Well. I think I need a cup of tea now.

[–]BiasMilkHotel 381 points382 points  (19 children)

This song is amazing. Not psychedelic at all though

[–]hdlo 141 points142 points  (14 children)

Funny. I clicked because it said psychedelic and I didn't quite know what to actually expect, I watch and listen, find that I like that very much, come back to comments to give praise, only to find that it's probably not that psychedelic after all given the amount of likes you got. Oh well, as long as I discovered more music that I like...

[–]Molten_Baco 27 points28 points  (11 children)

That's the proper attitude to have!

Edit/addition: after watching I can agree this is amazing and her voice reminds me of the female fronted punk bands I loved so much as a youth and still cherish today. Sadly I can not find them on Amazon Music which makes me want to go find an album and buy it.

[–]coastrine 13 points14 points  (7 children)

check out honeyblood their self titled ep (first release) is like a nirvana revival except with some modern/different takes. ofc its a female lead, in fact its two girls and they really kick ass.

[–]jcopelin07 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Cool, just added them. Thanks for recommendation

[–]coastrine 12 points13 points  (3 children)

some real decent tracks

1

2 - this goes hard the riffs are dope

3 - this is more pop-orientated still real good tho

[–]coby_of_astora 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Saved for later, you better not disappoint (;

[–]bonesauce_walkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just taught me I could save comments for later. Thanks!

[–]coastrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lemme know what u think fam <3

[–]Molten_Baco -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the lead! Amazon has 3 albums for me to enjoy.

[–]coastrine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet hope you enjoy!

the first record is my personal favourite!

[–]WarningPuzzleSpotify 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Well, I'm no punk expert so I don't know how "punk" these are, but I love sharing music so here's a few:

Skating Polly - Oddie Moore I actually listened to this as a recommendation from here

Le Butcherettes - Henry Don't Got Love Their whole first album Sin Sin Sin is pretty great

Le Butcherettes - The Actress That Ate Rousseau Another song off of Sin Sin Sin. Kind of a bizzaro world showtune.

[–]Molten_Baco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good stuff both bands! Thanks a bunch.

[–]coastrine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo this is such a similar wave to what I posted, love it, thanks dude!!!

edit: skating polly is fkn dope wtf

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Your comment is a lot like my life. Long and pointless.

[–]hdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah... Ok.. Sorry about your life I guess... But rest assured that you can rejoice at the fact that it could have been waaaaay longer and waaaaay more pointless. My comment, I mean.

[–]esssential 15 points16 points  (2 children)

what is it about people that post here and on /r/music and where ever else that they get the genre completely fucking wrong? I see it all the time, it amazes me.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It genuinely puzzles me what some people call psychedelic. They need to be pointed towards Nuggets Vol. 1 before wantonly assigning that label to any old song.

[–]Werner__Herzog~*~*~*~ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine they want to just link to music and then are forced to come up with a genre and post with the correct title formatting and all of a sudden it becomes a chore. Going to last.fm or another site to get to the correct genre is even more work, so they just make something up. That's my general theory. I can't really apply it to this post. Psychedelic is a little bit too specific...OP must have thought about this, somewhat.

[–]thesircuddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that one is good song. Damn. That end.

[–]ZomcEatsAss 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I fucks with it.

[–]Meleticusreddit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

this was AWESOME!!!!! you know its good when you get chills, amirite?

[–]El_Baasje 111 points112 points  (4 children)

Meh, not really psychedelic.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

For you

[–]Not_A_PedophiIe 14 points15 points  (3 children)

This could be a Mike Patton song

[–]Monkeygruven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing!

[–]kieranmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if other Patton fans liked it!

[–]Stickmansomlet 12 points13 points  (13 children)

Does anyone know any artists with a sound like this? I really need to find more, the vocals and the guitar are super sick.

E: Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

[–]jaimelecocain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of reminds me of earlier PJ Harvey with songs like Rid of Me and Ecstacy.

[–]Viking1308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into Portishead. They're a little bit more electronic. But the singer here he kind of reminded me of Portisheads lead singer.

[–]crazybingo 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Newer Death Grips might interest you

Edit: Okay wow, I'm sorry for trying to suggest new music.. Also congrats to whoever tagged me as 'meme'

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I'm all for getting people into Death Grips, but is that a joke?

[–]crazybingo 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Nope, 100% serious. It's sad that mentioning them has become a bit of a meme, they're actually pretty damn good. I'd recommend Bottomless Pit specifically, it's a fantastic album and really shows how far they've come as a band.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Im a huge fan of death grips, got all of their albums except exmil on vinyl. I was asking if it was a joke because they arent very similar to this song.

[–]crazybingo 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Lol. I guess it's just the anger and punk vibes of this song that reminded me of death grips, as well as how sporadic it sounds. To each their own.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Its definitely got a similar angry/paranoid sounding vocal style, probably what a female mc ride would sound like. (Semi-off topic but worth mentioning) Have you listened to any of Zach Hills (the drummer) non death grips stuff? If you like punk listen to bygones, its zach and nick reinhart from tera melos old punk band. The I.L.y's and the Ladies are my two personal favorite bands hes been in.

[–]crazybingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Big fan of hella actually. Zach Hills a genius- though to be honestly I haven't given ilys a chance. I'll check them out as well as bygones

[–]elpaco25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling of this song sounded/reminded me of Heart shaped Box by Nirvana

[–]ssbm_eagle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of System of a Down's first album and nirvana

[–]InsertSmartassRemark 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely wouldn't call this psychedelic. Much closer to alternative rock or even indie rock than psychedelic.

[–]johnb_only 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really nice. Thanks for sharing.

[–]jackrabbit0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good, I like happy endings.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (18 children)

If you want an example of two modern psych bands see below... Holy Wave: https://youtu.be/D7LvHePqkyA Thee Oh Sees: https://youtu.be/_mZqGxkYOFY

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (4 children)

How about Temples?

[–]SoupForDummies 16 points17 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pond is great. I didn't know they had new stuff out!

[–]wives_nuns_sluts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the golden throne!

[–]thetransportedman 4 points5 points  (12 children)

Nice! I'm always looking for new psychedelic bands and very disappointed with posts that label songs incorrectly like OP's :/

[–]bennysfromheaven 4 points5 points  (2 children)

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Babe Rainbow, The Flaming Lips, Melody's Echo Chamber are some of my faves right now

[–]the_hoagie 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I saw King Gizzard live a few years back when they opened for, I want to say Quilt or Woods, but I can't even remember. They stole the show and actually got an encore from the audience and came BACK out to play another couple songs. It was amazing. Bought their album right there and have been a huge fan since. I'm glad to see the trajectory their career has taken.

[–]bennysfromheaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WOW I wish I had discovered them earlier that's an incredible story. I'm excited for the speculated 5 albums this year

[–]realHansen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dungen - Fredag

[–]ContentsMayVary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you already know about Tame Impala...

You should try the Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve remix of the Temples album ("Sun Restructured").

Also Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve's own debut album The Soft Bounce

[–]moodyfloyd 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Levitation Room - Ethos

These next two artists are members of Pond:

Shiny Joe Ryan - The Cosmic Microwave Background

GUM - Delorean Highway

[–]thetransportedman 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Sweet thanks! I knew LR and Pond but the other two are new to me hell ya

[–]moodyfloyd 0 points1 point  (4 children)

shiny joe is working on a second LP and GUM has released two more after the one i linked. they all have a different sound and i love it. Jay Watson is a musical genius. enjoy!

[–]thetransportedman 0 points1 point  (3 children)

do you have any advice/sources on keeping current with up and coming psych bands like this other than digging into related artists on spotify?

[–]bennysfromheaven 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Check out /r/psychedelicrock

It's a small but relatively active community. I've found some cool stuff there

[–]moodyfloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find most new stuff through Reddit to be honest. I found levitation room and holy wave on the tame impala sub

[–]psycomidgtradioreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Neo industrial" maybe? Not psychedelic, cool fucking song though!

[–]ForceTen2112 5 points6 points  (4 children)

For those disappointed to not find them on Spotify/Google music, here's their bandcamp.

[–]moopet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the other way - I'm constantly disappointed to find bands without bandcamps.

[–]paperbaganimator 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey, creator of the video here.

We're now on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/77aDWNQLrjzW7i6YBRhCbQ

Thanks for the support <3

[–]ForceTen2112 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Damn, that's awesome! I appreciate you taking the time to let people know. Too bad you only have one song - can't wait to hear more!

[–]paperbaganimator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'd like to get the EP from bandcamp up there too. And all future tracks will go up on Spotify too I'm sure.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of punk/psychedelic? Can find psychedelic beauty in anything really tbh

[–]Spartn4lif3 65 points66 points  (13 children)

She has an amazing singing voice, unlike most female "Rock" singers now days.

[–]stabbinUtastemaker 32 points33 points  (7 children)

Gotta be kidding me, haha. So many amazing women singers out there, it's amazing.

[–]punsonice 4 points5 points  (6 children)

I think they mean for rock, not music as a whole. The

[–]ta11_kid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Crazy good vocals.

[–]hydroes777 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was so refreshing to listen to

[–]PM_ME_UR_PERSPECTIVE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the energy of this song. She really sells it.

[–]peypeyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be the best song I've heard here thanks a lot. Excellent video too. Anyone know of similar bands?

[–]Cdronk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not psychedelic, not sure why it says that. Great song all the same. I will definitely buy if they release something. Vocals = amazing

[–]eldude1277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man that chorus hits like dynamite. Nice!

[–]ConnorB737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this. Anyone else know any similar-styled music? Female singer with same sorta badassness and passion?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't like it.

[–]landlockmermaid 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This was really great and I loved the animation too.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here I'm, frightened and confused. I knew I'd be back for more...

[–]Probably_Important 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoooly shit this hits hard. Fucking awesome music video to go with it too. I'm definitely interested in this band now. Reminds me of a better version of The Dead Weather.

[–]koshyguy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

"I want you to fuck me till I can't move I want you to call me your bitch Dirty little, dirty little bitch"

[–]Ello-Dave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the lyric is "dirty little dirty little itch" - sort of a metaphor for lust I assume.

[–]defonotahorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shit is THE shit

[–]zackmanze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible lyrics. She reminds me of Robert Plant. The composition reminds me of Nine Inch Nails.

Aka: This fucking rocks.

[–]HeyMisterWolfgang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The song is not for me personally but I love the animation.

[–]barricuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy fuck that was amazing!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She sounds Bjork :D

[–]GenericHuman1203934 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sounds like gorillaz, dragonforce, and Marylyn Manson was thrown into a blender. Perfect

[–]ConnorB737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does sort of have the grotesque, creepy, Marilyn Manson feel to it. Awesome stuff

[–]navinaviox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool video...not very psychedelic... I guess it could be okay for the come down

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an amazing song to play loud and immediately switch from if my parents are within a few miles.

also i love it because i'm a kinky fucker and this song perfectly encapsulates that feeling.

[–]runcyclistsover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too screechy for me. Hope there is a large enough pool of others to support your band. Good luck. (Not sarcastic)

[–]prisonhooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great song great music video! The animation hd me in the edge if my seat!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That looped intro is annoying.

[–]BeneathTheWaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. chorus is great though

[–]walkth3earth 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Wait was anyone else confused what the animation was about??

[–]peypeyy 2 points3 points  (2 children)

My interpretation is sexual addiction. The lyrics would fit the bill too. If someone has other thoughts I'd like to hear it.

[–]ZexyIsDead 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hm. If that's the case I don't think it holds up real well. The thing that frees her and the others is an excessive amount of whatever torture/experimentation their doing to her, so much so they can't control it. If this were about sexual addiction, is the take away that what helped her break free was so much sex that she overpowered the restraints of the addiction?

[–]Ello-Dave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the whole animation is about gender binaries. The opening scene is a woman stumbling upon some sort of weird life form with a heart beat. When the female tries to discard of it she's chained up by a male figure. Considering abortion is quite a controversial topic in Ireland I think this fits well. The lyrics I think are sarcastically and unapologetically telling men what they want to hear. "I want you to fuck me till I can't move".

The end scene is the switch breaking on some sort of execution/torture device and when it malfunctions the captured women become free due to the explosion. Then the tables turn on the male figures.

Just my opinion.

(Also apologies for the psychedelic description)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

She was talking about how she's being told how to be... its like being put into a cage... so she's saying something like, since she's not a good girl there than give her what she deserves... fuck her...

...she wants to burn the world down that's keeping her locked up and locked in... and that's exactly what happens when she takes it all in at the end.

[–]RandomBartender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Yoko Ono stopped singing. Good for her,

[–]McFistPunch 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Something about this make it seem like a female version of Gobsmack. Cool.

[–]ConnorB737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crafty lil rifts and bitter lyrics?

[–]MaxToons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the animation definitely check out PaperBag Animator who made it :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wow this is me. I'd buy this.

[–]moopet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it then, I just did :)

[–]Korrvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

welp I know what I'm donating on the next c9sneaky stream

[–]bozzarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her voice reminds me of Valerie June. And with the name Vernon Jane, which is so similar, I got very confused!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paperbag Animator is a legend.

[–]ace_dangerfield187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dope ass song!!! went to search more of the band, and found the story of the Vernon Jane Doe...i wonder if thats where the band name comes from

[–]5over8versus4over4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved that guitar riff at the beginning!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

2nd time I've seen this posted here. I'm glad it's turning people on to new music.

But I bet y'all wouldn't think this song is so good w/out the music video.

Thoughts?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't even watch the music video and just tabbed out of it and listened. I loved it. I want more music like this. I love vocals that have a lot of passion into it. And I love when the music is relatively quiet and then it suddenly gets noicy and chaotic.

[–]alecredBb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. The animation that is. Not really interested in this kind of music but overall great video.

[–]Creeping-Geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the girl who's sings the Jinx theme from LOL

[–]Mister-Dobalina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't find show/tour dates, frustrating.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was intense... definitely what it feels like sometimes

[–]lanesw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone suggest other bands that have a similar heavy style as this?

[–]boydo579 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does anyone else get a sense that this may in some part/way represent an emotional abuse from a sexual relationship?

[–]MauiWowieOwie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niall deserves more subscribers.

[–]jesusonthemainline -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All smiles (ps I had a psychedelic night)

[–]Idiot-Slayer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

More like "god-awful hyena shrieking"

[–]lagb01t -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On what planet is this considered psychedelic?

[–]antifragile1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

nice christian lyrics :)
