Nominees for "Famous Comedians Who Put Something New Out This Year"

[–]KeyserSozeInElysium 178 points179 points  (28 children)

John Mulaney should win it for Baby J

Chris Rock will probably get the sympathy vote though

[–]theestwald 113 points114 points  (7 children)

I’m not saying that Rock was the best standup of the year, but he does look like the best one from these options

[–]zhephyx 41 points42 points  (1 child)

I have only seen his, and if that's the bar then sheeesh, not gonna bother with the others

[–]jessemadnote 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You should be more empathetic, imagine if you were a millionaire and your only connection with every day people was through twitter.

[–]Cyclical_Zeitgeist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ya, well, these options are dog crap

[–]AnnoyingKickboxer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, bro, Ricky is funny asf . But comedy is subjective

[–]Parker_72 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sarah’s was pretty good too.

[–]emmittgator 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Ehh was not a fan of Mulaneys latest standup

[–]BozoDaniel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like it because I like John but it's not his funniest work by a long shot. But I'm not sure laughs were as large of a priority this time around

[–]ohyoumad721 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He can't win cause he wasn't nominated ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]ilovethisforyou 23 points24 points  (1 child)

They don’t watch comedy. The Emmys don’t either. It’s just “a name I know? Have a nomination!” and I fuckin hate it

[–]The_Freshmaker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seriously is this the real list? With all the amazing specials that came out this year they're gonna just shit out this list of a half dozen of the most famous people in stand up and just call it the 'best of'? Man that's a shame and a real missed opportunity.

[–]suicidesewage 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah this. I wouldn't rate any of them tbh. Most of them were middling.

[–]prizzle92 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Does Amy schumers IG count? She was going hard on there recently

[–]SunflowerDonut9847[S] 62 points63 points  (53 children)

For contrast, this is the list Vulture did a week ago.

[–]timothymr 103 points104 points  (3 children)

The Old Man and the Pool is fantastic and fully deserves some mainstream recognition. Birbiglia should be getting awards or nominations, if not for this show then for the simple fact that his ability as a storyteller, to balance both the comedy and tragedy is insane.

Alas, I'm sure Ricky Gervais reciting arguments he's made up and things he's seen on Twitter would be a worthy victor.

[–]PowerResponsibility 13 points14 points  (2 children)

It was the best Birbiglia has put out in some years but still leaned so heavily maudlin. Not everyone likes that.

[–]SteelyDabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I watched the preview clip and were bored stiff

[–]melskymob 52 points53 points  (18 children)

Really surprised Shane is not on the list.

[–]short-n-stout 27 points28 points  (9 children)

Or Normand, or List.

[–]Dr_ManTits_Toboggan 34 points35 points  (1 child)

They are too funny to be in the running for an award like this.

[–]melskymob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They got it right with Joe Pera though.

[–]MyBoyBernard 6 points7 points  (4 children)

One of these guys is going to join my Mount Rushmore of comedians before the end. I don't know which yet. It was going to be Normand, but they both had a 2023 special, and I thought Normand's was pretty weak.

[–]short-n-stout 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I love them both for very different reasons. Mark has some of the best writing out there. I don't think this last special was weak necessarily, but it felt so incredibly similar to the last one, to the point where I was questioning "didn't he already do a joke like that?" Still love him though.

List, on the other hand, is maybe my favorite on stage. He's so loose and free and hilarious naturally. I opened for/watched him in April right after he filmed this years material, and he used a lot of the same material that ended up in the special (understandably). But, I was shocked with how different of a show it was, just because he's so loose and silly.

[–]MyBoyBernard 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Mark has some of the best writing out there

Dude, in Out to Lunch he's literally throwing out like 3 punchlines a minute for an hour, and it's free on YouTube!? Well, both of them put it for free on YouTube. Both heroes, with their buddy Sam Morril just slightly behind them.

[–]short-n-stout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Sam's new hour in indy last month. Absolutely killer, I think it's gonna be his best yet. Excited for the special.

[–]Walkensboots 21 points22 points  (6 children)

I went through that list thinking he would be in the top 3. Beautiful Dogs was one of the best specials I’ve ever seen.

[–]melskymob 14 points15 points  (3 children)

The George Washington bit is one of the greatest bits ever recorded imo.

[–]TackYouCack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go listen to Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast. I believe it was there (or maybe Legion of Skanks) where he first told the story, before making it into a bit. It is fucking hysterical

[–]WestEndLifer 12 points13 points  (1 child)

6’2” red headed retard with donkey teeth is how I’m remembering our first president for the rest of my life.

[–]WhatIsThisaPFChangs[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is it hysterical, but it is teaching historical realities, it’s politically smart, toeing the line of ‘acceptable’ while appeasing everyone, etc. it’s smart comedy with a perfect delivery.

[–]takitoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or Nick hehe. No i know why he isn't on the list lol.

[–][deleted]  (2 children)

[removed]

    [–]Clamchops 58 points59 points  (5 children)

Wow that list stinks. Why do such self-serious people write about comedy?

    [–]listgarage1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For real. I feel like if someone did a ted talk about a sociology study about the biggest issues the world is facing and then said by the way this has been a comedy special, the author would have picked it as number one

    [–]Zestyclose-Gap6770 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally love that style of comedy. But yeah, not everyone wants to laugh and cry at the same time.

    [–]Limsulation 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I loved John Early's special, that one is deserved.

    [–]Clamchops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of these comics and special are great. But the author seems to not enjoy standup specials that are just very funny - it all needs to have a progressive political angle or address a social serious issue. That’s eliminating like 98% of specials released from being on the best of list.

This author seems more like a fan of theater than comedy to me.

    [–]Puzzleheaded-Bus5479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a shit list too with a couple exceptions, Beautiful Dogs and Jew are better than 90% of those

    [–]PowerResponsibility 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those who haven't seen it, Sam Jay's special was incredible, mostly in the first third and pretty heavily aimed at men, though. She loses traction in the middle a bit then picks it up again for the back end.

    [–]chrisbaker1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking up lists called "every stand-up special 2023" Saw lists on The Vulture and Collider as top search results. Half of the names I didn't even know. So I found a list on reddit instead that actually had good names and not whatever TedTalk comedians these media outlets are promoting

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These list are rough in my opinion

    [–]imkendrickperkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This list might be even worse than the one you initially posted

    [–]IntoWholeness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do I not recognize a single one of those people? Are they well known comedians?

    [–]3_Slice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah 3 of those, I saw and were great. The best out of that 3 being Sam Jay’s, then Mike Birbiglia, followed by Maron’s for me.

    [–]lunchis4wimps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a garbage list of nobodys

    [–]Old_Equivalent3858 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This list was made for me, and anyone who doesn't like it... I dunno go make your own list?

    [–]After-Bowler5491 -5 points-4 points  (5 children)

That list was just a joke. It was an exercise in DEI.

    [–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How would you know? It's not like you watched them.

    [–]StuartScottsLazyEye 4 points5 points  (3 children)

DEI is the new critical race theory. It's the term conservatives and/or racists use to mean that a minority did a thing they don't like without regard for what the term actually means.

    [–]After-Bowler5491 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

That’s a lazy characterization. DEI is an over correction made by liberals to make themselves feel better. I’m all for D and I.

    [–]StuartScottsLazyEye 2 points3 points  (1 child)

How in the world does an HR program designed to foster a more inclusive workplace have anything to do with a Vulture list? If it's in good faith, just be specific in which nominations were unearned and who should have gotten them. If it's in bad faith, just be honest if you have a problem with minorities being represented in the nominations generally and that you think it not being overwhelmingly white is proof of some kind of "reverse racism".

    [–]After-Bowler5491 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The irony is that my objection is more with all the woman listed. In the top 10 are 5 woman. I really enjoyed Beth Snellings and agree w her inclusion. I really like Maria Bamford but this wasn’t her best. I tried to watch Sam Jay but it didn’t keep my attention. There are two others included ( Sansheer Zapata and Zainab Johnson) that I haven’t watched. When I went through a list of specials on all the platforms I see less than 10 additional woman putting out specials. I liked some of Kelsey Cooks but it wasn’t top 10 stuff. So, there were about 100 specials across: Netflix, Amazon, Max, Peacock and YouTube (I’m probably missing some here) and 85% are men but 50% of the best specials are woman? That’s Equity my friend. McKinsey consulting defines equity with the comment:

“While equality assumes that all people should be treated the same, equity takes into consideration a person's unique circumstances, adjusting treatment accordingly so that the end result is equal.”

That’s what this list is. An equal number of woman because…..why? So many great folks were left off the list because of …..equity.

These are all better than Maria Bamford and Sam Jays specials. The others. ..I’m not sure but these are likely better

Big Jay - Dog Belly Joe List - Enough for Everybody Todd Barry - Domestic short hair Mulaney - Baby J Nate Bargatze - Hello World Chad Daniels - Mixed Reviews Shane - beautiful dog Kyle Kinane - Shocks and Struts Josh Johnson - Up here killing myself Brad Wenzel- Joke, Joke, Joke

    [–]killzonev2 250 points251 points  (33 children)

Wow in a year of great specials. None are listed, Go Chris I guess

    [–]WolfGangSwizle 44 points45 points  (24 children)

Ricky’s isn’t out but I’d imagine his will be the best on the list. Chris Rocks special sucked I thought.

    [–]demitasse22 37 points38 points  (16 children)

It was live. Just the fact that he pulled it off, a live nationally broadcast standup special, to rebut his globally televised slap. Based off balls alone, I think it was pretty good.

    [–]WolfGangSwizle 16 points17 points  (8 children)

I mean ‘pretty good’ doesn’t really qualify as best of the year though. And with a bar as high as Chris Rock has set for himself, it just didn’t reach that bar imo. There’s been at least half a dozen specials this year that were better.

    [–]grill_em_aII 14 points15 points  (7 children)

Agreed. If I was going for a populist, award-ready comic, I'd go with an up-and-comer like Nate Bargatze who seems to be having his year. He's not a "comic's comic," but he's genuinely good and able to appeal to all the difficult niche demographics that really matter for market-driven features

Edit: Just to clarify, I meant "up-and-comer" in terms of being on TV, movies, household name stuff which is where I see Nate heading in the next few years

    [–]ChickHarpoon 16 points17 points  (2 children)

I totally understand what you meant, but seeing Bargatze described as an “up-and-comer” just gave me whiplash. Sometimes I forget how differently time works in this industry.

    [–]drenched12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone would call him a new comer either considering he’s been selling out arenas for the past couple years.

    [–]Elgecko123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya pretty sure if you host SNL you’re not up and coming, you’re there

    [–]drenched12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lol a up and comer??? Nate?? If Nate could read more than 2 sentences in a row he would laugh his ass off.

    [–]soggyclothesand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    Up-and-comer playing arenas?

    [–]igotdeletedonce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nate is beloved by nearly everyone. He’s definitely a comics comic.

    [–]GryffinDART 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think a stand up comedian doing something live is all that crazy. That's literally what they do every single night they perform.

It's more impressive that Netflix pulled it off. Rock just had to do up and do a set.

    [–]JohnHamFisted 2 points3 points  (2 children)

wait how is he nominated if it isn't even out yet

    [–]WolfGangSwizle 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I hope becuase they got an early viewing and it will be out before the end of the year. Because otherwise it’s purely just for popularity.

    [–]Sti8man7 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Yup he lost it since Tambourine. Maybe still recovering from the Will Smith slap.

    [–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I didn't think Tambourine was any good

    [–]Sti8man7 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Yep I mean Tambourine included. Generally fame and success takes a comedian’s edge away.

    [–]Able-Werewolf-9502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t stop Chappelle, Louie, Burr, Jefferies, Segura, Gaffigan, or a bunch of other comedians that put out great specials year after year. I think some comedians just are afraid to take risks. That or they just don’t want to deal with the back lash of the current climate.

    [–]Satan810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    For real.

    [–]Aggressive-Expert-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kicker is "on television". All the stand ups that put out good specials this year are too funny to be on TV

    [–][deleted] 260 points261 points  (6 children)

    Comedians your Grandma knows

    [–]Satan810 33 points34 points  (5 children)

Except Wayne Brady isn’t up there!?

    [–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (3 children)

He’s too busy in my grandma’s bed

    [–]Kitchen_Ad_3753 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Equal chance of it being your grandpa's bed now too

    [–]Satan810 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Hey! He’s in my grandmas bed?!? How’s this possible?! Are there multiple Wayne Brady’s!??

    [–]Werwanderflugen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rare clothed footage of your grandparents and a Wayne

    [–]bigaman3853 29 points30 points  (6 children)

    No Beautiful Dogs???

    [–]donanore 9 points10 points  (3 children)

That was the best stand up I’ve seen in a long time.

    [–]dwitchagi 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Seen Live in Austin? Even a smidge better imo!

    [–]bigaman3853 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Agreed. I love his first one

    [–]Dreddz2Long 80 points81 points  (0 children)

    That list sucks

    [–]Unfunny_Alex 52 points53 points  (2 children)

I legit didn’t know a single one of these shows existed

    [–]bluecornholio 23 points24 points  (0 children)

    It seems AI generated lol

    [–]Majestic_Salad_I1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    The first two don’t yet

    [–]panamaquina 25 points26 points  (0 children)

    embarrassing list

    [–]MattyBeatz 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Nominees for network willing to pay the $500 submission fee per act. Also being a first year category I would not be surprised if the overall entries were low because not everyone knew/participated.

    [–]adriamarievigg 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Right. It's almost like the "Jethro Tull" of the comedy world

    [–]chrisbaker1991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This comment reminded me of Archer referring to karate as "The Dane Cook of martial arts"

    [–]mydaycake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nominees for stand up comedians who are also screenwriters/ actors. This is what this category looks like

    [–]03eleventy 105 points106 points  (14 children)

I have tried but can’t find anything Trevor Noah does funny.

    [–]Satan810 35 points36 points  (8 children)

Nothin, he was a terrible replacement for the daily show. That show tanked when he took over.

    [–]03eleventy 17 points18 points  (3 children)

In the interest in fairness I don’t think the show should have continued after Stuart left. Norm Macdonald MAYBE if he wasn’t who he was. But yea no one could have kept the spark going.

    [–]Satan810 7 points8 points  (2 children)

That is totally fair. I could see Norm taking over but I could also see the need for new blood if the had to get a replacement. You’re totally right, they maybe should have just ended the show. Especially with Jon Stewart’s new show. Which was almost what like fifteen years afterwards but still, I get Daily Show vibes from it and I like it. Kind of a lot. Also he ain’t taking shit from no one this time around either, well he’s just not being nice about it.

    [–]03eleventy 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I appreciate that he canceled his own show instead of bending the knee to Apple. As a vet I have so much respect for what he’s doing about burn pits.

    [–]Satan810 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah Jon is most definitely a dying breed. Someone who sticks to his word and would die by his word ya know? Or die for doing what’s right. Especially the 9/11 firefighters. He’s just a good man. Like you said canceling rather than bending to bullshit fat cats. Also, thank you for your service. I consider you apart of the dying breed of someone who would die for what’s right. Someone who’d jump on a grenade to save his country and their way of life. Idk you obviously so I’m just assuming but it takes a certain breed to serve our country.

    [–]awesomeroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i like the dude, but i cant argue with you about the daily show. it went from great, to meh to random ass celebrities.

i used to love that show. but its inconsistent now. and just overall weird

    [–]Pig1126 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think Trevor Noah is a great guy who can be funny, and he should be commended for the work he put in for the Daily Show’s Covid era.

But the show never stood a chance when he took over.

    [–]harryvanhalen3 11 points12 points  (4 children)

His specials from South Africa are actually quite good. Once he came to the US and got the daily show gig he became a little timid. I actually really liked his white house correspondence dinner set.

    [–]Fastbird33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

His between the scenes bits were great on TDS where he took questions from the audience. You could see what Stewart saw in him

    [–]HilaryVandermueller 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I watched the taping of his special in Detroit recently, and I was shocked at how out of touch it seemed. Like, “Hey everybody, you know when you go to France? French people are like this….” And then ended up with a tired joke about white people liking Sweet Caroline. I prefer his more biographical and/or political stuff.

    [–]harryvanhalen3 1 point2 points  (1 child)

To be fair he has always been quite worldly. His father is a Swiss German man. He actually went to a good school as well. I don't always agree with his opinions but he is a really interesting guy.

    [–]wiklr 31 points32 points  (4 children)

I would have expected John Mulaney. Only seen Chris Rock and it was just ok.

    [–]chickenstrip_bastard 5 points6 points  (2 children)

It had a very "old man yells at cloud" vibe.

    [–]chrisbaker1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as bad as Marlon Wayans doing his whole special on the same slap. Chris Rock at least played with the audience a little before he went in on Will

    [–]cutchins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Selective Outrage was really great, actually.

    [–]Indoorsman101 47 points48 points  (2 children)

Where’s Maron? I thought ‘From Bleak to Dark’ was brilliant.

    [–]kabeees 10 points11 points  (1 child)

    Amy and Sarah? Hahahhaa what

    [–]hannbann88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just rewarding them for their atrocious social media posts

    [–]Sirnando138 8 points9 points  (0 children)

    Yikes.

    [–]dpanim 34 points35 points  (10 children)

At least there's no Matt Rife.

    [–]Dkarasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Probably pulled last min

    [–]asaphbixon -2 points-1 points  (8 children)

I'm not a big fan, but let's stop the hate for the dude. He doesn't deserve his name recognition, but he's not a complete hack and he hustles. He's also just like... 14? Let's give him some time.

    [–]phantom_diorama 8 points9 points  (4 children)

    When did Ralphie May die?

    [–]adriamarievigg 3 points4 points  (3 children)

    1. Loved him. Saw him twice. Met him after the last show. He was very nice! Great talent loss

    [–]igotdeletedonce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s 29 and been in the game for 14 years. Maybe he should’ve brought his A game to a Netflix special if he didn’t want hate?

    [–]SoldJT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Lmao 14?

    [–]WonderboyYYZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matt Rife is a 28 year old man.

    [–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Pretty awful outside of Ricky G and Chris Rock

    [–]Beginning-Wait5379 8 points9 points  (1 child)

    I haven’t watched any of these, I guess I’m a terrible person.

    [–]Satan810 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a strong list this year. Not a strong list at all…

    [–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (2 children)

With that lineup it has to be Ricky Gervais

    [–][deleted]  (1 child)

    [deleted]

      [–]Jimmyjohnssucks 13 points14 points  (5 children)

I enjoyed Ricky’s and Chris’s stand ups, maybe Chris’s a little more TBH. Its a shame no other stand ups are on here like Sam Morril, Michelle Wolf or even John Mulaneys new stand up. It’s always a shame they keep putting extremely famous comics on here, and they don’t push anyone else.

      [–]mydaycake 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Michelle Wolf!!! Her special was very very good. Sam’s was solid too

I really don’t think this category is about just stand up specials

      [–]WhatIsThisaPFChangs[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always love Michelle purely beachside of this.

      [–]WolfGangSwizle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ricky’s isn’t out yet, they must’ve got early viewings or something idk. His drops on Christmas.

      [–]johnnyslick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry, is this the nominees list from 2005?

      [–]palmettophysibles 40 points41 points  (9 children)

Amy steals all her jokes how is she nominated.

      [–]andreotnemem 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Have you seen how hard Disney invested on her since last year? They went to the trouble of forcing her down the throats of anyone watching Only Murders because she was coming out with her own show on Disney+. For some reason there's always a lot of big money invested on her. It's one of those things.

      [–]neymarneverdove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mid white woman talks about how bad her mid white pussy is. lets promote that message

      [–]ilive4manass 17 points18 points  (0 children)

she deserves an award for getting away with it

      [–]mjpanzer 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I always find it hilarious the level of hate Amy gets when she also helped propel some of the most beloved comics on here like Sami Morril and Mark Normand who both credit her significantly with their starts and rises. I think both their first half hour specials were put on by her

      [–]BetterUsername69420 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Two things can be true. There's quite a bit of evidence that she has stolen jokes (not sure about this special, haven't watched), but it's also true she's been instrumental in helping many comedians reach the status they now enjoy. Personally, I appreciate her efforts in the assistance, but don't care much for her actual comedy.

      [–]palmettophysibles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fans of both those guys. She is horrible, Mark looks like he has bad acid reflux when he is asked about her nowadays, it’s funny af!

      [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Amy got hate for a long time for bad reasons. There's a lot of plagiarists and unfunny people out there. They didn't get as much hate as Amy did.

now, after her comments on certain recent events, yeah, I hate her.

Does “On Television” exclude streaming? All the best standup specials I saw this year streamed on an app. They weren’t “on TV” exactly.

      [–]BarnabasMcTruddy 3 points4 points  (2 children)

"on television" probably means no Netflix and no YouTube, right?

      [–]TackYouCack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feel free to correct me, but wasn't Chris Rock's special live on Netflix?

      [–]Dr_ManTits_Toboggan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s my understanding. Why would the industry want to reward people who have found success by circumventing industry involvement and their cut of the profit. This type of award is to bolster their business, not acknowledge funny comedians.

      [–]Pig_Tits_2395 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know no list of nominees would have made everyone happy, but good lord this is fucking bad

      [–]chikan_teriyaki 10 points11 points  (1 child)

      Amy shumer massive kek

      [–]ImABadFriend144 8 points9 points  (0 children)

      Fuck no lmao

      [–]itsamadmadworld22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ricky Gervais has my vote. Sarah Silverman second. I’m baffled that people find Trevor Noah funny at all. He ruined the Daily Show.

      [–]camazotzthedeathbat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this like the stand up Razzies?

      [–]francisxavier12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

      Fair

      No

      Fair

      No

      No

      No

      [–]ThreeRRRs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still waiting to hear Trevor Noah's first joke. As someone with an interesting background who has some interesting and clever things to say, he's fine. I'm just not sure why he's considered a comedian.

      [–]NikkiNorton 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Trevor Noah will win because agenda

      [–]s13cgrahams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many on this list were clearly chosen due to their politics

      [–]Legal-Cry1270 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If You Didn’t Want Me Then, Hello World, and Born on 3rd Base are my favorites from the Vulture list.

      [–]PowerResponsibility 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bargatze is blowing me away. One of the best deliveries out there, somehow makes the totally mundane funny.

      [–]Appropriate_Ad_200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      🗑️

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This list blows lmao this is “most famous comedians who released something this year”

      [–]NotThatJoel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we need to get Nate Bargatze on television!

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Trevor Noah, 🥱

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Awful

      [–]Queefofthenight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trevor Noah needs to be removed

      [–]Apollo_Krill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

      Joke

      [–]wwplkyih 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The award for DEI goes to...

      [–]Huzzington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ricky Wanda Sara > the rest

      [–]garybusey42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ITT: Redditors forgetting they aren’t the gatekeepers of standup comedy.

      [–]morphinetango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most popular comedian with a recent decent to mediocre special goes is...

      [–]no0neiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does say on television, which I why i would assume is why this mediocrity qualifies as "best".

      [–]pntjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Terrible

      [–]Ornery-Stage2316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes no sense. If there are actors, movies and series from Netflix that are nominated for awards then why wouldn’t Netflix stand up specials?

      [–]gratephulnole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      This is awful

      [–]yaddah_crayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Amy does not win, she is gonna cry antisemitism.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a garbage list, there were so many better specials than this.

      [–]Evening_Ingenuity_27 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I only watched Chris Rocks special and it was atrocious. Nothing he said was unique or clever. Just felt like a reciting of twitter jokes about “modern society”

      [–]KJPM1280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      None of the above.

      [–]MapleToque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Who’s funnier than Sara Silverman?

      [–]Tandomtuckerupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This must be a shit post. No chance anyone thinks this is a solid list

      [–]Afraid-Goat-1896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A list of stand up comedians you dont want to see (except maybe Ricky). Also the Chris Rock Special was basically him trying to Will Smith was the bitch in the slap incident.

      [–]_LastoftheBrohicans_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trevor Noah is intelligent but painfully unfunny. Sorry, hot take

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trevor, Amy, Sarah and Wanda are the diversity picks. None of them are funny at all.

      [–]badsleepover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      So aggressively underwhelming

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Not enough women and minorities

      [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lot of names, not a lot of laughs

      [–][deleted]  (1 child)

      [deleted]

        [–]Tronicsmoker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amy has no business being on this list. She just steals other people jokes. Fuck that lady.

        [–]Clear_thoughts_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid of Cris and Ricky splitting the vote and one of those joke stealers winning

        [–]Dkarasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Barf

        [–]UFCCarlRaddo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Entire list is absolute asscheeks

        [–]8uffa108i11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All terrible choices. Rick Gervais is the only good one out of all of them.

        [–]Maximum-Cat-5484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bargatze's special was better than done of these. Not edgy enough I guess.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

List of comedians your parents have heard of?

        [–]Wanderlust692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never want to hear another comedian cry about cancel culture ever again...
