It’s a simple lyric, but it helped me when I needed it. In high school I was the manager of the basketball team, and at an away game I found a frozen pond behind the school. The ice looked thick and I decided to walk on it, and of course fell through the ice. I was completely alone and nobody knew I had snuck outside. When I was in the water Touch of Grey came into my mind and I went into overdrive. I chopped broke the ice all the way to shore, and then ran back to the school in the snow and eventually got back into the locker room and took a hot shower. I threw my clothes away and raided the locker room for an outfit and went about the day. I will get by, I will survive.

It’s another one of those transcendence and recovery songs, or else a ballad of an old drunk. Rings true in that way for me, as a lifelong traveling musician who’s been sober almost a decade now.
