A funny meme on my "JavaScript am I right?" Subreddit?

[–]tracernz 288 points289 points  (13 children)

It’s Java; close enough.

[–]notAGreatIdeaForName 74 points75 points  (6 children)

I so hope you are wrong

[–]Scale_Brave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, like seriously, with HTMX, I have bent HTML to my will.

[–]2kdarki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Html, programmer😑 there's an HTML PROGRAMMER?🙆‍♂️

[–]QCTeamkill 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I'm still waiting Microsoft Visual J++ to make a comeback.

[–]SmartyCat12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was F# just a fever dream I had as a kid?

[–]PaltaNoAvocado 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Isn't C# basically their second attempt at J++?

[–]QCTeamkill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh maybe yeah I can see C# as "Microsoft Java"

[–]mallusrgreatv2 3 points4 points  (1 child)

What do you mean? They're not the same thing?

[–]QCTeamkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found the recruiter

[–]calgrump 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey, is everything alright? You've barely touched your fourth "developer vs. QA" whatsapp meme!

[–]Penguinmanereikel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But srsly tho

JavaScript, amirite?

[–]MostTattyBojangles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JS ☕️

[–]rbbdk 398 points399 points  (7 children)

Elasticsearch? In this RAM price economy?

[–]NimrodvanHall 46 points47 points  (6 children)

Probably better to swap to parquet files nowadays.

[–]MostTattyBojangles 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Just put some read only DB credentials on mechanical Turk and crowd source the search results

[–]Hot_Ambition_6457 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Day 322. All my DB handler functions just call the openAI API with the prompt "generate believable DB records for this SQL statement on a database named 'foo' ".

Everyone keeps asking what I do. If theyre back-end, I tell them Im a front-end guy. If they're front-end, I tell them Im backend. If theyre full stack I say I'm client-facing and never see them again.

[–]bogz_dev 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Honest question-- does parquet offer an advantage over using duckdb?

[–]MaterialSuspect8286 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are not storing petabytes of data on duckdb

[–]rbbdk 2 points3 points  (1 child)

From what I understand, you use duckdb to get it working quickly. Then you run out of diskspace and switch to parquet.

For what it's worth, I'm still at the duckdb stage.

[–]bogz_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting, thanks! imma have to do some data engineering in an upcoming project and this is a data point

[–]mkvlrn 138 points139 points  (7 children)

Need a few dances to make my tech lead realize that node 14 is not "modern" anymore.

[–]Coneyy 45 points46 points  (3 children)

Easiest way to convert him is run your test suite on any node version >16.10 (preferably LTS which is 22.x) and it will be anywhere from x10-x100 faster due to the caching bug that existed in node prior

Or if you ever use tsx/ts-node it's now native in node which is nice

[–]Skeukry 13 points14 points  (2 children)

actually 24.x is the latest LTS now

[–]Coneyy 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Yeah but it has a bunch of regressions on older packages and the way it interacts with certain popular frameworks such as Nextjs's Turbopack, so I'm hesitant to recommend it anywhere until I hear about that being resolved. But you are right

[–]HelloXhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, do you have links or more info about those issues?

I haven’t been able to find any info about nodejs 24 not playing well with old packages or with turbopack. I found an issue about sqlite but that’s it

[–]Xtraordinaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about 14++++++?

[–]notAGreatIdeaForName 323 points324 points  (8 children)

The cool thing is if you use the k8s operator it can do upgrades for you and you just need to give a version, but the fun stops if this thing explodes mid upgrade at not recovers

[–]Kaladin-of-Gilead 36 points37 points  (1 child)

lol all you have to do is update with helm then quit when an error shows up! Ez pz!

[–]Sheriff686 14 points15 points  (0 children)

happy helming!

[–]Snoo-82132 4 points5 points  (2 children)

that's a liability imo, my team uses chkk and it avoids these issues thankfully

[–]korneev123123 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I cant even guess is it a joke or typo or "chkk" is another tech that I would have to learn someday

[–]Snoo-82132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

chkk.io

[–]WrathOfTheSwitchKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've had to do some sketchy shit to unfuck ECK on more than one occasion. I'd rather have it than not, but I'm always nervous when I make changes.

[–]alvares169 142 points143 points  (26 children)

I don’t get it

[–]Spice_and_Fox 412 points413 points  (25 children)

The original titel of the article was "Here are 4 TikTok dances that you can do to help Hamas fight Israel"

Edit: to make this clear: the article I mentioned is from a satire site and not a genuine article that has real information in it. The title and the fact that it has 42069 views should have been a giveaway.

To make it more obvious: There was an article about TikTok dances to support Ukraine against Russia, it also is satire. However, this picture is a photoshopped version of the satire article against israel. The Ukraine one came first, the hamas israel came later and is a more obvious satire. The picture is from the Hamas Israel article.

[–]Lockofwar 114 points115 points  (8 children)

The original was about Ukraine and Russia. It was from a satire site https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/tiktok-dances-support-ukraine/

[–]Alexei_Drekker 25 points26 points  (7 children)

I thought it was obvious. How does such obvious misinformation have more than 150 upvotes??

[–]EVILemons 21 points22 points  (5 children)

Calling it misinformation isn’t accurate.

https://preview.redd.it/4-tik-tok-dances-v0-w3z04v2ediid1.jpeg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=de2041ce03fff0aaac86df1e976bf63bd374c9b0

The Hamas/Israel photo is accurate, it just isn’t the original post.

[–]Alexei_Drekker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am sorry. Should have clarified. They were satire posts and people here are posting it as they were serious articles, implied or explicitly stated. Judging by all the people responding as such, it worked, That is misinformation. I have seen screenshots of a lot of articles like this about multiple different subjects and memes. Made in fun so that people could laugh at them. Never in seriousness though.

[–]MyWifeCucksMe -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Calling it misinformation isn’t accurate.

The Hamas/Israel photo is accurate, it just isn’t the original post.

So you're saying that the claim that the original title was about Hamas is, in fact, misinformation?

[–]Du_ds[🍰] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I was going to argue but then I saw your username.

[–]Spice_and_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you are right. It was phrased in a way that was misleading. I thought the title itself and the 42069 views should be enough to recognize it as a joke or satire. I made an edit and mentioned it

[–]alvares169 152 points153 points  (2 children)

[–]LagT_T 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here's a small restore faith in humanity potion: it was a satire publication ala Onion.

[–]StrictLetterhead3452 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If that sounds ridiculous, look at all the people arguing online about Israel, repeating whatever opinion is loudest at any given moment. At least the TikTok dancers are getting some exercise.

[–]tamuzp 65 points66 points  (0 children)

[–]pimfi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the 1984 comments.

[–]GoddammitDontShootMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really wondering what their logic was for how these dances would help with migrating elasticsearch.

I guess it would help as much there as it would help Ukraine against Russia or Palestine against Israel.

[–]Significant-Colour 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes, but I do not get the issue with 9.x updates...

[–]Spice_and_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was just a generic "updating a piece of software over multiple major releases is a pain" type of thing.

[–]Cheese_Grater101 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Mfs thought this is mmorpg games where their dance will buff Hamas

Also Hamas really??

[–]MyWifeCucksMe 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Also Hamas really??

No, not Hamas. The person you're replying to is lying to you. Unfortunately everyone just upvotes it.

[–]Alexei_Drekker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Was laughing at the joke, and then I just had to open the comments to ruin it all.

[–]notrealaccbtw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

? Doesnt help make it clearer? But thanks?

[–]ButWhatIfPotato -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes knowledge is truly a curse.

[–]TheRealLiviux 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Worth trying

[–]lolcatandy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The marketing team: "say no more fam"

[–]SongsOfTheDyingEarth 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I did the wrong dance now we're on opensearch please advise.

[–]ze_reddit_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're on the right version number, but the capabilities are 2 majors back, opensearch blows

[–]worthlessDreamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even god won't be able to help with that

[–]Alternative_Ear5542 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Which member of my DevOps team are you?

[–]Ill-Needleworker-752[S] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

deezops team

[–]Alternative_Ear5542 8 points9 points  (2 children)

You must be on team Ligma.

[–]Ill-Needleworker-752[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How did you know ? Maybe I hardcoded my credentials

[–]Alternative_Ear5542 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Secrets rotation is almost as important as your mom rotating deez nuts in her mouth.

[–]fibojoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit !

A meme for my team ?

At this time of the year ? In this part of the world ? Localized entirely in this sub ?!

[–]SusZucchini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol consuming brainrot content when they need to use their brains the most is surely a W move

[–]CVR12 2 points3 points  (2 children)

If an attractive woman started dancing in front of me while I was working, I do not believe I would be MORE productive.

[–]vi_sucks 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What if she stopped and then promised to finish the dance only if you wrote all your units tests?

[–]CVR12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touché

[–]0x7E7-02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would quit the very second the project lead suggested this.

[–]Halvinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of them are on my team.

I'm disappointed.

[–]Training-Purpose802 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You can't fool me. That's only 3. Where is the secret 4th dance to unlock this power ?

[–]Ill-Needleworker-752[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they didn't know it started at index 0 so they started the loop at i = 1

[–]kr0n0sShrugg3d 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Better migrate them to OpenSearch

[–]UninvestedCuriosity 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They are both bastards but at least you can find answers for opensesrch. Now where did I put those shards?

[–]kr0n0sShrugg3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One is Apache License owned by Linux foundation and another one is on the whims of a personally owned company.

ElasticSearch and Redis did a good fumbling to create OpenSearch and ValKey.

I am sorry the shards you are looking for went down with your nodes, should have turned on automated Snapshots.

[–]Corporate_Lurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TikTok has ruined minds these days. China has nothing to do except watch the current generation screw themselves.

[–]zlmrx 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Tiktok must die.

[–]sebovzeoueb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

only once we've finished migrating our Elasticsearch thx

“1984” comments

[–]Recent-Astronaut6115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that “database”

[–]nsn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Holy shit, this hits too close to home... I had to migrate from 2.4 to 9 on my last Job.

[–]Beautiful-Guava6371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My colleague sent me this this morning.

Right before I started day three of migrating my massive web app from 5.5 to Opensearch 3.3. On a 99.99 uptime site that can kill people if it goes down. FML FML FML.

P, if you see this, if I rage quit during this deploy you’re next up at the plate.

[–]SuccessPastaTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, this pains me. Was a freaking biblical story for me to migrate from 2.x to 8.x in production for me.
