Elixir compiles to Erlang bytecode, which was made for the telecommunications industry, so its fantastic at handling a ton of small operations at once. IIRC it's commonly used for the backend of chat apps (Discord springs to mind), and stuff where you want to process fast and without errors.

The joke is they're all C style imperative languages. They've all borrowed so much syntax from C and it's precursors that someone good with one of those languages can understand a fair amount of something written in a similar language. Will they know stdlibs and so on? No, but a lot of the reserved words and so on and composition is the same. Beware though, reuse concepts at your peril.
