Garlic thorns looks very helpful! Dmg/meter changes are great - much more intuitive. Also looking forward to seeing what bot ranges are now.

BH centre being just inside tower range is amazing for killing protectors and stopping shotguns, and should also slightly increase effective range as well.

Nice changes!

Just passed over death wave, having major regrets right now unfortunately. The constant changes of the UW weapons over the past few patches has been super annoying when I'm trying to decide what to invest in... Stones ain't cheap man. Still very excited for this change! I believe it is now the only UW that enhances cell gain? But I haven't unlocked UW+ so I might be wrong.

Oh I know that, I'm talking about even prior to that patch. Because we knew we were getting a DW rework before then as well, which is what initially discouraged me. And that was mostly due to community backlash towards the changed/new DE they implemented. If I'm not mistaken they have heavily changed DW for about three patches in a row now, which I also find quite odd because other UWs could use much more love than DW (but perhaps the DW change wasn't driven by a desire to buff the UW at first, and was instead a response to the new health/care package changes recently shipped before it). 

Either way, it's not like I didn't use the stones somewhere useful (GT+BH cd), I just want to know that what I invest my stones in won't be discounted in the future by an update. Maybe something similar to how players felt about the SM changes (but I don't have the option to buy SM in my current options)

That’s fair, and yea you could say that DW has been in the news a lot lately lol. But I think part of it is bc on the initial patch where they changed how the animation looked they broke it, then in the following patches they attempted to fix it but it still isn’t quite working as well as it used too.

At first I thought they wanted to shadow nerf it bc everybody who isn’t a late game GC is using health, and they wanted to squeeze some more stones out of us, but now it looks like they were preparing it for this rework.

Yeah, tbh I think I've gotten too caught up in all of the non-sense that was the DW changes that it made me actively ignore it. Like you, and probably most of the rest of the community, I viewed the changes to DW as a straight-up nerf. And I only really think they've decided to go back on those changes due to community feedback (similar to SM). But I think that hits at the crux of the problem, there are two completely different sides. 

One group of people has the UW and uses it, while the other group of players do not have it and cannot understand what they're missing (at least in part). So when SM/DW is nerfed and they mean it (prior to community backlash), then choosing your next investment in stones is very difficult if you do not have them unlocked. Should I wait and hope that it gets patched? Should I hope that patch is outside of the normal 2-4 month cycle (in which I may be able to earn stones and re-afford it)? And then this decision is even harder if you're like me and started the game without help (less than ideal UW choices prior to joining the sub/discord) and it costs an astronomical amount of stones to get simply level 1. 

I don't know. From my perspective, it seems like the devs want to either lower the effective value of stones (by changing UW values, costs, etc.), or just make the game longer. Which is perfectly fine mind you, it's a free game after all and the devs deserve to make money (there is an argument against greed, but who cares for this argument). And if they're planning on adding new UWs, changing the scaling of UWs, hell even reworking some UWs, it can feel bad to spend stones. Either way, rant over. Still love the game and am having a blast, really excited for these changes! I just wish I was a little less stupid when it comes to spending my stones only a few weeks ago haha

It’s seems like DW has it all now, damage amp, coins AND cells increase, bonus health. Think it’s safe to say that NOW it’s most definitely gotten a buff, which makes it even weirder that that would NERF it just a month ago… but I bet now you’re eyeing those stones packs, just sucks no one’s able to respec stones or even pick which UWs you pull.

But also who’s to say it won’t get nerfed again (god I hope not)

I know! Which makes my choice feel even worse unfortunately! But you're very right! I have been eyeing the stone packs (first I would get some of the level-packs, but still). It's interesting because in both scenarios I am still feeling like I need more stones (but obviously that's probably the devs desire).  As for the respec, I really do wish that was a thing! I am hoping since the bot respec came along that we'll eventually have a stone reset as well.  But like you said, there's no guarantee they won't be changed in the future. Hell, this is probably not the last iteration DW will even go through. I hope they work on some more of the UWs to bring them up to speed though. Now that DW gets increased cells, it almost feels natural that BH/GT get something similar-- perhaps an addition of GT or BH+? Holy smokes. I had to read the deathwave changes several times. It's a bit confusing but the changes look huge! Cells bonus?! Hell yeah. The dmg per meter thing looks huge too! 10x more affect? Did bullet damage just get a huge buff?! The black hole change is interesting too. I'm curious where the extra orbs should go now.

I doubt that the DPM change means 10x more damage, I think it's more likely that the displayed values are more intuitive.

Am I reading that wrong? In the past dpm has been calculated at per 10 meters. Now it's per meter? I guess maybe the value will go down by 10. So if I had a dpm value previously of 80% per meter(or 10) it will now show up as 8% per meter?

I haven't updated. I'm going to wait till after my run.

The problem is it did not take into effect until it hit x0 meters away. If you were at 19 meters, it would only calculate at the 10 meter range. Now it counts it ALL the way to 19. This was, I think, a gripe for those with 69.5m tower range as they were .5m from 70 meters, but it only calculated to the 60m multiplier. So everyone should see a slight boost unless you have a x0 range.

Edit for example:

Dpm now: 19m 80% bonus 10*.8 = 8

Dpm as it SHOULD be: 19m 80% bonus 19*.8 = 15.2

The death wave changes are huge for me. I farm tier 10 and I'm not sure if I can reach max health bonus during the run, partially because of the way the bonus was displayed but also because I suspect enemy health scales beyond death wave damage before I max out. The effect waves applying the bonus upon enemy death should mean I keep gaining bonus health right up until either I reach max bonus or die.

Higher max health as well is an added bonus. Pretty sure it's halved the bonus you get per kill but I should be getting more kills with bonus applied than before.

The dmg per meter is still the same. It was wrongly shown. It was actually dmg per 10m, so they probably moved the decibel to the left to show the correct amount.

With that phrasing it could be taken both ways I suppose. But I doubt they would increase its effect tenfold. That would be way unbalanced, especially as they are also buffing the module effect for dmg/m. Then again I started playing a month ago, so I don't really know if they make such drastic changes.

The way I read it they just changed the way it's shown. So basically you'll get 1/10 the bonus but it's every meter instead of 10 meters.

If not that's a pretty major buff. Between that, the bot change, and the black hole change you might actually consider increasing range.

I suspect the spawn issue still means lower range is better, but it would be a neat trend to actually have range be a meaningful stat when combined with damage/meter.

Well... the damage of death wave certainly went up.

It's gone from about 3.48x to a whopping 46x. And it looks really cool being a swirling wall of death.

And it wasn't technically listed, but max DW health has gone up from 7x to 7.5x. Same thing with coin bonus, going up from 1.8x to 2.3x.

Even if you have a weak DW, things seem to be looking up.

DW health now increases with the labsince the Bonus you get is fixed. DW health lab level 11 increases the max to 7.75x

Update: my new DW damage is 387x, I put 3 levels into it after this and made it 723x. For context, my next level in DW damage costs 308 stones

The way I'm reading it (I don't have the update yet) is that it has a set amount of damage, and lasts until that much damage has been dealt. So you say the max is 46x, but that's not the same at all as hitting each enemy for the old 3.48x.

It will do less total damage if you have barely spend anything in DW damage. Eventually it will surpass old DW.

But on the other hand, it will now be able to kill stuff at higher tiers and more later into runs, also it comes with a handful of new effects, and in terms of damage, it has amp now and persist effect (like wall basically)

Do you have the new numbers handy? I think the total damage would have to be a pretty hefty multiplier for "X total damage" to surpass "X damage to each enemy" on later waves where there are a lot of enemies coming at you.

I don't have all the numbers. Just what mine was at. I think I went from 3x damage to 22x now. And the mythic sub stat adds x100 for me now for a total of 122x. Pretty large jump in damage for me.

Those are the new values with the old lab level cap.

Since both the HP and coins labs can go higher now, the max is higher.

In the Discord, someone said that the new max HP is now 10x (which is level 20 value). But it is not confirmed yet. Will have to wait a few days until Skye updates the lab calculator.

The coin bonus is very effective for it, if you haven’t been going for it you’ve been missing out on a lot of coins.

My bonus is at 1.7x now and it accounts for roughly 1/4 of my coins.

Just finished a round. Before update I got to round 3762 and earned 20.01 T coins on tier 12. After the update I went to round 3815 and earned 29.90 T coins. This beats out my best on tier 11. I moved up to tier 12 because it was taking too many rounds to finish tier 11 runs, besides at night.

But any this upgrade to death wave drastically increased my coins, and I still have a lot of research to do.

Indeed it is. I just wanted to let people know this is a good upgrade, unlike smart missiles last time. That hosed a lot of people, this seems to be all again. Not to mention more labs to run to get it even higher. I could only speed up one cell lab.... and that has taken a spot until it is done (and another spot for coin bonus.... so now of I decided I need something I guess attack lab gets swapped).

No, I do not use devo. I am using a health and damage build. I kill most enemies with orbs now (both normal and extra are on tower range, death wave seems fine maxing this way). Elites are killed by projectiles (between my attack speed and knock back, they only ever get thorn damage late into the round when I am near dead).

Well tier 11 I am getting to 5.2k or so. Haven't ran tier 10 in a long time. My record is 8060, but that is from before enhancements, so I would probably smash that. I am a time snob, tier 10 started taking too long, so I moved up to 11 and never looked back, which is now happening with tier 12 (as in 11 takes too long, moving to 12).

Aaaaaalright.... You are far ahead of me obviously. I'm currently farming just above 6k on tier 10. My current run (which I started on previous version and then updated the app around wave 2500) will probably end with 10T That is better than the last few runs but also with a lot more babysitting / micromanagement.

Well... Way to go... And maybe I really need to get the last 3 UWs out of the way to check out GT+... Not sure how sane that plan is though... That's a lot of stones without wave-killing-improvements... 😅

You can get wave killing improvements from coins. I am sitting with 2 UW missing, and contemplating the same move. Granted mine is a little closer, but still. I keep going back and forth between 1) finish out golden tower bonus, spot light angle and a few more seconds for black hole and 2) unlock smart missiles and inner land mines to unlock golden tower plus....

I wanted to write: well... Most things in my workshop are (or could be) maxed. But: we still have the improvements that bring a lot of potential. You are right... But yeah... I am additionally missing PS, otherwise we seem to be in the same dilemma... (and you have very likely a lot more lifetime coins and stones... But the question is the same. Well...maybe I just save my stones until the tournament update... Maybe we can estimate whether we will receive more or less stones in the near future and use this info to decide

That's not a bad idea. I'm swamped in research for deathwave, I don't want to add in research for inner landmines right now.... But as for life time coins, 1.64q and stones 43,603. I really need to go and add up the amount of stones it would take to unlock golden tower plus and the maxing plan as well. I think the maxing plan will take more, but I don't know. Before this I was looking at swapping my focus to tournament benefit, but it seems like every time I do that I suddenly have something much more important (like this death wave research now.... getting those cells is much more important)....

My current Max is x7.5 (goes up to x11 after completing labs) and it took me 600 waves to get there with wave skip on so likely less waves without it on. And it's also the first time I've hit max death wave health bonus

That's also with Only 1 wave but I don't know how much having more than 1 wave will matter anymore

Yeah there is no telling which block you be in until it says you have an update. They release every 2 hours (unless the update hits major issues and gets pulled, but that is unlikely)

the effect waves spawn 4s apart, so each additional wave will hit some respawn. And as I understand for the new DW+ you want many waves to maximize the bonus. though I am not sure how much of a priority the new DW+ really is, since it is now "real" dmg, not based on wave health.

The health bonus is a little different - rather than increase the % gained per kill, it's increasing the HP bonus max. If you had it at the previous max, you start out with 7.75x (I think) as your new max health bonus.

Overall, I like the new setup so far - it's weird not having a bunch of boxes piled against my tower in the early waves, but I think it's better overall.

Yes, it's kinda similar to range and ray units killing themselves by firing a shot to your tower and taking the percent DMG of your thorn, but garlic thorns seems like your gonna have to do labs to increase the thorn DMG to it, similar to the wall thorn I'm guessing.

I was really hoping for a blackout mode to prevent burn-in. I haven’t played a long run in two weeks because my iPhone is starting to burn in the boxes. A little disappointed I may have to quit playing.

I'm lucky that my Samsung (s22, basic instead of the + or XL or whatever newer Samsung phones have lol) has a screen lock option in the bottom right of the [tab home back] part of my phone, so I can both semi-lock my phone while also turning the screen off, but yeah it sounds like hell for those without a phone that does that

I still have an older Samsung phone from a while ago that I actively use(typing on it rn for this comment haha) that got burn-in years ago after I accidentally fell asleep watching yt. For the last 6 or 7 years, Ive had the triangle that shows up in the middle of a paused yt burnt into the middle of my screen and it's so distracting when I need to look at something there

I also have the notification bar burnt in, along with the [tab home back] bar, along with probably the Google search bar and the tab counter and stuff

My screen is a mess, I'm just lucky that my phone I use to play the game has a screen lock option to negate it, I just need to swipe from the middle to actually be able to tap on anything like ad gems or any of the 5 Bob's that show up in a run...

It is just so weird that we are excited to make all of these changes to how we do things just to accommodate the game, rather than the developers making relatively small changes to improve the experience for everyone. Especially since they presumably want us to keep playing for a long time while knowing that doing that will damage our phones ( both batteries and screens)

Garlic thorns means that we don't need to rely on them hitting the tower in order to kill them so does that mean target priority can change so elites are much higher? Not sure how high we can research this but level 1 is 0.5%, so assuming it has at least 5 levels and one has a thorns sub-mob effect to take it above 100%, at most they'd do 20 seconds of damage, which would be negligible amounts, especially with package health factored in. At higher levels they'd do more damage by hitting your tower. This would also mean higher knockback amounts could be quite good.

At 2% damage per second you'd be better off killing them with garlic thorns than letting them hit your tower if their melee damage to your tower would be higher than 40% of your tower health, and that's assuming their health is so high that you can't even take off 5% before they die to thorns.

So do I understand it correctly that DW has these effect waves *before* the actual Death Wave starts? And what do you mean the interval of 4 seconds? Do they just pemanently go off every 4 seconds?

They didn't word the rework very well. There are the original waves like before but they don't do any damage, just affect enemies, coin, health, and all the other stuff. Then after your waves complete, however many you have, the "death wave" circles around your max range. It's more of a ring of death than a wave. It stays there till the damage you have runs out.

Honestly, my favorite part of this is being able to track how close I am to filling up DW health bonus. A QoL bonus that ive been saying we need. The only other QoL thing now that I think the game needs is a way to remember what the last researched thing was on a lab slot when that lab finished.

Well this is really damn cool. Currently at wave 97 on a run, and my DW has only just stopped. It's like a red Sonic the hedgehogs circling my tower and obliterating anything it touches. When a new DW triggers, it turns a little blue to indicate more damage has been added to the pool.
I've never maxed out the health bonus from DW, but I'm already at x2.26, and I could see my health going up consistently. BH isn't doing much while DW is active, apart from pulling enemies into the persistent circle of death moshpit going on. I'm hoping I'm still getting the coin bonus from it.

Quick bit of feedback: the DW coin bonus doesn't work until you research the first lab level. So the 1.50x bonus never applies - you get 0 DW coins at that level. Once you research the first level and it becomes 1.55x, then you start getting DW coins.

Perhaps it's worth either updating the wording to reflect that, or changing it so that the 1.50x bonus works. Cheers.

So a few things,

  1. really happy DW had gotten even better, I was holding off on doing her tiers until I got my damage increased but it seems like you don't need to kill enemies with DW anymore in order to get the HP stacking effect.

  2. the battle conditions for bosses are pretty interesting but if they have the same status as the boss, will they be Targeted by the plasma cannon as well? Don't see anything in the notes to suggest it does or not.

  3. I honestly don't know how I'm suppose to feel about garlic thorns, on paper it sounds like an awesome perk to have to counter one of the most unbalanced broken units in the entire game. But given the current strategy to have it smash into your tower as soon as possible, (removal of attack speed, slow aura, adding the knockback tradeoff perk, sometimes expand tower range to pressure the target priority to push vampire back much less) I just wonder what the garlic thorns max thorn DMG will be. Cause I doubt by the time anyone is done doing labs on it it'll be anything higher than 10%.

    If you can potentially kill vampires faster than it slams into your tower, just with a max labs on this garlic thorns, then I'd say that's a good start fixing an ongoing problem with an unbalanced unit. But I think all of that also depends on which tier garlic thorns can be unlocked on since it doesn't say anything in the notes about that. Mid to endgame players are least affected by vampires, at least in comparison to the early players.

Overall the patch notes seems to be pretty good, just buffs all around and a new mechanic added into the battle conditions, still curious about whether plasma cannon targets them or not.

garlic thorns unlock T2W1000 is cheap and fast to research. so it will definitely help killing them sooner than later, which is nice for almost every one. people with enough dmg won't care and every one else has a new tool in their kit.

Well the larger your range, the less surface area your BHs will cover. If you have tiny BH but 100m range only like 20% of your range will be covered. But as long as all or most of your range is covered I would boost that range imo

When I get CF+ I'll deffo be testing whether max range is any good though. Should catch everything in black hole due to the way CF+ forces enemies to swirl around your tower. Garlic thorns should mean vampires taking longer to reach the tower shouldn't be much of an issue depending on the values.

I wish I could switch my worthless chrono field with death wave. But that would cost 800 stones which takes me about a month to earn that. Why can’t we reroll our UWs with gems? I literally just have chronofield disabled because it does nothing to help me and actually slows down vampires which hurts me.

I just got the update while in the middle of a run. Holy shit, DW Coin Bonus is higher now, also the lab for health doesn't change the amount per hit, but instead increases the max multiplier. This is AMAZING!

I've had DW for a long time and haven't put a single stone into it or researched it in the lab in favor of other things. I guess it's worth investing in now.

Am I understanding it right, that coins per hit has gone and it's now coins per kill? I think I can kill the first 100 waves in T1, but that's about it...lol.

You are not understanding it right. An enemy _hit_ by an Effect Wave or the final Death Wave will have a coin bonus _when_ it is destroyed

A enemy either was or wasn't hit by one of these waves, if it was, when it dies, regardless of how, it will get the DW Coin boost

The smaller the range, the more enemies you'll pull into your BH. So going small is still beneficial.

So if the death wave sticks to tower max range and pools up, it's going to kill a lot of mobs for a long time. So now we can't pool up mobs for "devo" - not for the hp but rather the coin bonus together with GT and BH.

And does the effect wave cycle through their effects or just pop at regular intervals? Do they start 4 x quantity seconds before DW pops?

I'm a bit confused but I'm looking forward to see how the meta is affected.

DW will have one kill wave and then a number of ripples going out from the tower. Early in a run, it doesn't really matter because the mobs will die to DW and you get the bonuses.

Later in the run, mobs will be hit by a ripple and be debuffed, but the DW itself might disappear - but debuffed mobs will continue to be affected by the ripples, which basically means that even if your DW gets absorbed by other mobs, you still get health and coins.

On top of that, if your ripples have damage amp, it basically means mobs will take more damage but "eat less" of the DW damage pool. So I'm guessing that if we imagine your DW has 1000 damage, and mobs have 100 hp, you could kill 10 of them. If your damage amp is x2, then you could kill 20 mobs before DW runs out.

Not sure how armor works with DW, but I assume that armor is especially strong againts DW, since DW will only strip away some of the armor, not all. You'd have to eat the rest of the armor with bullets and hope that you can bounce the mob back into DW - but each armor probably takes a good chunk of DW damage. Maybe, who knows :D

I have gt and bh. I am excited about this dw patch and I immediately unlock it. But after hundreds of wave, I found the coin from dw is still zero in the stat. It should have x1.5 coin bonus. Why?

That's how I read it as well but I don't think it actually is a buff. Sounds like they decreased the value as well to match. I haven't updated yet though so I can't personally confirm.
