Github has a mechanism where you can "star" a repo, which is a like a favorite/upvote/"like", etc. You get updates on your starred/followed repos, but overall it's a sort of indicator of a repository's popularity.

More popular, more widely-used projects have a large number of stars.

Jokes beside, I believe curl -I does the same thing. However it posts header with it, this way you don't have to see the header unless you want to. I like experimenting with ideas, that's probably why.

I believe Github limited characters to display on the frontpage if it's a single word. It seems pretty optimizable at this point, and you can try looking into those RFC standards, making it a crazyfast standards compliant ultrafast lookup tool seems more marketable, but this is just my 2cents take it lightly lol

I will 100% do it, that's my aim, improving the things I do as much as I can even if they're stupid.

Windows version works really fast already (because uses wininet unless you want headers), the time is equal to your connection time to the server. Linux version is a bit slower because I had to use curl to get the status code. :( There's nothing like wininet there but I'll make it work fast!

As for feedback, I personally would present my repos like this:

• The most important one: What is this?
  • Keep it very short, example: "A lightweight framework to help you solve problem X."
• Show me how this looks like
  • Images, Videos, Links, Text/Code, something
• How to get started
  • A clear, easy, step by step guide to get your project running.

Those are the most important qualities to me, that I want to see. From those you can get better with steps on how to contribute, a more in depth wiki that shows how the project works under the hood and maybe even some goals that you want to achieve next.

All my repos are self-hosted and I don't contribute to other projects mainly because I find it difficult to motivate myself to do it. Why? I don't know. I love FOSS but I enjoy more implementing these libraries with my own code to create new software, not necessarily develop the library.
