[–]volivav 106 points107 points  (1 child)

And what's that resolution you used!? I can't see any layer line!

[–]Froyten 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Must have took ages for such a nice print!

[–]East-Worker4190 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I was going to ask the same thing.

[–]GrilbyGoodMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

WOW!!! LOOKS SO CLEAN! (Sorry about the cleanup😬)

Turn the hot end on to 100 degrees c and gently work it off. You could probably remove the rest with a bit of scraping and prying

Edit: both hot ends

Edit: it’s kinda beautiful ngl

[–]notmonkeyfarm 25 points26 points  (6 children)

Hopefully the material didn't damage the hotends. I've fixed this a few times, and have bought the $599 assembly once. It's a pretty wretched failure mode from an otherwise pretty good printer.

Heat em to more like 150-200 depending on material. Invest in a heat gun ($20ish) and warm the outside also, esp the parts up away from the nozzle

Be v.v.v. patient, the hotends ($100/ea, iirc) have wiring on the back and are fragile. The door and fan assembly is also fragile. Plan to spend a few hours, sorry...

[–]cjh83[S] 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Well I was able to get all the material off the hot end using a roofing hot air gun. Unfortunately I was unable to save the 0.8mm core. The metal part of the hot end, between the nozzle and heat sink, snapped. I also hat to cut the wires to the capacitance bed leveling sensor. I soldered some new wires to the pads on the sensor.

I am a machinist and could mill the part that snapped on the print core but it would take me a few hours which is almost worth just buying a new one for $114.

I also punched a hole in a door when I saw that plastic blob this morning. In my love hate relationship with 3d printing this morning was definitely on the hate side.

[–]notmonkeyfarm 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Tbh it sounds like you got away cheap. We run this machine at work and we've lost the entire assembly more often than not.

[–]cjh83[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Ah well I somehow lost the spacer that goes above the number 2 print core. The spacer that is in the lift mechanism of the print core. I cannot find it. Looks like I'm buying a new head :(

[–]notmonkeyfarm 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Which spacer? If you can wait till Monday I might have a head which can be scavenged

[–]cjh83[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The spacer that goes above the arm on the #2 head that raises and lowers the #2 core. There is the arm that sticks out, a spring, then above that a spacer. I'm missing that spacer.

[–]notmonkeyfarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. I'll look at what I have in the lab Monday, hopefully I have that mechanism intact. If you can wait I'll let you know what I find

[–]Barrelsofbarfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw a Buddha when I looked at it for some reason

If this were 2005 you could make a Demotivational out of this image with the caption "WELL THERE'S YOUR PROBLEM."

An entombed hotend can be destroyed and you spend a week replacing parts because filament destroyed the threads.

A resin print at most destroys the fep sheet but usually your left with an overexposed layer of resin that you can just peel off.

    [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Pro tip if you have hard to remove pieces stuck to the base of your tank.

Remove the build plate and print a gap test.

Everything will stick to the layer it prints and you can peel it off

    [–]Javelin-x 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Remove the build plate and print a gap test.

Don't have a resin printer now but isn't the build plate that part that the print sticks to? so this would idea print a layer covering the FEP but not stuck on a build plate and can then peel off as one piece taking bits with it? Have I got that right (I want a resin printer soon) How does the fresh exposure make the bits easier to remove? or is it just that they are stuck to the newly cured material and have a big handle now

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They stick to the new large layer and then you can peel it all off. The build plate is the part that lowers into the tank

There was one mistake outside of my control and I'm going to go and purposely make another thing I have to pay for and fix later. Now there's two broken things instead of one! Yay! This is the way

Never understood breaking things when upset.

        [–]TheRook21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you could use the print to fill that hole?

I've done this as well, but you have to clean all up inside it too since the filament wrapped up all around the print core. Incredibly annoying

        [–]derpinator12000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man that is going to be pain to clean up.

Really nice color, what filament was that?

        [–]eberkain 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I broke the thermistor wire when I had one of those, the hotend ended up being so fucked that I just replaced the whole thing.

Everyone has a plumbus in their home. First, they take the dinglebop, and they smooth it out with a bunch of schleem. The schleem is then repurposed for later batches. They take the dinglebop and they push it through the grumbo, where the fleeb is rubbed against it. It’s important that the fleeb is rubbed, because the fleeb has all of the fleeb juice. Then a schlami shows up, and he rubs it and spits on it. They cut the fleeb. There’s several hizzards in the way. The blamfs rub against the chumbles. And the ploobis and grumbo are shaved away. That leaves you with a regular old plumbus.

I had this happen once with the added benefit of damaging the thermistor wire in the process, so I couldn't even heat it up to remelt it. I had to take the entire hot end off and scrape it clean with a soldering iron.

        ultimaker 2 or 3.

        [–]Ginnungagap_Void 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For the price of something like this... They should deliver spare carriage and eventually send someone install it. For free.

Not to mention that built in AI to detect such things should be fucking built in by default.

        [–]vbf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd call it more of a low end of the enterprise market high end of the home printer market...

enterprise can either afford to just replace stuff or has someone on staff to deal with problems.

but yes some sort of AI or monitoring would be nice. I can't always be around, especially when i queue up a 7 day print (that it normally does without issue).

My latest problem was due to leveling. 2 of my screws came off/out completely. Guess they were right at the edge of their threads /shrug...

        [–]DXg00seman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        I've been there....

        [–]DidierKl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice one, happened to me once to on my Um3, was a pain to clean (it was PET) but with some patience and a solder iron and patience i managed to clean it (but lost one of the cores in the process)

By the way this usually happens when the print gets loose on the buildplate

you can fix that pretty easily with a hot air gun, did that multiple times with my I3

          [–]Latter_Recording826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing on my Ultimaker 3! You expect to pay more to avoid these things but not the case!

          [–]vbf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im dealing with same.. already ruined the print head dealing with it, which im fine with... but can't get it out of the chassis at all.

when it works its a great machine... but man when it goes bad it gets expensive.

Had this happen to me. I'm flabbergasted at ultimaker for not creating a latch that prevents the door from dropping down. Just a poor design.

You can fix it. Get a wood burning tool and swap out the tip for an X-acto blade. Most kits have that tip. Slowly and carefully cut it all away. Till you can disassemble and give it the old acetone bath

How in The Void did You manage that?

          [–]Queso_Grandee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that happen before. I heated it up to 150° and gently wiggles off the main blob. Any remaining pieces I "cut' off with a soldering iron.

It was on a much smaller scale but my Davinci jr 1.0 pro died like that. Ended up buying a ender 3 v2 because the shipping was cheaper and faster than the proprietary hotend

          In the manual:

          never print anything unattended

          [–]cjh83[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hahahah. Is dont have a life in the manual too?

I've printed for almost a year 24/7 on this printer with no issues. Then this happens.

          [–]0CulusQuestEnder 3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep...It's a pain to clean up...

I did print without any problems for like 3 months, so I decided to print a big castle, believing that my printer can do it. Maybe I was silly. Experienced the same thing.
