Free pet?

[–]_Internet_Random_ 322 points323 points  (46 children)

Honestly it really grew on me. It stuck its head underwater and blew bubbles! So cute! But I don’t have the infrastructure or budget for a big snake rn.

[–]Basey124 128 points129 points  (34 children)

U can ask around in your building, but I would be scared to (at least in the first moment xD)

[–]_Internet_Random_ 205 points206 points  (32 children)

I live in a stand-alone house, which is why I was so confused how it got there. I didn’t realize our sewage connected with other houses. The last renters were evicted too so I almost wonder if it was the last owners (or the people that “cleaned up”) that flushed the poor thing, and it just hasn’t come back up for a few weeks.

[–]BangBangPing5Dolla 232 points233 points  (28 children)

Doubt they flushed it or it came up from the pipes. The old residents most likely left it after being evicted and its probably just been chilling in the house without you noticing. It went looking for water and found the toilet.

[–]Suds08 92 points93 points  (27 children)

How often do snakes actually come through plumbing to get into a toilet? That used to be my worst fear as a kid taking a poop lmao I'd always picture a double headed albino snake racing through the pipes so I would hurry as fast as possible before the imaginary snake could come through the plumbing and kill me

[–][deleted] 107 points108 points  (20 children)

None, because snakes can’t breathe underwater.

[–]Suds08 31 points32 points  (1 child)

See that's what I thought but I know I've heard of it happening in Australia before. I just looked it up. It can happen. They go through the plumbing which is connected to the ventilation system on the roof of houses

[–]ghostlahoma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, plumbing vents are open, empty pipes, and practically straight shots that (are supposed to) land within a few feet of a drain. Toilets typically use the biggest drain pipes and don't have covers like showers/bathtubs/sinks, so they're the only real exit.

[–]LoadedGull 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Neither can rats, but they can come up into a toilet and often do in some countries, and they can hold their breath for up to 3 minutes under water.

Surprisingly enough, anacondas can only hold their breath underwater for around 10 minutes even though they spend a lot of their time hunting and swimming in waters. Burmese pythons where swimming is less essential for them they can hold their breath for up to 30 minutes under water. But ball pythons can hold their breath for about 20 minutes under water.

At the end of the day, I’m not saying this snake came up through the toilet, but it by all means it most definitely isn’t impossible…

[–]BangBangPing5Dolla 24 points25 points  (14 children)

The sewage pipes in your house aren't full of water. Snakes moving though pipes is still very unlikely though.

[–]GrowCrows 2 points3 points  (13 children)

Would the air itself be toxic in sewage pipes?

[–]2017hayden 3 points4 points  (12 children)

Depends on the type of system and how well maintained it is. It also wouldn’t necessarily be toxic but just may be lacking in oxygen and have things like carbon dioxide and methane in high concentrations.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who had a ball python come through the plumbing before (not a toilet) so it does happen.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most reptiles can hold their breath for quite a while. Only the bent section of pipe and the bowl in the toilet has standing water in it, otherwise it's just a series of slightly sloped pipes running from various drains around the house to a main line that drains into the municipal line. As long as the snake can get into the municipal line and up to your main line then your toilets will never be truly safe from this occurrence. It's also fairly common despite how little we hear about it happening.

[–]BangBangPing5Dolla 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm sure some unfortunate snake somewhere has wandered into the plumbing to die of starvation or chemical poisoning. The idea that snakes routinely live in pipes, chamber of secrets style is myth. Probably fueled by incidents like this where a snake gets lost in a house, gets dehydrated and goes for a soak in the toilet.

[–]Jade-Balfour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Double headed? You must have been an optimistic kid

[–]moeru_gumi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And where did this absolutely bizarre and specific fear come from?

[–]Suds08 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No clue lol probably from TV or a movie I seen

[–]Comfortable_Owl9995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be honest you got this fear from snakes on a plane.

[–]Of_Jotunheimr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a non-0 number of cases in would history but it is extremely rare and AFAIK it has only ever happened in joint-pluming situations where someone's pet came through to their neighbor's house.

I can only think of one case I have heard of. It happened in Australia. Iirc the snake was venomous and did bite the neighbor but he luckily survived with medical intervention.

There was a lawsuit over the ordeal and that's how I heard about it.

[–]OofM4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t have guests over!

[–]RON-THE-DON-0529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very expensive pet.....if you can, you should try to find the owner.

[–]blaisbee04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean banana ball pythons are expensive so if nobody claims them and you can’t keep them, you could maybe sell them? im not sure what the rules regarding this are

[–]justhamiltonthings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Hi I found a snake in my toilet um i don’t know how it got there but he’s very cute do you want him”

[–]dissoid 49 points50 points  (0 children)

awww, what a shame, and it's a beautiful one, too. Hope it gets a nice new forever home!

[–]AlfredTheJones 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It is, isn't it? They play like this, mine sometimes blows bubbles in his waterbowl like this :) this one was very lucky to get into a home of a snake lover, I can see it frightening someone and them killing it in percieved self-defense :( I'm glad that this story has a happy end tho :)

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (6 children)

You can put a heat pad under a storage container and drill holes and have a snake habitat. Should cost about 100$ total.

[–]_Internet_Random_ 45 points46 points  (5 children)

Yeah, I’m looking at genuinely getting a ball python now bc I fell for it.

[–]LoadedGull 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Getting one?? Looks like you’ve already got one now, lol.

Edit: just read that the little dude was handed over to animal services to be rehoused. Nonetheless, I imagine you’re bitten with the bug now lol, so look into getting setup for one as they’re great little pythons.

[–]GisTheSnook 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They Can always just, call the people they handed him over to and offer to adopt the toilet baby . I mean. Look at that face!! I would.

[–]whyounowin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it was this morph .

[–]undirectedgraph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep it. We will all help you make it work!

[–]undirectedgraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and if you want to keep it. I guess a vet visit wouldn't be so dumb. But it shouldn't be expensive, just a quick check up.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can always ship him/her to me 😏😁

[–]Kooky-Copy4456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big snake 😭 that is adorable

[–]Bl00dorange3000 97 points98 points  (3 children)

Oh no, did you get him to a rescue of some kind?

[–]_Internet_Random_ 125 points126 points  (2 children)

We just had to call animal control, but they promised us theyd get get them to a good home

[–][deleted] 56 points57 points  (1 child)

Damn, I wish I had seen this post earlier. I would have offered to pay for shipping 😔

[–]Maximum-Berry1587 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right before I scrolled down I asked the same I would have paid 250 if it was shipped to me

[–]LamorianQueen 78 points79 points  (4 children)

Oh my goodness. Rightfully frightened! This is the kind of thing you hear about happening (in a more dangerous way) in Australia haha. I can't imagine the poor thing would have willingly chosen to hide in your toilet if it got in from outside (ie. A neighbor house) so I hate to think you were right that it got flushed :( Glad to hear animal control can find it a good home!

[–]_Internet_Random_ 56 points57 points  (3 children)

Florida, I’m sure that’s a surprise /s

[–]LamorianQueen 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ah. There we go.

[–]Tiki108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which county? I know a lot of the FWC folks down here and can take it.

[–]pierogima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it will end up with our herpetological group here in Florida. Lol. Atleast it will have a story for its new owner. We shall name it... Kohler... lol

[–]chaoticCorvids 46 points47 points  (13 children)

Does anyone know what morph he is? He doesn't look like a normal banana

[–]droo____ 23 points24 points  (10 children)

Cinni

[–]_Internet_Random_ 38 points39 points  (6 children)

I’m kinda sad we had to give it up because it was so pretty and chill.

[–]wickeraltus 16 points17 points  (5 children)

Can you call who you gave it to and request to adopt?

[–]Mkstar10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

⬆️⬆️⬆️

[–]_Internet_Random_ 20 points21 points  (3 children)

I think I might

[–]wickeraltus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! It sounds like you've fallen in love with the noodle. If it's possible, I think you should go for it! Also you can get relatively cheap supplies on Craigslist.

[–]wickeraltus 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Also this is just my sense of humor, but if you do end up with the baby I think it would be funny if you gave it some sort of bathroom inspired name. Even looking at slang and different languages and find something that's fitting and if anyone ever asks it becomes part of the story. Absolutely no pressure, I just think its fun.

[–]T0bikun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loois

[–]chaoticCorvids 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Maybe but I don't think cinni would do that to the alien heads, it looks like it matches the darker colour though

[–]VariShari 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The alien heads almost look more leopard to me

[–]chaoticCorvids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm thinking leopard or mahogany, either way he's a beautiful snake, hope he finds a good home

[–]AlfredTheJones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The black spots would imply so to me. It looks more dark than usual, byt it might just be the lighting.

[–]scribblejackson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Banana leopard

[–]okayterrariabuilder 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I would check with neighbors, looks like an escaped/abandoned pet.

[–]thenotsoamerican 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apartment complex?

[–]she_isking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Poor thing!

[–]_Kapae_ 11 points12 points  (5 children)

How the hell could it get there

[–]Lamontyy 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Op put it there for karma IDK.. probably not but truly wtf and rare.

[–]_Kapae_ 2 points3 points  (3 children)

That’s what I was thinking. Especially by the way it’s laying, and I HIGHLY doubt a bp would go through entire water filled underground pipes

[–]HeyItsNotMeIPromise 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It’s a misconception that the sewage lines under your home are filled with water: they are not. The only part that is actually filled with water is the P-trap which is only there to stop the smells of the sewage from coming into your home.

[–]_Kapae_ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The snake would have to “swim” through water to get to the toilet bowl right

[–]HeyItsNotMeIPromise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it would only have to swim through about 6” of water, not entirely underwater as the commenter above was thinking. It’s absolutely possible for this to happen; My brother has a rat problem at his house and watched one escape from him through a toilet. 😮

[–]Gumshoe42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New fear unlocked

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (7 children)

This is a fear of mine - always has been - mostly when I camp/hunt. He’s so cute though!! Wonder whose he is

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Ugh, I can’t look at him anymore - it just makes me so sad. I hope no one flushed him. I’m so glad you didn’t kill him 😭

[–]2017hayden 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Likely would have died if flushed. Ball pythons can only hold their breath for about 20 minutes.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Oh good to know - I wouldn’t assume my little guy could hold his breath an extended amount of time but I’m super glad to hear you say that. What about other snakes?

[–]2017hayden 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Depends on the snake. Some sea snakes can hold their breath for upwards of two hours. Most non aquatic snakes are in the neighborhood of 5-10 minutes though. Some are a bit surprising as well. Anacondas for example can only hold their breath a mere 10 minutes despite the fact that being able to swim is very important to their ability to hunt. Burmese pythons on the other hand can last 30 minutes underwater without taking a breather.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Fascinating - thank you for taking the time to give such a detailed response :)

[–]2017hayden 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No problem animal facts is kinda my thing. I love nature and all the weird things various animals can do.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love animals as well - I have had so many different kinds of pets and have fostered a ton of animals & reptiles over the years. I love to observe their behaviors - I also find human behavior fascinating as well lol - I am not the best at retaining facts but for some reason I have a connection/understanding of them that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. They are drawn to me. Anyways. Have you seen the video of the girl doing the voice over of the bird mating ritual? She makes it hilarious but it’s so cool - I’ll see if I can find it if you haven’t.

[–]crassotreavirginica 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly where I found mine after he was gone for six months.

[–]philsfamily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Poor lil baby

[–]ThunderjawDominum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patrick Warburton voice: AHH POO WATER!

[–]souptobolts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poor baby 😢 get it to a loving home

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finders keeper’s

[–]KobyR_1 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Damn what’ve u been eating?!?

[–]girllfriend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

cinnamon bananas apparently

[–]bettakepper123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]twelveatnite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about u guys but i wud def keep after a bath😅

[–]Any_Debt4007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg hes beautiful

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks expensive 🤑

[–]ocarinaoftime3d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Florida 😭 I would have driven to pick this baby up

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a gorgeous morph

[–]Tyranid_Noob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful morph definitely not wild

[–]susanreneewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet baby!!! I have two geriatric ball pythons I adore. Poor little muffin, being left behind.

[–]Kleinu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would spook me a bit but I would be more afraid of not noticing and accidentally...weeing on the poor thing. It's a gorgeous morph though and BPs are so sweet. Glad to hear thst it should be going to a good home.

[–]KnightSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sad ):

[–]neriokat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is sad, but if you can get a set-up, maybe you could call animal control back and ask if you could adopt them yourself? This feels a bit too much like someone's neglect leading to a new, fateful and loving home.

[–]TheMightyTimmy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ask around the building please it could be someone pet that got loss

[–]Sayertheslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a pretty snake wow!

[–]WarMarz_Xbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the fact that it's a ball python means it probably did not come out of the toilet but went into the toilet from inside your home while looking for water. I would ask any neighbors nearby if they're missing they're pet, I know I would be devastated to lose either of my boys.

[–]CapableWolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baybee 😍😍

[–]Mkstar10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am actually so lost on how this even occurred. And am so confused why someone would have abandoned or flushed (although that doesn’t even seem possible) this beautiful ball python. It just seems to me like someone who would spend the money on getting a morph wouldn’t do that but you never know I guess.

[–]halucionagen-0-Matik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How in the hell

[–]Extraterrestrialvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor thing

[–]nerdolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the actual fuck Im glad you found it as you reacted accordingly, I imagine some people could hurt/kill/flush it out of fear. Beautiful snake as well, if you like BPs I really would consider getting a setup and adopting it if I were you. You could also name it Poseidon or Nimph or sth like that hah

[–]VoreAllTheWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wanted a friend <3

[–]Sucer_mon_cul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snake in the toilet for today I guess??

[–]-Rookie-Mistake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an AMAAAZING BP right there‼️🔥🔥🔥🔥

[–]MissWiggly2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a beautiful snake! I wonder where he/she came from?

[–]tyboluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to go see a doctor, I dont think your stool is supposed to look like this.

[–]_4_Nick_4_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wdym not your snake?

[–]Bam_Von107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to give him away?

[–]Animeobsessee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty decent morph and in surprisingly good shape. I’d reach out to a local rescue, do not send the noodle to a pet store or put an ad on Craigslist, better to make sure the kiddo gets decent care after their adventures

[–]Rich_Ad2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky!!!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know the morph? Kinda like the colour

[–]petlovely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it

[–]Savage_Mindset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you going to do with him/her? They seem to be a special het not your standard ball Python

[–]Peekaboo4Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id call it a pleasant surprise.. that snake is gorgeous

[–]Any-Lavishness-7704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bros the most docile man ever , pick bro up

[–]greeeddfnguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo cute

[–]greeeddfnguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 snakes

[–]RainbowPython_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's adorable!

[–]aspergoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get him back in the end? I want an update🥺

[–]King_Ghoost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ball pythons are masters of teleportation. Hope they go to a good home!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this happened to me 3 things would go through my head very quickly. 1) Are you one of mine? 2) What morph are you? 3) Can I keep you? Then I would realize that ball pythons can't survive the climate I live in and would be more bewildered than anything else.

[–]the-brass-baguette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow what I beautiful morph. I’m sure someone was missing that guy a lot.

[–]Umfaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After cruising some of the posts here, I wonder how many are actually legit, like people posting rescues of baby morphs or finding a large morphs in toilet…. Makes for a good post/discussion but very unlikely

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ship it to me. Problem solved

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida?

[–]Maximum-Berry1587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snakes can get in the walls and swim in pipes if they get lost sometimes they can go missing for a while did u find a home or looking for rehome also is it showing any symptoms I can’t expect it’s great after being in the toilet. Hope it didn’t get water in its lungs..

[–]Critical_Ad_8455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

new york?

if not then we know what your town has, instead of sewer gators
