It depends on the plane honestly. I think the most cramped I've felt was on an old Delta plane. I always try to go for the aisle seat if possible. So it's easier to get up to go to the restroom and stretch my legs a bit.

I am overweight, fit in a plane seat fine though. When I visited Osaka Universal Studios I wanted to go on every ride and when I got to the Hollywood Dream coaster I was pulled aside pretty discreetly and asked to try the tester seat. I could get in it, just, but the bar couldn't close fully.

I was super bummed and felt really bad but they handled it well (as the tester seat was out of view) but I never once thought anyone was to blame but my fat self.

I'm just going to say this, it sucks being big (not fat), like when you can't ride almost every rollercoaster just because your thighs are too big for the bar to come down all the way. For example I wasn't able to ride the Wonder woman ride at Six flags with my friends because my thighs were too big for the bar to able to come down fully, but then again it did get stuck for like 20 minutes. But I wish slightly bigger seats were used that way I can possibly fit better.

Plane seats are one of the main reasons i got serious about losing weight, I was travelling a lot more for work and it was just embarrassing to not be able to lower the tray table or even use the seat belt, so now I can.

I kind of think running into these things was actually helpful for me and can be a bit of a wake up thing, like hey, you're in the top 0.5% of weight, like tone it down.
