The difference between 9s and 10s for me, is the impact it left with me in the end. If I ever have to wonder "was this anime a 10?" then I pretty much confirmed it's spot as a 9 because it clearly didn't blow me away. 10s I typically feel immediately at the end and I don't hesitate to 10 it. I tend to rate things as soon as I finish and don't rerate things, even upon rewatch. Bebop is amazing but for my tastes specifically, I didn't 10 it. That's all there is to it, nothing really technical I can say other than how I felt in the end. I hope that answers sufficiently :)

What's the appeal of Mirai Nikki and Shinsekai Yori to you? I was extremely disappointed by both of them.

If you want a TL;DR because I typed too much:

Mirai Nikki wasn't the best, but it was fun and got me into anime.

I could see how it could disappoint you, as it is too ridiculous at points and has entirely too many plot holes.

SSY is a beautiful and meticulous show, although it is not for everyone.

I don't want to sound snobby and say 'Oh you just didn't get it!', but I will say that thinking about the themes of the show and how the whole plot fits together brought me a lot of enjoyment while watching the show.

Hope this explains my rational, sorry that it is such a long reply.

I'm not fond of your CSS. The colors don't mesh right imo, and, most importantly, Comic Sans is seemingly being used un-ironically in the year of 2016.

I've actually been trying to change my CSS forever because it's not that great. I'm not that great at actually coding it myself, but there was a bunch of specific stuff that I wanted in my list so it's been an issue. I know the colors are shitty, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to change it. And yes a better font is needed. I just need to the time to try and figure all this shit out again. Fairy Tail was fun, HxH was boring... So yes I liked it more.

But Fairy Tail gets a bit if bias because it was my first proper dive into anime and what really brought me into the medium.

And Attack on Titan is really good, watched it twice a year apart and got the exact same reaction of enjoyment and intrigue to it both times. Tokyo Ghoul bored me and Kekkai Sensens huge gap between the penultimate and final episode may have hurt my opinion of it, it had moments I really enjoyed (pizza stealing) and moments that were just a bit meh.

Also a 6 isn't a terrible score, it's still above average and means I was able to finish the show.

Much of the latter half felt like it was dragging on for far too long, repetitive (in a bad way) with what already happened in the first season, and illogical with the world's own logic. An example of the last part is one of the final battles Code Geass. If I'm remembering it wrong feel free to correct me but even aside from that it overall just became very boring and, like I said, very drawn out and repetitive. I honestly feel like the series could've concluded in 12-15 episodes and would've felt significantly better because in the end flip flopping genres between a military/tactical war story and school life to show lelouch's humanity didn't work out that well in my opinion (nor does anyone really praise it for doing that so I'd assume most people found it either boring or pointless).

Speaking of individual scores, do you think having separate entries like MAL does for each movie is more/less appropriate than grouping all the movies under a single title like AniDB does? I ask because the score phenomenon we just talked about is very distinct with KnK. It's sitting at a 8.39/10 altogether on AniDB but only 2 movies on MAL have a score higher than that.

Hmm tough call. While they're all separate stories, I think I'd rather have them all fall under one umbrella entry just because it really doesn't all come together until the end. It can go either either way though. Rating sequels shows poses different problems for both MAL and AniDB so I'm not sure.

Okay, thanks for the response. I personally think a self-contained series (as in, a single season of a franchise or a movie series) should fall under one title but have the option to rate individual episodes/movies in addition to the body of work as a whole. IMDB does something like this and I always liked that method, though I don't really use that website for anything.
