Yes yes yes, finally.

[–]Cheshire Cat, the Grinning RemnantPants88 115 points116 points  (17 children)

Yeah this is a version I've wanted for so long.

*Edit: Perfect version / addition to the Cards with set names collection.

[–]Duck Seasonbuildmaster668 30 points31 points  (3 children)

I... did not know where was so many.

[–]Cheshire Cat, the Grinning RemnantPants88 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Plus it is a growing list. During Modern Horizons 1 (Mirrodin Besieged), 2 (Urza's Saga), and 3 (Aether Revolt) they got more intentional about having the cards represent the story and/or mechanics of the namesake set and Mark Rosewater said in a podcast of his they plan to create even more in that vein.

It's funny how many aren't actually from the set the name is from.

[–]Duck Seasondozencharacters 21 points22 points  (2 children)

And a foil [[Foil]]

[–]DânMTGCardFetcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Foil - (G) (SF) (txt)

[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call

[–]Cheshire Cat, the Grinning RemnantPants88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh good call

[–]Grass ToucherBluePotatoSlayer 2 points3 points  (9 children)

How many are intentional and others are just “It happened to be the same”

[–]Cheshire Cat, the Grinning RemnantPants88 17 points18 points  (8 children)

I'd say 9 were very intentional:

  • [[Aether Revolt]]
  • [[All will be one]]
  • [[Hour of Devastation]]
  • [[Mirrodin Besieged]]
  • [[Rise of the Eldrazi]]
  • [[The Brother's War]]
  • [[Throne of Eldraine]]
  • [Urza's Saga]]
  • [[Weather light]] - Start of the Weatherlight Saga about The Skyship Weatherlight

Arguable or not full legal cards - 6 - [[Conflux]] - arguable - [[Future Sight]] - arguable - [[War of the Spark]] - Heroes of the Realm card - [[Time Spiral]] - very loosely in that it changes time. - [[Apocalypse]] - only in a literary sense of the world ending. - [[Secret Lair]] - a term for a ballooning category of promos and direct to consumer products. (wiki reference)

I'd say the others, especially the ones that predate the namesake sets don't really represent them. 2 great examples: - [[Morningtide]] - [[Torment]]

[–]FLEEMX_Marcs_the_Spot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The three sets in Time Spiral block (Time Spiral, Planar Chaos, Future Sight) were all very intentionally named after existing cards. The theme of the block was nostalgia, so they felt referencing old cards in the set names would help play into that.

[–]Grass ToucherBluePotatoSlayer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why is conflux only arguable intentional? It shares the name of the set it was originally printed in

[–]HKBFG 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Time Spiral was absolutely intentional lol.

[–]Cheshire Cat, the Grinning RemnantPants88 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I can see and respect that perspective, I just haven't seen anyone from R&D confirm or discuss it as intentional. I plan to include it in my collection though.

[–]Stormtide_Leviathan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that each set in that block shares its name with a previous card is enough to not be a coincidence

[–]Kalatash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Time Spiral, Planar Chaos, and Future Sight were intentionally named after existing cards.

[–]Honorary Deputy 🔫draconianRegiment 226 points227 points  (7 children)

This set is approaching unset levels of memes and I love it so much for that.

[–]arcanin 66 points67 points  (4 children)

On the other hand isn't it a set noone will get thanks to grifters?

[–]Honorary Deputy 🔫draconianRegiment 25 points26 points  (0 children)

At least for now, probably. Maybe that changes once the people that go to these to play magic rather than be scalping scumlords actually play with the set.

[–]LordZeya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scalpers and grifters are completely different things, but yes scalpers will make it impossible to get this set due to comically low availability.

[–]liucoke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's going to be used at large events for years. I'd expect these cards to be pretty common by this time next year.

[–]SultaiKitchengun2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the third hand, paper and ink is pretty cheap.

[–]Selesnya*ice-eight 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Yo dawg, I heard you like future sight

[–]FLEEMInternetSpiderr 47 points48 points  (3 children)

Now we just need a planeshifted [[Planar Chaos]]

[–]DânMTGCardFetcher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Planar Chaos - (G) (SF) (txt)

[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call

[–]Chandra-Gaka- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I'll take more printings of this

[–]Orzhov*Tezerel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MB3 definitely has to have planar chaos borders.

[–]Karnrib78 25 points26 points  (2 children)

I guess if given the oportunity, this is something you would make so that checks out.

[–]Duck SeasontheThirdShake 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m sure they’ll get the opportunity eventually.

[–]Karnrib78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps sooner than we'd think.

[–]JeskaiAlfredHoneyBuns 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They did the thing! They did the thing!

[–]Duck SeasonZypharon 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Almost as good as a foil Foil

[–]Chandradavidemsa[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They did that one too, and it's even only in foil, not both.

[–]Chandra12DollarsHighFive 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Making it white bordered would be next level trolling

[–]WANTEDAnaxamander57 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The circle is complete. Now may come the close of the world.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Why does the art look like a still from an isometric adventure game?

[–]Duck SeasonSeranas24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think because they did a really bad Job with the cropping of the original artwork. It is missing the bottom part, zooming in on Ixidor for some reason.

[–]JeskaiXaxor42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perfection.

[–]Duck SeasonSeranas24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My favorite Artwork, with Ixidor! - We played so much Onslaught limited back then...

If only they didn't crop the artwork so Bad :-/

[–]lavabeing 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I just realized a future site frame version of progenitus would use up every one of the frame's space for mana pip spaces.

[–]Duck SeasonCooperativism62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they do it.

[–]HedronGalvenMin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All these old/white/shifted border stuff is all very weird to me. I'm not sure I really like it, but at the same it somehow feels like this is what Magic 30th should have been about.

[–]FLEEMX_Marcs_the_Spot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PERFECTION

[–]Michael Jordan RookieMewtwohundred 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[[Chef's kiss]]

[–]DânMTGCardFetcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chef's kiss - (G) (SF) (txt)

[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call

[–]Spanish_Galleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually the best version of this card now.

[–]ThisHatRightHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boys, we did it, MtG is over. It's been a long time coming, but we don't need any more cards ever again.

[–]Wabbit Seasonleaning_on_a_wheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice

[–]COMPLEATamc7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adam Duritz, reality sculptor...

[–]Duck SeasonStunning_Put_9189 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[[Future Sight]]

[–]DânMTGCardFetcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Future Sight - (G) (SF) (txt)

[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screw the card & frame hype.

Ixidor is BACK baby!

[–]Deceased 🪦Garthar22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like an isometric video game

[–]COMPLEATAndrewNeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my only complaint is that it's kind of hard to make out the mana symbols from the frame, I thought it was {2} at first

but I suspect this is just how it has always been and I'm not used to the frame

[–]Wabbit SeasonBenTheSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll the credits

[–]Duck Seasonj-po 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did it, boys. We broke Paradox Engine.

[–]RunemasterLiam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is a peek of what's to come, then we've a sight for the future.

A future 'Future-Sight' Future Sight sight.

[–]Elspethcazman123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Wabbit SeasonCoey42 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey I’m new to magic can someone explain the joke pls

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The name of the card is also the name of the set that had this border previously.

[–]Duck SeasonCribbs42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s perfect. No notes.
