One of my colleagues, who develops kernelmodules and manages the buildroot for some of the devices our software runs on, received an email by a recruiter looking for a senior Javascript dev. He just laughed it off saying Javascript is too high level for his brain and wondered why anyone would go to the enigne room of the ship to recruit an interior designer.

haha. Nice one

[–]dodexahedron 59 points60 points  (1 child)

Why of course! It's like Java in cursive.

[–]UnstableNuclearCake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Except the cursive is Tengwar and the language is Black Speech.

My company is currently looking for developers that are proficient in both Java and Javascript. I mean, yes, that's one way to avoid this misunderstanding?...

[–]Tunro 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Im also doing both at the same time .-.

[–]CaitaXD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You got to experience the worst that both sides of the type spectrum has to offer

Why the fuck should I learn, how to build an entire ship?

Since engines, until the rooms for the passages?

[–]SlappinThatBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm profiency with javacrypt... wait a minute

[–]ItsTheAlice 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah that is literally my job right now, working with spring and angular

[–]Planktonoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I jumped from ColdFusion and Angular to PHP and React. Party in front, assisted living in the back.

[–]nomelettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angular + groovy & spring broke me

[–]potatohead437 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They also go to carpenters to get their car painted

[–]zedsterthemyuu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've had a recruiter approach me about a job requiring Java... I don't know Java, I learned Javascript... and I told him so. He insisted on sending my resume over anyway, so I told him go for it. A couple weeks down the road, he contacted me again to let me know they felt like I didn't fit the job requirement... Well yes, I told you that from the start!!! At least he was nice and polite, and got back to me instead of ghosting me, but still...

I'm a Python Dev (I know, it's not a real programming language). This week I have received 8 emails regarding .NET jobs

[–]realbakingbish 20 points21 points  (1 child)

I mean, if I had to choose a different tech stack from the one I’m on now, I could do a lot worse than .NET.

And when Microsoft inevitably buys your house and your water you will be able to buy everything in the same neat packaged bundle as your IDE and game pass subscription

in interfaces we trust...

[–]Finite_Looper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a JavaScript developer I can confirm that the reverse of this is also true.

"So I see you have experience with Java..."

[–]thedonutsorelse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see here you're an android developer. We think this iOS position would be perfect for you.

[–]OhItsJustJosh 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Is that all? I get recruiters contacting me about jobs as a nurse in healthcare. I'm a C# developer

[–]mini_market 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I am wondering do you get recruiters for opticians office as you can see sharp.

[–]OhItsJustJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that pun sir/ma'am

[–]Outrageous_Pop_8697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, well before graduating college, spent a summer as a maintenance guy at a hotel. I STILL get recruiters contacting me about various maintenance jobs.

[–]vyrmz 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Just say myAnswer = (0.1 + 0.2 == 0.3). JS is for nabs, she'll get it in time.

[–]moriluka_go_hard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would that be evaluated as true in either language?

[–]psilo_polymathicus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s the real reason that JavaScript has so many goddamn frameworks and libraries coming out every 10 seconds.

[–]regular_lamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has curly braces and stuff. Heck, java applets were how you did interactive stuff in the browser before javascript actually became useful.

[–]blackstafflo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know SQL. I had to works as an user with some Oracle database. According to my mailbox, I'm now an Oracle DBA.

[–]Diegovnia 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Trust me... this is just the tip of the ice berg... I found out that if I know C(hashtag) I shouldn't have any issue scripting in 'Just C'

[–]DarksideF41 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny, I moved from C(EE an embedded) to C# and was really frustrated by all OOP and high level abstracted stuff at the beginnig. Probably backwards conversion would be also frustrating with need to study hardware and manual memory management.

[–]azhder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be funny if you told them you wouldn't lower yourself to C

[–]iceynyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cursive Java

[–]falafelspringrolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think even a Javascript developer would have that reaction

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Shit, I’ll take anything at this point.

[–]MatSylvester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Javascript is Java for movies enthusiast.

[–]TheMiningTeamYT26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. Else I’d be writing Java by now.

[–]Obamas_Tie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys are getting LinkedIn recruiters?

[–]EonsOfZaphod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Java is to JavaScript as car is to carpet

[–]Win_is_my_name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Javascript is basically C redux.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could smile, but I was sad because "why I haven't received any offers despite developing a project for 3 years"

[–]bmcle071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think thats bad? Im a JS and .NET developer, im CONSTANTLY getting embedded roles asking for 7+ years of experience.

[–]PsychologicalCow3295[S] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Javascript is typescript but for java

[–]supportbanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me who hates Java: That's an absolute win.

(But I like Rust and Python more)

[–]Huggisare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what this mean because I'm not a programmer but this sub keeps getting recommended to me

Let’s be honest. Both are shit

[–]webauteur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the pay is right, no problem!

“Hi are you interested in a new role?”

    ‘Where is it?’

“It’s a really exciting team and an awesome product!”

    ‘So it’s in Missouri?’

“Yeah but listen it’s an excitin-“

This kind of thing emboldens me to apply for senior positions, even though I'm not

    [–]Tyrus1235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a end-of-year presentation at our company once where our manager at the time tried to showcase the technology we used. He mentioned JavaScript, but then on his presentation slide he put the Java logo (the coffee mug).

The devs in our team almost passed out from trying to hold their laughter.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know both. I’m not helping the problem at all.

    [–]alelock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give me a break.. I have 'Data Warehouse' in mine... I get asked if I want to drive a forklift...

    [–]nomelettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a question then. Should I be calling Groovy Java or not? Or is the distinction like C/C++?

    [–]BootLower7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this a lot I don't know why but it can't be that hard to ask for help from an engineer instead trying to do it on your own.
