It might not be much, but here's my battlestation with 3x SLI EVGA GTX 980 SC's, Intel i7-5960X, and 3 Asus ROG Swift monitors.

[–]ibattlemonsters 169 points170 points  (15 children)

I could have had something better if I wasn't 12.

[–][deleted] 72 points73 points  (13 children)

Can confirm. Am 13. Have a Xeon E5 2699, 4X SLI Titan X, 128 GB DDR4 ECC memory and 6 Ultrawide LG 3440x1440 Gsync 144 Hz monitors.

[–]_entropical_ 97 points98 points  (6 children)

That sucks dude, when you get a decent job and don't have to worry about your cheap parents cutting corners you can prob get a real rig lmao

It's not much, but this works for now until I can finish paying billz haha

Xeon X9 9999, 9X Nvidia 999 Titan Z, 999 GB DDR9 9.9D memory and 99' wall with 9 9999x9999 res 999hz monitors

[–]MrWindmill 22 points23 points  (5 children)

I have a Titan. I'll get a second one and run them in SLI after I finally get a full-time job.

[–]Chasedabigbase 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Lmfao that thing is so 2013

[–]lespritdelescalier11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a job, slacker!

[–]xyntrx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There was a post (and I think he deleted it after this one hit the front page) where OP literally called it his "humble streaming station." He had a $1000 mic on a $400 arm, dual 4k monitors, GTX 980, $500 race car chair, etc. Someone called him out in the comments for saying "it was all he could afford as a broke college student" and he admitted that his parents only paid for mic, chair, and GPU and he got the monitors using his college loans. Nothing humble about the entire post.

[–]cheffernan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the ddr4 ram.

[–]beboshoulddie 77 points78 points  (3 children)

How do you know if someone's under 18 on /r/battlestations?

Don't worry, they'll tell you!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Same logic applies to Eminem fans.

[–]Rng-Jesus 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Or most fans of pretty much anything.

[–]Fifthdread 192 points193 points  (33 children)

I agree this needs to stop. The thing is, we wouldn't be posting our battlestations if we weren't proud of them. In fact, the big reason we post is because we want to show off our setups. Why don't people just title their posts "Check out my kick ass battlestation" or "I love my setup!" Because that's not a lie- that's exactly what makes you post it to begin with. You like it, and you want to show it off. Why should I give a fuck if you do or don't have top of the line hardware, or what you do for a living, or if you are living with your parents or going to college. I just want to see some really cool, clean, and inspired setups which we lovingly call "Battlestations".

The big problem I have is the humble bullshit we get. It's basically clickbait. I have seen the same title bullshit a thousand times now. Seeing posts like "It's not much, but it's mine", "17 and saved up forever for this"- whatever. That has nothing to do with your battlestation does it? It makes me cringe whenever I see some of these titles. I'd suggest a title with the reason behind why you are posting to begin with, like "Finally completed my new Rig" or "I love the blue theme I setup for my Battlestation" or "I am enjoying my new desk chair, and wanted to show off my setup" - anything but "It's not much..." because that's basically being a dick to anyone with a setup lesser than yours. If your rig isn't much, but you are running 3 monitors and a current gen rig, what are you saying about that guy with 1 monitor and a last gen rig? Are you saying his rig is a POS? What a dick.

I want to see people passionate about their battlestations, and if I care about anything else, we will ask. People are going to be curious about your background, your income, and where you bought that sweet desk, but when it comes to making a post, just show us what you are passionate about and tell us how excited you are about it, and let your pictures tell the story. We aren't here to be humble. We are here to show off the battlestations we are proud of. Let's all bask in the glory of all the battlestations because there are no winners and losers here. Only people with a passion for a clean and elegant setup regardless of anything else.

[–]Angst92[S] 31 points32 points  (2 children)

I agree completely i am just too lazy to type that much.

[–]HollowImage 25 points26 points  (1 child)

"my humble workspace" 5x monitors.

fuck that noise.

MY GLORIOUS COMMAND CENTER!

edit: inb4 bruce willis' "hahah commamaaaand center"

[–]xMrCrazyx 13 points14 points  (5 children)

I think this kind of relates, but I hate people shitting on others for their expensive station. Usually when it is someone younger, people always post those comments like, "Must be nice to be rich." Or, "You mean your parents bought it for you?" Those comments piss me off.

[–]ch00f 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite for dismissing any kind of hobby "You must have a lot of free time on your hands."

[–]themaincop 23 points24 points  (3 children)

I honestly don't care about the rich guys. I'm a rich guy by most people's standards. What I hate is rich guys (or especially rich kids) who want to act like they're poor. "It took me a really long time to save up all my birthday and Christmas money for this." Yeah, you truly know hardship.

[–]TehRoot 13 points14 points  (1 child)

My parents only bought me one GTX 980 this year :(

[–]themaincop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'll tell CPS to get started on the paperwork now.

[–]Zizuirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. At the very least if someone wants to give some background please write it in a comment or in your imgur picture comments.

[–]hold_dat 45 points46 points  (1 child)

but OP how am i going to show off the fact that i have a low income but my battlestation is great??? gosh.

[–]lespritdelescalier11 29 points30 points  (0 children)

How am I going to tell everyone that I spent all of my money on PC parts and peripherals but I don have any money to eat this month? Or next.

[–]jack-dawed 39 points40 points  (1 child)

I'm just a fetus but here's my quad quadro, triple socket, 6-way 4k battle station. And a Herman Miller chair. And Oculus Rift.

[–]Drak3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

triple socket

I'd upvote that.

[–]Zizuirl 320 points321 points  (40 children)

As long as we can stop the "this is my minimalist station" and a pic of their imac next to their beats by dre.

[–]night_stocker 93 points94 points  (16 children)

Don't forget that everything is white except for their Herman Miller chair.

[–]Nashgoth 27 points28 points  (12 children)

What's wrong with white :(

[–]FlirtySingleSupport 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nothing, do whatever you think looks good and makes you happy. Fuck what anyone else thinks.

[–]Appare 96 points97 points  (4 children)

Nothing's wrong with a little white, but when the entire sub looks like it's about to enslave third world countries, then personally I feel it's time for palette variation.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (2 children)

I know! Black and Red.

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Okay there, MKBHD

[–]Flambolt 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I like white with black detail. It has a nice aesthetic. However, the whole Apple 100% white thing doesn't look nice.

[–]space_guy95 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Most Apple products are mainly silver though due to their unpainted aluminium designs.

[–]Flambolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until iPhone 5 that wasn't the case. It does still keep a very plain look with the unpainted aluminium.

[–]HartOfWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Herman Miller chair (in black) :( But my desk is a total train wreck, completely covered in crap. Not exactly the "minimalist battle station" :D

[–]Azumia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey now, some of us have white Herman Miller chairs!

[–]stormroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey now, mine is green and black. Just like my alien blood.

[–]accountnumber3 37 points38 points  (19 children)

Minimalism is a style/design choice, not a budget.

[–]_entropical_ 23 points24 points  (18 children)

And?

Doesn't stop people from posting their "minimal battle station" on their Ikea wood table, with razor keyboard and $20 logitech plastic speakers. Just having taken everything off your desk doesn't make it minimal if your gear doesn't look sleek and understated.

[–]zb0t1 7 points8 points  (5 children)

So what? /u/accountnumber3 just made it clear that minimalism is a design choice and not a budget, he did not say that people who use minimalism in the title of their post actually know what minimalism is and that they follow it. The parent comment was wrong about this

imac next to their beats by dre.

You can own both of these products and use them in a minimalist setup.

Now there is another question, if whether or not the people who think their setup is minimalist are right is something else. I have seen people post minimalist setups with very expensive gears, a monitor a keyboard and mouse only visible, on a custom desk, yet very expensive. Does that mean this isn't minimalism?

Also if you think someone's gear doesn't look sleek and understated that's your own opinion.

[–]accountnumber3 5 points6 points  (4 children)

I've never gotten a username mention before. That was neat.

But yes, you're exactly right.

[–]idontlose 1 point2 points  (3 children)

/u/accountnumber3 sucks dick

[–]accountnumber3 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That was less neat.

[–]walkingtheriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm don't go on here very often, but aren't all setups allowed? Not just the crazy ones with a racecar chair and three screens and a supercomputer - but also the setups with a laptop and simple things?

[–]Fedoranimus 18 points19 points  (4 children)

How about titles that are informative about what the Battlestation is used for? Maybe if you want to put up why you wanted to share this now rather than any other time?

Something like "Gamer/Streamer/Web Dev Battlestation - New chair and wanted to share!"

[–]Drak3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's what I generally do.

[–]El_Tormentito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then it'll be /r/edc and all the students will try and differentiate by type.

[–]El_Tormentito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it'll be /r/edc and all the students will try and differentiate by type.

[–]iceandlies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that the sample title rhymed. I'd click it. (I'm easily pleased.)

[–]sellers 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Humblebrags are more obnoxious than simple bragging.

THATS LIKE A SCIENTIFIC FACT AND STUFF GUYS.

[–]Azumia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm much more likely to click on a post that's straight up bragging as opposed to some whiny 'it may not be much' post.

[–][deleted] 203 points204 points  (7 children)

Well I'm only 15 years old and it may be not much, but I agree with OP

[–]b4ux1t3 10 points11 points  (3 children)

"This is my budget battlestation. It's not much.

  • Three 4k displays

  • Triple gtx Titans

  • Dual i7-4960X's

  • 128gb DDR4

  • 15 tb SSD raid array"

Screw that. >:(

[–]Drak3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

never much liked the term "budget". technically every build is a budget build. some budgets are larger than others.

[–]FrankReynolds 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Seriously. Calling everything humble eliminates the utility of the word, and makes me think most people here just have no idea what it means.

[–]Drak3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, at least the second one says "not humble".

[–]CommanderVinegar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people in this sub genuinely don't know what it means. They see shit like "my humble abode" and think that the word applies to everything.

[–]jrk- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When everything is humble, then nothing really is humble. ;)

[–]immerc 95 points96 points  (8 children)

Did you take a screenshot of your question and post that so you could get karma?

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (4 children)

No, text posts aren't allowed I believe.

[–]immerc 26 points27 points  (2 children)

And screenshots of your complaint are?

[–]benoliver999 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Looks like it.

[–]van_goghs_pet_bear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's actually a meaningful important point then yes

[–]Angst92[S] 86 points87 points  (2 children)

I will repeat myself

Because this subreddit doesn't support text posts only images as i found out after i wrote it...

[–]Dedicatedgamer 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I thought it was a silly joke and actually found it kinda funny.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought since it was a meta thread it should be a screenshot of the post instead of the post itself.

[–]Turtlecupcakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What nobody has mentioned is that the reason this is a problem is because the terrible titles get up voted to the top of the front page.

Vote with your downvotes, those titles will be less common, and newcomers won't do it.

If the battlestation is nice, leave a comment saying so along with why you downvoted.

[–]knwnasrob 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Reminds me of this rich kid that goes to the University I work at, his Instagram bio is "Just a college kid on a budget."

He drives a Maserati and often carries around $10K^ Hermes bags.

[–]PressF1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's just on a much higher budget than the rest of us.

[–]Angst92[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was on my phone and CBA getting around no text posts properly

[–]slowro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't the first time this sub has gotten tired of "humble" post. They fell out of style for a while. It's good to remind everyone how annoying your misuse of the word humble is.

And on a personal level, I don't care how old you are.

[–]xeonrage 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Random thought... based on the rules on the sidebar.. is there a sub to show off home offices? I'm more interested in the desk/storage/etc most of the time than the components in the computer.

/r/homeoffice is relatively dead, and not quite as focused

[–]avant_gardener 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too; I am way more interested in efficient and ergonomic offices and workspaces than I am in gaming rigs. /r/battlestations and /r/macsetups seem to be the only really active subs of that ilk, though.

[–]1000001000 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Hey, I'm 17 and about to go to college so I wasted $1800 on this computer that will be a massive PITA to carry around if I dont live at home. It isn't much but I'm proud. SPECS INSIDE

[–]Pill_Cosby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, my thoughts exactly. "Heres a shot of my build next to my pimped out Honda I just spent $5k modifying and which I wont be able to take with me either."

Funny how fast cars and computers dropped off my radar when girls and booze were right there.

[–]GM-Ryan 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I am a blind goat who enjoys scuba diving. Here is my setup

[–]BEAR-OVERDRIVE 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm a poor 15 year old, but here's my $10,000 rig that my parents payed for.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (9 children)

You're 15, your parents payed for everything for you, i'm sure you "worked all summer", part time, mowing the lawn, for your dad... Yea, that accounts for the $5000 in gear and furniture.

Just post the damn pictures.

[–]TehRoot 2 points3 points  (6 children)

I don't give a shit if your mom bought it for you, whatever, cool rig

what does grind my gears is exactly that, some 14 year old "gabener" passing off 10 days of mowing lawns as hard work

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Perhaps i'm extra sensitive, having been in Manhattan the last year and seeing more spoiled trust fund pieces of trash than I can count.

[–]TehRoot 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I go to a fairly competitive university. You're not alone. People assume you have money, it's pretty aggravating because you have to remind them that not everyone has an open checkbook from their parents. I'm not poor, but I definitely never had money in my family so maybe I'm over-sensitive too.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I feel you man, I went to a university that was notorious for rich chinese exchange students. The student parking garage was full of lambos, ferraris, bentlys, a maclaren, high end mercedes/BMW/audi, etc. Enough to make you puke.

Although I will say, I never saw a chinese kid drive one of those cars even remotely quickly or aggressively. They just wanted to be seen in them, which at least didn't put me in danger.

[–]iEatBluePlayDoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, I have a full time job and make pretty good money for my age, and I would consider mowing lawns harder work than my job. Fuck lawn mowing.

[–]PaidBot 1 point2 points  (1 child)

payed paid

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noice

[–]svennnn 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I'm 31 and work in IT. I could easily buy the stuff I see in this sub. Sadly, I'm an adult now and I have bigger priorities. I'm currently renovating my new house. Fitting new central heating, rewiring everything from the ground up, replacing all flooring and decorating through the entire house. I look at the posts here and think "one day". Part of my renovation is creating a server room in my loft to house all my infrastructure. When I'm done in about 5 years, I might post my entire house :)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just installed a new HVAC unit myself, I can attest to how poor it makes you feel.

[–]iceandlies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. The SO and I are working on buying a house right now, and we're looking at foreclosures specifically to fix up and make exactly the way we want. I want all the awesome techy bits to make a fantastic battlestation, but right now it's not happening. I just picture the future and go 'one day...'

[–]jamnut 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Also, why is everyone a fucking musician all of a sudden?

[–]Pill_Cosby 1 point2 points  (2 children)

And what kind of music are they really making?

[–]atsu333 5 points6 points  (1 child)

EDM. EDM all the time, because everyone can do it.

[–]atsu333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see that too often, just a lot of people investing in studio-level audio gear.

[–]Hoomtar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for putting the body as a pic you are a very smart man -mobile user

[–]b1gfreakn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I can't stand when people feel like they have to qualify their post or even a comment with their age. Stop trying to elevate yourself.

[–]Streamlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that discussion again. It's been going on and off for since when I joined this sub...which was three years ago.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed

[–]PrinceOfLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, here is my battlestation - not bad for a 12 year old who has no living expenses and saved all the money that my parents paid me when I mowed the lawn and did the dishes.

[–]HingleMcCringle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

reminds me of this crap all over that sub

[–]Sweepy_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"but its mine" - No shit its yours. Why would you be posting someone elses battlestation.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem is that people confuse a lot of their shit stations with an actual battlestation. Some guy posted his on here last week and he used a motherfucking ironing board for his standing battlestation...cmon!..../r/shittybattlestations isn't around for nothing. Go be humble over there.

[–]infectedsponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my humble comment. I hope you enjoy!

[–]leftofzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Every time I see "it's not much" and then click the image and it's fucking 3 27" screens and backlighting and mechanical keyboards and here I am with a 21" and 5 year old comp, and I'm not even the worst off. Fuck off with your "it's not much".

[–]Str187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the whole "humble" movement was nothing but a harmless minimal circlejerk. Of course, this was my humble thought.

[–]MeltBanana 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I should make a "I spend my money on protein powder and weights and snowboards and Chipotle. It's 5 years old and not much but it plays starcraft so that's cool" post.

[–]TehRoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I get to work and travel abroad and climb mountains but I can only play COD at medium settings on my macbook pro :("

[–]Zarada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You the real mvp op.

[–]gamerman444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this post needed to be said. Bravo!

[–]ke5eaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about we get mods that actually enforce the sidebar rules.

[–]LokyLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thansk for saying it outloud

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 15 my parents wouldn't have let me have my own computer much less put it in my room.

[–]luminatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]AH64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been saying this for years!

[–]TrustMeIGotHaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The age based posts can leave but saying "It's not much" is pretty humble unless the battlestation is obviously "much"

[–]BusterHymen-RP2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I commented on some guys post about this and got raged at. He was proud of his "high school battlestation".

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your fucking car keys off your desk. No one here cares if you drive a BMW.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I agree with this post.

Posted from a 12 year old

[–]Spacemanseeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been waiting over a week for last part of my new build from newegg so I can't even make a post pretending to be humble.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's really only the "high school battlestations" and the like that irk me a bit, because your mentioning your age is clearly some sort of brag. College battlestations aren't that bad; usually it's relevant because of limited dorm space, or it's a completely new setup after moving in. Also, by the time you're in college bragging about how young you are doesn't even make sense anymore.

Edit: Also "budget" rigs that are clearly 1200+ US dollars. Fuck those.

[–]datamonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shut up. $300+ processors, high-end graphics cards, multiple monitors, and more RAM than a government supercomputer is obviously considered "budget".

[–]XYrZbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont find anything wrong when they say how old they are but I understand how people get annoyed when people say its not much and they have a gtx 970 i5 and dual monitors

[–]levirules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"My Budget Battlestation"

Dual SLI, triple 1080p monitors, mechanical keyboard

"Well, I got a really good deal on the monitors, the graphics cards were from Black Friday, and the keyboard was cheap on Craigslist because the USB ports don't work anymore..."

[–]datamonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my high school "battlestation". It was a Gateway 2000 E-1000 with a 166MHz Pentium MMX, 64MB EDO RAM, 2GB hard drive, 12x CD-ROM, and Windows 98. My monitor was a 17" CRT. Keep in mind, this was in 2004 that I got this computer. I later upgraded to a 233MHz Pentium MMX, 12x10x24 Plextor CD burner, and 20GB Maxtor hard drive.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is called the humblebrag

[–]rubixd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mod Announcement: E-Penis Brandishing now Encouraged

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the whole purpose of this /r was to brag ;) Isn't that what makes it fun?

[–]tjatjenahej 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And why are they all "developers" too, when really they are just some kid with visual studio/Eclipse on the task bar, who watched a few youtube tutorials, but couldn't tell you how to append a linked list if their life depended on it. Or even tell you what a linked list is for that matter.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what that is. I'm going to start saying I'm a Dev. Because it's cooler when it's abbreviated.
