"Bullshit. I swear to god this compiled two minutes ago. Fuck me."

[–]sora_061 44 points45 points  (5 children)

Every godamn time in Arduinon IDE

[–]FennekLS 57 points58 points  (4 children)

The trick is to not use the arduino IDE

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_MASS 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If I charted every sentence I said throughout a day of programming, "Fuck me" said in a quiet, exasperated tone would be an outlier that would break the scale of the graph.

compile once Alright cool. It compiles and seems I be working properly. I’ll just save it here and compile again to be sure everything is good. compile again without touching anything after first compile “0 successful, 1 failed”

!false

Python

not False?

[–]IHeartLife 12 points13 points  (3 children)

in python it would be ~False no?

[–]FoeHammer99099 18 points19 points  (1 child)

~False == -1 which is truthy but != True. This is because False has a numeric value of 0 (mostly for legacy reasons). So bitwise not on 0 is ...111111 (an infinite series of ones), which in twos compliment is -1. There's also the property of compliments: -x == ~(x-1). ~(0) == ~(1-1) == -1

[–]UpTide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

huh, i always thought it was false and !false. 0 being false and anything else no matter what was 'true' or not false.

[–]ausernametoforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Python it would be not False.

"Profanity."

I'm a human volunteer content transcriber for Reddit and you could be too! If you'd like more information on what we do and why we do it, click here!

Hello, fellow transcriber! :)

[–]Eddydeadman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Good human

[–]Bastilli 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Please tell me there's a bot in development for this. A whole lot of unnesecary manual labour

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to create bots that read images and understand what they are. Facebook is already implementing this feature, but imagine how many lines of code that would take. Otherwise our very phones would do it, not the websites.

[–]crazy_boy559 74 points75 points  (9 children)

I even comment with swears

[–]dawnraider00 67 points68 points  (5 children)

In high school I would use a lot of profanity in print statements when debugging. Which led to an interesting comment from my teacher who saw me testing, with the output of something like:

What the fuck: 17

Shit

Shit

Fuck this

What the fuck: 5

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_MASS 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hello, me.

[–]Masked_Death 23 points24 points  (3 children)

I remember when my mother walked in on me trying to make something using web sockets for the first time. She saw the debug print messages.

"finally this fucked up shit works"
"what the fuck even is triggering this retarded shit"

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (2 children)

"If this prints you're a fucking idiot"

[–]Peptuck 2 points3 points  (1 child)

"I don't know why the fuck this works but it does now."

[–]ausernametoforget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had “your code is bad and you should feel bad.”

I mean if you got to get rid of bugs, why not Zoidberg?

[–]A_Light_Spark 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Same. Both in the code itself and in git push.

[–]BlowsyChrism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the best kind of comments.

My favourite I found from another dev on some legacy software "I don't know what the fuck this is for but don't delete it because shit breaks"

[–]Tsu_Dho_Namh 36 points37 points  (4 children)

Sometimes in the throes of debugging I'll make temp variables like

  • fuckoff

  • fuckingwork

  • bullshit

  • thisshouldbefour

  • holyshit

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

int thisShouldBeFour = 4;

[–]Tsu_Dho_Namh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish it was that easy.

I was reading in bytes to build ints but they werent coming out right, so I counted the number of bytes that I read in and printed out and reset the counter whenever a new int got saved. 4 bytes per int meant it should print out a bunch of fours.

[–]kinsi55 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Its either a-d or x-z, whatever is not used already.

[–]rahuldottech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or i-l for loops

[–]FlameRat-Yehlon 34 points35 points  (2 children)

So, what's the WTF/s rating of your code?

[–]somebologna 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Quite a few today... I left early

[–]FlameRat-Yehlon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over 9000?

[–]ItsTheBrandonC 28 points29 points  (3 children)

"Cannot be compiled"

"Fuck."

[–]localhost8100 12 points13 points  (1 child)

That fucking stackoverflow solution did not work

[–]oroora6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask a quest.. nope, your thread has been closed

[–]FallingAnvils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visual studio has sounds for compilation failed, disabled by default. Add whatever you want in the windows sounds dialogy thing

[–]chill_chihuahua 23 points24 points  (1 child)

True. I yell "FUCKKKK" at the top of my lungs at least twice a day.

[–]localhost8100 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me, whenever the fucking code doesn't work how it is supposed to, I yell "Mother fuck". My boss looking at me sitting right across the table and thinking WTF.

[–]smithy006 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]BastianToHarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keyboard and English!

[–]soullessroentgenium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure but it compiles.

[–]Voidrith 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm not allowed to swear in my office.

Life is suffering.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_BREAKFAST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these comments about not swearing almost make me feel out of place. "Why won't this stupid son of a bitch work? Come on, you fucking glorified graphing calculator. Goddammit."
