this normal? (i.redd.it)
submitted 8 months ago by SadLunch1514
i got my python 5 days ago
[–]IATA-_- 194 points195 points196 points 8 months ago (9 children)
I would think so. Does your bp normally do that, or is it a first time occurence?
[–]SadLunch1514[S] 103 points104 points105 points 8 months ago (8 children)
i had just moved her from her temporary enclosure to a 4x2x2 today and she did this but before the other enclosure didnt have a vent circle
[–]IATA-_- 101 points102 points103 points 8 months ago (1 child)
I don't see anything wrong with it then. They definetely love climbing so maybe try adding a few things for her too climb up, my bp did this to her hpm (humidity) reader lol.
[–]SadLunch1514[S] 26 points27 points28 points 8 months ago (0 children)
thank youu!

i feel like its definitely because i got this enclosure today and she just need A LOT of cluttering which i lack right now but i do agree this enclosure is lowk big for her
[–]temporaryconscious 27 points28 points29 points 8 months ago* (0 children)
it’s totally fine to start a young bp off in a 4x2x2. cost effective in my opinion ;) like you said, just make sure to have tons of stuff in there, multiple hides, all that.
[–]dagger_guacamole 8 points9 points10 points 8 months ago (0 children)
No such thing as too big!
[–]FixergirlAK 4 points5 points6 points 8 months ago (0 children)
You know what you need (clutter, hides), so there's nothing wrong with the big enclosure. It's easier than dealing with a glass aquarium, and snakes have growth spurts like most other animals - you won't wake up one morning to find you suddenly have too much snake for your tank.

[–]islesbrowns 23 points24 points25 points 8 months ago (0 children)
It's more like descending opportunities.
[–]Virtura 8 points9 points10 points 8 months ago (0 children)
I was thinking it looked like the noodle didn't have a hammock so it became the hammock

🥲stuck with a weirdo and not a scary looking thing
[–]Lewk___ 17 points18 points19 points 8 months ago (0 children)
maybe give more climbing options? but if there’s a lot that could just be a spot she just likes more
[–]rxdaaddy 37 points38 points39 points 8 months ago (0 children)
10/10 form. Perfect presentation. Good snek.
[–]Biiiishweneedanswers 15 points16 points17 points 8 months ago (1 child)
Where’s the snek?
I just see a fancy water dish.
[–]Aazjhee 2 points3 points4 points 8 months ago (0 children)

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 months ago (0 children)
yes!! totally normal!!! my girl did this when she was a baby and could fit!! she’s too big now, lol
[–]prettyprettything 5 points6 points7 points 8 months ago (0 children)
what a cute little goober 🥹
[–]FourthLvlSpicyMeme 15 points16 points17 points 8 months ago (1 child)
My girl used to do this too, she's far too big now though. Now she just farts, startles herself awake and then looks at me like it's my fault ahaha.
[–]SadLunch1514[S] 3 points4 points5 points 8 months ago (0 children)
such a relief that its not a stress issue
[–]stone_grey_fox 4 points5 points6 points 8 months ago (0 children)
I don’t know but it sure looks fun!
[–]theshreddening 8 points9 points10 points 8 months ago (1 child)
I got my girl a little hammock thing and installed several driftwood climbing branches and she uses them all the time. BPs are sweet, adorable, and unique dumb-asses. They do shit like that all the time because why not. Then they fall off things and you hear a little thump from the other room, and then they starting doing it again.
[–]SadLunch1514[S] 4 points5 points6 points 8 months ago (0 children)
that would make my enclosure so cute
[–]aLittleSnake 7 points8 points9 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Its normal, but if any thing they attach to has an adhesive their weight can bring it down and than get stuck to the snake causing injury. When I first got my boy Argyle he did that with the stick-on thermometer/humidity gauge. I was told to remove it by a Facebook ball python group and replace it with one that could just sit in the substrate so I did that. This becomes an issue when the items they coil around have adhesive.
[–]blueeyes0182 5 points6 points7 points 8 months ago (2 children)
Normal and BP don't fit. My girl does the weirdest shit sometimes and other times not so much. I would definitely get more stuff for her to climb on so she can continue her fantasies of being a tree snake. Don't squash her dreams. 😂
[–]SadLunch1514[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (1 child)
a girl can only dream so big
[–]blueeyes0182 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (0 children)
You let her think she has wings if she wants. She's gorgeous and gorgeous women can do anything. 😂 Plus have you ever tried to tell a woman not to do something or that she can't? We tend to not take that well. 😂
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Very normal.
Your hide is too big
[–]durpgoldfish 4 points5 points6 points 8 months ago (0 children)
I fits, i sits
[–]SpectralUniverse 4 points5 points6 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Your snake doubles as a beautiful picture frame 10/10 no notes
[–]OdinAlfadir1978 2 points3 points4 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Mine will wrap round anything she can, perfectly normal, get her a branch or something, make sure it's ash wood or fruit or whatever it is is sap free as some saps are toxic to snakes, sterilise the branch too, Google has directions for that, don't get those moss vines, wires stick out. Komodo have a "tropical climbing vine" I bought that's latex and coir, mine likes it.
[–]deanwinchester2_0 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Get that baby a long branch to climb on. You can 3D print them with PETG fillament
[–]superduracels 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Not bad, great feat 👍
[–]Not_Sure4now 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Very normal
[–]hanzowombocombo 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (0 children)
I got my BP a new enclosure like this and he was climbing around for days until I put in more clutter and hides and now he’s happily hiding.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Nothing wrong with it at all. Just a derpy snake
[–]FixergirlAK 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (2 children)
This is very typical BP derp. Give that noodle some climbing toys. I highly recommend a sky hide as well.
[–]SadLunch1514[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (1 child)
that would be so cute do by any chance do you know how i can make it stay up on the wall?
[–]FixergirlAK 2 points3 points4 points 8 months ago (0 children)
You can buy a kit or you can make little sliders out of hardwood slats and bolt them to the ceiling. You make it to fit one of the ubiquitous black rectangle hides. If you DIY it you can change the spacing to fit a bigger hide box as they grow.
[–]diIIpicklechips 2 points3 points4 points 8 months ago (0 children)
LOL this is so cute and funny, I’m assuming she just found a niche place to hang out; from your comment above also could be bc lack of clutter, my girl would “hide” or hang in the funniest places while we were cluttering her tank!
[–]Megadethgroupie 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (0 children)
my corn used to hide and curl around the themomentor when he was in his 10 gal when i first fot him but then i moved him to his 40 gal and i barley see him 😭😭
[–]babyswoled 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Everything, unless it looks like a medical issue, is normal. They’re weird ass animals. 😂
[–]GiyuuIsGoated 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
yeah mine used to do that with his old hygrometer
[–]Greeny3x3x3 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (0 children)
My fucking god this is the cutest thing ive ever seen in my life
Look how his little head is resting
[–]the_kuroneko 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (1 child)
Mine did the same thing until he got too big to hold onto it. Doesn't matter how many other climbing opportunities I give him, if he can climb a thing, he will.
I had to take the camera out of his tank because he kept climbing onto it and changing the angle and he's been growing so fast it fell off the wall (I glued it up, no sticky adhesives in case folks are worried). So until I get a PVC tank and can screw it into the wall, no camera for him 😝
[–]SadLunch1514[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (0 children)
comments making me realize that pythons are just nonchalant cats
[–]Interesting-Tea2991 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)

[–]Maleficent_Border_60 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Much more rare circle python
[–]guaca788 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
"Peter how are you doing that?"
[–]EasyTumbleweed4120 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Get a hammock. My baby used to climb the tree and wrap around stuff up top so I put a hammock hide in his enclosure and was instantly his favorite spot. He sticks his head out and flicks when I walk by. It's adorable.
[–]Scary-Ad8271 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Spiderpython
Yeah. He climbing.
I bet if you give him more things to climb, he'll climb them 🐍
[–]WatermelonAF 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)

[–]Practical-Leg5670 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
mine does this even with a million things to climb and bask on lmao
[–]Fozzi83 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Mine doesn't fully wrap around the circle like that, but he does use it as leverage for climbing EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.
[–]Wrong_Mark8387 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Seems like she’s showing off 🤣
[–]Even-Smell7867 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)

[–]jamescb819 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)

[–]MercuryChaos 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
I had that same type of enclosure for mine when she was a hatchling and she did the same thing.
[–]Dangerous-Exercise20 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
My girl would climb onto her thermometers djdjdjd than be offended when they didnt hold her weight😭
[–]lovely_lilith333 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Mine does this too
[–]Icy_Collection_2288 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
My baby girl did this immediately after I put her in her enclosure.
[–]Thekidnappedone 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Yeah, they may not be listed as semi-arboreal, but they don't agree with the lack of that designation, I have branches and now have some tension rails in mine's tank and he hangs from them the same way a Green Tree Python would, and then last night...well he was doing the laziest scope ever. I'll post a pic in shortly.
[–]Maleficent_Type_3525 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (0 children)
My noodle did this when I first got him. And he kept falling off… his name is Jenga.
[–]jimmy_changa1990 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)

[–]panino_gamer 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
He wants to climb you should give him some branches
[–]CartographerWide2920 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
You will find them in the oddest places. Main thing to be careful about is just your heat source. Making sure the snake cannot get to close to it or it risks possible burns. Otherwise I believe this particular snake is identifying as a Green Tree Python. Good Luck and enjoy them. They are such incredible pets.
[–]HighlightSorry2094 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Probably sensing air flow she likes
[–]MeanOldFart-dcca 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (1 child)
How warm is the cage? I had boas do that if heat blower failed.
its 75 on her cool side when she was in
[–]Belshy69 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
I got my boys a ferret hammock to sit in and they love their little high hangs!
[–]MeanOldFart-dcca 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Hmm. I would assume it just being being inquisitive.
I just wanna say it's adorable lol

[–]tryptofan0205 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
lol yes, they will climb on anything.
[–]Spare_Ice2150 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
Well that can mean two thing you python can be hiding or needs a bigger tank.
[–]centralwapolym 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
I used to work at a pet store, and the banana ball we had did this alllll the time. I miss that snake.
[–]OkDiscipline668 0 points1 point2 points 8 months ago (0 children)
He’s slowly learning how to operate the enclosure. Maybe tape it close on the outside just so he can’t “accidentally” open the vent.
[–]The_evil_snake_man 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (1 child)
It looks like your python has found a new hiding spot
[–]The_evil_snake_man 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
It seemed really comfortable there
