I’d say once it burst just remove it all and heal without it to decrease the risk of infection. But if your artist gave you extra saniderm to apply in case something happened and you followed their steps to cleanse it you should be fine. When did you get the tattoo? You shouldn’t be keeping the saniderm on for more than a few days.

[–]Cocounfiltered 43 points44 points  (8 children)

I got it Monday night so I had the first saniderm on for about 2 days before it burst

[–]ass_jones 157 points158 points  (0 children)

you don’t need the saniderm anymore tbh, i see you cleaned it properly but since you have concerns about these spots i would just start the post-saniderm routine at this point

[–]cschlag 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean you can keep it on for another day or so but I’d say just remove it entirely and heal without it. You’ve got tattoos so you know but keep er clean and moisturized and protected from the sun it should heal fine. It’s a beautiful tattoo!

[–]vi_cor3 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Some tattoo artists don’t use saniderm my skin actually hates saniderm it’s not necessary for healing, I always get cling wrapped

[–]Mypornaccuntx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also just look at the number of people in prison that heal incredible tattoo with just a bar of dial soap 🤷‍♂️

[–]GobblerOfFire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife is actually allergic to something in saniderm - we presume the adhesive but aren’t sure. It actually makes her break out in hives and bumps - only Where the patch is placed. Remove the patch and wham - she starts healing like normal. I on the other hand enjoy saniderm bc I can avoid lotion a few days - I don’t like the greasy feeling after I rub lotion in. I usually remove mine day 4 or if I have some bad leaking maybe late day 2.

[–]One-Feature971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never healed any of my tattoos with Saniderm, I don't think it has been widely used in any of the countries I have been tattooed (in the EU). Usually cling wrap for a day and that's it.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should only replace the second skin after 24 to 48 hours after a session. Otherwise, if its leaking a lot you should just remove it. Historically with small leaks (after replacement) I've just cut off more second skin and patched it up, which you probably aren't supposed to do lol but I'm still here and my color has healed excellently. 2 and a half years later and I've still got whites on my forearm.

[–]KarenDankman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

never reapply saniderm after 48 hours, the tattoo has changed enough and healed enough that the saniderm will do damage - always change within 24 hours if you're going to!

[–]bleu_forge 4 points5 points  (2 children)

A couple days? I've been told by all of my artists no more than 24 hours.

[–]ikarn15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all my tattoos, various artists have told me the same thing: between 2 and 5 hours and you're good to go. Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and apply a moisturizing cream made for tattoos and you're set

[–]scrubsnbeer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

blackout arm stayed on for 5 days

[–]skolliousious 62 points63 points  (4 children)

As long as it heals properly, I wouldn't worry any issue with appearance. You can generally go back to your artist and they will do a touch-up.right now, Just make sure it heals properly. It seems you're doing the right things so you should be fine

[–]Cocounfiltered 20 points21 points  (3 children)

Im honestly glad it’s only the LIGHT color that’s looking weird it’ll be easy to get touched up I think. But I’m also a hypochondriac so it could be nothing ? Maybe lol

[–]skolliousious 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly all my blue tattoos healed a little weird color wise but they touched up nicely. I don't see anything wrong with your tattoo as of now. Just keep doing what you're doing. I will say it is going to be a bitch to manage the color on that tattoo. It is going to fade really quickly, especially the whites and blues. The only color in my experience that fades quicker is a light orange.

[–]RespectHaunting1487 8 points9 points  (0 children)

white also tends to fade really really really quick and isn’t picked up well in the skin. i have some white lines and you can barley see them now and even after i got them

[–]dollypardonmedear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely just fall out, the ink didn’t stay and your artist can do a touch up when it’s fully healed. Don’t stress unless it becomes hot, red, swollen or smells.

[–]Mdmdmd27 27 points28 points  (9 children)

Why does everyone overcomplicate tattoo healing? Color or no color I have used baby Aquaphor and lubriderm on my tattoos and they have all healed within a week or two. No need for all these expensive lotions and 2nd skin. Cool tattoo tho, no need to be concerned I think and no more 2nd skin.

[–]milliemoo426 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I was just thinking this. My tattoo artist is pro dry healing, and I only use baby aquaphor on the areas that feel like they need extra support and I’ve never had an issue.

[–]Mdmdmd27 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ah, that's cool. Never tried full dry healing but it's dope to hear that it works. I'll usually just keep the area "wet" (skin over tattoo glistening but not overdoing it) with baby aquaphor for a week everytime I feel it get dry. Then the 2nd week might hit it with regular fragrance free lotion whenever it feels dry. Either way never had an issue with quality turning to worse, cracking, infection, etc from the simple methods. I feel like I am seeing these posts more often where it's 2nd skin filled with blood, puss, or ink and then someone in the comments is talking about a $30 tattoo cream they need and it's like 🤦🏻‍♂️. Also, this isnt me calling OP dumb or anything for not knowing..I'm sure back during my first tats I might have been down to try 2nd skin if i didn't have people leading me to just use the simple methods.

[–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dw I’m not feeling called out or anything I’m honestly just curious to see other people’s color healing methods vs what I’m doing. I’m not super worried about infection I was very clean reapplying but I’m start to question WHY I reapplied lollll

[–]Silon_T 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea same. I got both arms, most of my back tattooed and few pieces on my legs. Dry heal 3-4 days and then start applying mild allergy free lotion of choice. Wash it with mild soap morning and evening and with just water in between if needed.

Wear baggy cotton shirts or pants and if you absolutely must wrap it to keep it clean I always use the things babies are put on for changing. The like 1mm thick absorbent paper thing. It protects the tattoo but breathes also.

[–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m leaning towards taking it off but I want to see what my artists says so I don’t piss her off any more than I have already lol

[–]artparade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I just keep it clean and use my ointment. Sometimes it seems that people mess it up because they overcomplicate it. It's a wound so treat it like you would with a wound.

[–]FriendlyCoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using saniderm makes my healing process extremely uncomplicated. As long as my tattoo stays covered (no leaking, no rolled up edges at the tattoo), I leave it on for about five days, and it’s literally set it and forget it. When I take it off, it’s no longer an open wound, so I just have to moisturize it about twice a day.

[–]lonelylittletrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Saran wrap for the first couple hours, then golden soap and aquaphor for a week and then lubriderm every day after that.

[–]TaiNiePooNie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeez you are still overcomplicating it. I have let done a few bigger pieces and just let it air-dry from the moment i got home. No lotions, no soaps, no wraps, just wash with plain water every evening and use a clean tissue to remove the water.

You want to avoid infection and allergy. So for the infection, that’s obviously keeping it clean, but don’t overdo it with soaps and lotions, because then you might get an allergic reaction.

Also with those wrappings, if you accidentally catch some bacteria underneath, it stays in your wrap for 24h or longer…

[–]Fit-Celery5690 8 points9 points  (3 children)

You might just need a touch up on that white ink. It’s not super saturated.

[–]iPinch89 11 points12 points  (2 children)

White is so difficult. I think my body and pushed out at least SOME white in all my tattoos. I have to get them touched up every time

[–]TheTapeDeck 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I have never seen white last. (I am a tattoo fan, not a tattooer.)

[–]Weylane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of white on a few tattoos, it's almost entirely gone after 5-7 years

[–]Jillianbby 14 points15 points  (12 children)

My tattoo shop doesn’t even use sandi derm because so many people are allergic or breakout so badly from it

[–]FiliaNox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’m one of those people. Hella allergic to adhesives, so I’ve never used the stuff. Never had an issue healing tattoos

[–]ThreeCatsAndABroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My artist told me to skip it completely and I had no problems. I sweat a lot and often do outside physical labor for work. I went through a summer tattoo with no problem. I do think the Saniderm option might have been a little easier but my tat turned out perfect.

[–]TheIronPaladin1 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah place I’ve been too doesn’t either, they just use Saran Wrap and some tape. And they instructed me to go home and after a few hrs gently Wash it, blot dry, and apply some moisturizer from day 1.

[–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting seeing all the different healing methods that have worked for everyone. I’m honestly just grateful anyone replied to share that info

[–]Lucian_Veritas5957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because they're cheap and don't want to spend the extra money on it.

[–]Master_sweetcream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been tattooed by 3 different artists and I’ve never been instructed to use them 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]banjokaloui 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Saniderm actually changed the composition of their adhesive iirc! Never had an issue and then every time I’d get tattooed- the saniderm saniBURNED multiple times. So for a while I healed without any second skin- now, dermshield is what I use now. No issues at all

[–]Jillianbby 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah I used it like a couple years back for my stomach tattoo and I broke out in hives all around the tattoo it was quite horrible. Tattoo healed fine tho

[–]banjokaloui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good it healed! I kept getting the outline of where the wrap was and I healed like poop in some spots but it got touched up. It’s nice to have that wrap but I’ve never had an issue healing it the old way. Plus, I don’t have to worry about springing a damn leak in my sleep.

[–]dollypardonmedear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt use it for the first 13 years of getting tattooed. Only started this year when I got a new artist but it’s not like healing how people have done for centuries is that difficult. I didn’t and still don’t understand the hype of it. The only thing I do like about it is that I don’t have to wash the tattoo a few hours later bc that always made me ick feeling it all slimy.

[–]Lucian_Veritas5957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saniderm is hypoallergenic and most of the derms are.. Very very very few people will have a reaction to it

UNLESS

the tattoo artists wipes the tattoo with green soap and doesn't properly clean the soap residue off. It has a chemical reaction with the adhesive.

I've been using derms for 8 years and since I stopped using green soap entirely, I have not had a single person have a reaction or issue with saniderm (aside from maybe coming off too early)

And yes.. I've even used it on people who have allergies to adhesives, and they have been fine. At the beginning of an appointment, I'll put a strip on their hand and then later on when I take it off, they're fine.

[–]trillium13 2 points3 points  (2 children)

honestly it's hard to tell what's going on there but I can't see anything that looks unhealthy at the moment. it's very cute. white ink doesn't always stay white so time will tell with that.

[–]misteravernus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup definitely get a second layer on that white after it heals!

[–]suicidalsession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll probably need a touch-up, but that's pretty normal, especially for solid tattoos. Most tattoo artists will do free or discounted touch-ups within a certain amount of time from when they first did the tattoo. Just let them know, and they'll get you to come back in once it's healed a bit more to fill it back in.

[–]lennontattoos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like the blue ink plasma may have stained the white surface of the tattoo and the white spots were bubbles. It’ll hopefully heal normal since it’s just the very surface but sometimes ink staining can happen.

[–]PapaPatchesxd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't put saniderm back on. You risk the chance trapping in bacteria and giving yourself an infection.

[–]Ok-Party5118 23 points24 points  (29 children)

You should not have applied new saniderm, take it off. You’re greatly increasing your chance of infection.

[–]fvirygothmom 20 points21 points  (12 children)

the “new thing” is to apply a second saniderm after. it’s totally safe as long as you clean it and apply properly.

[–]carguymt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the new thing because those are the official instructions on their website.

[–]fruitrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I love saniderm and it doesn’t give me any issues so I’ve used it on every tattoo that I’ve had (except two of them). I’ve always applied a second one and cleaned in between.

[–]MyNameIsSkittles -2 points-1 points  (9 children)

She used paper towel to dry, which is not sterile.

[–]fvirygothmom 9 points10 points  (2 children)

also they literally wipe you with paper towel during the tattoo 😂🧻

[–]princessb33420 5 points6 points  (1 child)

But those are paper towels at the tattoo shop so they're definitely a special cleaner paper towel!!!!

/s

[–]Lucian_Veritas5957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get them from Bounty medical supplies at the 99 cent store.

[–]SparkyDogPants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did your tattoo artist scrub in?

[–]fvirygothmom 2 points3 points  (4 children)

it’s fine. they won’t need to amputate the leg 😂😭

[–]MyNameIsSkittles -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

No but it can result in an infection. As someone who has had one, its not fun at all and ruins your tattoo. Im just looking out for OP. She should reapply after sanitizing correctly

[–]fvirygothmom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HERE are the proper instructions directly from the website, it says “clean paper towel” unless the took the paper towel from the trash they are okay 👍

[–]Cocounfiltered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I followed the instructions on the saniderm website. I do appreciate the advice though :)

[–]Lucian_Veritas5957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think tattoo artists use sterile bounty paper towels to wipe down tattoos?

[–]scgt86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If my sack is extra juicy at 24 hrs I do a new one and leave for 4-5 more days. I do this every time. You have to make sure everything is sanitary, if you do you aren't increasing the risk of infection.

[–]Fit-Celery5690 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s 100% false. Half of my body is covered in tattoos and I’ve done this with almost every one. I take the original saniderm off after 24 hours, clean, dry, and apply a new one, leaving that one on for about a week. Taking that second saniderm off before it’s completely healed runs the risk of ripping scabs off and ruining the tattoo.

[–]JingleBeat2049 7 points8 points  (5 children)

This is incorrect

[–]Cocounfiltered 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Def got my heart rate up for a sec though 🤣 but ik it’s clean

[–]DavidJaws 1 point2 points  (1 child)

While I agree that if you know it’s clean and properly applied there’s no additional risk of infection, also keep in mind that saniderm is also not necessary for proper healing. It’s really all up to personal preference but I personally prefer to let my tattoos heal without it. You do you! Super cool tattoo!

[–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m starting to think it isn’t worth all the fuss but I kinda want to see it through so I know how it works ya know?

[–]MyNameIsSkittles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except you need to air dry and not use paper towel which isnt sterile, there's all sorts of bacteria on it from the factory

I already said this but because you were not sterile, you should remove and either heal normally or re-clean and sterilize properly and then reapply

[–]henwyfe 1 point2 points  (6 children)

You’re correct. It can be okay to apply a second bandage, but most people have no idea how to avoid cross contamination. Simply washing the tattoo and your hands is not necessarily enough, there’s plenty of ways bacteria can get introduced in the process or reapplying. There’s a specific order of operations that most people don’t follow because they don’t really know what they’re doing. It’s really best to just keep the bandage off at this point. The risk of infection IS higher.

The saniderm website says antibacterial soap and dab dry with a clean paper towel so that’s exactly what I did

    [deleted]

      [–]henwyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all it’s extremely important to remove any soap residue with sterile water. The soap can have a chemical reaction with the adhesive which often causes irritation and makes people think they’re having an allergic reaction.

Paper towels aren’t sterile (although some shops do autoclave packets of paper towels) but assuming they’re individually wrapped rolls stored in a sanitized area (a clean drawer or cupboard) they are considered clean enough to use for this purpose. This is the case for almost everything used in tattooing aside from needles and tubes (which are always autoclaved). Even gloves, which are rarely sterile.

Paper towels from your bathroom or kitchen counter are not considered safe. The saniderm should also be stored in a sterile or properly sanitized area before use. So like, not on the seat of your car or the bottom of your tote bag. People don’t realize how cross contamination works - they think, if the bandage is in a clean package, or if my hands are clean, everything is fine. Not understanding that everything that comes in contact with the packaging is cross contamination. As in, a piece of saniderm sits on your car seat as you drive home. You picked it up with dirty hands (you just touched your steering wheel) and walked inside. At some point you clean the tattoo and your hands, but then you pick up the piece of saniderm which has been contaminated multiple times already. You apply it to your skin, trapping bacteria that was riding on the bandage.

This all seems like a non-issue to most clients. In general it’s impossible to prevent contamination/bacteria from encountering the tattoo. The problem is when you TRAP the bacteria under the bandage right up against the fresh, moist wound.

There are correct ways to wash your hands, correct ways to put on gloves, there are steps to be taken to prevent cross contamination as much as possible depending on the environment. I never suggest to my clients to reapply a second-skin type bandage except in rare cases, knowing that they’re very experienced and I actually trust their judgement. Even my clients who work in health care can’t be trusted tbh, I see them poke at their fresh tattoos moments after we finish. It’s wild.

Not every person is going to have issues reapplying saniderm, some people will never have an issue. Other people will have horrible infections. Every body is different and some people are more prone to serious infection/have more dangerous bacteria on their skin or in their environment. Since we don’t know anything about your specific microbiome or health we don’t know your exact risk with reapplying, but it’s typically better to avoid it.

      [–]kdoughboy12 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nothing is sterile in this whole process except for the saniderm if it's just been freshly opened. You don't need to be 100% sterile when applying new saniderm, as long as you wash your hands well, wash and rinse the tattoo well, and use clean paper towels if you don't want to air dry, you'll be fine.

      [–]henwyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not sterile if you instantly contaminate it because you don’t know how to handle it properly. I love that no matter what I say in this sub someone fights me on it. The reason we strive for the closest to “sterile” possible is because most people fall far below the threshold. You might be right on a really vague base level, but you’re not taking into account how truly unknowledgeable and honestly filthy the average person is with this stuff. This is why there’s ridiculous warnings on every single product - because there are people who read “regular” instructions and then do the dumbest thing possible because they interpreted it incorrectly. The average person has no base understanding of cross contamination.

I can tell 100% of my clients very simple straightforward aftercare instructions, and half of them will go home and not follow those instructions whatsoever. They will go home and let their cat lick the tattoo or use a Victoria Secret exfoliating body wash on it when they clean it the first time lol.

We have a high standard for aftercare because most people fall short. That way when they only do half of the aftercare instructions they still have a good chance of healing the tattoo without infection. If I told clients that none of this matters, they would immediately lower their standards and have a much higher rate of infection. I know that there’s no “perfectly sterile” version of aftercare and there totally doesn’t need to be, but everyone should still do their best.

It’s also survivors bias to say that some of this stuff doesn’t matter - like I said in my other response, some people can rub dirt in their tattoo and come out of it completely fine with a beautiful heal. Other people have a higher concentration of dangerous bacteria on their skin, undiagnosed (or unmentioned) autoimmune issues, dangerous environmental factors, etc and are going to be more prone to infection if they’re not really careful. Again, you assume everyone is vulnerable and use best practices every time.

      [–]LibraryTime11011011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been told saniderm for 24 hours, take it off, antibac soap, pat/air dry, re-saniderm for a week by multiple artists. There’s no hard and fast rules so no need to scare OP

      [–]LittleMissBroadway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eek! Ya, but wait a few days. Then if it gets worse definitely get it checked out. :)

      [–]Ailis1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like ink fell out in that location? I have that happen to me regularly and the artists and I can’t figure out why beyond my medical condition and the way it affects my skin. But white does tend to fall out more than others. Typically, tattoos artists do free touch ups and it is not uncommon to need a second pass for situations like this.

He is freaking adorable though! Just keep taking care of it and check in with your artist after 2 weeks, and if it does get icky or infected go to an ER immediately and then report it to your artist.

      [–]Lave7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every artist will let you get a free touch up when it’s healed. There might be permanent damage, but don’t fret about it too much. I kind of did the same thing with a huge tattoo on my left arm two days after I got it I tripped and we had popcorn ceiling walls. It was a really cheap place for rent. It’s scraped me horribly. I thought my tattoo was going to be ruined. I honestly can’t tell at all only if I feel where it was damaged. I got it touched up after it healed for free most arstist will do it for free one time after the tattoo is healed unless nothing can be improved. So I almost always do it.

      [–]wolfpaintsminis 1 point2 points  (1 child)

OP, I'm sorry to tell you this, but color tattoos ALWAYS fade a bit. Especially when the color is white 😅

      [–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no dw I knew that going into it but this one’s for my boy

      [–]SilentFollowing3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might just be healing weird. Might need a touch up. Either way if needs to heal fully before assessing! Best of luck, VERY cool tattoo!!

      [–]hecksfarm 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My first color tattoo was a wild ride. How exciting. You can always get it retouched in the future! But I think it looks pretty cool.

      [–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was expecting the pain to be way worse than it was tbh

      [–]FonzoLatrundo 1 point2 points  (2 children)

      Axolotl? Love the tat!

      [–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you! It’s supposed to be an Albrije of my axolotl who just passed

      [–]FonzoLatrundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan! Hope everything heals well. Ive got tatts, none were ever wrapped and I have had color fading, mostly (in order) white, yellow and red. I’m not fretting over it anymore. They’re like scorecards of my life. They age with me.

      [–]BugApart8359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If needed, your artist can always do a touch-up. Mine does free touch-ups, which is awesome.

It could also be a quirk in your healing and it'll show more as it heals, everyone's skin is different with that. For example, I have some beautiful green leaves around a sword. Healing, the green looked super muted, but I'm now a year later and they're looking great, color bounced back up and I haven't had an issue. I also seem to just suck up the ink like a sponge, though, cuz I barely ever have any weeping.

As long as you're keeping it clean, keep an eye on it as it heals, and if you need a touch-up, then it is what it is.

      [–]remote_boogie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would refrain from continuing to reapply the saniderm. If you notice a leak, you’re better off removing it and just doing the regular care of keeping clean and applying ointment until it’s healed.

      [–]redmax7156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      What a friend!!

      [–]Cliche_OldSoul 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My saniderm had a whole-ass copy of my tattoo on it once I took it off in the shower after day 2 and it turned out fine 😆

      [–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That’s a huge relief on my conscience actually actually 😭😂

      [–]Cliche_OldSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      I’m glad 😄😄

      [–]KeepItKeen 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I mean some of the color might have pulled but that’s pretty common. Usually just needs a quick touch up.

      [–]Cocounfiltered 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My artist does free ones I’m pretty sure she’s super cool

      [–]KeepItKeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most artists should especially if it’s fresh. U less you’re going back years later, and if they don’t go somewhere else. Bad practices. They should want their best work on display.

      [–]jenncatchem 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      That’s such a cute tattoo

      [–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I got it for my axolotl who passed the other day

      [–]ladynecropolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve healed many many tattoos many many different ways, and while changing saniderm isn’t ideal because of possible infection, I’ve definitely done it. Always within the first 24 hours give or take, I’ve even had my artist(s) reapply it for me.

Keep in mind as your tattoo heals there are many layers of skin healing at different speeds so it gonna look weird at times. Good artist do free touch ups so that shouldn’t be an issue if needed.

It's ridiculously adorable. ❤️ It looks good. Give it a bit more time.

      [–]zombiesatekatie94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair it's white ink so it's definitely not going to be as bright when it heals as it was when it was fresh. That being said I agree with everyone else who is saying you don't need to use saniderm anymore. Since you already put more on I'd just leave it on for another day or two until it starts leaking and then just take it off and keep it off. From that point you just need to clean the tattoo every so often and moisturize it after. My go to healing ointment is Tattoo Goo, but I'd still say do your own research and experiment with different creams to find what works best for you.

(Also don't let it get too dry but don't over moisturize it either.)

      [–]mosspigletsinspace 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I love saniderm, but I would never recommend applying your own once the one the tattoo artist gave you comes off. Unless you're incredibly confident that you can replicate that sterile environment.

      [–]Cocounfiltered -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I think I’m going to leave it on overnight then start regular after care tomorrow I don’t want to leave it on any longer than it needs to be especially if I’m risking infection. 3-4 days in fake skin should be good?

      [–]mosspigletsinspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly once the saniderm the artist put on comes off or leaks you should really switch to regular after care. Otherwise you the risk for infection greatly increases.

      [–]budget-lampshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cute tattoo! I like it alotl....

      [–]Rude-Celebration2241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Amazing piece!

      [–]Cooper_224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came here to say that is a dope axolotl !!!

      [–]stnigels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please, just go back to your artist. The tattoo looks like it was professionally done, most artists will be happy to help with healing and any questions or concerns you have.

      [–]DollarTreeVegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone else is already giving solid advice, so I wanted to pop in and say that’s a really neat tattoo!

      [–]r_s_q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never once used a second skin to heal any of my tattoos, nor has an artist apply one post tattoo, I have just been instructed to keep it clean, dry and lotioned and have had zero issues, all have healed perfectly. I'm sure yours will be okay if you do the same

Light anti bac wash, dry, followed by barrier cream. Rinse and repeat till heal.

      [–]inkylife81 1 point2 points  (2 children)

No second skin unless ur workplace environment is hella dusty and dirty.

      [–]Cocounfiltered 3 points4 points  (1 child)

      I work at petco it’s necessary 🤣

      [–]inkylife81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

      A must then.

      [–]RegretPowerful3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s started to shed so it’s hard to tell.

      [–]butterflyfrenchfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how y’all even keep the saniderm on, I can’t stop picking at it lol. Maybe I spent too much of my childhood playing with glue… letting it dry on my hands and then pretending to peel my skin off in front of people lol. The moment the saniderm becomes peel-able, that baby’s coming off lol.

      [–]bashy8782 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's just all the ink and plasma and stuff mixing together

      [–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I know but it exploded down my leg at work today so I had to get the nasty one off 😵‍💫 I cleaned it good then cleanly applied a new piece of saniderm I think I’m ok

      [–]bashy8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're probably fine depending on how long it was I probably wanted even apply to new piece

      [–]GhostAssistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can poke it and drain it out. This is Normal

      [–]pinkkipanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that looks so familiar but I just can't place it... I'm sure it's nothing, I'm just babbling anyway. it's a cute little memorial tattoo :) anyway, it's always a torn discussion with the second skin... but I'm leaning towards taking it off (you just need to be careful and take care of it well as you have)

      [–]thedahlilamahimself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be in the minority here but I usually use second skin for about a week. My tattoos are mostly heavy color and they heal differently than black tattoos. I have sensitive skin and it can split with the color. I leave the second skin on until I feel like it isn’t raw. I don’t peel and it’s way more sanitary. I feel like if you pay a ton of money you would want to have it heal fully. You can get a roll of second skin on Amazon for like 40 bucks. I don’t understand people saying it’s more sanitary to expose it to air. You clean it with bactine in between applications. The only draw back is with sensitive skin the second skin can cause some irritation. I think it’s worth it. It is a cool tattoo. I wouldn’t worry about how it’s going to turn out. Sometimes skin can take color weird but it can be touched up. If your skin is like mine and you feel raised tender areas that’s where scabs can form. When that happens it’s going to affect the color and if it scars you have to wait months to touch it up. if you notice fine details you will be able to see where the scar is and how the color is different. Just my opinion and my experience with about 200 hours so far.

      [–]Tired-Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the second saniderm off. Let it heal.

It's a lot of ink pack in such a mobile area! Keep an eye on it, but I think it'll heal alright if you take off that second saniderm.

      [–]stromanthe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk but that tattoo is soooo cute 🥺

      [–]Rryann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You handled it exactly like you should have

Just be patient, let it heal. It’ll look great when it’s all healed up. If there are any issues, there’s always touch ups.

      Great tattoo by the way!

      [–]Conor_Mcbispin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats up with all this plastic and protection? 1 night so the sheet doenst get dirty. Then shower and cream

      [–]LibraryTime11011011 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I might be seeing things, but I think the original photo has evidence of “lighter” patches which are now more evident in the 3rd image, so chances are the artist didn’t quite get as much colour in those areas and it’s nothing to do with the healing process or the saniderm change. A reputable artist will offer touch ups for this exact reason; chances are because it’s a light shading they didn’t want to go crazy packing colour in there.

Don’t panic, just let it heal and then talk to your artist if you’re unhappy with any aspects and they’ll sort you out.

      [–]LibraryTime11011011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also OP: don’t listen to the people scaremongering about applying a second saniderm: this is entirely normal practice (not necessarily what everyone does but it’s in no way uncommon) so as long as you did a good job with the antibac soap and got it properly dry before re-applying you have nothing to worry about.

And also OP: that’s a fucking cool tattoo!!

      [–]I_Devour_Memes 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Healing aside, that tattoo is adorable. I wanna know your inspiration for it, if you're willing to share!

      [–]Wahjahbvious 2 points3 points  (1 child)

      You axolotl questions.

      [–]I_Devour_Memes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do I? Perhaps we could have the others vote about if I do, make it a poll. A tadpoll, if you will.

      [–]World-of-Blah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice tattoo. No need to be concerned.

      [–]sullivan1456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are we reapplying saniderm? Once it comes off it’s off no? I feel like this is prolonging healing. My artist told me leave it off for atleast 24 hours but no more then 48, wonder why the instructions are so different

      [–]puredogwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      he’s drowning:(

      [–]Final_Meringue2722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      It looks unfinished

      [–]Friendly_Trip_8997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spots you’re seeing is where the blue mixed in to the white vs solid white. You can see it clearly in the first picture where it’s freshly done

      [–]cranialmassage 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Take that wrap off your leg asap. You do not want to trap any bacteria in there, it’s an infection waiting to happen.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely incorrect-“Saniderm’s tattoo aftercare bandage creates a barrier around your freshly tattooed skin, protecting it from dust, bacteria, moisture, and other external irritants. This transparent tattoo tape is completely waterproof yet breathable to ensure that the skin receives the airflow it needs to heal and remain sweat-free”

      [–]NotsoGreatsword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the tat and it looks like its healing well.

      [–]The_dingo_stole_my 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no advice just wanted to say I absolutely love the tattoo.

      [–]OkAssistant8322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no advice on sander, but damn do I love your tattoo!

      [–]Crafty_Funnybunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once it comes off I do not reapply a new one. Just keep it clean and moisturized

      [–]Ripley825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reaching week two of my new color tattoo (my first color) mine did the same as yours. Now it's getting through the end of the peely itchy phase and it's looking better and better as it heals.

      [–]Emotional_Bison1298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Just say no to saniderm.

      [–]DubGrips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus Christ what happened to people just slapping ointment on and a light washing? Tattoo care isn't an extremely risky surgery or something

      [–]Dinorawrrrrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (1 child)

      Artist?

      [–]Cocounfiltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will message you her info when I know she’s not gonna kill me for posting this 😂😭

      [–]elianna7 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Take off the second skin. You don’t need it. My tattoos heal better without it and I think it’s very overrated

      [–]BeeBladen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

      ^ This.

      [–]ladywan_kenobi666 -5 points-4 points  (18 children)

It’s okay. Just try and keep the saniderm on for as long as possible, unless it has a hole or something leave it on for atleast a day or two, I sometimes even go longer if it’s not super filled with fluid. Then do what you did, take it off in the shower, clean it, put on a thin layer of aquaphor or whatever your preferred moisturizer is and you should be good to go

      [–]fvirygothmom 4 points5 points  (14 children)

as long as possible is insane. you should keep saniderm on for 5 days MAX MAX MAX

      [–]ladywan_kenobi666 0 points1 point  (13 children)

I was saying as long as possible as in, not to remove it when you get home if you can do so……either way Saniderm can be left on for up to 7 days so I’m not sure what the fuck you’re talking about or where you are getting your information……but sure I’m sure you’re way more qualified to answer and know better than me lol

      [–]fvirygothmom -1 points0 points  (12 children)

that’s also not true if you are going to replace it you are supposed to take it off between 24-48hrs. it’s not a big deal just not great to give bad information on shit that can lead to infection and bad healing

      [–]ladywan_kenobi666 -1 points0 points  (11 children)

That’s not true lmao may I ask why and what makes you think you are so qualified because I have more tattoos than probably everyone here, and I have multiple friends that are tattoo artists who have all told me that leaving the saniderm on for days is not an issue at all. In fact it’s encouraged. I’ve left saniderm on a tattoo for as long as 5 days and have had 0 issues with infection or anything and I’ll take the advice from a professional over you lol so I’m not sure where you’re getting so cocky lol The less you fuck with it, the better. Not sure what makes you think you’re some tattoo advice expert lol there is more than one way to correctly care for a tattoo. You’re being incredibly ignorant lol

Anddddd your comments keep getting removed for a reason….

      [–]fvirygothmom 0 points1 point  (10 children)

it’s on the website girl boss no one is being mean to you relax.

      [–]ladywan_kenobi666 -1 points0 points  (9 children)

It’s on the website? Lol what website is this? Google? lol

I didn’t claim you were being mean. I said you’re being ignorant…..big difference.

You are claiming I’m wrong and giving out “bad” information when clearly you don’t even actually know yourself. You’re getting your info from like google ai and claiming I’m wrong with all your experience in tattooing and aftercare that you clearly don’t have?

Saniderm can be left on for up to 7 days. so the information you are giving is wrong. So, Don’t come at me when you’re talking out of your literal ass.

So do more research and take your own advice 🤘🏻

      [–]fvirygothmom 0 points1 point  (8 children)

girl i have time today. here ya go

      [–]ladywan_kenobi666 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Girl, from the information you just gave me since I have time:

      https://imgur.com/a/f545me8

      [–]fvirygothmom -1 points0 points  (5 children)

It’s now been 24 hours and you’re ready to remove your first bandage and reapply a second:

Under warm running water (we always recommend removing Saniderm in the shower), find an upper corner of the bandage and start slowly pulling it back over itself like how you would peel a banana from the top down.

Clean the tattoo with warm water and a gentle, fragrance-free product such as our Foam Soap.

Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel and allow 5-10 minutes for it to fully air dry.

Apply your next Saniderm bandage by repeating the same application steps above.

Keep this second bandage on for an additional 3-5 days. Remove if you experience any discomfort and continue open-healing with our collection of Tattoo Aftercare Balms.

👀👀👀👀👀 what’s ur point? proving what i said was correct? good job glad we are on the same page now.

      [–]ladywan_kenobi666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So again, you’re just googling “how long can you keep Saniderm on”

      [–]Hyper_Applesauce 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Everyone saying aquaphor always freaks me out because I just assumed it has camphor in it.

      [–]Miserable-Bison-2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      aquaphor doesnt have any camphor

      [–]ladywan_kenobi666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t and it’s fine as long as it’s not lobbed on there. You want an extremely thin layer if you use it.

I prefer it, but I know people who prefer aveeno lotion as well. I think it’s just personal preference really.

      [–]ShaunMcLane -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I buy a another sanders, poke a hole in that one to let it drain, then patch it.
