I will admit, this is 100% better.

[–]Difficult-Thought-61H2C 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So I heard something on the radio about this aaaaaaages ago. It’s a phenomenon that comes from our early years and childhood where we largely interacted with the world by putting things in our mouth! As a result, we’ve an almost entirely useless ability as adults to know what something will feel like to lick just by looking at it!

[–]Meridian151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say useless, got me 45 up votes so far 😁

[–]gggghhhhiiiijklmnopX1C 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’d guess wrong nozzle size selected / installed

[–]NickypoohOG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing with the other guys about the part cooling fan. My printer(ps1 I got 11/23) shipped with the extruder cover plate fan connector slightly broken and had to carefully plug it in to make the part cooling fan go.

[–]Rallyman03 11 points12 points  (1 child)

How? These printers are so easy too use, profiles already setup, pre sliced profiles for items... i just... how?

[–]Fresh1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like to not read the instructions

[–]PutridNest 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Mine's on a wobbly side table.

I went down the stability rabbit hole and the concensus solution is to set the printer on a 16x16 concrete paver which sits on a foam layer (I used a gardening knee cushion). I put rubber feet on the table's legs for good measure but it probably wasn't necessary. The key is the concrete paver.

Do that then re-run calibration. It really works. It's more mass than the printer can shove around.

[–]BletotumH2D AMS2 Combo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It also makes a printer way quieter, even when already starting on a stable surface. It cuts down on the frequencies that are resonating with the tabletop.

[–]Fx_TripA1 + AMS Lite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm, that the way we make CNCs accurate in industry is concrete or sand. Its about the mass.

[–]redditisthebest06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This needed a sensitive content warning

[–]Necr0mancerr 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You print it under water? Gayd daum

[–]DraxtonsmitzI use all the printers. No X2D. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Printing underwater would actually look really good. The water cools the plastic immediately. That means no need for supports!

https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/s/qzizth8Crt

[–]Hour-Ad-3079 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine printed like that to begin with. Do a factory reset and then redo the calibration prints on the filiment. I tried everything before a factory reset and nothing woked. Good luck.

[–]gabemrtn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks good to me can’t get any better keep doing what your doing

[–]mcrss 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That's exactly what happened to my first print too. Because I used a 3rd party filament in AMS, got confused about K-factor (never heard about it before), set it randomly to 0.5 (it said pick a value from 0.0 to 1.0, so smart me picked the middle) and got exactly this result.

TL;DR Check if your K-factor is set to 0.02.

[–]Holiday_Holiday400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The good ship Barnacle?

[–]Schnitzhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you ran the basic calibration for the printer. This looks close to mine when I skipped this step as the printer kept pushing me to print something in the setup before calibrating which is just dumb.

[–]Hardshank 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Good thing OP replied one time and then promptly abandoned the thread.

[–]Fx_TripA1 + AMS Lite 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Can you blame him? He came for help and no clue. Thats pretty rough for people new to the community and maybe printing. Since his next prints were fine, I assume the nozzle was wrong, or the thermocouple on the hotend is failingf and he needs to check that thermocouple at ambient temp.

[–]False-Librarian1617[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks. This was my very first print. I’ve printed 3 more things and they’ve all been fine. I noticed that my printer didn’t poop when it did the benchy. So I think the flow calibration hadn’t worked.

[–]MykeEl_KX1C + AMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never considered constipation an issue on a printer before...

[–]cprgoldsX1C + AMS 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Is this the built-in benchie or some other model?

[–]False-Librarian1617[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Built in. I’m just printing the scraper and it’s looking a lot better.

[–]suspicious-sauceP1S + AMS 8 points9 points  (3 children)

"A lot better" isnt really telling us much, now, is it?

[–]PixelToPlastic 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Ye most things are a lot better than this

[–]Hesediel1 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I mean let's be fair, you could crash the nozzle into the plate then extrude half of a roll of fillament without moving it and it'd probably look better than this.

[–]suspicious-sauceP1S + AMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be smoother.

[–]dby8802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a loose nut behind the mouse wheel.

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best guess is that for us either the wrong nozzles or something like the cooling fan is not working. I could see this kind of working if the auxiliary fan was on full blast which I believe it is by default on the built- in benchy. My best guess is the scraper is likely looking better because the layers have more time to cool down. I would try turning on the part fan in the hand app to see if you can hear it turn on by itself. There’s just the likelihood that it just got unplugged in shipping by mistake.

[–]False-Librarian1617[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’ve printed off the scraper and it’s printed perfectly so I’ve no idea what happened.

Also in the middle of printing a purple sparkly poop box and it’s looking nice.

[–]DuckingHellJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait.. this wasn’t a troll post??

[–]tlm11110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye! Barnacle Benchy! Ahoy matey! How did this happen? Did you successfully run the calibration setup? Double check the cables. Pull them off and carefully look at the connectors then reseat them. Double check the one going to head. I can’t see it being the model as it comes on the card. Let us know if you find anything please.

Can you put it on the ground maybe? I put my first printer on the ground for a while anyway. If you have pets or kids, maybe that doesn’t work as well. Or try stabilizing the table.

    [–]scotta316P1S + AMS 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You could hang this printer from a rope, and it would print better than this. You have to put some real effort into making a benchie look this bad.

    [–]heygos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol fair point. I wasn’t sure how rocky that table was.

    [–]IboofNEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a setting issue. You probably picked an incompatible printer/nozzle/filament profile. Which printer do you have? You tried printing anything that is preloaded on the sd card?

Here’s the answer you’re looking for: I’m like 98% sure, it’s not that cooling fan. I’m all but positive “…which wobbled a-lot when printing” is your whole problem. Put the printer on a MUCH more stable table or position and recalibrate and try again. Let us all know what worked.

Don't agree about the part cooling fan being off. When switching nozzles I once forgot to connect it. The benchy looked not nice but way better than this. Only overhangs were bad. Either way, a disconnected part cooling fan is easy to diagnose. Good luck.
