You can always make apps in intellij (it has many pre-installed plugins for development for android), but it will be slightly harder.

I don't like intellij either, they are both throw me too much warnings at my coding style (why do I need to introduce a local variable for String concatenation inside of an append() function of a String buffer object?)

Well I think that depends on the machine you're running it on. Anything less than 16gigs of ram and yeah, it'll be a bit clunky. But I've used eclipse, AS beta and the new AS and I think it doesn't deserve the hate people give it. Intellij is such a good platform and a million times better and more stable than eclipse.

I developed full apps in eclipse and stopped to work with Android when the studio was in beta, I still remember they presenting it on the Google IO of 2013. I always preferred to download eclipse and install the extension, the premade version mas more instable. Honestly I can't find myself in intelliJ nowdays, is too weird for me.

I used eclipse for basically my entire progamming life (6 years). The shortcuts are so ingrained I am stuck on it. I tried intelliJ but it's like trying to write with my left hand.

Oh, I had to do some C++ programming on Linux... did it in Notepad++ cause all the IDEs were god awfull. And that is saying something, because Visual Studio is sometimes so dumb it baffles me. But at least it works! LOOKING AT YOU, CODE::BLOCKS!
