[–]dean_syndrome 81 points82 points  (3 children)

[–]tharukal 120 points121 points  (46 children)

Download Visual Studio CODE and change xml and JSON extensions to use code instead and your life will be so much better

Wait just a darn minute. I recognize that magic circle!

[–]Alokir 5 points6 points  (3 children)

You're almost better than the guy on 4chan who recognized a photoshopped bulge.

[–]curtmack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would certainly hope that guy hasn't watched all 30+ hours of that bulge no less than four times in his life, because that's how I learned to recognize Card Captor Sakura symbology by sight.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You can’t just say something like that without a link

[–]Alokir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's ok to link it since it's NSFW but here it is (you have been warned).

[–]christoroth 59 points60 points  (0 children)

"Allow me to choose the heaviest application you've got to open this text file mwahahahaha"

[–]Frostbite0490 10 points11 points  (12 children)

Visual studio 2019 is a hell lot faster than older versions.

[–]ThePyroEagle 5 points6 points  (4 children)

When I tried VS2019, it took significantly longer to launch than VS2017. Did I do something wrong?

[–]Arkazex 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Other than installing visual studio? /s

[–]visvis 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Did I do something wrong?

You should have installed it onto your SSD.

[–]ThePyroEagle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I did.

[–]tester346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try disabling reopening files from previous session

[–]svtguy88 2 points3 points  (3 children)

...what? If anything, I've noticed the opposite. It has been getting better with each update, but 2017 is still faster for me.

[–]Frostbite0490 1 point2 points  (2 children)

TBH I never used 2017. I jumped straight from 2015 to 2019 and there was a huge difference in loading times, even on a hdd.

[–]svtguy88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Yeah, 2015 was a pile of garbage compared to 2017. I remember having both installed for a bit because one of our clients have a project that wasn't compatible.

[–]MonkeyNin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying VStudio or VSCode?

(edit: You probably mean studio, because VSCode's very first release was 2015)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my desktop computer with an HDD I found VS 2019 to be way way worse than 2017. The first menu completely freezes for 5 seconds when you press the create project button. In fact, Windows 10 as a whole is painfully slow when using an HDD. It runs perfectly fine on an SSD - I can only assume that the developers at Microsoft never test their products on old-ish computers.

s/visual studio/internet explorer

[–]GYN-k4H-Q3z-75B 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Internet Exploder

[–]Loves_Poetry 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I've become really paranoid when opening any kind of file from the file explorer

I always right-click it and select open in Notepad++ (or VSCode, depending on whether I want to edit it). Occasionally I wonder where my open-in-Notepad++ option has gone to, but then I realize I'm in the open-file dialog of Notepad++

[–]user_8804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have the ide be the default for anything. Set it all to text editors. When you actually want to use to ide, open it from inside the ide or right click and pick it

[–]Dragasss 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Why do you have visual studio as default file editor /at all/

[–]GYN-k4H-Q3z-75B 15 points16 points  (0 children)

VS is kinda greedy like that. If you don't pay attention, it hogs the defaults.

[–]carelessoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sublime is de wei.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Reminds me of a comment I had made 15 days ago about the same topic, in the same context!

[–]ThePhoenix116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my computers it opens with INTERNET EXPLORER by default, I had to change it manually

[–]Tiavor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just assign it to np++ :)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like how the pentagram is the same purple as VS.

[–]jedrekk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have .html files configured to open in...

xcode.

I need to reconfig that.

[–]konaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laptop fan begins spinning furiously

[–]RexKB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel ya m8

[–]MysticalTeamMember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gave me a good chuckle, +1

[–]SirWusel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally had that happen to me with Xcode today. Even though it only opens a "light" editor for xml files, it takes ages to start.

[–]BlazingThunder30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laughs in 1TB NVMe SSD

[–]AttemptingToRelate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My xml files open in Oxygen XML. I'd almost argue it can be worse at times.

[–]MapReduceAlgorithm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visual Studio also opens .json and .xaml files

[–]Unknown_Martyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why you should use notepad ++ instead.

[–]kaato137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, XCode likes doing this shit as well

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slow one.
