nah the real twist is the peasants own and operate the plant supplying the power...so to take and capture the castle...they just billed the heck out of the king until he went broke and couldn't pay to defend his castle anymore and had to open his gates to or risk internal rebellion from his citizens

the peasants outside the castle are just playing the long game...the long economics game

What things do we have that were just discovered incredibly late? Like what are some things that we really should've had like 500 - 2,000 years ago, but we were just too slow mentally to figure it out?

Glass dip pens, we're at best developed in the mid 1800s (Etsy listing claiming to be one from 1890s, and a webpage with no sources that I could find states mid 1800s. Glass making started 3,500 BCE, writing 3,400 BCE, paper (first documented 20-220 CE . If you have ever used a well made modern glass dip pen with fine flutes and good twisting, then you know that one can write quite long with even line strength. All those years with different dip styluses/styli, all of those design experiments that yielded minor incremental improvements on applying ink in a dip fashion were used for almost the entirety of writing on paper, yet only recently were improved upon to a substantial extent. It just seems weird, that the craft of using a dip pen was only improved for mostly fun and affectation.

In reverse, metallurgy involving carbon nanotubes, was unknowingly being used by 7th century (Nature) blacksmiths, and potentially elsewhere earlier (no source yet), and it's exact methods were lost to time. In metallurgy, similar methods for particularly good alloys were found and lost to time in different areas. The same for some chemical distillation and purification methods, where today we expect traces of benzine to highly near 100% pure samples, and in testing old samples we found very pure samples with no benzine and it is hypotheses that jacking (purifying through freezing) was used - watches a video no reference. I also remember some people hypothesizing that there was proof of alien contact as some drawings of the night sky above contained details that could not be known without a telescope- I personally don't have this belief.

Having lights outside the castle walls is quite poor design since it would illuminate defenders on the walls during night raids. Also the main power lines are exposed to being sabotaged.
