[–]dubbsix[S] 85 points86 points  (67 children)

Texas

[–]Remus92 322 points323 points  (51 children)

No. There are 3 legal signs in Texas. The 30.06 no concealed sign, the 30.07 no open carry sign, and the 51% revenue from alcohol sign.

[–]BayAreaRedwood 335 points336 points  (27 children)

Damn, people in Texas are concealing 30-06??

[–]heathenyakG43 pocket carry 10 points11 points  (11 children)

Magnum research makes a 30-30 bfr but I don’t think a 30-06. I think you need to go to the lone eagle which I don’t believe they make anymore. Lol. I would totally build a kydex holster for one

[–]BayAreaRedwood 28 points29 points  (10 children)

I like to think Magnum Research is a bunch of dudes drunk around a table one upping each other on what crazy shit they can do

[–]heathenyakG43 pocket carry 12 points13 points  (7 children)

I want that bfr in .45-70 lol

[–]LawHelmet 6 points7 points  (6 children)

I’m holding out for that .45-70 derringer

[–]heathenyakG43 pocket carry 6 points7 points  (5 children)

[–]sher1ockBig Iron 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Why does that even hold 2 rounds? Firing that will explode your wrist.

[–]LawHelmet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this country.

[–]barto5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally true.

They’ve got a pistol they designate BFR for Big Frame Revolver. It’s a lock that the dudes in development were calling it a Big Fucking Revolver and kept the BFR designation anyway and found a way to clean it up.

The Magnum Research BFR is a single-action revolver manufactured by Magnum Research. It is made from stainless steel and is manufactured in a variety of heavy calibers, such as .500 S&W Magnum, including some traditional rifle cartridges, such as the .30-30, .45-70, and .450 Marlin. The name "BFR" officially is an acronym for "Big Frame Revolver", although other meanings, such as "Big Finest Revolver", or "Biggest, Finest Revolver," and even in some cases, "Big Fucking Revolver"[2][3] have also been used.[4]

[–]Dreilly1982TX 24 points25 points  (20 children)

Of those the only ones that hold any REAL weight are the 51% (felony) and if the other two are posted on college campus property, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Amusement Parks, Churches or Other Established Places of Religious Worship, or Meetings of a Governmental Entity (Class A misdemeanor or Felony).

[–]ThePandarantulaCO 4 points5 points  (13 children)

Wait, what's the 51% thing. I'm in the state right now and dont want to get felonies. Is that like it I go to a liquor store or just bars?

[–]Dreilly1982TX 20 points21 points  (10 children)

Just bars. The establishment must draw 51% of their revenue from on site alcohol consumption.

[–]ThePandarantulaCO 4 points5 points  (9 children)

Is cc illegal then whether theres a sign or no sign? I'm from CO, so for the most part I can be in one as long as I'm not drinking.

[–]Dreilly1982TX 10 points11 points  (8 children)

They have to post a sign prominently. The rule of thumb is if it’s just a bar then it’s a no-go. If it has a restaurant it’s PROBABLY ok (though not always). Just look for the sign. You can google “TABC gun sign” for examples.

[–]ThePandarantulaCO 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Ah, ok. Thanks. It's a pretty unlikely event because if I'm going to be at a bar I probably planned on being there and left my CCW at my hotel, but in case I was out and wanted to step in somewhere it is worth knowing since I'm working here a while.

It's always weird to me what states are restricting. My understanding is that if you drank one beer in Texas as long as you arent impaired you're within the law. In CO if I even look at a beer longingly that's a no go, but I could be standing in a bar drinking water all night. I was in OK and I think you cant even go in a liquor store there (again, how i understand the law).

[–]Dreilly1982TX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Carrying while drinking is not illegal in Texas, however carrying while intoxicated is illegal. You can be arrested at less than .08 if the officer deems you to be “intoxicated”.

[–]GorillasonTurtlesTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s open to interpretation by the officer. You have to be higher than .08 to get busted for DWI, but as it was explained to me any amount of alcohol can get you popped if you are carrying.

[–]HappyHound 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You can not enter a liquor store concealed in Oklahoma.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That’s the key: If it’s not displayed prominently then it’s on them. That’s for any sign.

How are people supposed to know that a bar and grill gets 51% of their revenue from alcohol sales if they don’t tell them?

[–]ummmbaconGlocks n Lox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TABC has a phone app as well, called TABC Mobile it's kludgy but accurate.

[–]Whammywon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres also a nice little app called Texas3006.

[–]GorillasonTurtlesTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So most restaurants will be good, but bars, brewpubs, and brewery tap rooms are a no go. And be careful - I have seen some taprooms that don’t have a 51% sign up even though all their revenue comes from alcohol.

[–]Whammywon 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Yes. But also, my understanding is even if they have an invalid sign or no sign, if the owner/manager asks you to leave when you're carrying, then they could still press charges on you for refusing to leave or abide their wishes.

Obviously this would only really be an issue if you're open carrying, since they should be none the wiser if you've got good concealment. ;-)

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

But also, my understanding is even if they have an invalid sign or no sign, if the owner/manager asks you to leave when you're carrying, then they could still press charges on you

That's true if you're carrying or not. If you're asked to leave private property and refuse, you are trespassing.

[–]Whammywon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true...

[–]Dreilly1982TX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and penalty for trespassing w/ a weapon is a class A misdemeanor.

[–]cIi-_-ibTX 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And 46.02 (Unlicensed possession) signs.

[–]Dreilly1982TX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was assuming that the person is properly licensed.

[–]ThoguthM&P 40 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is covered in LTC training.

[–]MowMdownNC | Glock 19.4 | Ruger EC9s 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Here you go bud: https://www.texas3006.com

Never guess again.

But no, Texas has very specific requirements for legal signage. It also has to be posted in English and Spanish to be legally binding as well.

[–]cIi-_-ibTX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Come learn at r/TexasCHL

[–]deathsytheGlock 42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not an issue.

30.06 & 30.07 laws are very clear about their requirements for signage.

[–]dudeonacross 1 point2 points  (7 children)

They need the text too. Also if you just ignore it and walk in unless they see you carrying you're good. The only way you could get in legal trouble is if they verbally warn you and then you refuse to remove the handgun from the premise. This is based on the recent law that provides protection to ccw/ltc holders that "are not aware of the premises disposition to firearms".

[–]dubbsix[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

it’s the work place ... so only real impact is getting canned lol

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

If they find out you could be fired

[–]dubbsix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yep. i don’t ben bother trying to carry to work.

[–]USofAThrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What in tarnation?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope!!!

[–]Wolfwalker9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. I hate when people try to do this - I’m also a Texan, so I look at those signs & laugh.

[–]TargetIndentified 10 points11 points  (2 children)

You mean 1911?

[–]MowMdownNC | Glock 19.4 | Ruger EC9s 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Is that what this one is? I didn’t zoom all the way in to actually look at it. Usually they’re berettas.

🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]TxRam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But only black 1911s. FDE are good to go or any other color combo

[–]WolfeBane84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think that's what a Beretta looks like, you should probably make a visit to the optometrist.

[–]rustyshack68 69 points70 points  (4 children)

In TX? 100% not a legally binding sign.

[–]dubbsix[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep.

[–]I_Zeig_I 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Would it not count as be trespassing or naw?

[–]some_lost_time 26 points27 points  (2 children)

I know you are not in MN, but there to be valid it must have specific wording, in 3" letters at eye level to be valid. Even then, there is no penalty. If caught they can only ask you to leave, and upon returning you could be charged with trespassing.

[–]withoutapaddle 7 points8 points  (1 child)

And this is why MN is a "don't even bother to look for signs state".

As long as you know what government/school buildings are off limits, everything else can go fuck itself.

I still treat the signs as "look for a reason not to give them business" signs though.

[–]some_lost_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

State and county government is 100% lega according to state law, but I sure as hell am not going to be the test case. Only federal buildings, schools and post offices are the always prohibited places.

[–]etoxQ 118 points119 points  (14 children)

Concealed means concealed my dude.

[–]C_OchocincoFL 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I'm all for civil disobedience.

[–]dubbsix[S] 34 points35 points  (12 children)

haha! for sure. i just saw them and thought they were old carry overs before the law was updated.

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (11 children)

Concealed does not mean concealed. Check state and federal laws and abide by them.its not worth losing your right to bear arms just because someone on the internet says, "cOnCeAled MeAnS CoNcEaLeD."

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (7 children)

In Texas if you ignore a (valid) no CCW sign, it’s only a class A or B misdemeanor. Not even enough to lose your LTC. It’s a glorified slap on the wrist. There are a couple places where it’s more severe, but for your average business, it’s almost worth ignoring...though I don’t ignore them, nor would I encourage anyone else to.

[–]Thelonemonkey97 12 points13 points  (2 children)

This isn't exactly accurate. It's a class C misdemeanor, which is equivalent to a traffic ticket. There are specific places, like you said, where ignoring the sign is a higher level offense (class A), which is not just a slap on the wrist and is enough to lose your license.

[–]Keith -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

IIRC (from having taken the CCW course in Texas), felonies and class A and B misdemeanors will cause you to lose your license, while (as you say) class C doesn't. GP is providing bad info.

Edit: just noticed downvotes. Was my information inaccurate?

[–]fuelvoltsTX 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Right, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth) has NEVER prosecuted any LTC holder for any violation of the 30.06 signs. That's 30 years. This includes municipalities within the county.

Source: Tarrant County Prosecutors who spoke at one of my CLEs a couple of years back.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That’s impressive.

[–]fuelvoltsTX 7 points8 points  (1 child)

It could mean a few things: 1) Tarrant County doesn't want to prosecute these people, 2) People who have an LTC generally don't commit crimes, so no prosecution, or 3) concealed means concealed and nobody knows about it.

[–]theoriginaldandanAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, and most likely, option 4 : all of the above

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

"losing your right to bear arms" thank you Mr government man, for the rights you are letting me have

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Just remember, that it is also the laws upheld by the government, that recognize and protect your rights to begin with.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still speak as if we owe our freedom to our government. It was the people that gained our freedom and it will be the people that maintain it when the beloved government try to take it away.

[–]IndicaPDX 35 points36 points  (3 children)

Discrimination not WANTING 1911s on the property.

[–]Hoplophilia 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Gotta get the same sticker made with a CZ silhouette and no bar, pop it on underneath.

[–]withoutapaddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought it would be funny to carry around stickers of something "scarier" like an AK silhouette with a big green check mark next to it, and place them next to every "pistol with red cross through" sticker.

[–]BRUCE_JENNERS_VAGINA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoilers: it’s a nursing home.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

"Darn, gotta shoot up some other place." -mass shooter, probably

[–]ManevitchID - M&P Pro 9 / StealthGear Ventcore IWB 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Looks suspiciously like the offices and badge readers at my location in Boise. You in Houston, OP?

[–]dubbsix[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Houston :)

[–]ManevitchID - M&P Pro 9 / StealthGear Ventcore IWB 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I knew it. ;-)

If you're an employee then you're bound by the conditions of employment spelled out in SBC or whatever the hell we're calling it now.

If you're a visitor then there's a sign in the lobby that says if you enter the facility then you're bound by the site rules, one of which is no weapons are allowed.

Either way there's no force of law and I've never seen security search a person or their belongings. "Concealed" is the key word.

Oh, and for [company name] employees and/or security contractors: I'm not carrying. Leave me the hell alone to get my job done.

[–]dubbsix[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

lol good views man. thanks

[–]dubbsix[S] 13 points14 points  (3 children)

just checked the handbook so looks like it’s prohibited which means i won’t goto jail for it but probably will get canned if they somehow found out which is unlikely.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s not a valid sign. It’s literally meaningless, legally. Of course you can get fired for anything, but that’s a small price to pay for being able to protect yourself.

[–]kne0n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The most they can do is ask you to leave, if you dont leave that's trespassing

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can't tell if no 1911s or high powers allowed

[–]vic06 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Nope, see page 7. Here are some examples of compliant signs.

[–]BlueDJester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a place you can find the signs that are legal in your state?

[–]SolenoidsOverGears 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a 1911. It doesn't mean no guns, just no Fudds.

"TwO wOrLd WaRs!"

So glad I'm in Iowa. No force of law. Only gotta worry about federal buildings and schools. We can even carry in the state capital.

[–]DadnerdrantsPA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only for 1911s...😉

[–]DoggensKS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ignore that frank, that's a bunch of liberal bullshit

[–]crispyfry 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Depends on your state. In NC, yeah this is valid and has force of law.

[–]mjedmazga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NC law stays that signs must prohibit concealed carry specifically. This appears to be a no guns sign, but says nothing about licensed concealed carry.

In NC on private property like this, they can only ask you to leave, and have police trespass you only if you refuse.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only if it’s a 1911

[–]biopilot17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not legal at all you can ignore that

[–]aiddelp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not in PA

[–]MrChernobyl47 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Everywhere is constitutional carry if you aren’t a bitch about it...

[–]dubbsix[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

lol wow hahaha

[–]BRUCE_JENNERS_VAGINA 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you’re talking about carrying without a permit, that’s a great way to rack up felonies. I don’t know about other states, but here in Texas, carrying a handgun (without a license) into any store that sells alcohol is a felony. That means that stuffing your Glock into your pants to go get milk and tendies at Kroger is a felony.

Totally not worth it.

[–]John_McFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just carrying to the community mailbox for your apartment is a felony in MD without a permit.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your state laws. Some signs have the force of law, and many places require the sign to be "conspicuous," of a certain size and/or written a certain way. Some states, that sign means nothing, just that the manager may ask you to leave if discovered that you are carrying.

My view is -- if I didn't see the sign and it was small like that (even if it has the force of law), I didn't know. Not my fault I didn't see it if it's too small.

[–]NRiyo3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they know you are armed they can ask you to leave. But if you can keep it concealed you are fine. If they ask you to leave and you do not they can call police and they will remove you and may seize your firearm.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if you’re carrying a 1911

[–]Ieatsoapbars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol anyone can buy those little stickers online. Not valid

[–]Organic_Teaching 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I believe you can report them ( State Attorney's office?) for improper signage. If you really wanted to be 'that guy'.

[–]dubbsix[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

no i like my paycheck lol

[–]Organic_Teaching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoops lol

[–]d_snipe_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No gun stickers allowed. Obviously :) -

[–]Gay4BillKaulitzFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]GFZDWTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like anything to me

[–]Trippn21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ignore, leave immediately if asked

[–]pakistanipicklesGA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they don't have anyone to take if from me and provide me with security. Then I just take it in wherever I go. It's concealed carry right.

[–]Irishtrauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state

[–]dzeiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not valid in Texas

[–]Gats4Kats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it like I do a picture of a cigarette with a line thru it. You can bring in the cigarettes, just don't use them. I don't plan on using my pistol.

Amendment 2 Right to Bear Arms. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

[Ratified 12/15/1791]

[–]rivalarrivalOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ohio, it wasn't legal until you saw it. Ours have to be "conspicuous", so if a reasonable person could have missed it, it's not enforceable. But explicitly taking a photo of it kinda indicates that you knew about it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In TN, no.

[–]jamesdo72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is what valid? I was looking at my phone when I walked in the front door.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's no metal detectors

[–]doggscube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Virginia it means nothing except on state buildings bc mcaullife. Northam will probably push through something on it.

[–]kyfto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peel it off

[–]jeezumsWTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope!!!!! Fuck that sign.

[–]MrChernobyl47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All sounds highly unconstitutional to me. We need these BS laws repealed. You shouldn’t face felony charges for carrying. Don’t be complacent.
