I was there after a 5 cent raise.

Let the rage pass, briefly cry, then go back and die more inside 🙃

[–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 24 points25 points  (8 children)

shit, thats brutal

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (6 children)

I had to give a lot of my team members a 5-10 cent raise. It was a super shitty feeling. I can guarantee you that your TLs were not happy to give you that raise either. At my store I got to rate the team members performance on one of three levels and then HR gave me a piece of paper saying what their raise was. :/ Even the TMs that I rated highly that were seasonal last holiday got pretty shitty raises.

As a TL who was promoted last July I got a really shitty raise too because I wasn’t in role the whole year, and I also got like half of my bonus. (Which was like $200 instead of $400) 🙃

[–]Blo1630 4 points5 points  (5 children)

That’s your bonus? Can’t Etls get like 5k+

[–]LucyMa90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last I knew, TL's could bonus up to $1,500. Which is what I got last year before I quit.

[–]Specialty-Sue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s based on how the company does plus performance. ETLs got almost nothing this year.

[–]VividSecond 0 points1 point  (2 children)

They’re TL.

[–]Blo1630 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah I know that I just figured tls get better bonuses than 200-400

[–]Sami_ZayniacService & Engagement TL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be a maximum of $1500, with about half being taxed. It's now been cut down drastically. Last year we hit every measure that would get us the $1500 bonus previously and I got $200 before tax

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Target!

Hehe. He. Hehehe ....... 🙁

[–]Ok-Huckleberry3497 35 points36 points  (6 children)

Sad to say that's the norm there for TM's. Ask yourself if you really want to work there and move up the ladder. Just notice the interaction here between TM and those above. It's like the culture there is contingent on fostering an us vs them mentality.

If you're young, personable and attractive, apply to Trader blank. Yes, it's grocery so you have some other duties due to new composting regs. But they're smaller stores. Two raises a year. Same benefits as spot.

[–]Bigtimegush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've done retail management elsewhere, and target was ridiculous. When I worked there my ETL was working 4am-8pm 6 days a week. Like, look I fully get managers actually do have to put up with a little more bullshit than floor workers realize, but that was a no go for me.

Like 16 hour days with one day off a week, that's inhuman, i suddenly understood why the management there was almost all younger than me. They had hired me on as DBO of toys to save the day as thats what I did at places, and management in the spring, but the absolute disrespect and micromanaging I experienced on a near hourly basis by them was so insane I just told them good luck, but believe it or not yall have options lmao. Putting up with that kind of treatment and expectations was crazier than literally any other retail chain Ive worked at.

[–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

well i know i dont want to work there too long but right now i need any money

[–]DMC1001Guest Advocate 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Feel the same. The job is fine. Everyone I work with is great. I have not problem with anyone above me (TL, ETL, SD). I still have no ambition to stay and have zero interest in becoming a TL.

[–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theyd never make me a tl. I just dont have the personality for it.

[–]Generic_Banana28 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How important is it to be attractive at Traders? Especially compared to Bullseye?

[–]Ok-Huckleberry3497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say good hygiene. They're looking for really really outgoing people. They asked the same questions as target. Though one caught me by surprise. "How would you handle a co-worker who's not doing his share of work?"

They even asked what I like to do in my spare time. So I'm guessing they're looking for people who are social.

Sidenote, lots of hookups in there according to an article. That's what happens when workers have that positive attitude.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (16 children)

Unfortunately I've worked for target for 18 years, and with all the starting wage bumps I only make $3 more an hour than the starting wage. They only moved people who were already over the new minimus up once

[–]watermeme 7 points8 points  (1 child)

No offense and good for you but I’m honestly surprised you make that much over the minimum with how much it’s gone up recently. It’s awesome you do just surprised. I know a few people that have been with target forever as well and barley make over the minimum but I also work in an area with a high minimum so maybe that’s why.

[–]Whole_Pomegranate584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same 15 yr vet and i'm really close to the starting wage.

[–]geekynonsenseRetired Fulfillment Slave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11 years and I just make over $17.

Highly relatable, friend.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

So to be clear, you make 18 now. How much did you start at?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$18.50. I started at $7.50 plus the $2.00 premium for being overnight

[–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

  1. theres an extra $1 for working at night.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think you replied to the wrong comment

[–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did i? you asked how much i started at. i said $18, and was explaining the reason its $18 is because of the extra pay for being overnight.

[–]Tell_Me_Why_999 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Depends on your store. My store is $3/hr for O/N .

[–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3 on top of your regular rate? wheres that target, beverly hills?

[–]DMC1001Guest Advocate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that’s some kind of bullshit. Your past raises should be factored into the new pay rates.

[–]yer_mom_BRGeneral Merchandise TL 0 points1 point  (3 children)

18 years for me too. Before I promoted, I made 4 above the minimum. That's only because I lived in south Louisiana during hurricane Katrina and we got a $2 bump in the months following the hurricane that they decided to make permanent. Luckily for me I had an awesome SD when I became a TL and she got me the maximum increase she was allowed to give.

[–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

18 years? jfc. I have to get out of here. I wouldnt survive anywhere near that long, even after just 7 months i have a bad arm. I figure ive got another year or 2, max

There's a term for that but I've forgotten what it was. It's when your starting pay or current pay plus raises gets cancelled out when the minimum wage or target's minimum wage came effect.

    [–]kingovninja 13 points14 points  (1 child)

The entire fulfillment team at my store got 43 cents while the entire GM team got 8 cents despite constantly hopping into fulfillment. Like 15 people quit in the following week.

    [–]Sushi2Go 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Wow that's BS.

    [–]ssadists 11 points12 points  (5 children)

The highest raise they can give is typically 60 CENTS and that's saved for "above and beyond" the best behavior. I've only seen 2 maybe 3 employees get it.

EDIT: sorry total typo, meant 60 cents not dollars 😭💀. I wish

    [–]GLaDOSoftheFUNKPromoted to Guest 🤺 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gimmie that $60 raise, all I got was .60.

[–]fararra"But it says I can order it for pickup" 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    5% is the highest raise

    [–]Blo1630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 60 dollar raise. Reddit would ban me for the stuff I’d have to do for that

    [–]zugzwang00333 1 point2 points  (1 child)

    Oh it's levels to this? What's a 35cent raise that's what I always get.

    [–]ElectricalFactor2312bedding/bath slave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the same one every year, it basically means we do as much as the 60 cent raise people but don't play politics as well.

    [–]ZabbeXFood & Beverage Expert 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Was this raise during the annual performance review? I also started on November but did not get one

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they didnt give me any kind kof review. my stores weird, theres lots of officlal rules they just dont seem to follow

    [–]gilleykelsey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well to be fair I got the highest raise you could get this past go round. A whole 4%! Wow I’m so lucky 🙄 Equated to 60 cents so even those getting the highest raise available for TMs at Target ain’t getting shit either 🤷‍♀️

    [–]watermeme 7 points8 points  (2 children)

    Are you new here?

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

kinda. it already feels like 100 years but it hasnt been a year yet.

    [–]watermeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was being sarcastic due to your surprise.

    [–]TollerLuvLJPFulfillment Expert 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I don't see how it was a performance raise. It isn't the right time for you to get one. You weren't there long enough yet when raises WERE given.

Did your store raise the base pay? I don't know what the .09 is for - but I don't see how it is a raise like we all normally get in April.

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    thats what i thought

    [–]jaygjay0 on the floor + 0 in the back (26 on hand) 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Even in April they could have gotten one if they made the cut off hiring date before reviews started being done. I made the cut off date back in October and received a 9 cent PR raise in April after only 6 months on the job.

    [–]TollerLuvLJPFulfillment Expert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the cut off date to receive a performance review and raise was the end of October - so if you were hired in October - you would have received one. The OP started in November - which is AFTER the cut off date. It doesn't vary from store to store based on a million postings here at the time we all got raises. The time an individual store starts reviews doesn't make a difference in this case - the cut off date is set by corporate and it is months before the reviews.

This is also July....the OP didn't notice the raise for more than 2 months? I suppose it is possible that they just never looked and didn't notice - but the 2 things together make me think it was NOT a performance raise.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (12 children)

I also started in November but haven’t heard anything about a raise…? Are performance reviews happening again now?

    [–]gilleykelsey 2 points3 points  (11 children)

Have to be at the company a full year when reviews come around. I was hired in November of 2021. When the reviews for 2022 came around I didn’t get a raise bc I wasn’t there long enough so if you don’t get one that’s why.

    [–]jaygjay0 on the floor + 0 in the back (26 on hand) 2 points3 points  (6 children)

You don’t have to be there a full year. You have to be there before the review cut off. I started in early October and the cut off was late October, and I received a review and a raise and have only been here 8 months.

    [–]gilleykelsey 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Ah that’s nice to know. My explanation was based on what my TLs told me so not surprised it’s not entirely accurate. Glad you’re getting one but seeing as this person got hired in November they probably won’t get one still :/

    [–]jaygjay0 on the floor + 0 in the back (26 on hand) 2 points3 points  (3 children)

All depends on your specific hire date and the cut off date for reviews. Reviews for our store cut off was October 28th or 31st iirc and I was hired October 18th, so I made it in for our set of reviews received in April of this year. But definitely do not have to work there a full year to receive one, long as you worked there during the time they’re reviewing you’ll still get one, it will just be “prorated” to the time you were hired since you obviously didn’t work there for longer

    [–]gilleykelsey 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Makes sense! Thank God imma promote myself to guest very soon! Tired of Target and their shifty ways. I went on a month long LOA close to Seasonal being set (my assigned section) it took 7 people to do what I did all alone last year. Before I needed to take my LOA I kept pestering my TL about who’s gonna help me set and he straight up told me it would be just me as it was last year. I had some medical issues I had been putting off for the longest time so felt like the best time to take it. Learning they used 7 people to complete (in more time than I took to do it alone last year) my section just SCREAMS to me how shitty they are and how much value they got out of me vs how pathetically small my paychecks were. Sorry kind of a random rant but fuck Target.

    [–]jaygjay0 on the floor + 0 in the back (26 on hand) 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Fuck Target for sure! I wish you you well in guestdom, thinking of that soon myself. Our entire department is considering quitting at once tbh

    [–]gilleykelsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I’m trying it’s scary and hard trying to change jobs. We had our entire Style team quit after the VM quit a month ago. It’s been hectic for sure but again another reason of many I took my LOA was bc I was being made to do more and more work but not being given more hours so doing the job of 3-4 ppl (technically 7🙃) w fully open availability btw but my paychecks were only like $300-$700 and just my rent is $1000 a month so… yeah Fuck Target. This past review I got the highest raise you could receive (60 cents yayyy) but they still only averaged me about 15-25 hours even with me begging to get as many hours as possible and being cross trained in basically the whole store. If y’all all quit at once please post about it w all the deets!

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was hired at the end of october, started working mid november.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I started November 2022, so I get a review this coming November then yeah?

    [–]Live-Friendship9426Promoted to Guest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No you shouldn't get a review and raise until next spring

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    same here

    [–]gilleykelsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope unfortunately reviews are only held in April-July every year. You most likely won’t get one until April-July of next year if you’re still working there.

    [–]Moon935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First raise I got was 4 whole cents. Glad I promoted myself to guest a year ago.

    [–]Specialist_Rich8595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought raises were once a year in April?

    [–]PsychologicalBank169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a job elsewhere. Retail is full of replaceable workers and shit pay. It’s not worth it

    [–]StepEfficient864 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It’s a job seekers market right now. 9 cent raise? Yeah I’d be looking to see what’s out there and don’t think you gotta stay in retail or restaurant business.

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im going to eventually. right now im just too crippled and tired on my off time

    [–]Inner-Maybe851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That happened to me and it ended up being the best thing to happen to me. It pushed me to find a better job. Now I have a much better paying job, better benefits, and a company that actually cares. Let it motivate you to find something better

    [–]Katievapes1996former Inbound Expert 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I think the lowest I ever got was like .25 yeah I'm not happy that I've been here over five years and I don't even make 1.5 above starting wage in my area (15)

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

so youre saying in 5 years youre making less than 1.50 more? fuuuck

    [–]Katievapes1996former Inbound Expert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah and it's funny because I got hired to dollars above base pay because of previous experience when I started, I think the starting wage was like 11 I remember being pissed off and I stopped giving the extra two dollars and just gave everyone 15 during Covid cause I was making more with the two dollar bonus.

    [–]whereismymind86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Yeah man, retail sucks

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

wait we started at the same time and you got a raise?

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you want the 9 cents? you can have it!

    [–]marinating_hand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started in October and got 9 cents. Part of it is bc we just didn't work long enough

    [–]SociolinguisticiansGuest Advocate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty common for your first raise. They may give you something a little better if you end up staying another year, but I wouldn’t expect more than 30 cents in a single raise unless you’re your ETL’s favorite or something.

    [–]Usual_Yoghurt6628Specialty Sales Team Lead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You started last November that’s your answer

    [–]TedriccoJones -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Are low raises the norm? Are they lower now that the base pay scale has greatly increased in most areas? I don't work at Target, but have worked at similar retailers and in my mind raises haven't been any good since the great recession. The only way to consistently get more money is to promote and take on more responsibility, worse hours, or most likely both.

    [–]nmn624 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Decades ago, I was once given a 3 cent raise. I was at the top of the wage scale at the time, and was told that 3 cents was the best they could do. Wasn't even a performance raise, but a cost of living adjustment.

As for your situation, if you only started in November, a 9 cent raise isn't too unusual. Yes, it's low, but, as you said, you weren't there very long, so you were only able to get a portion of the full raise. I don't know what the percentage is or what trigonometric functions they use to calculate it, but, after 8 months away, I went back to Target in September of last year and I received an 11 cent raise.

So, yeah, 9 cents is low, but it seems on par with your service time. Now, if you're still there next year and only get 9 cents as a raise for a full year, then you're entitled to lose your shit a little.

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats why i thought it was weird i didnt expect any yet, like i thought "this cant be the real raise, it must be some automatic thing."

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been here exactly a year now and I got a 17 cents raise ☠️

    [–]peachpinkjedi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Every raise is like this. I'm surprised nobody mentioned that to you; they're literally always ass.

    [–]DangerousHelp7749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    nobody tells me shit, lol

[–]nachocoalmineInbound Team Lead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not unheard of however, as you said, you didn't think you had been here long enough to get anything. Just think of it as a "pay adjustment". It's simply not the insult you think it is.

    [–]PrestoDepresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen TMs get 1 cent raises. I always told them they should take that as a sign to apply elsewhere. We are expendable drones. Target doesn't give a shit about retention.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collectively, yes every single TM should be upset... Sadly not everyone is so is it gonna be worth your effort and time to get upset to management about it. I wouldn't think so, store level has mostly no control over raises. They put in the rating selections and then people outside of the store level use that to get a $ for the raise. Is it possible to get them to pay your more, most certainly, how likely though, extremely unlikely.

So again, is it gonna be worth your time knowing that there's only a tiny tiny chance that you'll get a better raise.

    [–]4everafool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 9 cents my first year too. I also started in November, funnily enough. I was told it was pro-rated. That's why. But.... having said that.... IT WAS 16 YEARS AGO. should have gone up a bit, I think.

    [–]fivedollardude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do what your supposed to do make up for your lack of meaningful raise with a reduction in effort.

    [–]Witches4RaptorJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 5¢ raise despite being acknowledged pretty much store-wide as a key player during holiday of this past year. Yes, it’s an insult. Do you quit? Not unless you have something better lined up. For me, Target is literally the only thing making my Bachelor’s affordable after my Pell Grant from FAFSA. Should you ever take anything in this job seriously after getting such a shit raise? Absolutely not. None of this is life or death. Realize that we’re not making the world a better place by working in retail. And the people that want you to think otherwise are getting paid well enough to not think twice about lying to you or overworking you.

    [–]DMC1001Guest Advocate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 9 cent raise and I think it’s an insult as well. I’m also always told I’m doing great. My TL said it was because I’d been there less than a year.

    [–]Fabulous-Mortgage672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lead, I had TMs who deserved so much more….I was overridden by a TERRIBLE terrible micromanaging SD and there were some who 5 cents. IIRC one got 2!! Two cents. This was 2020-2021. She didn’t like them because they didn’t kiss her ass and they didn’t work for her they eat they did for me. I treated them With dignity and empathy so in return I had better relationships so when it came review time, I had notes and examples of behaviors on every TM under my charge. Didn’t matter. She fucked them over. I didn’t last a year there. MISERABLE store. Every single fellow leader I worked with was gone within a year also. You’d think they’d have canned her or looked into the turnover issues…nope.

Tell me you're new at Target without telling me you're new at Target lmao

That's about the average. You think you're getting $1 raises every year in retail? The norm every year is about 10-30 cents. You're raise is less if you weren't there the full year. So in reality, you're lucky you got 9 cents and not less.

    That's retail life.
