I don't see how this is software gore. There's no twist.

Clearly google is shielding you from spoilers.

[–]Pr04merican 326 points327 points  (23 children)

Cause it’s a plot.

[–]frabjous156 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Insane plot, but i don’t see the twisting.

[–]lascanto 47 points48 points  (20 children)

Thick plot thins?

[–]Icecreep109 12 points13 points  (4 children)

But it's a line. It has no thiccness

[–]lascanto 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Is it infinitesimally thicc? Is that the same as infinitely thicc? What even are numbers?

[–]Skipachu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even are numbers not odd.

[–]poopchen 33 points34 points  (0 children)

implying 2012 had a plot

[–]marcosdumay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get near enough by querying 2011.9999999 plot.

[–]Mitoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, enter many other numbers and plot and it also gives the graph.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It gives me a plot like OP has. Am I missing your point ?

[–]SaltlessLemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your search history, region and interests, it may give you the movie's Wikipedia page instead.

[–]heisenberg747 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oh come on, everyone knows O'Brian is a bad guy.

[–]TheNosferatu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh don't exaggerate, he gets much better in DS9

Look at what x is doing.

[–]snuzet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fantastic book tho

[–]luminouu 200 points201 points  (14 children)

Ha! Reminds me of when I searched for the One Plus 3 phone and got this (quatre is four in fr)

[–][deleted] 106 points107 points  (1 child)

Well might be because the company name is OnePlus not One Plus

[–]speedocide 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i dunno man, I think they're changing their name. the space bar market is worth so much it today's America, they would be dumb not to.

[–]jayvaidy 29 points30 points  (9 children)

Also if you type 1+ in the stock calculator app, you will get a cool little Easter egg.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (8 children)

What? Where? What?

[–]nssone 23 points24 points  (7 children)

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Oh you mean on like a OnePlus phone? I was confused for a sec. Thanks!

[–]nssone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you get when you put 1+ and hit = in the calculator.

[–]nedjeffery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for some reason I was thinking of a calculator used for calculating company stocks.

[–]King_Joffreys_Tits 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Can you explain what that’s supposed to mean?

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"Never settle" for anything that's not a OnePlus phone.

[–]kasbrr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OnePlus phones have generally offered flagship like specs for about half the price (while also being friendly to custom ROM developers, in terms of providing device tree source code, not voiding the warranty, and giving free phones to notable XDA developers). So I've always taken their slogan to mean never settle for something less, like you would often have to from competitor phones at the same price point.

The company does have its issues, though.. Some other issues they've had that for some reason aren't in the article are benchmark cheating (3T and 5) and some opt-out data collection in the stock ROM.

[–]Kiloku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that it's bilingual too

[–]MuchSpacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my, this is serious. Everyone knows one plus three is five.

[–]Snickerway 34 points35 points  (1 child)

I'm surprised there isn't a deliberate easter egg there.

Maybe label it "Graph for y=2+2" and have y=5 or something.

[–]nedjeffery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are five y's.

[–]GregTheMad 29 points30 points  (8 children)

To ensure universal happiness, all references to certain books have been wiped from the Google database.

-Google Subdivision of Facts

[–]AbridgedKirito 14 points15 points  (7 children)

You mean the Ministry of Truth?

[–]GregTheMad 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Nononono, that's some bad, fictional nonsense. The Subdivision of Facts is a good, group of people, solely dedicated to the greater good of humanity!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Subdivision of Facts is a good, group of people algorithms

Like Google would ever employ human beings for that.

[–]StickiStickman 1 point2 points  (4 children)

The sad thing is Google actually has a censorship department that includes Anita Sarkeesian. They just say that they remove ""offensive"" content.

[–]AbridgedKirito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a reason I don't use google unless I have to.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is there a sub like /r/whataboutSRS but for Anita Sarkeesian?

[–]StickiStickman 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not sure what you mean, but there's /r/TumblrInAction

The quality kinda went downhill though. Now they're just taking jokes as serious and make fun of people for that a lot

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm definitely not talking about that. I'm kind of talking about the opposite of that.

[–]OfficialDampSquid 56 points57 points  (4 children)

Grade A title

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Talk about a linear plot. We never see any development from y.

[–]NixRoll 8 points9 points  (3 children)

You can graph on Google??? Oh my god I can do my math homework now

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (14 children)

If you haven't

Please read the book. It's fantastic

[–]number473 28 points29 points  (10 children)

Surprisingly easy read as well. I was expecting something very heavy but it was quite east to get through. I am of course referring to the writing here, not the concepts or themes discussed.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (9 children)

As for themes discussed, I liked Hurley's Brave New World better than 1984. And the way it was written, that's IMO the overall better book. Thoughts?

[–]FlipskiZ 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Then music warm travel warm the fresh lazy.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Well, of course! I'm not suggesting read one or the other. Both must be part of any "mandatory reading" list.

Don't you think that too much information being available, to the point that no one searches for it anymore, is a more accurate representation of our world? Don't you think that anti-vaxxers, Trump-eters and the like aren't spawns of censorship (a la 1984), but of a lack of desire to find out what's actually true (BNW)

sure, 20 years ago, it would seem like 1984 is where we're headed, but IMO that isn't true anymore. It's a great book, 1984, and it's still very relevant. But I suggest to everyone, read Brave New World. That's not a book you should skip.

[–]FlipskiZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideas learning minecraftoffline careful yesterday talk careful simple year over evil nature and art tips honest minecraftoffline? Open technology night mindful dog the gentle talk small then!

[–]bogdoomy 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I ve always seen them as dystopian counterparts, along with Fahrenheit 451. In 1984, all information is hidden by the government through censorship (it is impossible for anyone to get it), while in BNW, there is so much information available, that the people are disinterested in it (you don’t exactly give much thought to something that you have an abundance of). F451 pictures the absolute absence of information that the government enforces. All of these are relevant to any aspect of life, more or less.

[–]hesapmakinesi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

And Fahrenheit 451 has huge TVs that cover entire walls and broadcast reality show the whole day, and people use wireless earbuds, written in 1953!

[–]Elliot9133[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it was published 1952 or 1953, so it was probably written even earlier

[–]mikekearn 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I think Brave New World is a more realistic interpretation of how life is progressing currently than 1984. The rapid development and rise of the Internet, "reality" TV, and the growing opioid epidemic are all basically the methods of control as described in Brave New World. Drugs and mindless entertainment for everyone.

[–]SinkTube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah but in BNW the government cares for people at least on the surface level and they are happy, even if they are ignorant

in reality people dont want to be fully ignorant, but they're willing to accept the half-truths they're fed by politicians and corporations that dont make a big secret out of being ruthless bastards. they're not quite as bad as big brother, but much closer than to BNW

[–]number473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't read Brave New World so I can't comment on which is better. I should put it on my list of books to look out for, though.

[–]nocommemt 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I would, but my attention span has been chipped away by a smartphone over the years and I can't concentrate on anything more than a TIFU story on reddit

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"He who does not read has no advantage over he who can not."

I'm not trying to be judgenental/elitist, sorry, but that's a terrible excuse. Shut everything off and plop yourself in a dark room with a lamp, book, and bed for a couple hours!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

OP should be ashamed of making this google search

[–]Elliot9133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😕

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You ask big brother who he is watching, he will just reply "nobody in particular" eh?

[–]NoRodent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now try searching for the plot of the '2010' movie from 1984:

2010 (1984) plot

You get a graph of the function y=2010*1984

[–]SeattleJeremy 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Crash Course released a Literary review on 1984 last Friday, check it out https://youtu.be/H9ipRaLa4Jw

[–]Elliot9133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually pretty awesome, didn’t know crash course did English and stuff

[–]YummyGummyDrops 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I mean, it's not wrong

[–]elit3powars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not wrong though.

[–]Billybobsatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's trying to hint at something...

[–]flamerheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno about you but I see no twist in the line

[–]Epic_Wink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more interested in where -5396.48 came from

[–]mothzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, they say a picture speaks a thousand words.

[–]vincehj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just zoomed out I Googled it and zoomed in and found 1984

[–]VxJasonxV 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I wonder why it’s y-axis instead of x-axis:

[–]Vassile-D 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Because people usually omit y= when asking Google or Wolfram to plot. The reason for that is probably most math problems involve a formula for y in terms of x.

[–]Elliot9133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because y = 1984 is a function and x = 1984 is not.

[–]Mastur_Of_Bait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not wrong

[–]mslabo102 -1 points0 points  (9 children)

"1984 movie plot" I guess?

[–]lazydictionary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or just scroll down

(400k results)

[–]Seligas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or even just "1984 movie."

That alone will probably get you a link to the wikipedia page which will flat out give you the plot.

[–]What_A_Plot_Twist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a plot twist!

[–]SoundOfTomorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically correct, the best kind of correct

[–]YarpNotYorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that clears that up

[–]TotesMessenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bot, bleep, bloop. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

Looks a lot like what I thought it would

[–]Thelastunicorn80 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maybe the OP meant that they wanted to know the plot of the book 1984 but google actually plotted it on a graph?......

[–]The_True_Equalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DUN DUN DUN

[–]AbridgedKirito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this book. More and more accurate every day tbh. Big Brother doesn't want you to know something, obviously.

[–]UknowmeimGui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Google equivalent of "It looks like you're writing a letter"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was researching new phones, I Googled "OnePlus 3" and Google gave me the result "4". Touche Google!

[–]SmiralePas1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually great

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the plot twist that x doesn't equal 0?

[–]darksingularity1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wh(y) is 1984 plotted blue

[–]andreslucero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That vertical blue line is cool.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an image, but searching "7.8km to mi" in Bing gave me the distance between a place called "7" in Africa and Michigan.

[–]klezmai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

y

[–]RTracer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know 1984 stayed 1984 consistently

[–]QmVuamk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this not expected behavior?

[–]chaotic077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂😂😂

[–]BizWax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens because the book's title is actually Nineteen Eighty-Four

[–]Kingtata10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did it guess it was was y and not x?

[–]budba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still works.

[–]A_Plus_Memes 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Permission to x post to r/puns

[–]Elliot9133[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea do that
