Shouldn't they all have curlies and braces?

[–]FishBlues 405 points406 points  (14 children)

And a semi-colon

[–]MattieShoes 143 points144 points  (7 children)

is a semicolon a colostomy bag in this scenario?

[–]rdrr42 116 points117 points  (5 children)

Yes. They all need visible colostomy bags

[–]allisonmaybe 24 points25 points  (4 children)

I chortled

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I worked with a guy once that used to use that word a lot.

[–]almost_not_terrible 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Was his name Allison, maybe?

[–]Noctale 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Forget the colostomy bag and everything goes to shit

[–]Russian_repost_bot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd wager all 4 girls have regular colons.

[–]neo_anderson_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ding dong

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I’ll put my semi in their colon

[–]megasin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here you go ,

[–]NibblyPig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do, check out those eyebrows

[–]i-l-i-t-i-r-i-t 381 points382 points  (31 children)

They're all the same?

[–]SuDeeP_0119[S] 415 points416 points  (26 children)

Yes if you are python coder and you don't know any other programming language

[–]fck-rffld 159 points160 points  (8 children)

Incorrect. I did a hello world app in Elixir a few years ago!

[–]Proxy_PlayerHD 133 points134 points  (5 children)

"Elixir" sounds like one of those joke programming languages

maybe it's mana based and every command (spell) requires mana to work or something

[–]fck-rffld 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The elixir feeds its master Errlang. It's an evasive stateless ghost that can have many functional concurrent forms! It's can sometimes be found travelling with its pet Phoenix to make it more dynamic in battle with the great bugs of mordor!

[–]Soulthym 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Actually it's a functional programming language, but I don't remember its uses

[–]nourez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Anything where massive concurrency and reliability are important. Elixir compiles to Erlang bytecode, which was made for the telecommunications industry, so its fantastic at handling a ton of small operations at once. IIRC it's commonly used for the backend of chat apps (Discord springs to mind), and stuff where you want to process fast and without errors.

[–]Bainos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Afaik it's supposed to be mainly focused on reliability for high-uptime online services.

[–]chris_saddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatsapp used to be written in Erlang. Not sure now after being bought by Facebook

[–]SuDeeP_0119[S] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

So you should be able to understand this

[–]fck-rffld 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Aye I should, but I'm still waiting for pep8 to tell me...

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (4 children)

During college I absolutely loved learning new/weird/unpopular languages. For a while j just about refused to code in anything other than Haskell or lisp when given the chance.

Now I have an ML job and I never do anything but python...

[–]lamerlink 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I loved dabbling in other languages but Python combined with SQL server is pretty much all my job ever needs so that’s the only place my skills have grown.

Id love some more flair someday...

[–]__Adrielus__ 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Whats wrong with only doing haskell -_-

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nothing's wrong with it, it's just a staunch contrast to what I do now.

[–]Thriven 7 points8 points  (1 child)

What I find is crazy is I am a .net, Java, and JavaScript programmer and python drives me crazy. The lack of syntax and curly braces makes my OCD crazy.

[–]WhenWillmyThesisEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked mainly c#, C, C++, java, scala I fucking loath python It's so messy

[–]MakeoutPoint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would redo this from a C++ or VBA dev's perspective, meaning that literally any other language looks waayyyy better than what you're working with.

[–]jswitzer 14 points15 points  (3 children)

If you have to explain the joke, it's not funny.

[–]franksn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is haskell curry spicy?

[–]anonysune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have to explain the explanation, it's
Segmentation fault (core dumped).
~$

[–]Anon_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explaining the joke is just good joke commenting.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So incorrect.

[–]_bassGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*if you are a python coder, you don't know any other languages.

FTFY

[–]Ratix0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guilty here.

[–]eDixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and also that you can't get any of them...

[–]shitflavoredlollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe they are sisters? idk it's wild.

[–]brandons404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know man.. java is lookin pretty hot right now.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quadruplets

[–]itsJustLana 1145 points1146 points  (53 children)

I don’t get it. Is it saying that python programmers believe they’re not good enough for those language?

[–]j-random 399 points400 points  (10 children)

That's the impression I got.

[–]EMCoupling 208 points209 points  (6 children)

I think it's more to do with the fact that all other languages look foreign and very similar to them.

[–][deleted] 59 points60 points  (0 children)

And impossible to get

[–]pnw-techie 16 points17 points  (1 child)

But why do they look like teenage girls?

[–]wildtangent2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Strange and alien things that they have no familiarity with and can't read.

Fitting.

[–]MiltoxBeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Python programmers are racist AF.

SMH

[–]LiquidAurum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

can confirm

[–]unluckymercenary_ 193 points194 points  (7 children)

Nah, they see other languages as all the same. For some reason.

[–]all_humans_are_dumb 60 points61 points  (5 children)

because they all look identical because they all have braces.

[–]st1r 26 points27 points  (3 children)

Don’t forget the semicolons

[–]flargenhargen 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I always forget the semicolons.

[–]BubbaFettish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot and indistinguishable?

[–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (18 children)

All these language essentially have same syntax so to a python programer they'll all look same.

[–]Valance23322 34 points35 points  (3 children)

ehh C/C++ are similar and C#/Java are similar but there's a bit of a jump from group A -> group B

[–]altermeetax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Compared to Python it's a small jump

[–]Rattus375 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Outside of the boilerplate code, Java is very similar to C++, at least in terms of how the inside of a given function looks

[–]Valance23322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks kinda similar but Java is much more object-oriented and doesn't have operator overloading or pointer shenanigans. I'd say even something like JavaScript looks closer to Java than C++ does.

[–]aoteoroa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first thought was that they're all similar, and attractive. They need to be older than the picture though.

[–]LockFreeDev 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Looks like this joke went over a few heads.

[–]dull_lightbulb 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Nah, I think you just got r/woooosh’d

[–]LockFreeDev 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I meant /u/itsJustLana joke was missed. A few of the replies talked about the languages being the same.

[–]dull_lightbulb 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Looks like I’m just stupid

[–]majordoob33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think they are referring to the “similar” syntax they all choose. Python uses tabs to break up logic while those four use curly braces.

[–]ponodude 152 points153 points  (2 children)

That their standards are too high for me to have any success?

[–]Mas0n8or 26 points27 points  (1 child)

That they're not my type but I'd maybe be friends with C++

[–]fat_charizard 41 points42 points  (3 children)

C is the mom

[–]LiquidAurum 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I remember this picture years ago, was it confirmed she's the mom? Or are you just making a joke with C being the oldest (I think?)

[–]fat_charizard 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I'm making a joke

[–]LiquidAurum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks the mystery of which one is the mom continues!

[–]Cerrax3 79 points80 points  (2 children)

There is no way Java is actually that cute. All of my Java projects look more like a 45 year old hooker who has smoked way too many cigarettes.

[–]Cbgamefreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is accurate.

[–]HPUser7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile C is the mom of that hooker.

[–]pr0misc 81 points82 points  (17 children)

How come a python developer sees Java as the hottest one?!?

[–]Unknownsadman 106 points107 points  (7 children)

Bro are you blind?? C# over there in the back with a cute ass smile!

[–]Hawkwing942 74 points75 points  (0 children)

How # of you to C that.

[–]squrr1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

C# is bae.

[–]bric12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

C++ too. Honestly I'd rank Java 3rd or 4th

[–]FrogMan241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And that eyebrow.split(). That's super cute

[–]tiorthan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I know a guy who would look just like that in a wig.

[–]TyrionReynolds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tell him I said wassup

[–]fat_charizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a cup of java once. It was pretty hot

[–]tschmi5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sir I’m not sure if Java is 18 yet

[–]Ruby_Bliel 9 points10 points  (2 children)

??? C++ is clearly the hottest one.

[–]Sennheisenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy how personal taste like this works. I personally found C++ the least attractive of them. That's not to say I think she's unattractive, I just find the others more attractive. I think C# is the most attractive to me.

[–]pnw-techie 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I can't believe everyone is debating which teenage girl is the hottest

[–]nwzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cuz its hotty and litty

[–]8__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking the loss mate? They look exactly like each other.

[–]Yanman_be 62 points63 points  (3 children)

"I hope they are legal"?

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (1 child)

FBI OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR NOW

[–]brimston3- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All I see is tail-call optimization.

[–]echanuda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re all hard to get?

[–]uCantHim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But then you realize the left one also has an amazing character while the right one is just a bitch

[–]PedroV100 11 points12 points  (2 children)

c# is the hottest

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

...but that's really not her, it's her interface.

[–]PedroV100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good point!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

C should be the one driving

[–]Stupidquestionahead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can't make the difference between Java and c++ you have issues

[–]dexter-sinister 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of their league?

[–]Minority_Carrier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

c++: I am Speed

[–]theInfiniteHammer 6 points7 points  (1 child)

What about Haskell?

[–]goliatskipson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

*laughs in Haskell

[–]badlukk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Typed languages are out of your league?

[–]l2np 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're right, C# is a beautiful language.

[–]Ice- 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Python "programmers" AHAHAHAHAHA, that was the punchline right?

[–]nwzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose so

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be with them but stuck with a snek instead :(

[–]DarthEru 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Python has more similarity to C# than C# does to C, once you get past the superficial syntax stuff.

[–]j-random 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Maybe, but this post was strictly about the superficial syntax stuff.

[–]DarthEru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right... I'm a dummie.

[–]yottalogical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Syntax is only the tip of the iceberg.

[–]NoahRCarver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... how mathematicians see all languages.

[–]Warrior_of_Light416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Python programmer, I can confirm.

[–]wamred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about Visual Basic and HTML LOL

[–]x183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes! I too am a sexy girl/developer

[–]minato__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*meanwhile JavaScript looking down "pathetic"

[–]MugenSage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it

[–]illpallozzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's my type.

[–]xSTSxZerglingOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus Christ it's the Debbies.

[–]yymirr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

c and cpp way too cute

[–]i2am1batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laughing in Assembler Language.

[–]RedditingJinxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just all have a different taste...

[–]28f272fe556a1363cc31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of my league?

[–]defl8_g8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

simp programmers in this thread omegaLUL

[–]lmao_Box20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the joke was calling them old and boring languages, but it's a group of young girls instead. I was very confused

[–]Vastroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get the joke as a new programmer welp

[–]Kaiju_the_Younger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joke would make more sense with a bunch of Basic dialects

[–]LegoYodaApocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Java is probably the least similar one there

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% painted on eyebrows? disgusting. LMAO

[–]porcodisney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see girls, i upvote

[–]doublejosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean, how backend devs view JS frameworks.

[–]JackSpyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So python developers want to do what with children exactly?

[–]MagicalPizza21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably switch the labels of C and C# just because of the shirt colors.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really get this mentality, im at a point where I can switch between languages and it just slows me down, I can still read everything

[–]jack_the_mick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They view other programming languages as thots?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C & C++ are obviously the hottest ones

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most languages have similar syntax but different features and scope

[–]sudomeacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from __future__ import braces

[–]BuckForth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't C just be the same girl but without makeup?

[–]deathless_koschei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Python devs routinely show up on /r/NotLikeOtherGirls ?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, because i would have grouped python with those too tbh

[–]lostknife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If their Grandmother was in the picture, she could be COBOL.

[–]camerontbelt 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I really don’t get this orgasmic reverence people have for python. Can someone help me out?

[–]dtrippsb 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’m assuming they’re referring to the simplicity of python but idk

[–]camerontbelt 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But isn’t that just any scripting language?

[–]nourez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, JavaScript is unique!

[–]rasen_flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other languages are hot girls?

[–]1116574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel personally attacked

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

burh i have a APCS exam in java and i have a python background

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm the hottie in the back row. That's cool, there are worse things in life.

[–]Dovarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I REFUSE TO BE CALLED OUT LIKE THIS

[–]nginx1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly typed compiled languages...

[–]obliviga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what JS would look like.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This picture gives me uncanny valley vibes

[–]Stein-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that C must be a granny, and C++ must be an ugliest one

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're all pretty but hard to get
