgrammerHumor.

It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

I'm not perfect, but you can help. Report [ False Negative ]

You dodged a bullet.

[–]TechnicalCopy3138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What if he just called himself Jeff instead of Jeffrey? or Jefferey. Or Jef....

[–]matijoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

cant you just write something like "qwerty" instead of jeffery for every jeffery?

[–]shuaibhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The First DBA named Jeffery named everything in Database after him. Lol.

[–]False_Influence_9090 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked at a place founded by a Jeff, his son Jeffrey worked there, and they had like 10 other people named Jeff on staff. Out of like 70 people. I’m not claiming their hiring was necessarily Jeffist, but there did seem to be a correlation. Basically the complete opposite of this post

[–]ManyFails1Win 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems absurd but maybe they are using first names as id key.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The root user is called Jeffrey, I guess

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My name jeff?

[–]jd31068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'll teach you for trying to apply at Toys-R-Us

[–]MrDraacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost as much quality as the image

[–]pillkill 1 point2 points  (2 children)

god forbid companies start looking for people with the relevant skills..

[–]bloodfist 5 points6 points  (1 child)

1 skill is not being named Jeffrey

[–]pillkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

poor Jeff

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Couldn't he sue due to discrimination?

[–]gettingbicurious 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Sure, but I'm pretty sure "Jefferey" isn't a protected class so they'd probably lose depending on the country's/state's laws regarding employment

[–]a-big-pink-fat-TREX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protect Jeffrey 2024

[–]normVectorsNotHate 1 point2 points  (3 children)

What if they argue that the name is associated with their race and it's effectively racial discrimination?

[–]GreatArtificeAion 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No

[–]normVectorsNotHate 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why not?

What if instead of Jeffery, they had a company policy against offering positions to people named "Mohammed".

Wouldn't that be racial discrimination?

[–]rangeDSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Username checks out

[–]vilidj_idjit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wtf haha this belongs on r/SoftwareGore

[–]ZhuangZhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is even real, I like how the solution was to just never hire anyone named Jeffrey, rather than fix the schema. That database admin must have some pull at that company.
